REVIEWS OF Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site IN Georgia

Our visit was a last minute idea during a stop in Dehlonega. My family of 6 which includes 2 under 10, 15,18,41,44 lol!! Had a nice time learning about the gold rush in Georgia. The museum is very nice and the employee clearly love what that do.Thanks for the lessons gentleman.

Sandy Walker

An interesting place to find out the history of gold in Georgia

Kris Shepard

Took our grandson and great nephew. It was worth going. We learned about, saw animals and small mammals we've never seen before.

Yvette Cribb

This place is a fantastic outline of Georgia's gold rush! The displays are cool, my only complaint is that it is small!! Maybe if more people came they could expand it a little more!!

Chris White

Very interesting tour. I would highly recommend it.

Danny Harrison

Pretty good. Falsely claims to be oldest courthouse in Georgia. Fayette's is the oldest at 1825.

Richard Dixon

Very helpful people with unique items.

Daniel Calderon

We had such an awesome experience here with my wife.

Katie Kemper

The guides here are passionate and knowledgeable about the history of this place, and love to answer questions. The new renovations improved the learning experience by 100%, and the film was excellent.

Tj Alligood

What a cute little museum, beautiful building and adorable town! It felt like we pulled onto a movie scene lol. The lady in the museum was so sweet and friendly and the guy was very informative. Lots of history to take in. My favorite thing on display was the glasses/case. Yes, out of all of the gold and bigger displays the cuteness of the glasses got me lol I'd highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area and take a stroll around the town. My kids loved the gift shop area's magnets...I would have bought two sets if I knew they were going to fuss and fight over them LOL ... Everyone that we spoke with around town seemed very friendly and welcoming. Finding a simi close parking spot took a few circles around the block so be patient. There was plenty of parking within walking distance though so it's really not that big of an issue at all. I was just trying to keep the road crossing to a minimum with my two small kids.

Jerry Summers

It was a lot of fun to see the events that took place during this Georgia gold rush. I would have never imagined this could have happened. It has always been California or Alaska.

John Matthews

Excellent history of the GA gold rush

Zach Morgan

It seems like there are musicians on the square every weekend, which really adds character!

Roberto Vazquez

Really cool and 8nformative. Also the consolidated Gold mines

Andrew Noriega

Not really worth the money. Had one video about the gold in the area. Two rooms blocked off upstairs.. Wasnt really sure of what they were. Downstairs had a cool gold coin collection. Other than that it wasnt rwally worth the money.

Allyson Hurst

So much to learn here and everyone is so knowledgeable and friendly!

Charlie Meyer

Isn't it fascinating that our state had a gold rush also? Maybe more information than you need but the exibits are cool. I liked the guy at the desk also. He enjoys educating us. Go visit

Awesome Georgia treasure! This should be a required visit for every student in Georgia. No, every student in America! Events going on all year that vividly relate this part of American history. Knowledgeable friendly staff. Located in town that deserves a visit in its own right. And the Friends Of Dahlonega Gold Museum are a wonderful bunch of folks providing incredible support!

Great part of the regions history displayed in a historic courthouse. Set in the center of everything you should really swing by and check it out. Very informative.

Weather you're into history, gold mining or ghost hunting, this place has something for you!! So historic and well preserved this gold museum does an awsome job at explaining and displaying the gold mining community in their area. The downstairs has a wonderful gift shop with reasonably prices suviners. Towards the back are two rooms with gold mining displays. Upstairs is the theater room that shows an educational short film on the areas gold mining along with the historic jurors room and displays. If you are into ghosts and hauntings, this place does not disappoint! The friendly lady at the front desk told us that during her first week working here, she actually saw a ghost. This place is notorious for being haunted, so bring your EMF readers and watch them spike in the upastairs jurors room, ours did!! An overall great place to visit and very reasonably priced admission. Great filed trip for the home schoolers out there! After your visit enjoy a stroll around the town to the cozy cafes, the fudge shop ( which was amazing!) and ice cream polar. A great way to spend the day!

Chris Villanueva

Great place to find out some local history. Great places to get some food close as well

Melissa Roman

It is a great way to learn a little history

Torrance Wong

Interesting little gem in a small friendly town. Everyone was extremely helpful and Bob (one of the volunteers at the museum) was really informative. You can learn about the mining history in the area and the history of the old courthouse the museum is in. Plenty of parking in and around the town.

Kristy Garrigus

Wonderful place and rangers are very informative and interact with visitors

Shana Bibee

Love it.

Shawn Cook

Wonderful "beach town" with no beach in sight. We really want to like it here with a laid back atmosphere and incredible vineyard selections. Great food, awesome hikes on trails and waterfalls. Unfortunately it's marred by horrible local drivers. Half the roads don't even have posted speed limits. But many of the locals, from law enforcement to local residents, the mailman, even the owners of the cabins we rented from, tailgated without any thought towards visitors simply trying to find their way. Please improve the driving experience - we'd love to come back

Carl Gentry

A nice place explaining the history of this area.

Eddie Hale

Alot of speciality shop very friendly people .we enjoyed our day so much

It's a nice place and must visit if in the area, especially if you are numismatist with interest in coins and history. Dahlonega (pronounced Duh-lon-uh-guh and NOT Dowl-uh-nay-ga...get it right or get teased by locals) is the sight of the first U.S. gold rush. The U.S. mint had a satellite here where they minted gold coins until the beginning of the Civil War. There is an explanation of all of this during a short film. The staff was nice, and the gift shop overpriced with junk, but, the eye opening exhibit that grabbed my two son's attention as well as mine is the complete collection of gold Dahlonega coins on display. BEAUTIFUL!! It's worth a visit for anybody that loves history or numismatics.

Mary Tee

Very nice. Lots of shopping and places to cool off in.

Chris Powers

My son and I enjoyed it very much and learned a great deal!

leman frye

Hmm... Self tour, they don't show you the original gold bricks any longer and they charge admission..... I was slightly disappointed at it now from the last time I was there 6-7 years ago.

Chris

Recently renovated and an impressive memorial to Dahlonega’s heyday as the focus of America’s gold rush frenzy in the early nineteenth century. Georgia’s smallest state park is definitely one of its most interesting from a historical perspective. Extremely well done.

Excellent display of gold and the area it was discovered in. Perfect museum for all ages to enjoy, with the greatest staff who can share their knowledge in a way that makes you want to run outside and start digging for gold. Wonderful gift shop.

Donna Brantley

Loved it.

Ben Cunningham

Interesting and informative.

MP Ossa

Very interesting spot to visit but you need to do the whole she-bang: 1. Museum first, 2. Visit the mines after that, 3. Go to the underground mine at the hotel right across the museum. Then, do the vineyard tour and, lastly, enjoy the square. Just one weekend will get you 100% acquainted . And it is particularly beautiful during the holidays with the ghost tours and Winter decor. A DREAM!

Mike Feagin

Georgia's smallest state park. Newly renovated, great historical reference for the area.

William Peterson

Awesome place, lots of history. The entry fee goes towards something other than big business. It goes to preserving our history.

A place you need to see if you go to delongo, Ga and alsome town that is stuck back in history. A town in its self.

Wes Meaders

This place is a must see for any soon-to-be prospector. The video was really informative. It left us wanting to know more, but also well educated. Amazing gold coin displays. I wish we would've stayed longer. I'd recommend 2 hours for adults or teenage children.

Catherine Thompson

Don Hill

One of the best experiences we have had since moving to North Georgia. The town had been on our visit list for months as we passed nearby on the way to other destinations but when we heard about the gold mine we just had to make it a priority. Even though our tour had one family with an obnoxious and unsupervised young boy who managed to nearly ruin it for everyone else, the tour guide was very patient and professional without embarrassing the parents who should have been ashamed. We stayed at the back of the tour and took lots of pictures. We love cave tours but this was even better. The gold panning was actually fun and you get to keep the actual gold you find. At 67 with bad knees, the tour was never difficult or overly tiring. We are now anxious to return with family and friends who visit us here from now on. Highly recommended.

Tina Hutton

Great little town

Tori McLean

What a great museum! The price is reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the museum is well kept! Enjoyed reading the history of gold in Dahlonega. The video upstairs was very informative and fun to watch! There were coloring sheets for the kids, which was nice during the movie. We were able to peek Into the area leading to the attic thanks to an awesome employee. The brick contains gold and he was kind enough to let us see it! He told us some fascinating facts stories and really made the experience great!

Did some rewiring of this amazing place back in 2008. I was never told about the ghost that tends to mess with contractors tool bags. And had to find my tools twice when I was working in the attic installing a intercom system. Something had taken them down a flight of stairs. Awesome place indeed!

Leonard Norton

You're gonna love this! Just go on a Saturday to catch the picking and singing outside.

M J Fisher

We love this little gem. The museum is interesting, and offers a glimpse of the rich history of this charming town that we love. As one who hails from the Northeast, Dahlonega is as close one can to experience the quaint villages of New England, but in the south. In the metro area, Dahlonega is quintessentially the perfect little village one must visit, especially during Christmas.

Michael Steele

Interesting and educational.

Josh Lower

Visited the location on kids Elementary School Field Trip. The Museum is setup really nice and the staff are very familiar with the area and content. It was a neat stop, but had I had to pay full price, I would have been upset. Not a lot museum for the top dollar entry. Gift shop onsite, but it was a lot of rebranded tourism gifts. For a field trip it is ok, but if you want to get educated and get your monies worth, skip here and head to the mine.

Joel Mangrum

Great time, reasonably priced.

Connie Vogel-Brown

Wonderful explanation of the gold mining time period in the film. Nice new exhibits.

J Holton

We struck gold! Very good family place. You pay pretty for the emerald sifting but it's a fun time. It's best to get the package tour tix at the Dahlonega Visitor Center. You'll get it to her of the gold museum and also the other gold mine in town.

LYN Forrest

Very knowledgeable people in the museum, my students were engaged, and asked great questions.

Taeshon Blount

Very interesting and informative!!
