This Museum corresponds to the category of Lighthouse.
177 steps to top! Worth the climb. Especially when the Blue Angels happen to fly by and land one at a time! Museum and grounds nicely dine. Walk on the beach across the street nice finishing touch. During the climb, places to stop and take pics as you ascend.
Also a great place to bring out of town era or a day with the family
If you love a challenge then this is for you. You van climb to the top, but you have to leave purses or backpacks behind as the steps are narrow. If you don't wish to climb to the top there is plenty to see and do at the museum so no one is left out.
Great place to visit. It is worth the stop.
$7 to tour lighthouse. You can't climb to too unless you have a strap on your shoe, no flip flops or slides.
They advertose free admission. This is for the main museum. The lighthouse is a monor quick stop on the way. It was advertising $7 for adults and $4 kids
Great Florida lighthouse that dates back to the 1850s, and is still in active use by the Coast Guard.
We have been told the history and that was wonderful.
Very nice and educational. Did the lighthouse stairs and was very satisfied I accomplished it after my heart attack.
Really well done museum. Intresting exhibits and stuff for kids as well. Also well air conditioned! And a nice bathroom. Always a perk
The climb up is 177 steps. There is no air conditioning so it is hot. Once you are at the top, there's a nice breeze and awesome view.
This is a Pensacola must visit. The 177 steps were totally worth it. The museum was great and one of its kind. There is no need to worry about it being expensive to visit since the admission for adults for $7 which gives you access to the lighthouse and museum. Make sure you bring comfortable tennis shoes and a pair of sandles to visit the bay right across the street. You will have an amazing view.
Coolest stop on our vacation!!
We are traveling back home to New Orleans and decided to stop here to see the lighthouse. We didn’t have time or want to spend money to go through everything so we just stopped by to see the lighthouse. Upon walking up to the gate, a gentleman told us to just go around to come through. We walked into a gift shop and looked around, and then proceeded to walk into the yard where they had a few things to look at. We never entered the museum or the light house. A gentleman worker asked if we wanted to walk up, but we informed him we would not be doing that. Backpacks and bags on us, no one told us they weren’t allowed on the general grounds or that we needed to pay to enter that gate. A few minutes later we left and while walking back to the car, a lady ran after us, named Sam, asking if we had paid. We let her know we had not because we did not go through any of the exhibits. She tells us we must pay since we even went through the door and then was very rude telling us we shouldn’t have even had our bags with us. While I do understand this, the multiple employees that just let us go through and saw us with the bags never informed us that we were going through something that required payment. We were then forced to pay even though we never went into the museum or the lighthouse, just merely stood inside the gate. The way the whole thing was handled was very unprofessional. I would not suggest people to come here due to the confusion and lack of service. While I understand now that we went through the part that required a band for entrance, the responsibility lies on the employees to do their jobs and ensure that guests can’t enter because the entrance and where to pay is confusing.
Yes, it was not easy to climb the steep stairs to the very top of the existing lighthouse. But the incredible view of Big Lagoon State Park and the surrounding area of Pensacola was worth the effort. The world is wonderful!!!
It looks neat from the outside? I think tickets were about $7-8... Not going to pay that much.
My daughter and I loved this experience. We walked to the top of the lighthouse and the view of Pensacola was beautiful. It is definitely a trek walking up the stairs so bring some comfortable tennis shoes!
Seemed like a nice place, but the line was so long I decided not to go in. From my understanding, it's a great looking point, but you need to climb quite a few stairs to get there. No purses, backpacks, etc are allowed in and it's 100% ID check. Now that it's around the corner from the Naval abortion museum, which would make a good combo trip. Also note that the lighthouse is on a military base, so you will feel awkward pulling up to the gate and you will have to show ID.
Amazing views from the top! Loved the lighthouse museum artifacts. If you live learning about the history of Pensacola don't miss this landmark!
Just an amazingly beautiful place. Lots of history and information about it. Kids will love it.
Children can not walk up to light. Confused about what gate to enter GPS takes you into navy base
Beautiful place awesome staff must see. Where shoes if you plan to climb the Lighthouse flip flops are not allowed you might trip and fall.
The trip up is a little terrifying, and so is the height, but you are safe nonetheless. A remarkable experience into yesteryear.
Nice historic diversion when you are on the naval air station base. It's a definite workout climbing the 15 story spiral staircase to the top of the light house. Worth the view though, if you get their in time you can watch the Blue Angel's practise their air show from the top of the light house
Great Times. beautiful history.
Family loved it, will be going back
Cool place. Neat to see. Do not follow gps! Check their website for directions. Wear some good shoes and be prepared to climb. The steps are very steep.
It a great experience if you never do this before .great views from the top of the lighthouse and some as you climb up many flights of stairs , you can see out windows. The old house next to it is also in amazing condition. Its Just a beautiful look at are history .
Love Lighthouses! Great exercise climbing to the top. Excellent views. A lot of history to be learned. Very well maintained and the staff is very knowledgeable.
Lots of history here. It is a LOT of stairs. My oldest son and I only got about 1/3 up. My 2 youngest and hubby did them ALL......177. My daughter's legs were visibly shaking when they got down. If there is lightening anywhere close they close it. Then they send someone up to see if it's all clear to reopen. They take small donations to help restore and they are trying to add on to make it where handicapped can also enjoy, I think via VR.
The lighthouse was amazing! It gives you such an amazing view of the gulf, Naval Aviation Museum and the runway. We were lucky and a Blue Angel flew by while we were at the top.
Beautiful sites. Very inexpensive date location. Cant beat the view from the top, worth the climb.
Lots of stairs to climb!! But totally worth the view at the top! And there is a height requirement for kiddos so u may have to take a separate trip from your significant other if you have a little one with you.
Great views! Make it a stop when your in Pensacola.
Great place to go while in Pensacola. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Safety is also a main priority there. Make sure you wear shoes with a backing. I certainly recommend tennis shoes because of the steep steps. It took us about 30 minutes to climb to the top, take a few pictures, embrace the view, catch our breath, and go back down. The museum took about 20-30 minutes. Your time spent is based on you and the size and interest of your group. There is also a small play area. I will certainly be going back with my family next time. They price I believe was $4.00 for military (active duty member, retiree, or veteran) and $7.00 for all others. So to clarify, if you are AD and you bring your dependents, you will pay for one AD entry and $7.00 for each dependent. Lastly, if you don’t plan to climb the lighthouse but want to enter you still have to pay the entry fee to go beyond the gift store. There are places for you to have a seat while you wait on the other side.
The lighthouse itself was worth going! But be prepared...don't bring a bag, not even a purse. They won't let you in. And have your own vehicle!! We had to walk 2.6 miles back to the gate to get an Uber because the lighthouse is on a military base.
Beautiful place to visit! Google maps won't take you to the right entrance since it is on a military base, so you do have to do some navigation yourself. The workers are friendly and genuinely love visitors!
Cool I overcame my fear of heights
Great view at the top but you have to climb 177 steps
Long walk up but definitely worth the climb for the amazing view.
Beautiful views from the lighthouse and friendly staff.
The lighthouse is an icon in the Pensacola area. The visit is on the Naval Air Station. If you are downtown, be prepared to drive some 13 miles to get to the west gate and bring your photo ID. There is a nice museum about the building and operation of the lighthouse (longest running in the US) and still in use. There is a charge for admission. You can get a great view of the area by climbing the 177 steps to the observation deck via spiral staircase.
Pretty cool stop, but kids under 42" are not allowed :(
Very informative!! Great Place to Visit.
It was kind of a hard climb up but well worth it the view was inspiring and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Love the light house great place to visit.
Great USA history..!! The kids will enjoy it too...! If you're going to the beach, take a fast detour over to see this you won't regret it. You'll learn a lot too.
Quite an adventure I do recommend wearing closed-toed shoes not flip-flops if you want to do it though if you're in flip-flops you have to do the whole thing Barefoot it's 177 steps to the top but well worth it and wonderful view once you're up there and then check out the Air Aviation Museum that's right across the street.
It feels like you can see the whole gulf coast from the top! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
Cool place but do not go in the Eastgate wrong 1 go into West
Beautiful place gorgeous views, had an amazing time
It was really awesome to see how the White House was still standing from all the bad storms that has come through that area even though that me and my son only made it halfway up and I told him do not look down through the stairs. I definitely will have to be back to make it to the top and Mark it off my bucket list but I'm going to have to find someone who is not scared of heights. But it does have some inspiration of what it used to look like back in the day.
Love the history. Amazing view
Wonderful historical place and you can climb to the top.
Fun museum with an awesome view of the area from the top of the lighthouse. It is a climb so be ready for that.
Nice, relaxed presentation of an important historic facility that is still in use today!
The lighthouse itself was closed for painting, however the museum and gift shop were open. The lighthouse should be open again next week. The lady in the gift shop was very pleasant, and there is a beach access behind the museum for some beautiful photo opportunities.
The most amazing views I've ever seen
177 steps up! Pretty scary for anyone just because there is a rail on one side and if people are coming down you've got to inch your way holding a step until they pass. Either way it's a gorgeous view! Too windy up to stand being afraid of heights. The little musuem was really neat with all the artifacts collected. We ventured a little on base and saw the beach as well. Would def go back!
The history of the lighthouse and surrounding area makes for a very interesting and informative visit. The grounds are well kept with constant work being done by a dedicated group willing to keep this jewel alive and well for future generations. For those willing to take the time to climb to the top, be sure and bring a camera. The views are amazing.
Nice little museum they have. The lighthouse is well maintained and the grounds look very nice. Went up the 177 steps to the top and the view was spectacular that day.
This is a must-see! Take time to read the placards... they are fascinating!
Nice spot to watch the Blue Angels
The lighthouse is awesome! Seriously! I'm not particularly a lighthouse enthusiast or anything, but it was very educational and enjoyable. There is a $7 dmission fee for adults. The grounds are well maintained. Walking up the spiral staircase to the top and standing on the deck is so cool! Amazing view, and the trip up and down is even enjoyable.
177 steps make sure you ask yourself "am I sure I want to do this"? Then make yourself. The view is amazing.
Very interesting. Learned of the history of that lighthouse and other history of lighthouses.
Great place to visit! It's 177 steps to the top but worth the view and gorgeous breeze when you get there. Really nice museum and gift shop too. My six year old had no problems going to the top and back down. There is a height requirement and you can't bring and kind of purse or bag for safety reasons.
Very cool experience! A must if you're in the area!
A great display of the history of the lighthouse. It’s affordable to get in and they have a plethora of things to look at and read. It’s a great experience to be able to climb to the top and take a view from that high up. Be sure to wear socks and closed toe shoes. No flip flops. And be ready to make the climbs great experience!
The lighthouse was awesome! There are 177 steps total I believe, and the hike up is definitely worth it! The views were incredible.
Could be cheaper. Museum is nice. Lighthouse is a good exercise.
Great time with the grandchildren. We enjoyed it.
This Lighthouse was amazing! One word of warning though, and I will repeat it later do not show up in flip-flops they will make you take them off to walk up the stairs. And the stairs are metal stairs. But other than that it was a great experience and wonderful gift shop too, we gave them a hundred plus dollars of our money LOL! But seriously, the tour is amazing all of the help there are wonderful, and the view from the top of the lighthouse is incredible! Plan on going to the national Naval Aviation Museum while you go to the lighthouse, the museum is directly across the street and it's free admission. And if you get a chance go down to Fort Barrancas it's just a mile down the road from the Aviation museum and the lighthouse and well worth the drive. But Fort Barrancas is only open Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday. Just remember though, don't wear flip-flops or shoes with open backs to the lighthouse because you'll have to take them off and go barefoot and the stairs are no fun barefoot. One other word of warning be sure and take an ID with a photo on it, because you are going on to the naval installation and you will be ID checked getting onto the installation and getting into the Aviation museum also, purses are not allowed and backpacks are not allowed at the Lighthouse.
Loved it! Beautiful place! Interesting background, gorgeous surroundings!
Incredible view from the top, but a bit of a workout climbing the spiral staircase.
A visit in Pensacola is not complete without dropping by here. Nice view on the top. Nice beaches around. Perfect place to kayak or paddle board. Staff are friendly too.
Really neat lighthouse! They charge $7 to go up the 177 stairs so it’s not too bad in the price. Very friendly staff and the grounds were very clean. I will be coming back for sure.
Really cool historic site. Nice workout going up, but not too bad coming down.
Been to many light houses. This is standard fare. Gentleman at top was a great talk. Keep up the work. Appreciation to you all.
I really enjoyed both the lighthouse and the museum. The climb was challenging but not terrible and as a plus the blue Angels did a show at the naval aviation museum across the street while we were there. Great visit all around
Beautful old original lighthouse. Great views of the gulf waters and surrounding lands. Rough walk up 173 steps but well worth it. If this 68 year old senior man can do it, you can too. Enjoy.
Fun way to see a lighthouse and learn about it's history. The museum is really well maintained and informative about a host of maritime topics. $7 for adults is a little steep given there is a free air museum just down the street. I'm glad I did it though, the view from the top is fantastic.
Had a great time. Went in January but weather held out for us. Wife had issues with see thru steps as she is very afraid of heights, but still made it up and down the 177 steps . Loved all the history and educational opportunities...
Very clean and all staff was super friendly and helpful. Love the history that goes with the lighthouse... The 177 stair climber is definitely worth it! I love that the gresnel light is still working!
I thought it was beautiful. It started raining soon as we walked up and thunder clapped. If there is a lightning strike within 3 miles they close it to foot traffic. If it hadnt been late in the day we would have just waited out the storm. Only 4 stars because I haven't seen enough to go 5. Glad they were concerned for our safety, We'll be back looking for that last star ☆
Fun for the whole family, beautiful views from the top!
This place is awesome this is the first light house I've ever been to it is in great shape and you get to climb to the top of the tower be ready for a climb it's a long way to the top my calve muscles hurt for 2 days
I loved this! The view was fantastic, not too crowded at one in the afternoon and had to walk up 177 steps.
I climbed all 177 steps and the panoramic view of NAS Pensacola was awe inspiring.
Nice lighthouse and museum. Lots of climbing, be prepared.
Awesome museum! Lighthouse is fun to climb with great views and a guide at the top. Gift shop has some nice items, reasonably priced.
Amazing! Well worth the $7 for adults and $4 for kids. 177 steps to the top, and worth every one when you see the view. The light is original and an absolute marvel.
Super tidy and really interesting Beach is right there too
It was a historical, beautiful once in a lifetime experience.. Stunning veiws
I had the best time here. Museum has the best collection of aircraft. You must catch the air show!
This place wasn't too bad to climb and it was very calming at the top to see the ocean like that. Pretty cool.
Loved the light house, it's a long walk up but the view was amazing.
Make sure you don't wear flip flops/sandals. Otherwise you will be climbing to the top barefoot. Please bring a pair of shoes in your car to change into. Also purses are not allowed in the lighthouse so please leave them in the car. We decided to come here because it was raining at Orange beach and as two people without kids we couldn't think of what to do. The lighthouse was very beautiful and definitely a nice little way to escape the rain. Be aware the stairs at the top are very slippery after the rain so coming down is a bit precarious.
Great historic working lighthouse. The view from the top is great on a clear day and the museum below gives good insight into the life and history of lighthouse keepers.
Really enjoyed this experience. It is a climb to the top but much worth it. The view is amazing
The museum was so nice, and the lighthouse (177 steps) was amazing. The steps are so pretty. I was surprised to find Mike the volunteer tour guide at the top. The lighthouse still works to guide boats and ships today.
A lot of great history at the Lighthouse. Take a tour of what was going on in Pensacola in the 19th century. Spooky tales and spectacular views. Very relaxing on the grounds.
This lighthouse is very well preserved what a beautiful site to visit and learn about lighthouses and the light keeper and their families. You can learn about lighthouses from the very inception of our great nation to present time period. The lighthouse Keepers residence is restored and furnished like a period when it was occupied and operated. Very much to see and learn from this site the inside of the lighthouse was being painted the day I went so it was closed until it dried. I would have loved to climb the stairs to see the view from top but I'm not disappointed the rest was well worth the visit. Normal admissions is $7.00 which includes climb to top of lighthouse there is a very nice gift shop as well. Entry is thru the back gate of the Naval Air Station Base everyone will need a photo ID to get thru the gate on Base. Once at lighthouse leave you purse or hand bags in your vehicle they are not allowed into the lighthouse area.
What a lovely museum! There is some interactions you can do like trying or making different kinds of knots at the stations that's outside. Inside you can go upstairs to view different exhibits and then downstairs and also the basement. After touring the museum it's time to go outside around the side and climb 177 stairs. I was terrified of climbing the spiral lighthouse. I don't like heights. I wanted to go back down but I made it to the top. The view is breathtaking once you make it to the top you can walk on the outside. I made sure to hold on to the railing I really didn't think I was going to go out the door at the top. The volunteer was nice. The lighthouse is still used by the coast guard.
Definitely worth the stop! Really cool lighthouse with a great view.
Once you go up the lighthouse and come back down, that's pretty much it. The lighthouse is humid and sticky. The mannequins in the living quarters are creepy but not in a fun creepy way. It's ok for 10 min. diversion but I was unimpressed.
Pretty up top. We got there a bit late about 30 minutes before they closed and Didn't have time to go thru the museum part. A bit more expensive than I thought it was going to be but I love lighthouses.
Such a cool place!! Definitely need to make the time to check this out!
Absolutely gorgeous. Bill the volunteer was very informative, friendly and funny.
An amazing view of Pensacola and the surrounding area.
Great views from the top. Able to see all the way to Mobile, AL. 177 steps to the top. $7 admission. $4 for military. Closes at 5pm.
Excellent views once you get to the top.. don't even think about going up if you get winded easy or are afraid of heights. Very interesting
I have a major fascination with climbing every lighthouse I can and this one was amazing! I had to climb barefoot as they do not allow strapless sandals or flip flops to climb. Made it a little more exciting!
We climbed the lighthouse and got treated to Blue Angel practice! So awesome!
The whole family loved it. Beautiful setting and grounds, informative exhibits, and an amazing view from the top. It was an hour drive from our location and well worth the time.
My husband and older kids loved it. I stayed in the car with our toddler who didn't meet the height requirement.
Love the history of this lighthouse. Well kept, nice gift store, ample parking
Wonderful place to visit. Especially if you like history.
Really neat place to see. If scared of heights you might not like this place because you can see through the stairs. Really neat to get lucky and see the Blue Angels from on the lighthouse.
This was an awesome experience! The climb up to the top was a workout, but once at the top the view was like nothing else. We paid for the Blue Angels show practice tour, and it was worth it 100 percent! Watching their show from the 151 foot tall lighthouse was great and an experience I will never forget.
Nice and clean facility and restooms, well worth the money for the climb to the top. Very friendly staff. Kids walked away having learned a little about history. Great experience!
Navigation system sends youto the wrong gate, where the Naval Police are very rude about you "coming to the wrong gate". Then they give you an inaccurate map to the right gate. But the museum is closed due to a special event that you cannot attend. Disappointed & frustrated.
It was awesome .great view... go early fall is the best time
Very cool history here! You get to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse (however I got shaky knees and couldn't do it)
The only thing of its kind in Pensacola. The hike is substantial and some areas are hard for taller people, but when you make it to the top it is all worth it. A lovely breeze and view will be enough to reguvinate you for the trek back down. The museum also has a lot to offer and is quite informative. Again, it can be difficult for taller people but it is still a nice experience.
Very interesting collection of items. The lighthouse itself was really cool, especially the staircase leading to the top
Cute. Exciting view. Great side trip
Over 170 steps to the top, well worth it beautiful view.
Fabulous volunteers, great sights. Plan for 177 steps up that are narrow and can be seen through. We paid $7 to get in, worth it. Especially considering that it isn't government funded.
Really really liked it. We had a blast!
This is my first stop on my quest to visit as many light houses in the southeast as possible. The view is great and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you to the staff for making this a positive experience for me and my family.
Nice place to tour. Lots of steps, 177 to be exact and they are numbered with brass plates.
Awesome makeshift “portrait selfie stand” with nail to aim photos to include full-height lighthouse
Beautiful grounds. All is well taken care of. We really enjoyed this one!
177 steps to the top and I did not go. Heights fear. Everything else was epic. Remember its naval space you need your identification before you enter.
The lighthouse was a truly delightful tour, it is a rather significant climb about 220 steps... And they are someone slippery and the handrail comes in very handy... On the way up if you have the handrail you are to give it to the people coming down... So there can be some passing around as you're going up and down it wasn't too busy the day we showed up but it was a beautiful view delightful staff very interesting artifacts very interesting displays downstairs in the museum we could have spent much more time there but we were able to wrap it up in a couple hours
Love this place! Incredible views from the top! Fun & Interesting! Great museum! Well worth the trip!
We had a great time visiting the lighthouse and museum. The staff were all very knowledgeable and helpful. The views from the top of the lighthouse are amazing. Do note that it is within the Navy base and if you're a civilian, you must enter and leave from the West gate.
Great view from the top. Nice to see things like this still around. I dont think it should cost $7 to climb some steps though. That's outrageous. I get that there is up keep and maintenance cost. But $7 is a bit much.
While dropping my son off at flight academy the rest of the family decided to tour the museum and lighthouse. It was beautiful from the top
A wonderful old lighthouse chock-full of history since its building and of the surrounding land. Terrific photographic opportunities abound throughout this entire area. Was not open to climb to the top. This is definitely a must visit. Highly recommend!
Great place to visit. It's quite a hike up all the steps, but it worth the views. And there are many areas on the way up and down, to take a breather. But no bags of any kind are allowed, nor can you wear flip flops.
Interesting the light house was right because there's so little room in it
Me and my family made a trip to the light house and it was great but I would like to put some advice out there. I am a 100 percent service connected disabled veteran. I have a service dog that we also take with everywhere if I can give some advice if you have a service dog these workers are all for it and love them. But as a person that has a service dog and it was a German Shepherd with 2 years of training to be a ptsd service dog. I suggest not to take the service dog up. My dog had no issue going up but coming down she was like nope I belive it was due to the looking down though the steps and no floor being under her. But as a personal review for anyone that has a service dog please think twice for this being one spot to skip you buddy coming with. I am glad she after I picked her up for a few steps and got her moving she made the walk down else trying to carry a 65 pound dog would have been impossible bc the way the steps are made. Just some. Friendly advice since I was told my dog has only been maybe the second one that has come though there doors. But a great experience.
Visited here with my family on vacation. It was very well kept and great photo opportunity up top. The stairs are narrow and kind of tricky coming down If there are several people there that day. Once up top we got to chat with one of the volunteers who is only there Tuesdays..he was great. Very friendly shared some stories and he took our families picture up top. Wish I could rememeber his name...first shop is cute also. The museum is nice to walk around in after being hot and sweaty.
If you like checking out Historical sites you love it.
Nice view from the top and not a hard climb, but the railing is really sticky.
Didn't like being charged 8 dollars to use the rest room. After I had spent 80 dollars in the gift shop.
Lots of history and great view. Definitely go on a clear day to get the full experience. Make sure you wear shoes with backs or you have to go barefoot! Don't want to trip and fall down those stairs.
Great place to visit. Just make sure you wear shoes if you want to climb the light house.
The climb was hard but it was worth it. The museum properly portrays what it was like then. The keeper of the lighthouse is nice and answered our questions. It was an amazing view. Great trip
This place is amazing! The woman at the top of the lighthouse was super sweet and had alot of knowledge about the history of Pensacola and was able to point out different landmarks. A really cool experience all around!
Beautiful lighthouse. What a view from the top! According to my brave grandsons.
A very quiet place with great history. The views from atop the light house are incredible. There are spots along the way up to step aside and rest. There are a bunch of great things to read and learn about.
A historical site worth visiting, with a picturesque view of the Gulf Coast on top of the lighthouse.
Great sight to visit and expierence.
We like to challenge ourselves to climb all the way to the top at least once a season. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring your best game.
Cool place to see, be sure to bring your walking shoes.
