This Museum is included in the category of Art museum.
Fun at the art museum on a rainy Ft Lauderdale day. Several interesting exhibits.
Lots of unique modern art from the often overlooked perspective of African and Cuban artists.
Bonnie Clearwater has put the NSU on the map with a progressive and academic yet approachable program. Most cities should be as lucky as we are....
A place for modern day artist with revolutionary Ideas and unlimited creativity. Love the NSU Art Museum
Not bad, selection is not that impressive. but worth a visit. 3.5 stars
The Frieda + Diego exhibition was well done! Worth going and wish I could have stayed more. Beautiful building!
Nicer contemporary museum than PAM.
Fresh exhibit of art. Good for a drop in during ft Lauderdale shopping...
Amazing and authentic art pieces.
Definitely worth a visit!
Very interesting pictures and paintings exposition there!
Great spot to check out in fort Lauderdale nice art & very spacious.
Cute little Museum I checked out during free museum day. Not as large as I thought but I did enjoy the art and installations inside. There was a guide who provided a few extra details that I wouldn't have known, so I'm happy I did the tour. Overall not bad, check them out.
When I was visiting they were exchanging exhibits so there was not much to see. But otherwise it was a nice museum.
Interesting great art and well curated.
Wonderful display of art with a special African collection. A little small, but they were renovating when I visited, so they will be expanding soon. Great tour guides who were knowlegable and excited to share their love of art.
Kids enjoy very much
Its a great place to hang out and enjoy art
Simply amazing. Love Glackens/Renoir exhibit
Great collection & curator & gift store
Free for students, decent cafe with reasonable prices. Come in for a snack and then walk the exhibit halls. Two floors and friendly staff make for an excellent 90-120 min excursion, perhaps more if you include lunch.
Huge area did not like the artist they were showcasing though. Will try again as soon as I am sure the last artist has moved on
BONNIE CLEARWATER HAS MADE IT GREAT. We took the Brightline from West Palm Beach (delightful 40 minute trip) and then the shuttle to the Museum to see the Frank Stella Show. It looks like the strategy is for Bonnie to curate one spectacular show every year or two (the last one was the Anselm Kiefer show) that will being people from allover the world to this "regional university museum".........and it's working. As it turns out, the building was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes who focused more on how the interior worked as a museum than how the building looked as a piece of sculpture. THUS, HAVING A GREAT DIRECTOR/CURATOR couldn't be more well served. THE STELLA SHOW is world class. Read the monograph. WE'RE JOINING THE MUSEUM.
small and too modern. has a very good collection of Picasso's and Lam's. Also an interesting collection of African tribes sculptures.
Good museum for share in family. We spent a great time there.
I use to go there to eat when I worked in the area. The food is actually very good, little bit on the pricey side but it is a museum after all and going toward a great cause!! The exhibits are not that bad either. Overall a solid place!
I love art museums, and visit new ones every time I travel. NSU is ok, just not a lot to see. We planned 4 hours to view the art here. We were finished in 1 hour. The special exhibits were good, just sparse.
Since i like art it was a great place to visit!
Pretty interesting Museum & Exhibit, glad I decided to check it out for Free First Thursdays (which was my first time!). Interesting exhibits indeed...
Pretty small museum. Only took 15 minutes to finish. We also had an argument with security guard for not allowing us to bring a diaper bag inside which we were forced to just put everything in a plastic bag.
I went to view the Frank Stella art exhibit, it was an amazing experience. The museum is well taken care of and has a small cafe inside. It is worth a visit if you have the time.
So beautiful...
The museum is free on Thursdays 4-8, and people do take advantage of that, as did I. Although it was packed, I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! Must do in downtown Fort Lauderdale!
Beautiful and classy
Great exhibitions, knowledgeable and helpful staff
I had been to NSU Art Museum once before and enjoyed it but wouldn't have rushed back except that they had a special Frank Stella exhibit which was fabulous! I would definitely keep an eye out for special exhibits!
A must-see museum. It is discounted for students and military as well. It had several interesting pieces. I enjoyed Frank Stella's art work.
This place is exquisite. The staff is friendly and the food is appropriately priced. Parking was a breeze and you can only take pictures on the 2nd floor.
Very open and spacious exhibition areas. Relies too heavily on permanent collection and "from the collection of" groups. Could be much better. A lot of exhibitions run for 4+ months - too long.
Great intimate museum with interesting exhibitions.
Great outing with the children
Really nice place
Nice hidden gem in downtown. The quality of exhibits is great. I enjoyed my visit very much. Will be back.
They had a very good Renoir Glackens traveling show. I can't believe they got something that was that high quality in that it's a little museum compared to Dallas even, yet they have plenty of room and some Renoirs that I had never seen that were amazing!
Great small museum with some interesting in-depth exhibitions. Huge galleries really enable the works to be beautifully displayed. Plan about 1h to see everything. There is a cafe and a small gift shop.
Love this museum. Starry nights once a month are great for children. One suggestions for starry nights would be to show children exhibit, then have them do the craft ( which is related to the exhibit) and towards the end, have children present their crafts to all the parents for a great finale.
Awesome experience especially for the unbelievable price just a ton of different art and exhibits from African relics to amazing oil paintings totally worth the buck super cheap but clean museum big and lots to see cant believe there are any reviews other than 5 stars
All depends on the current exhibit. NSU Art Museum is fine for what it is, which is basically a gallery for traveling exhibits. The permanent collection is mostly modern art, nothing too remarkable or memorable. We were fortune to visit during an exhibit of Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera art. It was wonderful and well worth the visit. Be it not for an exhibit that interests you personally, the NSU is one that can probably be skipped.
Take a picture with your mind it will last forever
Poor exhibit boring
Most was closed so we did not get to see what we wanted to.
Wonderful museum where you may not expect it. Excellent collections and starting March 7th, Thursday nights are free. Plus they have great lectures -- check out the on on March 7, 2019 at 5:30pm about Frida Kahlo. Great intro to the opera Frida which will be performed March 16-30th by Florida Grand Opera www, fgo, org. Maestro Rodriguez's work never disappoints. The Glackens/ Renoir show was fantastic. Beautiful pieces and nor normally seen in’big’ Exhibitions. Especially true of the Renoir pieces. The connection of the Renoir effect on Glackens is clearly shown. The curators did a great job. Highly recomm7.
The Fort Lauderdale gay men's chorus performance was fabulous
A delightful experience Office often rotating art and events. A contemporary exhibit hall with an eclectic mix of items. Really a true treasure in the middle of cement city. The food is great too.
Wish they had more exhibit
The 60th anniversary party was celebrated on a lovely Sunday afternoon! The museum's location is ideal. Close proximity to culture, entertainment, dining and recreation.
FREE FOR BROWARD COLLEGE STUDENTS! omg i love the museum so much, when i went they had the coolest pieces!!
Nice museum, small, easy to navigate. Friendly staff.
The guards are rude and the art is meh. I’ll give Fort Lauderdale some points for trying though
A wonderful exhibit: Glackens and Renoir, May 2019. Plus other great things to see at NSU ART Museum, FT Lauderdale
Exhibits were wonderful, need to return to finish trying to see everything on both floors
This Museum is a beautiful place to visit.
This museum, always a center of excellence, had a lovely Renoir exhibit. It was well-placed, well-lit, and well worth seeing.
The museum is a wonderful experience for visitors & locals
Awesome collection for such a small space. They weren't busy, so the lead security guard (very witty Jamaican lady, forgot her name) actually gave us a personal tour of the first floor. Picasso, Malevich, Rauschenberg and purvis young make this a must see for any modern art fan.
Third trip to this museum and I was happy to view the new collection. The museum offers a variety of collections rotating throughout the year so I try to stop in and enjoy regularly.
Great service
Smaller more manageable w guests, Renoir VS Glackens contrast & comparison, plus well done museum
Great place to visit when coming to Las olas. Art is amazing and changes every few months. But the best part of the museum is the five star bathrooms. Created in a modern and abstract way, be confused when you are ready to wash your hands. Cheap admission and a cafe is in side if you get hungry. Art Basel is also a great thing to go to every year, when you get out you'll be art frazzled.
I am delighted, such an unreal combination of different times and technologies in art can be traced to how the general perception of beauty has changed, a lot of impressions, I regret not having visited the museum before
Renoir and Glackens Show was divine with interesting and honest assessments of the work!
Nice place to go for an event
Incredible Renoir and glackens exhibit! Go see it....
The best museum I went to on the east coast! Classics and contemporary in one building. It was a well thought out and intentional display of relaxant art work.
The best museum I went to on the east coast! Classics and contemporary in one building
Beautiful art work!! Great place to take the family or go just a date !!! A lot of cool sculptures and paintings !!
They had really good stuff. And the environment was great!
Always changing exhibitions, usually worth a look.
Nice experience, small but fun gallery. Check out the free admission nights, bring the kids they usually have art activities for children.
Every visit to the NSU Art Museum confirms that the curation is on a world class level. The show up now is selected works from the museum's collection, The wide range of artists juxtaposed as they are informs the visitor of a view of contemporary art history that helps to have a clearer understanding of where we've been, and where we're going.
I'm not a big modern art fan, I admit it, I just don't get it, but that's not why the low rating was given, it's because they have about 20 security guards in such a small museum and they follow you around every where you go, and I mean they follow you closely! It's so annoying. You would think the exibits we're loose jewelry or something the way they stalk you. It's fine to have some guards standing around watching, but no needs to follow the patrons around within arms reach!
Very nice 2/3rd of galleries were closed for renovations
This is a great museum! Elegant and very pleasant to visit!!
The staff was helpful with the kids.
Disapointed. It is small not a good selection on display. Maybe another time
Great exhibits all year round. Loved the FRANK STELLA exhibition!
Absolutely amazing place to go
A nice place to be to appreciate different kind of art, place in the middle of Fort Lauderdale in a very exciting avenue. You can go a enjoy the masterpieces of local and other artists, and later you are in the right place to go and have a good time with friends and family.
Very impressed, if you're visiting don't miss it, if ya live here go! Support this awesome museum
Great exhibit with tons of pieces by Glackens
Frank Stella exhibit is great! And the permanent art from Eduard Duval-Carrier
January 20, 2018 My Husband and I were participants today, Inside The Artist's Studio: Rachel Joan Henriques. Rachel's Studio is a wonderful space. Rachel treated us to a most informative and inspiring lesson about the process of Printmaking and Screen-Printing. Her passion and knowledge of this very complex Art Form was most impressive. Her work is so interesting, we found that the layers that she builds into her work are fascinating and storied. These techniques are exacting and labor intensive and Rachel explained them so well. The set up was lovely and inviting and we would recommend that people see her wonderful work and also to participate in any other workshops NSU Museum of Art may offer. It was a sheer delight and the mix of people attending were interested and interesting. Also to note, Rachel had an Assistant at the Workshop who was very personable and helped guide Guests to some of her other works in the Studio explaining, highlighting and elaborating on some concepts she was presenting. Thank you for a great two hours and to our most gracious Host and Artist, Rachel Henriques.
I love this modern museum for many reasons, one of which is the fact that they consistently exhibit artists that I like. Purves Young, William Glackens, Picasso, Renoir and others are 'regulars'. The art educators give a great guided tour and the cafe/shop is a pleasant place to snack or shop after touring the museum.
Small but very nice exhibits
Amazing photos!
Great place to spend your day off.
Small , simple museum don't expect much....
I went to check out the expo of Picasso. Liked it interesting need to see for yourself.
One of the best modern contemporary museums in South Florida for the art museum goer (or just someone that appreciates trying anything new) to get JUST ENOUGH. A lot of museums are pretty big that easily desensitizes people visually from being interested in the artwork or well-curated show after only 30-45 mins. This museum welcomes you with a nice, simple and light feeling after passing its colorful, fun modern murals and beautifully designed stairs to an event exclusive loft reserved for fancy openings and member banquets. If you love wine tastings, state-of-the-art (hah!) beautifully curated exhibitions, a SERIOUSLY cool nifty gift shop (srsly best place for Christmas presents for my close friends) next to a delicious cafe, great education programming for both kids AND adults (like forreal I can drink AND make art?!), an amazing volunteer service and staff, and all the reason to just dress nice for events-you should be a member here. I was a student at NSU (which all NSU students get free admission!)
Great collection of contemporary and modern art, too bad photography isn't allowed! Still worth the visit.
Awesome cultural. Public Parking 1 block away
Great exhibitions, permanent collection not so much.
Very nice art museum. Definitely range advantage of free admission on the 1st Thursday
Modern, modern, modern. Not many pieces in a space that has a lot of room. Underutilized. Very simple and missing a taste factor. There were some pieces in the 2nd floor visiting exhibits of historical proportions, however, very small.
Beautiful and Chill museum. Great exhibit Frank Stella and a selection of an Eclectic home collection. Loved my visit.
Curator is innovative and thoughtful. Interesting exhibits in a beautiful setting
Great Museum! Loved the Art Work
Free events partnered with banks make it accessible to all. Small collections and rotating collections - there may be something for you or there may not be.
If you love art! Love art!
This is a small museum that belongs to Nova Southeastern University. Most of the time the exhibits aren’t anything extraordinary but once in a while they will bring very interesting collections such as Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Botero. Make sure to visit their website or call to inquire about entry because they have free entry very often, which will definitely make your visit worth it since parking around the block is only about $1.50 an hour and the museum is so small you probably won’t spend more than an hour inside. The gift shop has some interesting knickknacks and the cafe is just okay, I had a cappuccino and my husband an expresso and they were just okay, nothing special but not bad. Overall a good experience, I’ve been here a couple times and definitely will keep coming back.
It's very special place to learn the history.
If you want unique statement jewelry, this is your place. Designed by artists and extremely reasonable pricing. $40-$125 for pieces only you'll be wearing around town. Their exhibits switch out often and are stunning. History and art melded.
A place to learn and have fun. Don’t lost this opportunity!
Excellent Museum and so much to look at. Only thing is people at the front desk are douchbags
Nice collection of Picasso Pottery
Many people think that Fort Lauderdale lacks culture and I would point them here. They do a really good job of changing up the exhibits every quarter or two. If you are a local, I would recommend signing up for an individual membership. Runs about $90/year. This gives you access to the museum all year around for free as well as many of the premiers for new exhibits, lectures, and other events. They make the premiers a whole big event with cocktails & appetizers.
The exhibit comparing William Glackens's paintings to those of Renoir is excellent. So is "60 Years of Collecting"
I would love to say more, but the basic selection of Museum Art apart from the shows is ugly, uninspiring and boring. So much incredible art out there in this amazing creative part of the country and this Museum is completely lacking as a representative of that. As they shop around for new acquisitions, they must look at what is directly in front of them. Picasso might be special, but his later works bordered on the awful. We have so much better art available to us now that should be given a place on the walls of this museum and costs so much less.
I loved this place!!!! The staff were extremely friendly and the collections were incredible. I took a cruise leaving from ft Lauderdale, and when I got back, I had some time to spare so I visited this incredible museum. Lots of art to look at - being contemporary, it is not for everyone, but I thoughtfully enjoyed myself.
Exibits are always a pleasure to see, the small cafe in the lobby is a perfect place for a relaxing cup of coffee or tea after walking around
Had an okay experience. I had to come here for an art project for school so I was let in for free, which was very nice. I was handed a paper that showed what was on the different floors. I went to the first floor and saw what there was and was trying to find the other floor. Evidently that’s the only other floor and the first exhibit is somewhere in the first floor..? So in the elevator I was trying to figure it out, pushed the buttons twice and decided to just leave. As I was leaving a security guard approached me and asked if everything was okay. I said I was fine and she was telling me about how her and her supervisor noticed I was having trouble and was asking me a bunch of questions as if I was some kind of terrorist. Then called me out on drinking my water bottle when they’re not allowed in the gallery, when I drank my water in the elevator... very poor security customer service and weird strict rules. Had creepy, unhappy security guards in every gallery room that were almost sleeping unless you walked by them and they would follow you. Would highly recommend to avoid.
Such a great learning experience. It's so peaceful and quiet here.
A small, but very interesting museum that focuses on modern art. If you are interested in a museum that is not on top of everyone's list of go-to museums, this is it. I was particularly impressed by the drawings and pottery of Picasso and the big collection of paintings by Renoir. Recommended!
A focus for art in Fort Lauderdale. Intelligently and well curated exhibitions on pare with the best of South Florida. A hot spot for internationally acclaimed artist exhibitions accompanied by periodic lectures and docent led tours. A wonderful afternoon visit while in the Las Olas area.
Wonderful collection of art!
Ok
NSU Art Museum is home to the most carefully curated and impressive collections! They have ceramics by Picasso, paintings by Renoir and the ONLY Frida Kahlo on exhibition in Florida. The Museum Cafe has delicious food that is reasonably priced...especially for the area, the shops have the best gifts and they have so many ongoing events that I can bring my kids to, like Free First Thursdays. My 7 year old loves the monthly crafts in the lobby and I like the 2-for-1 drink specials and free tours. Definitely part of what makes Fort Lauderdale a force to be reckoned with in the art and culture world!
I had a blast Everytime I visit.
Nice small museum that hosts well curated exhibits.
Nice contemporary art show. The museum is a piece of fine architecture, it is sad that the surrounding does not match the piece. Urban planning is not something Florida can take pride of. There is a gazillion parking spots around, all metered. Nice visit.
Wow! This is best museum in all Miami and Fort Lauderdale area
Beautiful works. The front desk was extremely helpful and polite. Security is mad tight
I LOVE ART!!!
I though it was bigger and interesting, but honestly for the price no worthy ....
Rather quirky place...
Wonderful museum - not too large but a nice refreshing change of pace from the beach. Interesting art and the history of it's original owner from NY was nice background.
The Frank Stella exhibit was very comprehensive.
You will love this place if you are a fan of art. You will see examples of Picasso and other famous artists, European and American. All artwork are labeled with name of piece and name of artist. Also, there are lots of extra pieces of information about the artists, themselves, as well as their influences.
Need more impact art
Good exhibition. Very small. Saw everything including readings in 45 minutes
Very nice museum. I have been many times and I love it everytime. They also have very interesting lectures
Great exhibits. Fabulous staff. Super nice valet outside. Great place to take the kids
Lots of different tupes and styles of art. Something will appeal to you.
Awesome experience for mi kid
Most boring exhibits ever, $12 entry fee each, we were there for 30 minutes and left. Count parking costs and we blew through $30. Not to mention the courtyard was closed off with iron gates probably to keep out the homeless that have setup a camp in front of the main library across the street. Absolutely disgusting that the city allows that. What are they using my tax dollars for!?
This Place is the best I like it so much I want there with my friend from school.
New exhibits every few months! Great for art history buffs
Good place. Nice and clean. Just needs more to see
Good Art Museum. Worth to go there if you live near
They give our group a wonderful tour
Really good place to go for those who likes art. The gallery os very neat and had some pretty interesting pieces! The way to get there os kind of difficult though because of all the constructuions going on.
A fun thing to do on a rainy day. I'm not really an 'art person' but I found the exhibits interesting and fun.
Great temporary exhibitions but check before going there
Beautiful museum. Both exhibits were interesting and a unique work of art. Gift shops have books and usual gifts, jewelry, and artifacts. Enjoyable afternoon downtown at Las Olas. Highly recommended.
A perfect way to display arts easy and interesting even for non experts.
It was a nice museum, nice bathroom, situated in a nice area, but also pretty small. You could see all the work in less than an hour. Has nice exhibit rooms.
Free admission for the 60th birthday, caje, fun events, and photo ops for the kids.
Friendly and helpful staff and quite interesting exhibits
