The staff were all polite, one of the exhibits was closed so the tickets were discounted. The exhibits we saw were basically just Wikipedia descriptions glued on the walls. Was kind of disappointed until we saw the Kentridge exhibit. This was a breathtaking piece that flipped our attitude towards our visit. The mix of video, music, and stop motion was captivating.

(Translated by Google) Very nice museum, on the first floor there was an exhibition about Cuban immigration and another about the history of America with impressions and old books. On the second floor was the art exhibition, we could take pictures with a camera and we had a lot of fun observing and playing with the effects of light and colors. As they were doing spare parts and there was noise, they charged us less for the entrance. The excellent attention. En el segundo piso estaba la exposición de arte, pudimos sacar fotos con cámara y nos divertimos mucho observando y jugando con los efectos de luz y colores. Como estaban haciendo refacciones y había ruido, nos cobraron menos la entrada. La atención excelente.

(Translated by Google) I consider a lack of respect to the visitor who does not inform himself previously that the best of the exhibition is NOT AVAILABLE NOW. People come from afar and are frustrated in a place with difficult parking to not be able to access what was promised on the official website.

Small two floor museum but packed with modern artworks, in an artfully beautiful garden. Detailed descriptions of the artworks and synopsis of the artists’ lives are much appreciated. Not to be missed in Miami!

There's some really interesting bits of history and some fab artifacts but it's limited and not art and design related in any way. There was an interesting instalation with political and social commentary that was very thought provoking, hard to explain to children but we tried. Interesting, but check what's their as art and design museum was not what we saw. My son is very interested in design which is why we went and why it only got 3 stars as there wasn't anything really relavent to design. The building itself is interesting and it has information about local historic immigration.

This museum of art and design also served as an entry port for Cubans and has a permanent exhibit of that time period. Interesting to understand that history period from the point of view of those people.

I thought this was free but they charged us $8.00 for no art or design. It was history related about the cuban culture. My friend and I even walked on the side of the building when we left just to make sure it really was the museum of art and design. Its really misleading. They kept saying come back later to the free event to see the second floor. They are literally scamming tourist who don't know the area. We were tourist from Atlanta so unfortunately we got, got. Just a heads up to others.

from Rome and from miami

A true pearl, looking forward to the opening after renovations

It is a beautiful building, a real Miami landmark. It is a must see. The first floor of the museum displays artefacts linked to the Cuban refugees that came to US in the 1960's. The second floor exposes local and famous artists, mainly linked on post-modern art. Definitely a great attraction.

(Translated by Google) Okay! I was interested in visiting this museum after seeing on its website that it would be open in spring 2018 after renovations, I had read that its entrance was free and that donations could be made. When I arrived at the door, they asked me for an entrance fee and then wanted to sell me a membership to also go to another museum. After talking a little more with the girl at the entrance it turns out that it is not all the museums that are on the membership list. :( (Original) Ok! :(

(Translated by Google) Of mandatory visit in downtown Miami, the Freedom Tower (1925) has a small museum to remember when the historic -and symbolic- building, near to disappear demolished on several occasions due to its central location and its old construction, was the first refuge of the Cuban newcomers in the exodus of 1961-1972 and of the children of the criticized program Peter Pan. Cubans fleeing the Castro dictatorship at their earliest stage were treated here to receive medical and dental insurance and residence papers. Originally the tower was the headquarters of the newspaper The Miami News until 1957. For $ 11 million was sold to Jorge Mas Canosa in 1997, although official data say it was $ 4 million. It was declared a national monument in 1979. The 100-year-old building has also entered the most representative architecture of Florida with its Mediterranean style. James Middleton Cox in 1926 and the architect Richard Hiessenbottle in 87 developed it. Its 78-meter dome reminds the Giralda of Seville. In 2003 more than 20 thousand people went to pay homage to Celia Cruz after her death. In 2005 the Mas Canosa family donated it to Miami Dade College, to then become the Cuban-American museum (1st floor) and where important exhibitions and activities and children's recreations take place in their 2nd and 3rd levels. In 2015 the Republican senator from Florida chose this place to launch his presidential campaign. Also in 2015 the King of Spain Felipe VI received here the presidential medal of the high distinction of Miami Dade College. Although the tower is usually illuminated in red at night, which is very easy to identify on the Biscayne boulevard, different colors of lights dress it according to the date or celebration. Schönes Museum mit Sonderausstellungen im zweiten Stock. Besuch lohnt sich.

Chris Gravell

Great venue, but beware the over zealous security guard. After paying $ to visit the exhibits, stepped outside and sat down on ledge to hail an Uber...and five seconds later the guard rushes out to tell me not to sit down...despite no sign indicating this. Most unfriendly experience in Miami so far. Thank you.

This event was in the Freedon Tower. Well known to Cubans who immigrated to the US. It's the equivalent to Ellis Island for Europeans that inmigrated.
