Very interesting history of the Islamorada keys and surrounding area, as well as the local fish and sea life. Enjoyed the video about the 1935 hurricane that shaped the area. Very knowledgeable docents.

Worth a visit. The museum has good material (includes old films) to reflect Florida Keys interesting history. The short films on building the railway, 1935 hurricane and introduced plants were interesting and shown in a comfortable film theatre. However the films did not always run as they were supposed to.

Frank Derfler

Don't miss this! I practically grew up in the 60s - 70s with descendants of Warren Russell and am amazed at how much I learned here. He was a boy when the '35 hurricane hit. So many details to flesh out their stories. I love Islamorada. I wish the quieter days could return. Be sure to do the walking tour and check the books for sale. I'm currently enjoying "Charlotte's Story". It would be fabulous as a movie.

This museum is pretty small, but it does have cool information about the keys. Regardless, it would have been worth it had we not been yelled at by the grounds caretaker for standing in the parking lot for 5 minutes while we waited for the last member of our party to rejoin us. She was incredibly rude for no reason and completely ruined the experience.

World class museum easily overlooked as you drive down the Keys. Be sure to stop. Excellent artifacts and displays of Keys history. The theater is fabulous. I knew a lot about Flagler's Overseas Railroad already, but I found their film to be the best single source of information for that incredible tale.
