While in Key West we looked for places our kids would enjoy. The Key West Aquarium was perfect. A hands on tank in the front allowed kids to touch aquatic life. An employee was there to talk about the creatures and how best to interact with them. She gave our kids a personalized experience they loved. As we walked through the small building a blue lighting with tranquil music made for an ideal setting. Children of the right age range could feed a shark at the end of a presentation on the sharks. Outdoors a large tank is the setting for other presentations. These are informative and allow for people of all ages to throw food into the fish. At the conclusion of one show a great employee took time to give some additional hands on learning with our kids. We enjoyed ourselves so much we went back again the next day.
Small but great stop! Very informative. I enjoyed the variety of sea life they had! I could have watched the jellyfish all day!
This was a nice little aquarium that we toured in December 2018. The staff were friendly and we really enjoyed feeding the sharks. Our 2 year old had a wonderful time.
Lovely little aquarium. Worth stopping in and learning about their aquatic residents. Sea turtles are rescues which is great. Loved our visit.
Very educational for its size. Reasonable prices.
It was okay. Tourist trap, but it's great to see the fish. Otherwise, an aquarium is an aquarium.
..Fun for kids, with the interactive sharks feeding..
My wife, 10 year old daughter and I had a great time. We saw each of the presentations and spent an enjoyable 2 hours here.
Small aquarium, just ok. But kids will still enjoy. Great for a rainy day!
Great little aquarium. Shouldn't take more than an hour to go thru. Very informative shows.
Small place but lots of cool animals. The turtles are amazing.
Loved it had quick shows and scavenger hunt for kids
A great place to kill an hour. A little run down but great and informative staff
Barely an aquarium. Spent about 15 minutes total inside..
Very cool aquarium with informative marine biologists
Nice aquarium. They offer a military discount and all tickets are good for 2 days. The kids got to feed and interact with fish, sharks, rays, horseshoe crabs, etc.
Quintessential Key West experience! Must see!
Nice place very informative. Alot to see and learn. Be sure to feed the rays.
This is a small aquarium with a lot of little windows. I think the best thing about it is the interactive part for the kids. In one pool the kids can feed the stingrays right out of their hands. In the largest pool, you can throw food to the fish and watch them jump to catch the food.
This was an amazing place. They are very interactive and they do a lot of things with kids. This is a great place to bring kids or people who love animals. It was amazing. We got to hold things such as crabs in shells to starfish. I saw a lot of beautiful animals.
Very disappointing. This is Key West, a place of many sea creatures and would expect a better experience than I did. The sea turtles and sharks were barely in water and in a bathtub size container. It was small and had nothing to look at and see. There were two large cruise ships parked outside, I know they get business some how or another with as much tourism comes through Key West. It was a complete and utter shame. There were handmade signs that were put up and the maintenance on the building was poor. It should be illegal to take people's money like that and not provide an, at minimum, satisfactory experience. If a manager or owner should look at this review, do something about this. To visitors and cruiseship goers be warned : Don't waste your time here.
Save your money! Go only if you have kids to entertain while in Key West. I'm sure the staff does great work caring for the sharks, rays, turtles and assorted sea life there but for the amount of money they charge, it's not worth it.
Small but very nice aquarium. Lots of informative presentations where you get to feed sharks, sting rays, and the fish in the outdoor aquarium. Nice deck over the large outdoor area so you can look down and see all the fish. Two outdoor areas. Nice touch tank for the kids. Knowledgeable employees. Definitely a must see in Key West.
Amazing place, friendly staff, and several interactive areas.
For a small aquarium, this place was full of beautiful wildlife. The nurse sharks and the turtles really make this an outstanding place. Excited to see how it changes with the new construction.
Pricey at $15 a head considering the small size. Many of the tanks didn't label what kind of fish they held. It has a nice touch tank with horseshoe crabs, conches, and urchins, though, and people can help the staff feed the nurse sharks.
Small but cute aquarium with feeding exhibits that are informative and fun
Very cute. A little small, but you can feed a few different types of animals! A fun stop!
Cool small aquarium to kill time before the boat ride. Prices are reasonable. Family of 4 under $50.
Small aquarium, but brought alive by some good presentations!
Ok but certainly not worth the $15 price tag... At best $5
Pretty cool, great staff. The side outdoor space is my favorite.
Small aquarium but if you pay for admission today, you get tomorrow free, which is fantastic if you have small children. Every 30 minutes they have a short lesson about a different animal and usually a feeding including sharks, sting rays, and turtles. The guides are very passionate and knowledgeable. Absolutley worth checking out!
Great place. Interactive with being able to feed the sea life. Highly recommended.
Stop in and see this place. It is a must
Super cute, animals were active and the admission is good and allows for all day in/out entry to see all the shows.
This is a kid friendly place that can be enjoyed as a family on any type of weather. You can make this last a little longer if you stay for the presentations but the smaller kids may not have the patience for that.
Great way to get out of the heat, and let the kids explore
Seemed like half of the place was closed for renovation but they conveniently didn’t mention that when we purchased our tickets. WTH? There are a lot better places to spend your money on in KW, sorry. 3/4 of the staff were very friendly and liked their jobs, saving them from only two stars.
Feel the need to go back in time? That is what it feels like when visiting this longstanding Aquarium as it was built between 1932 and 1934. The aquarium is home to exhibits on alligators, atlantic shores, jellyfish, shark feedings, sea turtle conservation, and a touch tank.
We decided to stop here after our snorkeling trip was cancelled to get our fix of the beautiful aquatic life of the area. They have a great selection of fish, Gators, sharks and turtles. Would recommend.
Such a cool place! It was racing during my time and when I say raining, I mean dumping ! The facility could use some improvements but the wildlife were awesome!
Not the best aquarium I've been to, it was a little dark and dirty, and I think the price was too much for what you get. But the variety of sealife there was pretty interesting: sharks, alligators, turtles, jellyfish, cobras. I wouldn't go out of your way to go there, but if you have the time and money definitely check it out.
Good aquarium with great staff
This was a great stop in Key West. Our son got to feed a shark and the displays were very enjoyable. Nice lighting to see the fish.
Beautiful small Aquarium. My 7 month old had a lovely time seeing all the different sea critters.
Awesome experience, kids got to feed the critters!
Its a cool aquarium but is very small. My son got to feed the sharks which was a cool experience.
Small but very nice for all ages. And a little way to get away from the unforgiving heat.
It may not seem very impressive from the outside, but the walls were lined with aquariums and we got to see a shark feeding. I actually loved it, it was well worth the price of admission (the air conditioning was also stellar)
Very cool fun place. Must go to the shows (otherwise will be just okay)! Kid loved it, especially feeding Sharks!!! Exceeded our expectations!
Very small but interesting place.. A few touch tanks.
Great exhibits and fantastic presentations by the staff. Really enjoyed it!
This place is small but a very nice and educational aquarium to learn more about how to preserve our ocean animals
My grandson loved it very nice all should go
Very interactive. One of my favorite experiences in Key West so far
Our experience here was nothing short of amazing! It may not be the worlds largest, or the most state of the art. But that's not what this aquarium is about. This is a small, but historic aquarium, right downtown Key West, on the water. The best part was to hear the rescue story of a couple of sea turtles, then to witness them putting a prosthetic flipper on 2 of them. How amazing!
Pretty cool & not too expensive.
While in Key West the aquarium was closed both days we tried to go. A tradition with the wife is to go to a local zoo when we travel. The aquarium was the closest thing to a zoo in Key West. But was closed "due to technical difficulties." The sign said they would be open the next day, Wednesday. But on Wednesday (not sure if the day is correct, but it was consecutive days) the sign now read Thursday. We were very disappointed.
It was really kool got to feed sharks and see neat fish.
Small but nice to see. Very nice guides and helpfull by any questions
Lots of biodiversity, fun interactive feedings
Fantastic! Carolyn is a wonderful tour guide, very knowledgeable and friendly.
Please touch! Neat little aquarium.
Nice little aquarium with plenty of fishy friends. Informative and friendly staff as well.
Smaller than I expected but is a great place for youth.
Fun time and friendly people. My son fed the sharks and theres a hands on tank to play in.
It's not that big, but a perfect place to spend and hour or two with the kids.
A bit expensive for the experience... especially because we arrived 45 minutes before closing, but we still enjoyed it.
Great little aquarium. The informational talks by the keepers are awesome, and you get a chance to feed the fish.
Don’t fooled by it being small. This was the best aquarium we’ve ever been too! They have it set up so there’s shows every 30 min. You get to feed sharks, fish and manatees! Very hands on and personal and all the shows and feedings are included! We spent 2 1/2 hours here, my 8 year old and 11 year old and us parents had a great time!
I loved this place. Girls here really care about animals here and you can feel it. They do have a lot nice and interesting presentations. Even if this place is small atmosphere here is very friendly and enjoyable. Thanks you a lot!
They have giant isopods, amazing. I wanted to take one home.
The size of this may not impress some but we found it interactive and neat. We stayed thru all the different feedings and enjoyed it a great deal. They have a large puffer that they have trained to come up to a bucket float for treats. They fed stingrays and nurse sharks, tarpons and barracuda. Cool place worth supporting, they have a rescued turtle -Lola, who lost a fin. The octopus and albino bamboo shark were so cool as well.
Don't let the small size fool you. We have been to some rather large aquariums and I think this one was the best yet! Great staff and fun interacting with the animals.
Small but amazimg aquarium. Love the turtles. Interesting variations om sea life
You are right there with the wild life!
It was nice but too small for the price of tickets
It was amazing. I had really good time there. Every 30 minutes feeding shows are there
I love key west.great place to be.ill be back
Aquarium is a little small and unique. Layout is a little different than your typical aquarium, however, the amount of marine life is amazing to see! Definitely worth it!
Small facility, wish it was a little larger. Great variety of 'residents', even some baby crocs! Touch tank for kids! The Python was cool too. Cute little gift shop.
Small but really good. AC in Key West is great and if you hang out they have nice little talks and demos. They let you hold the squid to feed the sting Ray's. They give out 10 cards to hold the tongs to feed the nurse sharks. My son loves sharks and got to fed one, childhood highlight! Not big but we really enjoyed the 4 hours we spent there.
Very interactive aquarium. Smaller and hidden away but very much worth finding. They have a variety of local marine life. Their feeding shows are awesome. See what time the feedings are and get a chance to feed stingrays by hand and sharks with a tool. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
The tanks for the fish , all of them need to be cleaned. To much algae in the tanks. There should be hand sanitizer or hand washing station.
Really good and the presentations were fantastic.
Please come and support this wonderful aquarium. The staff takes such amazing care of these beautiful creatures. I had a rare experience of visiting while it was slow, which made the time I spent more memorable. I will always make my way back to Key West just for this aquarium alone.
Awesome. although it is not very big very instructive and interanctive. We had a great time
A decent exhibit of aquatic life. The place could be a little bigger as it's really not bigger than 2000 sqft on the inside. I suggest buying tickets ahead of time to get discounts. I'm not sure if I would purchase these tickets again as there are plenty of other things to do in Key West.
It's a super small aquarium but it's a great experience. They have fish feedings and shark feedings that you get to participate in and they give alot of awesome information about all of the fish/animals they have in their care. I can't wait to be able to go back and visit again.
great aquarium - thought it was a little expensive, but when you are on vacation, its what you do
Very good but $12 per person doesn't make sense.
Quite interesting prople are knowledgeable but a little over price
Small but cute .. a good place to take the kids and kill some time. It was clean and definitely unique.
It was a great day! Saw them feeding the fish.
Small but cute. My toddler had a fun time.
Very nice just normal
love all the sealife here, very informative..got to feed a nurse shark n touch a conch..see a sea turtle & seahorses & all kinds of fish ..
My 9 year old enjoyed feeding the nurse sharks. The lady working was very informative. They have a touch tank for the kiddos. Definitely a small aquarium, nothing like the big ones.
The employees are very informative about the wildlife! It was great to see the presentation on the turtle, nurse sharks, and the heat about the lion fish!
What a great place. They have interactive things every half hour. Not to mention great fish and turtles and other creatures
Fun place for kids, but a little expensive ($15.99) for adults for such a small place. Only takes about 20-30 minutes to walk through, but what they do have inside is beautiful.
Great place with the kids! On a rainy day my children got to feed sharks and some fish for free. Obviously you have to pay admission
really nice aquarium... love their work with marine life and rehab center
Really great aquarium and very knowledgeable staff!
Good small aquarium. Dogs welcomed. Great break from heat.
It's a little aquarium but very nice. We had an enjoyable afternoon of looking at sea creatures , some we got to touch, and we also got to watch them feed the sharks.
This Aquarium is pretty small but it did have some interesting displays.
Fantastic. Interacting moments with the fish. Fed the stingrays.
Really nice place but a little bit too small
A must for understanding the creatures below.
This is a nice, small aquarium. My kids enjoyed the touch tank, as well as watching the sharks get fed. The staff members are friendly and they have several informational sessions each day. The outside area is still being fixed from damage from the hurricane.
I wasn't impressed with this attraction. Staff was helpful and friendly but it seems most likely under funded. Tanks/holding pools were not clean at all. Pretty sad. Surprised there was no hand cleaning g station before touching sealife in the touching tank. Hand washing station at exit had no soap or hand sanitizer so pretty useless to even have there.
Great educational sessions, very interactive. Remember, eat the Lion Fish!
Small, buy well put together.
I don't know who these people are reviewing this place and giving it 5 stars, but they must own the place. Its one inside room and a pond outside. I know some people that manage fast food restaurants that have bigger aquariums. The sharks could barely fill a bathtub....with me in it. If you go outside by the ocean you will need nose plugs. Took my life in my own hands when I went up to the observation deck to view the outdoor pond. Every step felt like I was on sand but I was on a wood deck. I wouldn't go back if they offered free pie, and I love pie. The ticket was good for two days so I guess they think that is a bonus.
Good information and interesting place to visit.
Nice older aquarium with conservation programs in progress. The fish and oceanic life are as curious about you as you are about them. Feeding demonstrations and touch aquarium add to the enjoyable interaction.
WOW!! A must see!! Inexpensive and super neat!! Their informative staff was friendly and helpful. There is a pool area where we were able to handle live horseshoe crabs.. hermit crabs the size of a grapefruit.. starfish and sand dollars. They have several animals they are rehabilitating. Check this place out. My whome family loved it!!
Today was a hotttttt day in Key West. Heavy air, storm building to the south. Just after lunch. Wife suggested we view the Aquarium . What a great idea, cool inside, interesting exhibits with more info than just a name. Volunteers happy to speak with you. A great place to find relief from the heat, and as the entry fee goes to helping a great cause, not so painful. Parking sucks, oh yeah, welcome to Key West.
The aquarium is a breath of fresh air, to know more about conservation efforts for wildlife and the environment. This is no Monterey Bay Aquarium, but it's nicely put together and offers a multitude of sea animals from the local area. The cool things: an area where people can touch things like sea snails (in shells), hermit crabs and sea urchins. Also they feed turtles in front of you which was very cool. They've got a large sea turtle and also quite a few nurse sharks in their small pools. Would be 5 stars if these animals in particular had a larger enclosure, as they normally travel quite a bit in their natural environments.
Great place to see some fish/sharks
Very convenient to the cruise ship terminal. Easy to see quickly. Not sure it would have been worth the full admission price because it is pretty small but we enjoyed it for what it was. You can see the whole thing in 20 minutes or so unless you happen upon a sea turtle chat. The talk was interesting and informative and the docents all seemed very well informed.
Cool place to stop by and get some AC while enjoying looking at the fish and sharks. Great info given on sea life.
Nice small aquarium with excellent staff and programs. Especially good place to take children.
Nice enough for a quick local place, but not really worth the price. There is a tank where you can touch and pick up starfish, conches, and other underwater creatures.
Such a fun little aquarium. The interactive pool was great
Awsome. So much to sea
It was cute Very small..not what i expected
This is a horrible place! And the smell made me sick. The tanks were so dirty, I felt sorry for the fish.
This historic aquarium has done a great job keeping up with the times. It has a wide range of fish and other specimens, including an outdoor mangrove swamp habitat.
I completely underestimated this place! My husband and I really enjoyed our visit. We have always wanted to see sea turtles but didnt want to have to go to the turtle hospital or dry tortugas. They have three resident turtles that have been rehabilitated. It was awesome seeing them put on their prosthetic fins. We're definitely going to return!
All it is just a bunch old fish tanks ans some some leaking water that you could see in somebody's house. save your money,
I love this place. It's small and unique. We fed the stingrays and it was so cool!
Really nice aquarium that works with multiple zoo's around the country to rehabilitate injured sea life. Great for kids and people of all ages.
Not the biggest bang for your buck. It's a nice interactive aquarium for kids to see and maybe even pet some sea creatures. However, it's a very small three section space. The large tanks can only by looked down into from above so you can't always see through the reflection or murky water.
It was a really cool aquarium... I enjoyed all if the fish and the shark tank and turtle tank.
Very cool small Aquarium. Appears to take very good care of creatures in their care.
The touchtank is a lot of fun. The aquarium overall is quite small.
They have the best customer service!
Small yet nice aquarium with interactive activities and demos. Highly ranked by kids (they saw alot of aquarius).
Nice small and informative aquarium. Great place for kids and adults to learn about sea life. Tickets are good for 2 days and they have a great selection of animals. Hands on horseshoe, and hermit crabs. Worth it.
Neat little stop on our tour of Key West. A lot of feedings going on during our visit. Very informative. We had fun!
Great for kids and the touch tank and shark feeding was awesome. 10 kids get to feed the sharks each time.
Relatively small aquarium but with interesting and informative programs. Feeding rays was the highlight for me.
We learned a lot during our visit. Christina is very knowledgeable!
Really neat, but a very small facility. Great to see the work they do with injured sea turtles. The highlight was watching the game fish feed!
Very caring staff, interesting shows, and great exhibits! Looks small but is still fun!
Incredible aquarium that dates back to 1934. Multiple exhibits. Multiple shows and presentations from the educators throughout the day. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Always available to answer questions and provide enrichment opportunities to adults and children. Feed a shark! Feed a stingray! There is a lot to learn and experience in this small, but mighty aquarium. I highly recommend everyone to spend a half day there!
A small aquarium but the exhibits and the shows done here and worth the money!!
Nice place and very nice staff.grandson had a ball. We will spread the word
Very nice. The interactive pool is very cool!
Lovely location. Wonderful staff. Very informative and interesting.
Not too big but cute. Very knowledgeable staff!!! Got to feed the sharks.
Do not go expecting a serious aquarium! For $17 you get to look at a couple things behind glass and watch the staff feed the nurse sharks in a small pool or feed the turtle (If he's in the mood). There are no animals to touch or stingrays to feed. Go with the intention of donating money to help buy prosthetics for sea life harmed by boaters and get out of the heat for an hour and you'll be satisfied.
This place is nice. Small but fun and very knowledgeable staff. My dogs attended too and loved the hospitality. Will definitely visit again
I enjoyed my visit but expected a larger facility for Key West and the price. Staff were friendly and talkative....
Great price for such a good aquarium with great shows with participation. Tickets work 2 days in a row which is nice.
