There are lovely people here and details here about the city of Miami I found very useful. It's good to get a strong understanding of Miami, before you get to deep into the visit. It's a very interesting city. In this museum, you'll find more information about Miami's past and present. You feel discouraged by the news of all the colonial warfare, uplifted by the revolutions and timeless sites of the city, and creative about how all of these projects and ideas could be intertwined and evolved to form other more peaceful societies as we progress globally and culturally. There are timeless pieces here, and pieces you wish you didn't know of. I'm confident the ideas in this building will make you think and start afresh about your career and sentiments towards different politics and life in general. Miami is a very globalized city with very locally specific cultures, roots, and ideas.

Pablo Zepeda

Miami’s definitive history museum! They have an awesome showcase of South Florida’s history dating from the Neolithic to modern times. They also host events such as Komorebi ( a bonsai enthusiast group ) and many others.

jenny ramas-suarez

For the ones that like history is really good. They even have interactive activities for kids. Very nice!

Juliana Baena

Place where you can go and find some information about how Miami started. How people from many countries came here looking for freedom. Also, how people from Haiti influenced other countries to fight to be free from slavery. PARKING $5.00. The place is in Downtown Miami and they have their how parking which you can validate when you get out of the museum. Don't pay $20.00. Don't be afraid from homeless!!!

Elisa Martinez

Great museum about history of Miami and Florida ! Also, great exhibition about LGBT history. The people were very nice and welcoming, always willing to help and give more details !

Mike Burkett

Recently visited History Miami Museum only to reunite with the planetarium projector used at the old Miami Museum of Science. I didn't have any expectations for the rest of the museum but was totally blown away by the end of my visit. If you're a transplant, tourist, or born and raised, History of Miami Museum is an absolute must visit. Extremely well put together and helpful staff.

Graham Martin

We did not know this place existed until the County Commission scheduled the Miami-Dade County Charter Review Task Force Public Hearings at this location. We traveled on the Metrorail and right across the street from the Government Center Station, the Miami Art Museum was discovered. We have now attended several displays and a conference and we are delighted to find yet another treasure in our County. From time to time, even movies are shown at this location. Affordable and open to the public.

John Hanek

Museum is very limited. Went to an event for Hispanic culture which was worth the trip.

Treasures Networks

Very cool place to learn about current and past miami culture.

Sharon Miniello

Nice place to spend an afternoon!

John Whitt

Okay, so it is not a world class museum, with artifacts from around the world. But the permanent exhibits provide a clear narrative of South Florida fascinating past. The temporary exhibits were okay. The place is family friendly and will take a couple hours, at the most, to explore. It is a very easy walk from the transit station, even during a hot June day. Only ten bucks for an adult. The employees were wonderfully friendly.

J. McLeod

Want to learn about the Magic City? This is the spot. The exhibits highlights what's old and new about Miami and South Florida. The Streets exhibit upstairs has a lot of info to offer about Street art and Miami culture as of late.

Shawn Mason

My band and i played there Heritage festival there was a great experience the people there are very knowledgeable and its a really cool place to check out

Emilia Mead

Great place to take the whole family.

Luis Ayala

I have visited a lot of museums in South Florida but somehow missed this one. I have wanted to come ever since I paid a visit to the Miami Circle and found out that the artifacts they found in the circle are house here. The first weekend of the month is free for Bank of America account holders so I saved my visit for today. The museum is housed in a complex that also contains the Miami Library. If you are a Miami resident you can check out a pass to visit the museum for free from the library. Parking is available in the cultural arts garage across the street. If you have your parking ticket validated at the museum then parking is only $5 no matter how long you stay. The museum is housed in two buildings. The north side housed the historical items I was most interested in especially the top floor. The first floor offers a display on the development of Miami Beach and it also houses a large research library. The second floor provides an entire history of South Florida from the time of the first people to present day. It starts with the Tequesta and there is a display specifically on the Miami Circle. From there the museum examines the British and Spanish influence on Florida. I especially liked the items relating to the the wreck of the Atocha. Further rooms offer displays on the Seminoles and the Seminole Wars. From there Henry Flagler brings the railroad to Florida and along with it the first tourists. We move into the Art Deco Age, the Great Depression, World War I and II, and the Cold War era. You literally move in a circle through the entire history of Florida with a concentration on Miami history. The south building houses items related to things currently happening in Miami. The second floor also has room for traveling exhibits. On my visit the exhibit was called Miami Rocks and was composed of videos and photos of the Miami Pop Festival held held in May 1968. Some of the artists features were Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. The exhibit is ongoing until September 30th. They even gave us a poster related to the exhibit at the front desk. If you are interested in history at all this museum is a must see. I really took the time to read the signs. For instance I did not know that by the time the US government got done forcing the Seminoles out of Florida into Oklahoma there were only 40 of them left. They fled into the Everglades where the government was unable to reach them. A very sad chapter of Florida history. This museum is not flashy or interactive but there are great stories and photographs here documenting important historical events. I enjoyed my visit immensely.

Elizabeth De Armas Medina

The museum has really interesting history about Miami. The pictures we saw there transports us to that century. The tour guides should focused more of the history of every object or artifact, at least make a brief explanation of what we are seeing there, after all this is like a journey where work is to navigate you trough there. I didn't feel that connection, in fact, I felt distant and really bored, I wanted to get out as soon as possible. Even though they have really good history there, they emphasize too much on the immigrants story, they should improved the way to interact with the visitors and how they connect with them. It was an amazing experience.

amy kellison

Delightful selection of artifacts and photos. Easy to navigate the exhibits. It can be rather chilly inside, so if you are like me and get cold easily bring a lightweight jacket. There is a parking garage a block away.

Malgorzata Kucharuk

Great place to teach the kids about history of Miami. I recommend 2nd Saturdays with family activities and free museum access...

George Plucienkowski

Great venue of displays spread through out a few buildings. Many interesting artifacts and photos of Miami history. Art work of various kinds, sculptures, photos, etc., showing the growth, cultural mixed and uniqueness is exhibited. Staff is very supportive, friendly and helpful. A good place to visit snd learn about the evolution of Miami.

Britney Willams

From the art to history this museum tells the story Florida well. As a Floridan I felt they did an excellent job on the museum.

Maddy Mccomb

The History Miami museum does what it says on the tin, it tells the story of Miami and Florida from thousands of years ago to modern times. The ancient history is both surprising and fascinating. The story covers the native Indian population and what happened to them, and the Spanish with many exhibits from the wreck of La Nuestra Senora de Atocha, the famous treasure shipwreck. Overall a well presented and interesting display.

Jadin Ruben

Overpriced for a museum that lacks excitement and curiosity. It's all about the Miami Dade area so don't go if your a visitor looking for something like US history

Greg Perry

The tour was outstanding, Dr. Paul George is a great ambassador for the City of Miami.

Cintia Sosa Cawen

Mi experience at Miami History Museum was really constructive because i learn a lot about history about Cuba and Haiti and how similar their cultures are. Thanks so much to the guide tours we had one of them was Cinthia .

Yolanda Hernandez Santa Cruz

Very cool museum for kids!

Victoria Rudman

Great space. Beautiful courtyard. Wonderful tour.

Kimberly Lopez

Great place to learn about Miami's history & experience different exhibits.

Craig Sharp

Great place for Miami history

Yisel Martinez

The inside of the Museum is really amazing. Pictures and old things inside the Museum is the plus in the place . Now, the parking it sucks . Not recommended at all. The guide tour spoke to fast . Sometimes, I can even understand what he was saying. However , the place is really nice .

Günther Honigs

Learn about Miami's history. Two buildings.

Stephanie Hill

Lots of floor space. ...might need a flush of $ to fill it. The traveling exibits needs to expand

Nancy Lauchaire

I always enjoy visiting HistoryMiami! The photography exhibit was great! Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. I go with friends and family several times a year.

Delmore Forge

HEY! Ive been there with my family was great. the staff members are super kind .

Belkys Carrillo

Great time visiting this place again.

Lynn Cuervo

I contracted with History Miami as our venue for a judicial reception. I am totally happy with the space and assistance of the special events staff. They provide tables and linens along with the space which really helps a lot. Thanks Yeseny.

Mitch Honan

Great place for a day trip in downtown Miami. I learned a lot about the history of this unique city. They have an extensive collection of cool artifacts and they pretty much use every available inch to make an exhibit

Patrick Hershberger

Detailed, beautifully crafted exhibits.

Cristian Parra

Nice place to visit. A little small but very interesting, specially the history about how Miami was populated along the time and the fights for domain of the lands and isles by different crowns Spain, Protugal, Great Britain, France... among others. The facilities well conditioned.

Nikki Lenoir

Beautiful museum with amazing exhibits, but told almost completely from the european colonizers narrative (the word "Indians" was everywhere) and with only 2 poster sized "exhibits" on all of Miami's African American history. Those 2 aspects made it difficult to concentrate on all the awesomeness the museum had to offer, it was distracting. But beautiful and fun!

A Rod

Loved it, found it very interesting and the people there were real sweet: from the front desk to the girls roaming around they were all great. The parking garage is a bit difficult to get to if you're not familiar with the area and I didn't see any security (I went on a Sunday) or cameras in the garage which did not make me feel my car or my family was safe. Also if you don't get your parking ticket validated parking prices are through the roof! Love the museum hate the parking. Highly recommend History Miami Museum any day.

Elisabeth Weinpel

Great experience. Nice way to spend 2 or 2 1/2 hours exploring Miami's history. Park in designated park garage and take the overpass to the garage. Get parking ticket validated for free 2 hours of parking. Museum guides were very informed and helpful.

Ms YN

Beautiful well kept Archives, pictures, memoriabilia . Nice place to spend the day .

Yijun Feng

It showed us a lot stories about how Cubans and Haitians come and live in Miami. It was good to know that.

Dennis Cuadrado

MIAMI STREET PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL AWESOME!!!

wschalks

If you want to know about the history of Florida and soecislly Miami, this is the place

Liliam Jimenez

I really loved the visit at the History Miami Museum. I've learned a lot of things that i didn't know about Miami immigration. The only negative comment is about one of the guide, sometimes I couldn't hear and understand him since he was speaking very low. But overall I've liked everything and it's a great expirience.

Horacio Sierra

A fantastic overview of Miami’s indigenous, Spanish, British, and hyphenated American roots (Cuban, Haitian, Anglo, African, etc). It’s divided into two parts - the traditional exhibition that has been around at least since the 1990s and a new, sleeker space with unique artifacts such as Walter Mercado’s cape, a balsero raft, and vintage sports team memorabilia as well as interactive elements for children. This a must-see museum for native and new Miamians alike!

Toy Jimenez

I'm loving the Jimi Hendrix exhibit... can't wait to go back

Manuel Romero

Amazing museum full of exciting and intriguing facts about Miami's history and connection to the rest of the world. It's free the second Saturday of the month.

Ariadne Barcelo

Wrnt here in high school for a field trip it was really nice and real big .

Francie Novo

As a Florida native I enjoyed the visit to the museum. Loved exploring the history of South Florida...friendly welcome and staff.

Juanish Mk

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I just love museums and this gotta be my favorite.

Steph

I’m so disappointed that this museum was a one star because I am born and raised from Miami .. Thank god it was free when I went ! If you’re reading this , please don’t go and waste gas or time. You’ll literally walk in and be there for no longer than 10 min. A good museum you’re in there for a good two hours or more. Miami needs to step it up!

Richard Larsen

Excellent history of Miami. Bldg 1 was great. Bldg 2....not

Jonathan A. Soberon

A real hidden gem of Miami that can be forgotten especially with the new art and science museums. The downstairs is really neat but it is really the upstairs exhibits that shine. They change in and out and are usually Miami centered. They also host the annual map fair upstairs which is a real neat event. Worth the trip if you like history and are in the area.

Alexander Hughes

I highly recommend that you go to this museum if you live in Miami and are not familiar with the history. You will learn a lot about the city and you will come out feeling a stronger bond with Miami.

Y.

Good exhibits showcasing Miami's various cultural transitions thru the years

Gabrielle Conea

The event was very nice but to close access to the parking garage from the museum area/level, before the event ended was very irresponsible and dangerous to out of towners not familiar where a south or a north entrance may be at 10PM.....at a Basel listed event.

Kristoffer Nesbak

Pretty good museum. Shady neighborhood.

Lourdes Martinez

Had a great time with the family. Really interesting history of Miami's past. Would recommend a visit to everyone , really learned a lot.

Amarilys Rolon

The HistoryMiami Museum at first it really surprised me, there were so many photographs that have a history behind them. Each and every picture that was on the walls had an interesting event that had happened in Miami. I saw so many antique artifacts, and objects and I wonder what the history was behind but I didn’t get those questions answered because the two tour guides focused too much on the history of immigrants. Notwithstanding the tour guides hard work and performance but I started to feel far away from there, distant at some point that I was making a huge effort on paying attention. I am not saying that I dislike knowing this information, on the contrary, it is interesting but I wanted to hear something new.

Rosangela Baro Diaz

I visited History Miami Museum with my classmates from my English class and I felt so welcome and so part of the History inside of that place, because I'm Cuba and they talked about immigration, which it is basically a big chapter of the history of Miami. I didn't like the moment when the intern girls supposed to help with the presentation. They were just talking in the corner, while the guides were speaking; nonetheless, the guides were amazing and knowledge about what they were talking about. I really enjoyed it.

Elvis Santana

Excellent location, great collection of artifacts and historical archives. The space is well maintained and very clean. Well worth the price of admission!

Tony Perez-Pinon

Really nice place to visit with the family and spent an afternoon learning about Miami's History. I like this museum! Theirs is something about this and the older Museum's like this one and the old Miami Planetarium that I enjoy. (Miami Planetarium is now closed due to the Frost.) The new one's are nice but they lack the warm relaxed feeling you enjoy while walking around learning something. The more modern ones they are way to stressed and commercial.

Mario Kike Barrios Reverol

It's surreal....FANTASTIC

Tony Lara

Cool place, I saw the 1968 Pop Festival exhibit featuring Jimi Hendrix.

Curt'Terria Robertson

It was very insightful. It had a lot of the LGBTQA facts on their life in Miami and how Miami has become the Miami we know today.

Arielly Mendez

It is in a good location, it is interactive and very colorful, fun for the children, the staff members treat you well, the entrance fee is affordable.

Abel Fernandez

This is a beautiful museum, a Miami gem. Everyone, locals and tourists should visit this place. Great for families with kids, but also amazing for people interested in art and Miami's unique history.

Amazing relics from the Native Americans to first settlers to Colortown then the drug runners & immigrants all the way to today. Every item reflects our Miami!

One of the best museums in Miami. They have an amazing collection from prehistoric South Florida to present day. The exhibits are fun and interesting for both children and adults. Admission prices are much more affordable than other museums in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Don't miss out the opportunity to visit this museum. I really enjoyed be in touch with the history in Miami and also learn pretty much where those people came from. The staff are amazing and they know everything in this place.

Kristine K

Well displayed timeline and history of Miami with great artifacts, photos, and local stuff in the main bldg. Second bldg with traveling displays was good, but plan to spend most of your time in main bldg. Well worth driving downtown to the must, allow a few hours minimum. Staff is super friendly and helpful too.

Microfile Internet Marketing

The HistoryMiami Museum is something not to miss if you want to know how South Florida came to be. The North building is a treat with history dating back to the native Tequesta Indians thru the land development of Coral Gables up to Hurricane Andrew and it’s devastation. The downstairs at the time I visited had a great photo display of the Jewish community living on South Beach during the time of the 1970’s, 1980’s and early 1990’s. The South building on the first floor was setup to show items from the mix of cultures here in South Florida. Not all items were of historic relevance, but they we’re culturally significant. There is a parking garage which was only $5 for those visiting the museum.

Anthony on the Trail

Learned a lot of history and culture of Miami

Veelow mUy mAlo

Can't wait to go back

Kevin Harris

rave

So many interesting displays teaching about history and Miami subcultures

zanzabar Koblensky

a very fascinating and educational experience. The HistoryMiami Museum is a wonderful, informative, and educational experience that people of all ages can really enjoy. I'm a child at heart, so the hurricane Andrew exhibit really captured me. The hurricane simulation room is a rather exciting and educational addition to the museum, and the knowledge of the scale of destruction caused by this storm will leave you speechless. Along with this, there are many other works of fine art and displays that will engage your mind and fuel your imagination.

Lynx Chosen

Very educational
