This past Thursday evening, I visited the marvelous Coral Gables Museum in order to attend the opening of its most recent photography exhibit, The Art of Compassion. This incredibly meaningful and human project celebrates women who have traditionally lived in the shadows - formerly incarcerated women who are re-entering society. Curated by photographer and producer Starr Sariego, these powerful photographs provide insight in to the lives of formerly incarcerated women, more than 80% of whom were victims of childhood trauma. I highly recommend seeing this important exhibit and applaud Coral Gables Museum for showcasing it. I wish I had seen several other exhibits that this fine, visionary museum has offered in the past. Next door to Book & Books, a favorite spot for most everyone in Miami, Coral Gables Museum is located in the heart of the City Beautiful on Aragon Avenue. It is a historically designated architectural gem featuring the typical Mediterranean Revival of downtown Coral Gables but with elements of Depression Moderne as well. Coral rock in construction, it served as a police and fire station in the past hence the sculptures depicting Coral Gables firemen on its exterior in addition to decorative artwork. I didn't explore the entire museum complex during this visit, so I plan to return and take a proper guided tour and participate in its downtown walking tours. Lauded for its culturally relevant exhibits and celebration of the civic arts, Coral Gables Museum is a must-see. I've been to its delightful gift shop several times to purchase one-of-a-kind cards and several other eclectic gift items. It's the ideal spot to shop if you need to pick up something for the person who has everything. There's ample parking with a garage across the street as well as metered street parking. If you are as guilty as I am for not visiting this grand museum sooner, head over there today and enjoy a splendid afternoon!
There's history there that you can take a look at and it inexpensive view the pictures to get an idea .
Fascinating to learn the history of Coral Gables and how it was basically one man's vision. History exhibit was engaging and well executed. They all had a superb exhibit of photographs and ephemera about Lincoln Memorial Park, the final resting place of many of Miami's black pioneer families.
Very beautiful and informative !
Cute and small local museum. It shows the history of the making of Coral Gables.
Fabulous. Excellent. Place.
We bought a Groupon for this museum for something like $7 for two people, but it turns out that we didn't need it because admission was free during our visit in July. The special exhibit was being changed, so there wasn't too much of the museum to see. Hubby and I enjoy the Coral Gables area, so it made for a nice day out to come here, see the umbrella exhibit a few streets over and have lunch. The museum itself is in a beautiful building, the architecture in this area is quite lovely. It was nice to learn more about this area and the first settlers in the first exhibit that we walked through. There is quite a bit of info on the Merrick family that helped establish this area. The museum itself is located in the old police and fire station, this building was constructed as part of FDR's the new deal. We wish we had been able to see a larger section of the museum, but we still enjoyed our trip here. I'd plan on spending 45-75 minutes here as it's not a huge spot.
. awesome!
Super fun and clean
An amazing little museum of Coral Gables right in the heart of the city. This is a great choice of a historic museum to visit if you're in Miami. It gives you an indepth look at how our city once looked before man started expanding westward and the populations began to rapidly increase. You will learn about the founder of Coral Gables, George Merrick who went nearly broke to create and build one of America's most wealthiest cities in the nation. The whole museum should take anywhere between 2-3 hours. It isn't so big, but there is a lot to see in the amount of space they have. So take your time and I hope you get to get an idea of what Miami once started out as. FYI: The building the houses the Coral Gables Museum was a WPA project during the Great Depression that once served as the home of the police and fire departments from 1939 through 1975. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A surprisingly very unique museum. Came here for the Miami New Times Artopia event, which was pretty cool. The museum itself was definitely a surprise as it not only focused on the history of Coral Gables, but also had a very in-depth history of Miami as well, which was a nice surprise. They also have a VERY cool sea-level display that will blow your mind and visually show how much of an issue this will pose for our city if things don't change soon. Definitely take the time to make a stop here.
You must go
very interesting place to visit
The only museum dedicated to the civic arts in S. Florida! Exhibits change a few times a year. Currently they are exhibiting Cuban art from Colonial to Contemporary. Along with Cuban architecture in Cuba and around the world. Monthly live Jazz, events are always free or reduced for members of the museum. As a member I feel that I am doing my part to help educate and enlighten residents and visitors alike.
Loud and very annoying to neighbors.
Great location, lots to see and do.
This is a very interesting museum, mostly about the history of Coral Gables, promoting historic and environmental preservation. It is housed in a fabulously restored police and fire station. The building is beautiful inside and out. The building is huge and can be rented for events.
(Translated by Google) It's interesting, though a bit small, but the most important thing is the story, what's there reflected (Original) Es interesante aunque un poco pequeño pero lo más importante es la historia qué hay ahí reflejada
Small and quaint with good local history.
Small, wee designed community museum with interesting exhibit re local history as well as special art exhibits.

Love this place. Have to go back.
Cute little museum. Well kept and in a good location.
Small but informative. Heavy on history..
Didn't find anything appealing
Seeing my photograph up on the wall.

Small museum but with a lot of coral gable history
I love this place
A little of everything
There's not much to see there. Some beautiful pictures. I took my granddaughter. I got free tickets to go there. My granddaughter didn't like it at all. The Dade County Library gives free tickets to go there. Its a very small Museum in total it has four rooms to look at. 1 room just has a telephone that you can pick up and listen to a lady speaking about her husband trying to take her kids away from her. A domestic violence conversation.I personally would not pay to go there. There is no parking at the Museum. There is only meter parking. A block away from the Museum.
It's a smaller Museum but fairly nice. We enjoyed see artworks from local artists and the history of Miami and Coral Gables.
I liked the exhibit they were featuring that night. A piece of Miami's history! Admission is sponsored and free the 1st Friday of the month, however the regular cost is reasonable. Parking in the area is crazy because it's busy, but it's not pricey. I liked the feel of it, something the whole family can enjoy if you like art and history.
Very quiet place. If you want to know about the history of the city you should definitely go. They also have other exhibits (they change it seasonally).
Beautifully displayed art museum with an excellent variety of works and rotating exhibitions. They also holds a number of events throughout the year.
fantástico TODO en un mismo lugar.
I went to and art exhibition there and the atmosphere was lovely with musicians included.
Pretty good venue, lots of events
(Translated by Google) It's a very small place, but nice (Original) Es un lugar muy pequeño, pero agradable
Very poor collection, this is NOT a museum is more like a personal collection, if you want to make you own collection you can find better stuff in E-BAY or Amazon. Don't waste your money for nothing.
Great place
Great museum in a great city!
Nice!

Aging Well Miami Herald
Excellent museum with a very nice staff.
No much to see.
very nice place
This place is a very nice museum has a lot of Modern Art but if you are planning to go to the summer camp my son says it is very bad. It is cool that it is built out of an old firefighter station and if when you're done with it you can go to movie theater nearby.
7 of 10
Thanks for the wonderful tour. Loves it
Awesome!
A great community facility.
Name is the recipe, and some galleries with art exhibits, tells history of coral gables, can be covered in an hour.
A gem for the local cultural scene
Very cool, community-related exhibits. On the first Friday of every month there is free entrance
Nice way to spend an hour or two, go, discover the history of Coral Gables.
cute museum about history of coral gables and Mr. Merrick. very often different art exhibitions, so at the end you can see history and current art together.
Small museum but very neat collection. The medical exhibit is interesting as is the Coral Gables interactive storyboard. 30 minutes to an hour is all you need to see everything in this small museum.
A beautiful Museum, well maintained, clean, organized and the worker are very friendly. Most of the area is clean, educational spot, kid freindly, and they had enough parking lot. I love the place, sentimental, and I learn a little bit about history. Great spot, accessible location, and with a nice, clean bathroom.
Nice place to share with friends
Fantastic place to spend rainy Saturday afternoon.
Great place to visit
Nice indoor area. Small but nice.
Museum tells great story! Well organized with awesome information
Awesome exhibits! Very interesting!

Interesting and fits its purpose: a Coral Gables museum.

A small museum with interesting local history. Nice, but not in any way remarkable.
Experience and good Adventure
I was in a class and nice people
Please save yourself from this awful scam! when i walked thru the entrance, there were about 6 different doors leading to galleries. One of these so called "galleries" included amateur watercolor paintings which lined the hallway to the BATHROOMS ! Upon entering the first "gallery" I saw what I believed was a museum exhibit, upon further inspection there was a series of little black&white photos and bottles of "Miracle Oil " which was allegedly sold in the 1800s! This however is sadly untrue, as the SOBs running the museum are still selling snake oil to the public under the guise of "Museum Memberships" ! I didn't realized until now, that I lived in the vicinity of the worlds most elaborate and poorly executed scam! if i owned a cartel and desperately needed to launder cash, I'd open an exhibit with the exact same business model! Please save yourself a slow death from boredom, and never visit unless you need a lifetime supply of local magazines and brochures! This is very likely the most over-hyped welcome center in the country
A place full of knowledge
Very informative and interesting
They always have something interesting to see!
Great museum !!!!!! Really fun !!
First Friday of the month is free. Had a great time
Well kept

Beautiful location!
Went for a salon and the performance was wonderful. They did several pieces from Chopin, Bellini and Mozart.... nothing better
Great
Place to have pace and learn about the history of Coral Gables.
My son loves camp here!
Nice experience small but worth it

Small museum, but it's got a great exhibit on history of Coral Gables and the Greater Miami area. They're also doing their part to save forgotten Miami history, such as the Lincoln Cemetery in Brownsville. Great place to visit and support.
Beautiful building in a historic location. I was there for private event and did not enter the museum itself.
Parking costs what you get paid working part time minimum wage.
Beautifully designed and thoughtfully curated local museum. Includes exhibits on historic Coral Gables as well as humanitarian issues pertinent to today. We visited for free on Gallery Night (first Friday) to see a pop-up exhibit on Autism Awareness. While there, we also saw an amazing temporary exhibit on innovative temporary shelters used for disaster recovery.
This building was completely renovated recently and is very nice with a large courtyard. Events are frequently hosted here. It is located right in the heart of downtown Coral Gables. There is parking to be had on the side streets and in the municipal parking garage. There are numerous restaurants and bars in very close vicinity.
Nice and clean location,
Very Interesting
Got lucky and came here on family day. They also had a show going on too. The museum itself was pretty interesting. Learnt a lot about how the area was formed.
Came for the monthly bike ride. Stayed to view the exhibits. It was great.
Excelente lugar para conocer un poco de historia local, curiosidades y disfrutar de una presentación de arte.
Hyvin pieni näyttely, hinta-laatusuhde erittäin huono
