REVIEWS OF Nemours Estate IN Delaware

Ivonne R

Marvelous mansion!! Full of history and well kept furniture and art. Great place to share time with the family and learn about the place, the time and how the lived. I guess we were lucky since we only paid $1.50 to get in, some days you might pay up to $18 per adult.

Renate Davis

Absolutely beautiful place to visit! Grounds and mansion are spectacular! Enjoyed learning the history also! The staff were kind, accommodating, helpful and very knowledgeable. They truly made this a wonderful experience❤️ Definitely will be returning for another visit!

Amanda Perez

Well worth the trip to see this!! There is so much to see but they make it easy by providing shuttles to and fro throughout the estate. Even my husband who doesn't usually love historical sites and things of this nature was able to find beauty and fascination throughout the grounds and mansion. We will definitely be back when it is cooler!!

Arif Wadood

This was absolutely one of the most unique places to visit in Delaware. The staff is very friendly, from the front desk, shuttle service, and the guides within the mansion. Everyone was very welcoming and informative. For the rest of the experience, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Highly recommended!!

Timothy Russell

Well decorated for Christmas. It's a great place to tour!

Katshot

We have visited all the Dupont properties in the area but never got to Nemours due to the need to make reservations for a tour. Luckily, they no longer require reservations and we are now happy to say we've visited ALL the Dupont properties! Nemours is a great way to spend an afternoon. Everything is so well done from the visitor center to the grounds to the mansion. And the guides and shuttle drivers are so informative and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Carla Nealy

Beautiful. The first man's cave.

N Gager

Beautiful estate and interesting history and interiors. The gardens are peaceful and immense. Take the jitney ride to see the whole acreage.

Kimura Grip

Awesome place to take the family.

Phyllis Wolf

Very nice house and gardens.

Patricia Cellini

This historic estate was quite beautiful and beautifully decorated for the upcoming holiday season. The biggest concern I have is with regard to the policy regarding strollers inside the estate. While they are prohibited, wheelchairs are not and the estate accommodates them with elevators to all floors. The bigger concern was that the person in the visitors center who took the admissions fee from the mother with a toddler in a stroller said absolutely NOTHING about this policy. This policy seems discriminatory to me. A toddler in a stroller is far less dangerous to priceless heirlooms than a toddler who might wriggle out of his mother's arms as she tires from carrying him.

R G

Amazing! We loved it, so much History. I felt like I was time traveling. The guides were very informative. Definitely plan a visit

Colleen Freeman

Beautiful. Well organized tours

Kathy Tyrrell

Nemours Mansion and Gardens are breathtakingly beautiful. We can't wait to visit this gorgeous place again! These photos are from Christmas.

Jasmine Rosario

I might have overdone it with the pictures, but this was one of the most beautiful places I have walked through! The first time I heard about the Duponts were during the tour at the Nemours Estate. Make this a day trip and plan to spend hours here! Make it a point to walk through every area on the map; this is such a gorgeous walk and it was an amazing date with my hubby. I will never forget how magical it was!

Dave Masone

It has so much history behind it and all of the Gardens are so pretty

Go! The grounds are gorgeous, the docents are so friendly and knowledgeable, and the house is so beautiful. I'd go regularly if I lived in the area!

Kelly Braun

Loved visiting this old estate! Gorgeous formal French gardens. The house itself was fascinating. We chose not to do a guided tour, but there were plenty of people around that were happy to share stories about the different rooms. Looking forward to visiting again in the future!

Debbi DeWeese

We enjoyed a truly fabulous visit to the estate. Kudos to an incredible staff who clearly has the deepest love and respect for the family and the estate. Each and every question we had was answered with grace, passion, and much knowledge. I would suggest placing the estate high on the "must visit" list!

Lovely mansion and gardens! Very pastorale! Self guided tour. The Welcome Center and movie are very educational. Must see!

Rebecca D

This place is worth the money that is charged at the door. I can honestly say that at first i was a bit miffed when i was told there are no tours. then upon arriving in the lobby of Nemours i was pleasantly surprised to hear there was a tour, but only of the basement. I jumped at it and was not dissapointed. The docent was knowledgeable and genuinely into it. She then offered an off the cuff game room tour which was totally cool. Then to my greatest pleasure as i went from room to room there was a person from the foundation there. it was incredible because ALL of them were knowledgeable! It was like having a tour guide per room. the People were so helpful and attentive I would definitely recommend anyone to come out and see it!

Cris Martin

Excellent Estate! The rooms are gorgeous. The history about the DuPont family and how they lived, impressive. The grounds/gardens are beautiful. Many pictures were taken. The fountains are breath taking. Two thumbs up!

Lawrence Pavese Jr.

This very special man Albert I Dupont...was a polymath of the highest order...his extraordinary planning of the construction of Nemours left no stone unturned. Advanced plumbing and electrical techniques was years ahead of its time. Don't miss this basement sports rooms which includes a couple of bowling lanes and billiard room. What a place to live, play and relax...well worth the trip back in time !!

jan achenbach

Beautiful and educational. Be sure to take the guided tour and ask docents for inside info on each room. The garage should not be missed to see vintage cars. There is a convenient shuttle to all areas. Fun treasure hunt for the kids to engage them.

Sheri Mueller

Beautiful grounds, make sure to take a tour through the property, it was very informative! Walk the beautiful grounds or take the bus to see them, but it is definitely worth a visit!

Jeffrey M Rewis

Very interesting historic site. A definite must for any history buffs in the area!

Josue Acaron

Jade Sawyer

Beautiful property with lots of history. Even after you leave, the elegance and deep meaning and history stays with you. Enjoyed talking to the very friendly staff. For those with small kids, no strollers allowed (they have stroller parking). To all, no bags allowed (you can put it on your front if you bring one). Plan ahead!

Chris O'Donnell

Great history and extraordinary gardens. Very well maintained and the tour was excellent. Make sure to see the auto collection.

Steven Kristoph

beautiful historic Dupont estate

Esmeralda Guca

Brandon Hogan

Beautiful place with a variety of things to see

Jan Boykin

Very detailed tour. Excellent tour guide. Beautiful home.

Maureen Heck

Beautiful grounds. Self paced tour with lots to see. Plenty of knowledgeable people around to answer questions. They have guided tours certain times of the day. Worth the trip.

Corvette Solution

Amazing place put it on your bucket list of places to see

Agustin Valles

Awesome place, a beautiful architecture. Had the luck to be there during a special reenactment event.

Jacob Smith

This place is amazing! Take a few hours to walk and explore the property. I just wish the admission be slightly cheaper up until the fountain reconstruction would be completed. Shuttle is provided so you can travel the property by shuttle or walking but must get on a shuttle from visitor center to enter and when you leave you will need to shuttle out of property to visitor center. (No walking path to visitor center) Also try to go early because they close at 5pm. Def worth visiting!!!

Mark Savitt

Nice place

Lita Orner

Worth the trip. Amazing mansion and gardens.

Sisters forever Yo

Beautiful property with a great story. Staff was very nice and helpful. Just a lovely place to spend the day.

mary christensen

If u haven't been there you need to go. Loved the cave man floor.

Keith Roussel

This is an enjoyable place to spend several hours. It wasn't very crowded so I had space and time to contemplate what it would been like to live in this 100 year-old home. I love how the rooms are preserved with the furniture and belongings of the family. The library is filled with actual books. Throughout the home there are guides who are eager to tell you about the room and the family. I have never heard of the duPont family before my visit, or if I had, it didn't stick in my memory. As a mechanical engineering student I was intrigued by the mechanical innovations that were incorporated throughout the home. The grounds outside of the house were nice, and the garage contained some old cars that enthusiast may find delightful. Oh, and don't forget to visit the basement.

Jon A

Very impressive in all respects. The house, the gardens and the friendly staff all contribute to a terrific experience; far better than I expected. There are shuttle buses that take you around the grounds (or just walk on your own), a nice visitor center (not over done) and a clearly dedicated staff. Don't miss the classic cars in the garage!

Christin Hensley

Took my daughters (almost 8 and almost 3) here on a weekday, coming from the children's hospital. The woman at the desk comped our tickets because "you already give us so much money". What a pleasant surprise! We did a self guided tour of the mansion, my older daughter had a blast with the scavenger hunt they have for children there. The volunteers in every room were all so sweet and accommodating, seeing as I had one very interested child and one toddler who was more interested in touching things and playing on the stairs... A few of the guides took my older daughter off to help her find things in her scavenger hunt page while I kept an eye on the younger one. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. Totally child friendly and great for aimless wandering and discovery. What a beautiful gem hidden in an unlikely part of Wilmington.

Aaron A. Wallace

A well kept gilded age mansion built in 18 months started in 1909. Three floors, featuring very knowledgeable docents in all of the rooms, ready to answer all the questions you might have. The art collection has some real treasures. On good days the grounds are a dream to walk in. The yearly pass is an incredible deal for locals.

Deb Cusic

Splendid preamble through a testimony to early American enterprise. Elegance and refined, the estate is a jewel of art and history. Our guide was charming and informative. The magic of light through windows enchants. The bus ride in helps. But walk the gardens to the Temple of Love. The fountains and gold statue being renovated and I must return to experience its glory.

Kevin Campbell

Beautiful history for the tristate area. Lots of information and great space for a romantic walk.

Gary Griffith

Really enjoyed our visit here. The staff is super informative without being clingy. The house is just beautiful without being highly staged. Don't miss the chauffer garage with the antique cars. The grounds are a delight.

Gary Blakely

Enjoyed this more than Winterthur, partly due to its more lived-in presentation, and partly because of feeling more sympathetic to Alfred and his philanthropy.

T Le

This was a very enjoyable and informative attraction. It was well worth spending at least 4 hours learning about Alfred E Dupont's life and wandering through the beautiful estate. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive. Signing up for the guided tour inside the mansion really added depth and enjoyment to our visit. The visitor center is very organized and buses that take you to the estate are comfortable and operate frequently. Come early to avoid crowds on a sunny weekend! Also would recommend make time for the Hagley Museum, another even larger attraction that's just a 4 minute-drive down the road from this estate.

Thomas Fleetwood

I really enjoyed walking around the house and gardens. This place feels less pretentious than many other similar places. As you walk through the house you can get very close to the items and there are many helpers to answer your questions. It is a good deal as part of the Brandywine Valley Passport.

Mike Smith

Every person we encountered, including our tour guide Andrew, was very knowledgeable regarding the Du Pont estate.

Sylvester Hardwick

We loved our visit to Nemours! Although it is a self guided tour, there were hosts in most of the rooms that are happy to share their knowledge. Loved learning more about the DuPont family history. I took advantage of one of the 'special' garden tours that walked around the house. We also took a short tour ride in an open bus that toured the large grounds.

Tony Venne

The Versailles of Delaware. Incredibly well maintained grounds and house the Nemours Estate is worth the visit. Make sure and watch the introductory video if you don’t know what you’re in for. One fall back mentioned in other reviews is that you have to leave the grounds using the provided shuttle bus, but there are so many circulating around this seems barely worth mentioning.

David Bachman

We had a great time. The rooms are open so you can walk around and see everything up close. Not roped off like other historical sites.

Brad Piatt

Very nice wish tours were guided

John Romeo

Worth the price of admission

Francisco Alsina

Unbelievable

Henry Beckwith

Truly a superb house and grounds. A quality experience on a par with San Simon and the Biltmore.

Alyson Norris

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Especially during the Christmas season. The people who work there are very nice, professional, and always willing to help. They are also handicap friendly.

james skelly

One of the most beautifully maintained properties I've ever seen. We'll worth the trip.

Wear BU

Nice and fancy palace

Krista McGrath

Beautiful!!! The house and gardens have been lovingly preserved, and the history is interesting as well. Having the choice to roam around on your own, or touring with a guide is nice as well.

Brian

Be sure to visit the weeping beech tree near the pond. This is a beautiful place

Sheryl Baan

Worth to visit. I wish they sell some souvenier like magnets and etc.

Numm S

Amazing. Barely anyone was there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Extremely well kept place. Friendly and informative staff. No food or drink for sell so plan on bringing your own food. Drinking water fountains are available in the main office and in front of the Mansion. Really worth a visit. Had a great time.

Darlene Riley

this is a very nice mansion to visit. This is my second trip there, once in the spring and now close to Christmas. The Mansion was decorated with all types of Christmas trees and various other Christmas decorations. It was worth the money to see this.

Francis Ehrgood

Fantastic historical mansion. All personnel were friendly and knowledgeable.

Frank Harney

Really cool tour. So much treasure there - worth the trip! Very interesting.

Matt Kacar

Spent Saturday afternoon at the Dupont Mansion in Wilmington. We have been to some amazing homes in our travels, but this was the most extravagant. Beautiful. Each room was unique and stunning. The staff made the day even better. They were all so friendly and willing to share their knowledge with us. You can tell that they are proud of the house and Mr. Dupont. I can't wait to come back to see their Christmas display. Thanks to all at the Nemours Estate for a wonderful day!!!!

Jean Roeth

Beautiful grounds and the house itself is magnificent. If you haven't gone, you should really go. But pick a day with nice weather, so you can walk the grounds...they really are quite wonderful!

Jock McClees

Could be a Newport mansion or a European chateau. The grounds are really spectacular and could almost rival Versailles. The garage has Rolls Royces and other unique cars. The size and opulence of the rooms in the mansion is amazing. You could fit a small house in some of them

Neil Lentz

Wonderful. Third time I have been there. Each time I find more that I missed. You won't be disappointed.

Zak Pindell

I arrived on Sunday afternoon to try and visit. The parking lot only holds like 30 cars and there were no signs or anything telling us if there was somewhere else we could park. So I drove an hour and a half to find out I couldn't visit.

Ashley Bittner

Loved it

Frank Slattery

Wow, great place and well maintained. Great guides.

Melissa Williams

Gorgeous property! The grounds, gardens and house are breath taking. They also did a fantastic job on the history and informative displays that you walk through in the visitor's center. It gives a nice overview of the life of the DuPonts and the history of the estate. The house is so technologically ahead of its time. They had grand rooms, furnishings, electricity and indoor plumbing. There is even a billiards room, bowling alley and office in the basement. There is an elevator in the house so if you are in a wheelchair you can access the different floors. The gardens, landscaping, iron gates, reflecting pools and statues are magnificent. You can stroll at your leisure, fly a kite, have a picnic, read a book by the reflecting pools or waltz through the gardens. You can take a guided tour through the home or wander about at tour leisure. There are always people around to help guide you or answer questions if you don't want to take a formal tour. I would say that anyone who visits Wilmington should make it a point to visit this estate. The staff was very friendly and always eager to help. It was my favorite of all the Dupont estates.

VictoriA Caulk

My husband and I only got as far as the gate. Was told need to pay for tour bus ride. Was told a gated community . He wasnt very friendly didnt let us KNOW how much it would cost to take the bus only tour. We thought u could just walk down. That would have been nice to KNOW. Maybe we would've taken tour and paid. Per reviews its beautiful and informative. But he wasn't helpful at all. We walked off not knowing. Maybe next time

Viktoriia Pylypchuk

Gorgeous place. Nicest people. Worthy place to visit. For entrance fee you would be able to walk and ride tours around the mansion for as much time as you need before they close of course. Guides are very knowledgable and patient with all tourists. From them i have learned a lot of historical moments and interesting facts about Nemours Estate, Dupont family, state of Maryland. Also besides self guided tours are provided tours on the buses around the property. Fountains are fabulous. Exterior and Interior of mansion is gorgeous and extremely elegant. Garage collection and basement game rooms are huge gems in this property. I do recommend!

Christy Pancoast

Not really hospitable for children with strollers. But the garden is breathtaking. If you have a stroller you can't go into the mansion.

Bill Perrotta

Excellent. Must see Man Cave and car Collection.

Austin Mount-Campbell

Worth the time to go!

B Grace

The docents were wonderful (especially the one in the mechanical rooms and the one in the dining room). I loved the fun facts and looked for them in every room. And I'm glad they offer a scavenger hunt for children. Every museum should do the same!

Andrew Hamm

Pretty much had the place to myself on a Wednesday! Maybe 10 cars in the lot. I thought it was inexpensive, no more than the price of other estates but has much more to see - sort of a mini Palace of Versailles. The mansion and grounds are impeccably maintained. Easily spend over two hours. Self guided but plenty of knowledgeable staff. No food sold. Photography allowed.

Jing-Shuan Chen

Very cool tour, all the staff were super friendly, excited, and very knowledgeable!!

Kelsey Ann

All the tour guides were so lovely and the estate was beautiful

Andy Hanson

What a magical place. I read online that it takes 2 hours for the self guided tour of the house....I spent 5 and wished I could have had more time!

cindy christopher

Kid friendly for all ages. They dont nickel and dime you like other places do. Very hospitable staffs.

Anna Neubauer

Really beautiful, plus the tour guide were really knowledgeable about all the history! Learned a lot from the tour and got some really nice photos!

Marlene Weisdack

Very informative. An enjoyable relaxing atmosphere.

Slyer E

Bit weird that you have to get on bus to get in and out. They could just close that one area that is missing a gate and no one would be able to get in without paying. Don't know why they left that section open near the entry point. Saw the whole estate, outside and inside (did tour inside only) in around 3 hours. Beautiful.

Todd Foust

Wonderful day trip. Your ticket is good all day, so you can leave for food and come back. Incredible history. Go see it

Ebuka Umunna

Wonderful. A must visit if in Delaware

Cuong Ho

This a beautiful, luxury mansion of French style

Sharon D Long

Staff is friendly and well-informed. The estate is well -designed and laid out. Shuttle was convenient too. Loved the house! Each room was beautifully designed and had it's own "personality". Bowling alley! Amazing!

Eric Horne

The estate and grounds are well-maintained, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Much of your visit will be self-guided, but the docents are usually a few feet away and happy to share their knowledge. The bus tour leaving from the chauffer's garage is highly recommended early during your visit to get an overview of the grounds. The machine room tour provided a different facet into the mind of A.I. DuPont and worth your time. Don't forget to stop and see the brief film in the visitors center before starting your journey!

Jackie Lynch

This is such a fantastic place to visit. It is beautiful.

Jason Cunningham

Absolutely LOVED my visit. I spent about 4 hours there exploring the house and grounds, which were immaculate, and loved every minute. The staff were very friendly, helpful, informed and laidback. Not snooty at all and welcomed questions. The relaxed pace and freedoms to explore really allowed me to soak up the experience. There were also lots of interactive experiences for kids which was great.

Tina Alexandra

There aren't any tour guides but there are really helpful and informed staff members who know EVERYTHING about their areas. It's beautiful.

Ricky Leung

Very beautiful mansion Worth every penny to visit especially your admission fee is also for the support of the children hospital.

Kevin Cameron

Beautiful gardens, such a nice place to spend some time in a peaceful environment with an incredible landscape design. The mansion is working perfectly laid out to visit and consider the history of the home.

Meng Wu

Beautiful mansion and gardens, lots to see. A good place to spend half a day. Come during the warm months to enjoy the gardens too.

lisa jessup

Beautiful period furnishings . Lovely gardens.

Binyamin Stone

The house is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. They try to answer as many questions as possible, which makes the self guided tour a wonderful experience.

JeanAnn

Lovely place to visit!

Barbara Richards

Visited this site as part of a bus tour. Estate was from the DuPont family and very impressive. Mansion is 77 rooms done in French architectural style with beautiful French gardens ; fountains; sculptures. Henry DuPont built this for his second wife who wanted a French home. After he built her a 47,000 square foot home she left him ! Furnishings and gardens are exquisite. Shuttle tour of property is very informative. Definitely worth seeing. Estate is open from May to December. Also need to see Dupont's other estate in the area: Winterthur, which is a 170 room mansion with beautiful gardens.

Anne M.

Lovely place that offers history, architecture, interior design, beautiful gardens - be sure to ask about the free guided house tours.

Julia M Pillsbury

A great tour.

Lisa Shafer

Loved this place!! Even if you don't take the tour, there are people who stand around in certain areas of the house to answer questions!! Neat place to visit. Also, military friendly!! Participates in the Blue Star program!! Free for military and family until Labor Day!!

Grant Gregor

Overwhelmingly beautiful & well kept.

D Nazario

Nemours Estate is quite lovely. On the tour you get to see much of the house and rooms. The grounds are very beautiful. Don't forget to tour the meadows looking for the Wicked Witch. She moves her location each week!

John P Haberle III

The grounds are great and you can walk around or take the bus.

Mohammed abdullElah

Extremely kind staff very nice place it has a lot of emotions you can feel it inside that castle...

Oksana Florescu

We loved this place! Beautiful gardens.

Karen N

Terry is an absolutely legend. Three stars to Terry who works here and so passionately ushers tourists all around the estate. This is inspired by Versailles in France but unfortunately doesn’t live up to anything as close as the grandeur of what you’d find in France. It’s $18 entry and I wouldn’t say it’s worth every dollar - maybe more like $5 for the experience you get here. 77 rooms might feel like a lot to see but not when they close off an entire floor of the house to visitors.

GL handy

Just marvelous Place is just amazing the gardens and house

George K

A wonderful hidden gem! Docents are the best anywhere. Worth a day trip from Philadelphia.

James Wachira

Lovely place with rich history of the Dupont legacy

Kei J

This was the most impressive place in Wilmington I ever visited. Vast gardens are clean and well designed, very spacious. Mansion is vast and full of art. Guides were informative and friendly.

Jacquelyn B

Take the tour!

Nonso Umunna

What's not to like about Nemours Estate? Beautiful mansion and scenic surrounds 300 acres of blissful beauty. The staff are also very friendly. Highly recommended

Matt B

Lots of onsite security, so if kids wander off they probably won't break anything. It is all LOOK and no TOUCH. So, mine did wander off

David Woodhead

An elegant mansion and lavish gardens easily accessible to Wilmington. The guided tour is highly recommended for information about A.I. DuPont and his family and their lifestyle. Some of the.most gorgeous gardens in the U.S.

Chris Classen

Interesting estate and grounds. Fun to see how the other half lived in yesteryear.

Rick Byrne

Beautiful house and grounds. Very interesting with a lot of history.

Glenn Strom

Awesome and must see mention quite amazing for its time.

Dmitry Ostanin

Lots of history and walking. House well maintained but gardens not as much. Good for a half day trips.

Linda Steelman

Gorgeous and fill of history. Tours and all staff were awesome.

Beth S.

Interesting collection and a window into the life of a very wealthy family in the early 20th century.

Jason Ferenchak

Awesome Time @ Benefit Disc Tourney On The Temp Course Throughout The Mansion's Gorgeous Grounds

Jenny Kenney

This place is always beautiful. I've been in the spring to see the beautiful gardens and winter to see the Christmas decoration and love it every time.

Alice Wellems

This is a perfect half day outing. The beautiful house is peppered with very friendly and knowledgeable guides, ready to give detailed stories and answer your questions. The chauffer's garage is a history of unique automobiles housed beneath a full living quarters. Taje your time walking the grounds with the detailed map you will receive. The gardens, fountains and art are stunning. And when you finish, walk back to the house on your own, or step onto the road to catch the free shuttle for a lift back. Don't miss the 20-minute movie about the life of the du Pont players!

Cindi Butchko

What a wonderful place to visit, only takes a couple of hours to see. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.

John Sollenberger

It was a great tour. The house and grounds are very beautiful and interesting. There are guides that have all the background and information about the family and estate.

EJ Pavese

A wonderfully pleasant way to spend a day. Beautiful, beautiful home and grounds. Friendly, knowledgeable, staff. Highly recommend. Start your tour in the Visitors Center - don't rush past the timeline hallway of the Dupont family and be sure to spend a few minutes watching the brief documentary film. You will be happy you did. Get to know A I. Dupont -- the world could use a man like him right now.

Marc Jagt

What a glimpse into the American dream!

sonya unger

One of two Dupont estates that I took in this weekend. Th mansion is spectacular. Very interesting!
