Here we offer you all the information of real people who have information of the products of Hagley Museum (Museum) in the state of Delaware.
To this day this firm has a score of 4.8 out of 5 and the rating was based on 373 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is basically the highest, and it is founded on a high number of feddbacks, so we may be pretty sure that the valuation is quite credible. If people have bothered to value when they are pleased, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Museum is classified in the category of Historical place museum.
This place is wonderful! I grew up in NJ and didn't even know it was there. The staff are very knowledgeable and happy to tell you about everything. Great walking paths and lots of information. Got a membership so we can go again soon!
Try their Wednesday hike and bike from 5-8 pm! Gorgeous grounds!
Fascinating place with wonderful tour guides. Bring friends and family, they'll thank you.
Awesome place to bring kids of all ages
Had an absolutely awesome time here. The guides and staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. This is the site of the first DuPont powderworks, and includes factory and residential pieces. The mansion and gardens are beautiful. The workshops, which still have working steam and river powered lathes, drills and other equipment were fascinating. Great piece of history.
A must see if you are in the area. Tram tour to the house through the gardens. Guided tour in the house is very good with a lot of history.
Very informative and friendly host and staff
Wonderful museum and pleasant walks. A go to Sunday afternoon destination!
Well kept grounds. Educational. Saturday is science day for kids so they enjoyed activities.
Spent a lot of time at Bagley and the DuPont grounds as a kid. Brought events from local history to life and made it interesting. Definitely worth taking the time to tour!!! Staff is both knowledgeable and friendly.
My husband and I had so much fun coming to this park! It was $15 for admission, and there is a bus that will take you from site to site although you can easily walk the first half of it. We were initially let down because we thought it was going to be more of an arboretum/garden/free roaming place like the Nemours Estate (IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE NEMOURS ESTATE, YOU HAVE TO GO!!!) but it was more like a limited guided tour. Having said that, it was a lot of fun and the staff is so hands on that we learned more about the history of the Du Ponts than in any of the other sites we have been to! (And we have been to several). A charming and hilarious tour guide brings you through the house, you can spend time walking the vegetable gardens and learning more about the land, the bus brings you back to the path where you can walk and explore a little bit of the surrounding land, you get to see how they used to utilize steam and the waterwheel, they fire a mini canon (this was super fun to see), and there is a gunpowder demonstration. You can also walk up to the schoolhouse and practice your quill writing skills, and you can tour an old house where the workers used to live. It was a very educational experience and we do not regret going at all! FYI you will not get cell service here, although the visitors center does have WIFI.
Where Winterthur and Longwood Gardens are for the ladies, Hagley is more for the guys. Loved it!!
This was pretty boring especially for kids. As other reviews stated Guides are constantly telling kids don't do this don't do that. Even when kids are not doing anything. They seem anxious and stressed all the time... The entrance price $15 per person is also a little ridiculous we spend $60! Just to see nothing but old houses and furniture, the powder yard stop which is just walking around a creek. The steam engine also boring and not even working when we went. The easy does it was just to play with bicycle wheels and other wheels.. And try to eat before coming unless you want to spend almost $10 for a ham and cheese sandwich!!
Great tour, very informative.
I fell in love with every detail. So very beautiful. The deep history as well as the craftsmanship is amazing. ❤❤❤❤
We found out about the yearly car show here and decided to make a day trip out of it. The car show was awsome, most all makes and models had representation The local museums that displayed cars had knowledgeable people present so any questions could be answered. A local contingent of British car enthusiasts were there as well so I had an opportunity to meet new people. I only gave it four stars becouse I have to go back and go thru the actual Museum.
Good but horrible horrible place for young children. Many tour guides were quite rude about kids being there. As we went during the week when the kids portion was not available to the public. Other then that it was a beautiful place and well kept landscaping with wonderful history. We just won't go back with kids unless the kids portion was open
Field trip... but I ended up buying a season pass... awesome
Wonderful history of the DuPont family and their origins. History of the Brandywine River mills and industry of the area is very interesting and educational.
A song of Water and Fire. Yes, black powder factory driven by water wheel!
Amazing experience! Lovely place!
I was really impressed with the tours. The information was interesting and the area was pleasant to be in. Even my 11 year old son enjoyed the tour, including the tour of the mansion. There was more to do then I had realized and we will probably go back in the fall. I imagine the trees along the river will be beautiful.
This place is historical gem. In addition to history, it has a regular science program for kids as well. It's also just beautiful. Love visiting with the fam a few times per year.
Great for big and little people who like pumps, gears, and gunpowder.
Exceeded my expectations! The tour guides made it very educational and enjoyable. Good for kids too with the demos.
Love this place! Relaxing just to walk around but Science Saturdays are fun for the kids. Many things to see and do.
Impressive bldgs & grounds. Sm buses ( with a/c!) shuttle you to mansion & grounds. All docents well versed & cordial. ($15adult/$11 senior).DuPont ruled the world for 100+yrs with gun & black powder production!
Great experience, even during the winter. The tour guide was outstanding! If you have a couple of hours, it's worth the time
Wonderful place to go see and learn the beginnings of the Du Pount industry. Very peaceful. Everything is wheelchair accessible.
A lot to see. Best part was the great tour guides who were so knowledeable.
Working history museum, with extensive early industrial architecture. Loved seeing the working water turbine and it's connection to the metal shop. The ground are fascinating and we'll with a few hours walk about. The river is beautiful.
Surprisingly interesting! More of a science museum than a history museum, which I wasn’t expecting. Once you get into the main grounds, the applied science exhibits are fascinating. They bring many physics and chemistry concepts to life.
The museum it's self is quiet small but you can walk around
Surprising location with so many details and interesting tangents, one could easily spend more than a full day. Very serene setting, as well. Highly recommended.
A must see when in the Wilmington area. A unique historic attraction with great tour guides. Enjoy nature and learn about the Du Pont's during the industrial revolution. See heavy machinery nearly 200 years old still operating. Great for all ages.
Passionate, knowledgeable tour guides and employees who really care about the history as well as greater context of the treasures here!
Wonderful museum. Lots to see with very informative demos. Docents really knowlegeable. Some walking but they had a bus that ran throughout the day.
$15 entrance fee allows you spend all day at this wonderful museum complex. Staff is top notch, lots to see, great exhibits with staff that knows how to narrate the story of DuPont's black powder in the US. Large spralinng facility with continuous short bus service; great walk as well if you so choose. We spent 5 hours and did not see everything. Well worth the time and small fee. You won't be disappointed. Get there early!
A wonderful place to learn about the age of water power, production of gun powder and machines in general. Can be lots of walking, although there is a small bus. If it's hot and humid, it can be miserable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Don't miss the exhibit on the first floor of the visitors' center. There is a good gift shop, a little upscale. Follow the signs carefully for the last mile or two: it's easy to miss. Go to the Hagley Museum, NOT the Hagley Library.
Such a beautiful place! Really a very inexpensive outing for the family and worth every penny. We went on a science Saturday with 2 10 year old girls and they were thoroughly entertained all afternoon. Get there early in the day so you have plenty of time to truly experience everything they have to offer.
The people here are truly passionate about the place and their knowledge of the history is truly impressive. The tour guide was very very friendly and she was very knowledgeable. We will be going back in the Fall to see it at another time of year. The history of this site is really interesting and shows what makes American the great country it has always been. I have to thank the DuPont family for being so generous and sharing their success and history with all of us. I am very grateful to the family and the wonderful staff that makes this a wonderful experience. Thank you.
I really appreciate the STEAM activities and the kids really enjoy the interactive exhibits
Great place to walk.
Attended the Wednesday evening bike, hike and Brew. What a great idea! I was pleased to see how many people attended. There were lots of families and both hikers and bikers. We ordered a picnic dinner which was delicious and very reasonably priced. Beware biking the big hill! You will definitely feel a sense of accomplishment when you are done.
Great place
What a great museum! No matter what you like, this is a great museum. Great 19th Century history. Wonderful hands-on science exhibits for kids. Beautiful gardens and grounds. Industrial technology. So much to see and so well presented. Love it!
A nice place to take in some industrial history and a good walk. There is a bus going from exhibit to exhibit.
Beautiful landscaping!! Guides are awesome explaining everything. Specially the guy from the steam machine.
The guides were fantastic. We started with a great welcome from Laura Beasley. Then house tour by Rodney Simmons to machine shop Debbie Krape then roll mill Bill Baldwin. They all did a great job. Must see.
Hagley houses so much history and is such a neat place to visit and learn some of Delaware’s history. The tour takes you back to how things were done in the 1800’s
Look for this place! What a great place to visit on a hot summer day. Fascinating history. Well done!
Had a wonderful time! Beautiful and informative. Love the history!
Went to the museum on Saturday afternoon. Wish we had gotten there in the morning! There was so much to see. Fascinating history of the DuPont family and their earliest business...gunpowder! Lots of actual working 1800's machinery demonstrations. We adults were entranced. There were also some children there and they seemed to be very interested as well. We'll have to go back again to see what we missed.
The DuPonts left the French Revolution to begin producing gun powder at the Hagley site. You can visit each stage of gun powder development. While this didn't sound very interesting to me, it turned out I was fascinated and stayed longer than planned. The site also has the DuPont mansion and worker homes to give a complete picture of what happened at Hagley.
Really great museum to start the visit, beautiful walk alongside the river and superb attractions on route with guides that can't be faulted for their knowledge and friendliness. Certainly worth a visit, but plan on spending the next part of the day here to get the most out of it.
Informative, interesting, beautiful area to see Very knowledgeable guide. This is a very realistic view into the early days of industry in the US.
Go here if you want to learn about the history of DuPont!
A must see! A hidden gem in DE. Coming from Baltimore we had never heard of this site. It turned out to be a museum as well as a working water wheel power 'plant' situated on the beautiful Brandywine river. It was owned by the Dupont family. It has a functioning steam engine as well. It's worth the trip just to take a walk along the river. If you're at all interested in history or if you aren't this is a good place to start ;)
Good options for great pictures.
It's all about how Do Pont got his start. We had a beautiful day, I would not recommend a hot day, much walking, wear good shoes. Beautiful place to visit along side the river.
Great tours, lovely ambiance, very educational for those in 2nd grade and up. Lovely gardens. I go there every chance I get.
Valuable piece of Delaware history. Hike and Bike is great for the kids!
Really nice machinery demonstrations, the third floor of the museum has a discovery interactive section that's great for kids.
Cannon firing demonstration was good. Nice place visit on fall..
Interesting history!
Awesome place we loved it there we spent five hours there and we saw everything there are three different tours two on the hour and one on the half hour one of the tours on the hour takes you an hour they also have a lot of cool dioramas some of them move they have a cafe there that serves good food you also get to look at the old buildings and if you get tired of walking they have a bus.
Very nice place with informative, lovingly presented tours. The outdoor walks are picturesque and the old processes and facilities are the right balance of "as it was." Recommend visiting in the spring and fall, or cooler summer days.
Nice hidden gem
So cool!!! So very, very cool. Became members.
Very friendly staff and tour guides. Everyone of them. They call themselves DuPonters, as do all who work for the DuPont company I am told. All who worked there were very enthusiastic about the DuPont family and what they have done for this country. I would say that their narrative was a little slanted to only see the good, but isn’t that the way of all tour guides? Just take it with a grain of salt when you go and use logic and reasoning. Such as when they tell you that the DuPont’s “educated” all of the poor children of their workers to the point they could read. This meant they were taught during Sunday School for one hour each week. As a first grade teacher I know the children would not have had enough educational time to learn how to read at this rate. I discussed this with my guide but it was insisted that everyone learned to read because of the DuPont’s. I found this delusional. They also refused to broach the topic of slavery or what the DuPont’s did in the later years (think Agent Orange). However, it was very interesting to see the old mills, how they created the first gun powder, how they chose their location, and how everything worked. This would not be the top of my list for places to visit. But if you have a couple of hours and want to learn a little bit of history it would be worth it.
Staff is so helpful. This place is majestic
Best place ever. Other museums and locations talk about water powered, but it is alive and well here at Hagley.
It's pretty but very boring unless you like walking by creeks and history.
Amazing staff who helped me find the documents I needed. Wow!
A wonderful look at 19th century engineering and technology. The staff are friendly and helpful as well as exceptionally knowledgeable! Great place to visit if you're into the history of technology.
Amazing place to start with learning history of Dupont family. Lot of fun. If you coming 3+ people or more than one time - grab membership. Make sure to visit different seasons.
This place is great. We have the Brandywine valley passport and decided to stop by here on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't crowded. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There are many things to see. I highly recommend checking out the demonstrations.
One of the best places to visit. It's nice to see the vintage collection and the history of the French family who came and settled down in the United states. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciate the guide for taking time and explaining us in detail about the history of the Hagley.
Love that place. Especially walking around and learning about gunpowder and how it works. Berlin house restaurant food was deliciously.
Amazing place for the scientifically minded! If you have any interest in chemistry you'll love the place. The gunpowder mills, the water-powered systems, and the museum on the history of the DuPont company (much of which involves polymers) are first-rate.
The have very good guides who know a lot about the importance of this place in American history.
Very interesting museum. I arrived late so I could not tour the entire property which consists of several buildings: working 19th century mill, stationary period steam engine, home of I.E. Du Pont, school house and a few others. The main building was very informative and had several interactive diaramas, a few pieces from the Du Pont family very well preserved and some very interesting information about the formation of their company. The property is very beautiful as well and the staff was very nice and well informed. Tickets only $15 for adults. Be sure to give yourself at least 3-3.5 hours to tour the property and keep in mind they close at 5pm.
Haven't been in a while and the hubby not at all
Our visit to the Hagley Museum put us in the middle of gunpowder history. In 1802 Dupont he sited and began building the mill along the Brandywine River near Wilmington. Brandywine River Powder Mills produced its first gunpowder in 1803. Started as a large-scale, sophisticated manufactory, Brandywine maintained operations for 119 years. The Brandywine River Powder Mills performed shell loading and some smokeless nitrations during World War I. On this property there are 8 rolling mills water wheel & water turbine in different degrees of decay. Brandywine Creek on one side and a man-made water sloth on the other side of the mills kept the powder yard safe from the risk of explosion.
The museum was fascinating. It goes into how the DuPonts started to make their fortune. You can tour their first house which is nice but nothing like the later mansions in grandiosity. The really interesting part is the mill. They made black powder for guns and cannons etc. Great exhibits and explanations. Also, live demonstrations of a metal working shop, and tours of the mill buildings.
Excellent history and DuPont and the way they harnessed the energy of the Brandywine river to power a lot of mechanics
Awesome place to go to. Our your guide was fantastic and funny.
It was great. So glad we went. The tour guides are very professional and the tours are so informative. Well worth the money
Science Saturday was a blast. Great place to take a family.
Great history lesson about the start for the DuPont family in Deleware. The house and furnishings are relatively modest compared to Winterthur and Nemours, but it is still well worth visiting. It is a fun way to spend a few hours.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. The tour guides all had a great attitude even in the horrible heat we had that day, and we enjoyed their quirky personality.
Great experience for kids and adults alike. Have been coming here for years and the staff are as friendly and helpful as ever. Only wish they tied their talks to the Delaware social studies standards language.
They have a really nice staff and they explain everything perfectly about all the history there.
Make Suri to give yourself enough time to enjoy the museum
Such a blast (haha) being here! We stopped in just before 4pm and enjoyed the last hour the museum was open. Wish we could have spent more time there! In the short one hour we got to see the machine shop demo and gunpowder demo. Both are amazing. Highly, highly recommend!
Very informative and inspiring
The lady that does the tour of the bedroom upstairs needs to learn how to deal with children. She seemed really stressed out and constantly saying don't do this and don't do that. I don't recommend this place for young children especially those with behavior issues. The parking for buses is a hike and a half and it was freezing cold outside. The school house teacher was nice and so was the gentleman who does the cookies.
Great place to visit. I spent over 4hours here and enjoyed every minute of it.
A great tour. The tour guides were so detailed in their stories & I learned wonderful history about our country's early beginning & about the DuPont family. Wonderful place for families to visit. Loved it all. Will be back.
So interesting and educational! Give yourself several hours to see everything!
Fascinating museum of industrial history.
Great family night experience!
Can't say enough about this wonderful tour! You not only your through the home, but also the machines shop, steam engine room, grounds, water wheels, etc. It was so much to see. You could easily spend the day here! Tour guides were top notch!!!
This place tells the history behind the production of "black powder" by the DuPont company, as well as the family behind it. Wonderful tours and beautiful property and gardens.
The museum was very nice and educational. Will come back again.
Great place to visit and get some local and National history. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The E.I. Dupont House was beautiful inside and out. The displays and exhibits are great to experience, some coming to life with stories, lights, and movement.
This is a must if you're at all interested in the DuPont family history. Well preserved. Great tour; very informative.
Absolutely love this place. Got a membership so we could go over and over.
Very interesting
Very educational, and full of a lot of activities for everyone to enjoy!
The Soda House at the Hagley Museum was the venue for our wedding reception. Heather was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. The grounds are excellent for taking photos, and the tours they offer during museum hours are delightful. We even had a cannon demonstration prior to our reception, and everybody loved it! Way to start our new life off with a bang! Thank you, Hagley!
Very informative. Transportation was very convenient. The docents were knowledgeable and readily answered additional questions !
Everyone should understand something of how life was lived 200 years ago and how the ingenuity of people then helped bring us to where we are today. Hagley is an excellent place for young and old to gain those insights.
Well documented history of one of the oldest companies in the nation, DuPont. A company that has dwindled in recent decades, it attracted brilliant minds that made breakthrough inventions over the past 215 years. Every day you see or feel something that was first developed by a DuPont engineer or scientist. It all started here.
Beautiful setting. Historical site; very interesting. Something to interest all.
Way more fun and informative than I expected. Getting to be in a fully-functional, water-driven machine shop and seeing the gunpowder power exhibition really made this a good way to spend an afternoon.
What a marvelous, unplanned discovery! Curiosity got me there, and the enjoyment of the experience will keep me going back for more. So much to see and learn about, all in the most peaceful environment.
Beautiful trails and buildings. Well worth the visit.
Loved it so much spent 2 days here! If in the area it is a must see! Engineering at its finest !
Great museum with lots of information about Dupont family and history of Delaware.
Amazing museum! A lot of history from the 19th century. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.
I learned a lot on the tour. Very interesting!
interesting museum
Hayley museum and mills is the site of Henry DuPont's first business created in the late 1800s ; a black powder mill used to create gun powder for the Civil War.The tour is very informative with docents walking you through the entire process that DuPont created in his original mill. A caution for anyone with any mobility problems; you need to be able to walk through a lot of uneven terrain ( as someone with a cane, I found it rather difficult). A tour of DuPont's first home and gardens is also included. If you are into early American history, you will enjoy this tour. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and fun.
Great museum and grounds
During the week is great to tour. Not crowded. Belin house cafe has wonderful food, great crab cakes, organic and vegan selections. Prices are inexpensive in my opinion. Tour guides are retired professionals, that can convey the rich history.
I love the history in DE! This museum is so well run. The grounds are gorgeous!
My husband and I had a nice experience here. They were very friendly and the grounds are beautiful.
Always a good time for the whole family
Interesting tour of the house and gardens but not much else to see on the estate.
Beautiful area for walks along the river. Many interesting views and displays.
This place was clean and educational.
Good for walking. Good for learning about history.
A lovely museum to visit prior to taking a short bus ride to the DuPont mansion.
This was my first visit, there is lots of historical structures left to see. The grounds are extensive, and its along the Brandywine River, so its nice for a hike too. I enjoyed the mansion tour and had a nice lunch at the cafe. There's not a lot of food places close by (I saw none on the way in), so pack a lunch if you are making a day of it, but I enjoyed the cafe. I ended up spending almost 6 hours here, taking pictures, and a leisurely self guided tour. The little buses take you around the site, if you wish. Its not really a place for young children, but I would say 7 and up would enjoy it. Its also a great place for couples, I saw they have picnic dinners for 2 on select days in the summer and would make a romantic date. I came on a weekday, so after the school groups left in the morning, I had the place mostly to myself. I definitely want to come back! Update: I came back for a Christmas tour, and it was worth the 2nd trip, I saw and learned things I hadn't on my 1st visit, and everyone is so friendly! I plan on a spring visit. Hagley is great in any season!
Did the hike and bike night. Delightful scenery, delicious ice cream truck and beer available for purchase. I would enjoy coming during regular hours as well to see the rest of the buildings. So much history and stuff to learn here as well as some cool things to see!
Very interesting. The photo of the turbine driven by the water was incorrectly attributed to the adjacent state park. Lots of history here. The flower and vegetable garden is being returned to its historical origins. Very peaceful and the trees are wonderful.
Great grounds and interesting history. Needed to spend more time. Will return.
From the moment we walked in the visitor center until we left, we had an awesome experience. Since it was a chance of rain all day, I believe that kept most people away and that was okay with us. We were the only ones on the van with the very well educated driver who personalized the tour as we went along the route. Then we got to the house and was again given one on one service with the tour guide who really knew her info too. We ended with the guided tour of the Roll Mill, a must for the history in it's self. Our tour guide was even generous to do it all in the rain so we could fully experience the whole tour. I highly recommend visiting the Hagley Museum!
This museum is a working exibit which brings to life the mill and workshop this is unique to other museums for parents this will keep your children's attention
Very interesting! The machine shop was my favorite. Employees are very knowledgeable and informative. They are also very friendly and helpful.
Doing alot of wrk @ this amazing place. A must see, great place 2 visit..... ❤
Kid friendly. Excellent scenery.
I've been here 3 times, always with different members of the family, it's the beginning history of the Dupont family. Nice museum, there is a nice little cafe that serves organic style lunches, nothing fancy. Places is very nice, museum was established in the early 1950's and improvements have come along over time, many volunteers support the museum. I like the museum, the displays of the steam engine, the repair shop, and the main museum, at the front. You may not have enough time to make it a day, it's that big. The grounds are excellent. It competes with many other excellent nearby attractions. Good for the older generation. Being here 3 times, I don't mind coming back.
Great staff, beautiful place to visit
Amazing experience. The Boys Scouts learned a lot here.
Great Dupont museum
