REVIEWS OF Discoversea Shipwreck Museum IN Delaware

Lisa Matuskiewicz

The museum was amazing, the artifacts were plentiful. They were nicely arranged in glass cabinets with information on location where it was found, what it is, and used for. The lady was rude though, could use a better tone when speaking to people. No photos are allowed to be posted on social media.

Jenna Stephens

Owner has a great collection! And it's free to browse. Lots of history to be seen and plenty to learn. Dont be thrown off by the gift shop entrance. Owner is there if you have any questions about a piece and there are even a few mystery pieces.

Kevin Homick

Lots of fun, eclectic items recovered from shipwrecks. Cool beach-related items for sale. Friendly staff and clean store. We stop every year!

Very interesting, made from a private collection. Some times you can have the great privilege to meeting the collector and also who discovered this treasure!

Jamie Wester

Great staff, very knowledgeable. Great gift shop below the museum.

Patrick Ryan

Really interesting stuff. Its free. It would probably take 20-45 minutes depending on if you like to read the info cards or not.

Casimer

I try to go in there at least once a week. I love stuff surrounding the mystery of the sea as well as pirates!

James Witchell

I absolutely loved this place! I was staying at a hotel just down the road, and I saw this place when I was exploring the map before we came on vacation. I was really looking forward to visiting, and it did not disappoint! So many amazing artifacts! I really enjoyed the little corner in the back that had a little "did you know?" type collection. There's too many things to name. I was with my 3 year old autistic daughter, who isn't quite old enough to be impressed! I wish I had been able to spend much more time! I was able to take pictures, so I could finish reading the information with the artifacts after I left. They just ask that you use the pictures for your personal use, not social media.

Melissa Baume

This place has so much history and they do not charge an entry fee.

David Alcantar

Cool museum, a great place to stop and pass some time.

Amy Aldrich-Pick

Excellent, never disappointed when we visit! Very educational and informative! 10 stars!!!

Jonathan Kletzing

Free museum with awesome artifacts! I love coming here even though I've see it a dozen times or more.

Pat Traverse

Fascinating place to visit. Lots of artifacts from well known shipwrecks including the Titanic. Free!!!

Bolling Willse

Excellent exibit... Perhaps the most informative museum I have ever been to, on a beach vacation.

Jamie Hofman

It's probably the most cultural, educational experience you're going to have in Ocean City. (Though that is not saying much! ;) )

Lori Reisinger

Very cool place!!!

Alejandro Ulloa Arenas

For a small individually run place it is good

Kaitlyn Potter

Awesome collection of items from multiple shipwrecks! We really enjoyed our visit, only complaint was the guy seemed to attend more to older guests and we had to hear the cool stories he was telling eavesdropping because he didn’t approach us.

Paul Doyle

A nice little museum in the store. There was enough there to entertain the adults, but my 8 year old never got bored. We really enjoyed it.

Aaron Maust

Fascinating artifacts and history. If you can catch the owner and treasure hunter himself Dale, you must ask him for a few stories...he will not disappoint to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Pamela Hagler

Great little museum above hhuge souvenir store.

Evil Kaos

My family loves yo come back every year to see what is new

chip kesting

A fun place to learn something about shipwrecks off of OC, md

Robert Yeager

Very cool display of shipwreck artifacts. It is not a large museum so if you are looking for something to occupy a lot of time with the kids this isn't it. However it is really interesting and the gentleman who runs it is very informative and helpful. It is also above a store with the biggest collection of sea shell goodies I have ever seen. Both are definitely worth a visit!

Arthur Jackson

Cool selection of sea shells, disappointed that the ship wreck museum was closed, its closed every Wednesday.

Sue Green

Fun interesting place.

Xx0ME0xX

Very nice museum, not very big but has a lot of cool and interesting items for sure. Some are weird too, go and find out for yourself, its free other than the optional donation.

Rick Shoes

Glad that Dale opened this museum for the locals, this a great place. History is so important and people can learn it here first hand

Suzzanna Goodwin

Louise Ready

Absolutely unbelievable !!!!!

Fascinating collection of artifacts. This museum is located on the second floor of the Sea Shell City store. We called ahead to check on the museum hours. Extremely helpful staff that answered all of my families questions. You could literally spend hours here reading each display card and gazing into the history of each piece. Not just a lesson in shipwrecks but life on board a vessel, circumstances, and difficulties faced by men and women aboard. Each display was arranged neatly with perfect lighting. There was a collection of various pieces for sale and a small gift shop as well. Highly recommended!

David Byt

Very interesting displays, try to catch them when they will let you handle some of the treasure. My wife was overjoyed when he let her hold a spoon from the Titanic. We revisit every year.

Sean Murray

Wealth of knowledge. Everything beautifully displayed. Sucks you right in to the history of these objects.

chilling with Dylan

Luke S

This place is super cool, and it's free. Dale puts his stuff on display for the public, and if he is there, you can watch him work.

Billy G

Great interesting collection of history items. Free admission. Donated money to them because their collection is good. It is located upstairs in the store.

Aidan Ward

An awesome and interesting place with a cool gift shop on the ground floor. A must-do for any vacation goer, especially for a rainy day.

Kimberly Way

Love this hidden gem

Tina Richardson

Shockingly amazing. I cannot believe this stuff is not stored in an actual museum instead of on the second story of a building on the side of the road. Ocean City, you need a proper museum! I am so sorry if I offended you. It's such an incredible collection and I really do believe it could be put on display along with other collections on a grander scale. Thanks for sharing your collection with the rest of us.

Melissa Beeman

Amazing collection of artifacts

Michael Carkhuff

An incredibly immersive and historically rich, fun, and engaging experience for all ages. restroom for patrons only. The curator was friendly and very knowledgeable about the subject matter as well as the various restoration process used for the pieces. Staff was friendly and welcoming, and the best part of it all was that this experience was absolutely free aside from the items we picked up at the gift shop on the first floor. Overall a fantastic time. Our 4 year old loved it. At least one of the displays was interactive with buttons and lights and he was fascinated by the variety in artifacts.

Don Asher

Excellent free museum

Christopher Miller

Rita Tennefoss

Fascinating stories heard here! We loved it!

Ray T

A free museum! Beautiful relics and interesting history. It's above a typical seashell/tourist/knicknack shop, so it's easy to overlook. It's well worth a looksee.

Annette Rufle

My favorite beach store ever. Love there sea shell selection!!!! And museum is really interesting

Dead Red

Most amazing treasures!

Greg Gupton

Great place in a crappy location. This place is easy to miss because it's above a ginchy Sea Shell Shop. But the shipwreck exhibits are absolutely genuine, all locally sourced, well labeled and displayed, and interesting to kids as well as their parents. When I visited, Dale Clifton Jr, who is the proprietor and (with his dad) dove/sourced most of the items on display. He was working the room and answering all the kids' questions. Highly recommend!

Fran DeFillippo

Incredible!!!!! ⚓

chelleb91

Very interesting and amazing items. No pictures allowed

Bethany Nozzi

Super cool museum to check out if you’re in the area!

Big John

We love this little museum. It is truly amazing, little, less often visited place. Lots of lost treasures, gems, gold, tools, etc. What makes this so awesome is the owners. You can tell they have a passion for recovering items from shipwrecks. Listening to his stories, answering questions you have, and learning about shipwrecks is great. We learned so much about the search, salvage, danagers, and legal struggles was eye opening. You can also buy legitimate coins from what he and his crew found. Highly recommended if you ever wanted to be a pirate ;)

Andrew Sheets

I loved this place

iliad fastness

This fascinating museum is located on the second floor of Fenwick Island's Sea Shell City. Treasure and interesting artifacts from shipwrecks along the East Coast are on display along with background information. It's amazing to see what has been recovered from local beaches. The curator was eager to answer any questions and you could tell he was really proud of his exhibit. This small museum contains an intriguing and wide ranging collection of nautical objects and lost history. There're so many curiosities here so well featured from sunken ships that time stands still as you try to imagine when and how they were used. The store on the first floor is one of the better sea shell shops and has some nice souvenirs.⚓

Jesse L

An awesome hidden shipwreck museum right above Sea Cell City store, that’s 100% free. I recommend either donating or buying an authentic shipwreck coin/souvenir to show appreciation for the really cool place. Very friendly employee there as well

S Ward

Awesome place with really cool sunken treasure and artifacts found at shipwrecks and on the ocean floor. Lots of historical information about each piece. It's free and very family friendly. The guy talks to anyone and answers all sorts of questions.

Jim Kohler

Jessica Sandstrom

Coolest free museum.

Lori Royce

Loved all of the history and stories. Thanks Dale for all of your knowledge and hard work.

Serena Sellers

So much better than you would expect for a museum over a souvenir shop. Really interesting presentation of an impressive collection of artifacts.

Lorie Camden-Stout

A wonderful free museum with incredible artifacts that were found locally. Great gift shop downstairs also!

Dan Wesely

Go to this place twice, see if you can sit in on some explanations about the exhibits from the proprietor. It's a nice little tucked away spot with a lot of piratey things. Not handicapped accessible from what I could tell, it's a narrow flight of stairs to get up there, and I didn't see any elevators. Exhibits were enclosed, so kids were easily kept out of mischief.

bethserenagoble

Extremely interesting!

Mary Rasa

Free museum. One man's personal diving collection. Extremely impressive.

thomas lanham

Great place. Hidden treasures great owner.

Alex Halterman

Amazing pieces of history nestled in a little oceanside town. You will not believe the history and the stories behind the artifacts. Ever hold a Gold bar from a shipwreck? If you are lucky he will bring one out from the safe for you to admire. Best place in Fenwick Island.

Cheryl Reed

Bob Nosbaum

My favorite place to visit when I am in the area.

Jeffrey Ensor

The lady that was working at the museum was not so friendly, but over all it was a good experience. The exhibits are great, but man that lady was rude.. lol

What an amazing place ,wish I had a chance to talk to the owner.

Nicholas Cole

Wow is all you have to say. Dale was so very nice and talked to use for almost an hour about his finds. Must see

L Lester

Great information and fee is by donation. You could spend an hour or so if you read all the interesting details of the various shipwrecks and recovery process, or you could just breeze through and see some cool stuff. Family friendly.

Breanna Pyle

Absolutely breathtaking artifacts! Mr Dale is such a sweet guy, he takes his time to talk to you and tell you about his dives!

Theresa Keller

Best little secret stop you can make at the beach! Really cool nautical items with a very knowledgeable museum guide! Don't be fooled by the store front...this is a hidden gem for an afternoon jaunt!

Rebecca Skinner

A mainstay at Fenwick we always love to visit.

Athon Clemons

Great place lots of interesting stuff

Ps4iz

This is the second time we have visited this place and it was just as amazing the second time around. You think you are just walking into a souvenir store and they do have a good selection of seashells and other gifts but upstairs is where you find the real reason for coming here. The collection of artifacts is dazzling and beautifully displayed. It’s amazing how much history is packed into such a small space and my kids were awestruck at all the gold and at the idea that an old spoon found in the water could be just as important as a huge block of gold or silver. The gentleman who runs the place was also very gracious to the young ones and pulled out a couple of “pirate coins” and showed them a few magic tricks-they are still practicing by the way

Bonnie Esbenshade

Interesting

Edward Del Grosso

Small quick display, but incredibly well done. Nice local artifacts. Upstairs from a pretty nice souvenir shop

Tom Wyrick

Made a point to visit this place, based on a number of online reviews. I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. When you go to one of the beaches in this part of the country, you generally have a boardwalk or strip filled with the predictable gift shops selling t-shirts and trinkets, ice cream and fudge shops, pizza parlors, etc. This was a legitimate museum on the second floor of what you’d easily write off as another typical gift shop otherwise. The owner is a diver and recovered some of the items himself, while others are part of temporary exhibits on loan. He has a small workshop area where items are cleaned up and restored for display, too. Among other interesting items there was a sculpture carved out of a real human bone, recovered from a pirate ship, and a crudely formed gold bar made from bootleg gold (no tax stamp on it). There was also an exhibit with dishes, silverware and some other items from the Titanic’s sister ship on the White Star line. He does request that you not upload photos you take to the Internet without his permission. So I can’t share what I saw. But it’s free (donations welcome) and worth taking a look at it yourself if you’re in the area!

Gerald H

There is a lot of good info and tons of artifacts in this place. It is above the Shell City store, the stairway is inside the store. I did not see an elevator or wheelchair-access method. I learned quite a bit about how gold bars and coins were made.

Richard Reigart

I find this place to be an amazing experience especially, because I love history. I love the historical artifacts they find along the east coast of Delaware and I think you will like it too. It is pored me to want to medal detect off the coast of OC MD and Deleware

Danya Bartron

Michael Dixon

So much too see !

DjToxlc f

this place was very cool and is worth going to

Kathy Lutz

This museum has a wealth of history just waiting for you. It is beautifully maintained and if you are lucky enough to visit when Dale is there you have really hit the jackpot. Thank you so much for opening up the museum today for us and sharing a small part of your life with us.

Jared Hieber

Angelo Colusso

Great and interesting place you'll learn a lot about what's underneath the ocean

Tahaja Green

They even have things from the slavery times

David Wheeler

Detailed exhibit conveys life on the 18th century seas.

Michael Sullivan

Small but interesting, did not hold the attention of my 3 boys ages 6, 9, and 11.

Isaiah Jackson

Ok

Ashley Livesay

If you like history and especially shipwrecks this is a good place to stop and check out. It is upstairs to a souvenir shop so that's a little weird but not a bad way to spend some time. Learned a bit and found the restoration accept of this amazing. How some of these items are restored to their original beauty is remarkable.

Cole Chmielewski

The discoversea shipwreck museum is a fun and family friendly adventure that is perfect for a rainy day at the beach. All the artifacts are authentic, and they make it so easy to slip into the history of these shipwrecks. I would recommend this to people of all ages, especially those interested in learning more about these historical pieces.
