The Hill-Stead Museum is a beautiful wedding/event venue - offering stunning grounds to accommodate large and intimate gatherings alike. Options for indoor & outdoor ceremonies and receptions. The backdrop views are breath-taking and the Sunken Garden is magical!

Touring a rich old white persons house... If that's what looks fun for you then I recommend going. Good art pieces and interesting history.

The trails were mucky in some spots (shoes are muddy). And I brought my dog also which was a bad idea because of the infestation of ticks. Was pulling ticks off of her every 5 minutes. Other than that it's a beautiful place. Couldn't find the overlook area either. And some parts weren't mowed.

ALways love this place. Only place where you can see impressionistic art in the setting it was meant to be in... e.g. Monet, Desgas on the wall of a house. And other nice antiques and grounds...

Gary Antigiovanni

On a beautiful sunny summer day we were treated to a history of golf including putting with old clubs on on old style greens a Beatrix Farrand garden at its peak and a tour of a lovely home and fabulous private art collection. Excellent.

Nice home in perfect condition formerly occupied by Theodate Pope. The house is just like she left it when she died in 1946.

A small gem of home that is a museum in which one feels like a guest invited to enjoy a Sunday dinner. But where one is surrounded by impressionist masterpieces and other art like Sung Period Chinese vases and Japanese prints. I visited on a perfect June day when the gardens were at a peak.. The tour had only 7 people and a knowledgeable guide. It lasted about an hour but I could have stayed the day and not had enough. Worth a detour and give it a super rating.

Lydia Main

Interesting to see. Local history. Beautiful house and paintings.

The Hillstead Museum hosts the annual May Market: a home, garden and gourmet benefit event! Celebrate spring in the heart of the Farmington Valley while supporting Hillstead’s beautiful grounds, gardens and trails.

Deborah LaPlace

I loved the art in the home. You can see how people lived with masterpieces.

Samuel Chase

Excellent renovation of a turn of the century farm house, with architecture by the US first woman in the profession.

Erika Thiel

An unexpected gem in Farmington CT! I went for a local fair but was amazed by the story, the original pieces of monet art work (as well as other artists) and the entire layout of the land! I will be going back and paying for a full tour of the museum. My fiance and I are even discussing this as a future wedding location. It's an absolutely beautiful place and if you appreciate art and history then this is an inexpensive must see.

If you are a fan of Money, Manet, Whistler, and/or Degas you must come here. Their art work literally cannot leave the museum due to the will left by the owner so you can only see them here at Hillstead.

while we did not have time to take the tour, we were able to walk the gardens and grounds, watch the video history of Hillstead, and totally enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. We will be returning.

Great wandering around the farm, picnicking on the grounds, and touring the fabulous Monets inside. I'll definitely be back!

Joe Thompson

Brilliant museum. You will learn a great deal about art and architecture by visiting.

Baltazar Lopez Jimenez

It's a nice country house, which has been turned into a museum. It exhibits masterpieces of the Impressionism, especially Degas and Monet.

Danielle Bennett

My 8 year old daughter visited the Hillstead on a school field trip and loved it. So, when it was time for us to have a special mom/daughter day and I told her we could do a day trip to anywhere she'd like - she chose the Hillstead! This museum exceeded my expectations in EVERY way. The stunning art, the walking trails, the gorgeous mansion, and especially the welcoming and knowledgeable staff made our day exceptional. Thank you to Michelle, Amy and the other wonderful staff who made the day unforgettable! I plan on going back and bringing other family members and friends to this beautiful place.

This is such a treasure that I am torn about raving about it or keeping quiet to keep it 'my' secret.....the house is a home.....the artwork on the walls are 'simply' what a family might bring back from a trip....but oh what artwork! I now live in the UK but return to it when I visit CT...... Mrs. Robert Hoult

Exquisite art collection, surrounded by a fabulous mansion. If you're in the area, take the tour.

Jen Sanford

Felt rushed on tour- they should have stated the tour is an hour long when purchasing Tickets and should offer a cart ride for touring the grounds - not a place for people with walking issues

Mitchell Friedman

Lovely home and grounds with outstanding collection of art and furniture. At the time of great wealth at the turn of the century.

David Scales

We didnt go into the museum but rather say on a bench and read . The grounds are breathtaking set up on a small hill looking out over the valley. I have been in the museum several times and it is wonderful also.

Beth Quinn

Great house tour. We also enjoyed the woodland trail.

Joseph Janiga

A great tour and an opportunity to get a taste of the Guilded Age. The house is beautiful and well preserved. There is a variety of Impressionist art that you can only see here as they do not travel. Check out the website. The tour guides are knowledgeable and take their time . The grounds are beautiful!

One of the most interesting house museums I've ever been to. Also the place where I've seen the most Monet haystacks paintings--and I've been to Paris!

Steve Prowten

This is a very nice, small art collection in a beautiful setting.

Alex Smith

A hidden gem - not a very large art collection, but very beautiful pieces. The story of the family, the house and the grounds...all great.

Joe Roberts

We arrived early enough so that we could explore the grounds. There are well marked paths that lead directly from the parking lot. At the beginning of each trail are boxes that contain maps of the trails. We followed the pond trail and we were rewarded with a view of a great blue heron as well as many bluebirds. Next, we took the tour of the residence. The docent was knowledgeable as well interesting to listen to. We learned about the family, the residence and the extensive collection of works of art. After approximately an hour tour, we went back outside. We found a picnic table that was in a nice shady area. We had a beautiful view of the house, gardens and the grounds. As we enjoyed our lunch, we had a chance to reflect on our visit.

Jamie Hull

Pretty cool collection! Especially liked the garden!

Jane Murdock

The only place in the world to see select hay stacks, Degas, Ming dynasty pottery... et cetera. Amazing art collection. A "must visit" site.

The tour is really great. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and was able to focus the tour topics on the things we were more specifically interested in whole still providing context

I was very impressed with this museum. If you plan on going inside the home, you'll have to take a guided tour. The docent that took me on the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly! There is a lot of beautiful art to see in addition to sculptures and architecture. I love that they left the house as it was designed and decorated by the owners. Very much worth the visit!
