If you have even a minor interest, you should visit here, a variable array of rail memorabilia as well as actually cars, freight cars, cabooses, and engines, many looking for loving care . If you live in the area - volunteer, you'll get hooked!! Don was a fount of information told in an engaging way.

Great museum and cute town. The gentlemen who work here have been there for over 30+ years. It’s a must visit!

Steve Borsher

Another is what it is venue. If you like trains you'll love it: old engines and cars, and plenty of people to answer questions. Hourly train rides and other interesting artifacts, like this train turntable. And you can enter interesting cars like a steam engine cab and a mail car. Call to check hours after 8/31.

Fred Martz

Extensive display of vintage railroad equipment in spacious rail yard. Interesting museum exhibits and model trains in old Danbury station. My favorite piece is the antique double-ended wrecking crane used in the tunnels at Grand Central Terminal in NYC.

Fun place to take kids. Relatively small but the history is interesting. The outside was closed when we went so we do have more to see with the rain check they gave us. Looking forward to returning.

We've had a family membership for the past 4 years and it has been great. The boys and I never tire of coming to the museum which has not only a wonderful indoor display area, but also what is the greatest collection of engines and cars of all kinds stored out in the yard. There are great special events and the staff are kind and happy to share their knowledge.

A must visit place if you are in the Danbury area with kids.Lots to learn for kids. They have working models, a lot of exhibits for kids and adults both. There is a train ride as well where u can can either take tickets for sitting in the coach or locomotive. The locomotive can seat only 2. On the way you see the yard and a locomotive turntable. This place definitely needs money and volunteers for the upkeep and to preserve the history for the future generations.Check out the wooden whistle in the gift shop.

Patrick Meaden

Do not recommend. The staff are very rude and impolite and get irritated oder the simplistic questions.

We went to visit Uncle Sam. What fun! We have been to the museum on a previous visit which we enjoyed. There is something for everyone and we learned so much about the railroad history. It's good for all ages. There is some hands on stuff for the kids to do.

Matt Tarsi

Great selection of trains and lots to keep younger kids busy inside. Make sure to go on a dry day to climb on the trains.

Matt Healey

A fun and inexpensive adventure into the history of trains and railways in general, as well as that of Danbury itself. I'm very happy to support this organization.

Mark Passero Jr.

If you haven't visited the Danbury Railway museum yet, you haven't lived! The museum has come a long way over the years, and it's better than ever! What really make this museum stand out are the people. The people who run and care for this place are some of the hardest working people I've ever met, and have a true passion for preservation of these historic trains. Many if not all of them once worked or, still currently work for the railroad system and volunteer their time come and make this museum one of the best train museums I've been to in some time. It even rivals some Pennsylvania rail yards that are very large but don't offer the kind of experience quite like this one. It'll take you all day to see everything that they have. I highly recommend this place!

值得從紐約專程來造訪的鐵路博物館,裏面有各個時代的火車,還可以乘坐一段體驗古老破舊的車。

A great museum. I really liked the displays and history and model railroad that are inside the building. The train yard could be a little more inviting, but still very interested. Well worth the price of admission overall.

The a cute little place... kind of wish there was one day during the week to do a train ride not just on weekends or special holidays.

I had never been in a caboose before. Now I got that scratched off the ol' bucket list.

John Hildebrand

Great train museum.. indoor and outdoor..lots of old railroad equipment on display...

Kids loved the model railroads and exploring real trains. Train ride wasnt great but only cost $3. Best part of the train ride was seeing the working turntable from 1913.

Awesome Museum but needs additional funding and volunteers to really show off the collection. The staff is incredibly passionate about what they do.

Santos Cardona

The best. Get a library pass.

A Marshal

A very diverse collection of railroad history. The collection inside the station includes model railroads of various scales, photographs, documents and hardware. The external collection includes freight cars, passenger cars, locomotives' and a wood New York Central caboose. The admission charge is reasonable and donations are accepted.

Excelente lugar para pasar un buen rato con los niños, conocer la historia de la estación de ferrocarriles y poder imaginar como operaba en esa época.

Wow what a hidden gem. I recently had the opportunity to chaperone kids on their school trip to the DRM. I am a full blown rail fan and yet never thought to visit this museum. I was so impressed with the huge inventory of railroad antiques, rolling stock, and the dedicated members. The grounds are wonderful and the ride on the turntable is a must. Such a great piece of history and so thankful it has been preserved for others to experience.

Christopher Jackson

Great experience, definitely worth checking out! My son loved it!

J Weis

This museum has very little focus - and way more stuff then they can handle. Their train ride doesn't go anywhere and they no longer run real train trips and instead spend lots of money on historically inaccurate projects. Still worth seeing ONCE and doing ONCE - but as one of their tour guides once told me the politics of the place causes them to trip over each other instead of really being a good museum. Its fun for kids who don't know any better and just want to see a choo choo. There are at least 2 other railroad museums in CT that are way way better.

Nathaniel Dwyer

Great train museum! Lots of interesting things to look at, and multiple model train displays. Very friendly staff.

Zachary Mankowitz

This is a really good and interesting museum about trains ranging from steam era all the way to modern locomotives. Staff is very nice and the museum is kid friendly (hands on things and challenges). There is a main exhibit hall with model trains, video, and more! Outside, there are real trains which you can walk in and explore

Harold Estep

Great staffing, outstanding gift shop, and all around great fun for the whole family!!! Can't wait to come back again!

Great stuff for kids to look at. A little disappointed at the santa train ride....but it was cheap so it's hard to complain. I love the station and the model trains the kids can play with.

Fun low price gift shop

It has alot of history about the railroad and a yard full of engines and cars you can check out. The museum/station(which was built early 1900s) itself has a lot of cool artifacts..They also have a turntable and pump house you can check out as you take a quick ride on a small track. We enjoyed ourselves. I thought the mail train was the coolest. We would definantly recommend. Its good for all ages.

Leon Standly

Awesome experience. Great place to take your kid's on a way-back train experience

Sandra Ciosek

It’s a small museum but it has so much history and great engines. The displays are fun and interactive for kids and adults who really love trains.

mike pankiw

I really enjoyed this museum they had all kinds of trains I remember as a kid

Daniel Snavely

I think it's sad and disappointing that there are negative reviews for this little museum. I will agree that it is not a spectacular destination for people who already know everything about trains, but it is a wonderful day trip spot for those of us who love history and can appreciate when our communities are trying to preserve it. My 2 1/2 year old and I went on a weekday and it was totally empty. We were free to peruse the model trains (which were really great!), and she was able to play with the wooden trains in the toddler area while I walked around the main room and checked out some of the collections (old uniforms, sets of China from the Pullman company, baggage carts, and much more). We thought that was a great museum and a fun trip, and then the volunteer working the door asked us if we were ready to go outside. We had no idea what treats awaited us out there. Yes, they have many donated cars that are in various states of disrepair and unavailable to the public. That said, they also have several really nice restored cars that you can feel free to climb around in and check out. The steam engine was a highlight for me, while the mail car and cabooses were marvels to my toddler. We both loved the old diesel passenger car and had fun pulling the brake lever and checking out the various types of "trucks" and different cars that sat in the yard. The fact that it was totally informal just added to the charm. There were a few other visitors that day and we all had a blast exploring on our own. It seems to me that a criticism of this museum is that it isn't "fancy." To me, that was its charm. It was lovely (even just visiting the old station, where the museum is housed, was neat to me), and the volunteer staffers were awesome. When we were there, a lady in her 80s was running the door, the yard, and the gift shop by herself. Her husband was out with a few other retiree volunteers working on restoring an old wooden caboose. I thought that was really cool and very charming. I think this museum is a hidden gem of Western CT and I'd encourage anyone who lives around here to make a stop! Next up for us will be the pumpkin patch ride, where we can ride the train in costume to pick a pumpkin for Halloween. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

David McGrath

It's not the most impressive museum but for the price it's a great place to go. My 2 year old loved it here. Toy trains to play with, very detailed model train setups and since we were the only ones there midweek in the morning we got a private tour of the railyard.

Eleanor Petiprin

The danbury railway is a great place to go ESPECIALLY the holiday events. The events are GREAT for kids 7 under. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the events aren't for everyone, at least in MY opinion.

Esteban Rodriguez

Great place to visit with your little rail fans.

Christopher Haggerty

vikram bhatia

Nice place to spend couple of hours and learn about history of trains in States.

Thom Daniel

Got to take the last ride on the turntable before restoration. Awesome!
