REVIEWS OF Colorado Railroad Museum IN Colorado

Mark Dutka

The volunteers were helpful and gave us a lot of history and details about RR companies and equipment!

Patrick Crennen

What a great, 60 year old museum. Check out the Saturday stream engine train rides, they are great!

Lisa DellaTerza

Even on a Monday, there was still a ton to do! My 2 year old had a blast climbing in the trains. He loved the train simulator, especially blowing the whistle.

Denise Smith

Our grandsons loved this place! They were able to climb into old train cars and there was even an interactive model train area with very patient operators who accommodated all the different ages of children we had with us.

Shannon Gerdel

This is a must see if you like trains!

Laura Lane

Interesting Museum. My husband enjoyed it.

SEKing725

If you were ever into trains as a kid, this is the go to spot! They have trains from all the way back to the 1800s to modern diesel engines, and all the info you could ever want on the trains, railroads, and history of transportation. Definitely worth a stop to ride the train and learn about American history

Nate Scheblo

Got to have a ride on Galloping Goose 7, pretty cool contraption! This museum seems to be very well equipped to make repairs and get rolling stock in operating condition. Loved the ability to freely roam the property with minimal restriction. Most railroad places go overboard on safety and restrictions to the point where it’s not fun and nearly pointless. Here you can get up close and personal and touch things! The round house, and turntable are very cool! If only they had an existing mainline connection! A great collection of narrow and standard gauge pieces.

Lora Dumler

Awesome place! Tons of magnificent things to see!!!

Stephen Sadler

I remember when I was 11 and 12 , riding with my grandfather to this museum in his 57 Chevy on the I 76 , lol he would not go over 45 on that freeway people honking, he would say why do they have to drive so fast .The museum was so different back then . He told me his father worked at the round house down town getting the steam engines ready to go out , he had two pocket watches, one a railroad watch and a dress up , they both work to this day, my younger brother has the rail road watch, the dress up watch my older brother has. There was no round house back then at the museum. When we took my mother for her last trip back home, I took my nephew there we enjoyed the museum . If you go to tour the Coors plant in Golden , plan a trip to this train museum. Lots and lots of history, the museum is 10 to 15 mins away.

Holley Doucette

We attended Day Out With Thomas for the second year in a row, it was a very well run event and our three year old had a blast!

Lois Kriegh

Awesome! Lots to see, really nice people.

We went to the day out with Thomas event...I was very disappointed with our experience. First this event is advertised Sept 8-22nd with is misleading considering its only on the weekends. Tickets were purchased for Friday, I thought, only to drive an hour and a half to find out we were there the wrong day. No refund was permitted but they did reschedule us for Sat and Sun we were able to make it. Upon arrival my mother in law is handicapped and we were screamed at by employees to move while another employee was instructing us where to park. Once parked after the drive I thought I would smoke before walking in to deal with the crowd. I was yelled at again and told i could not smoke at my car and would need to go out the gates and across the street. We recieved tickets and service from Beth for train ride she was helpful in getting times switched. Once aboard train we discovered that the train went around the property 4x in a circle and that was the advertised 20-25 min train ride. I was expecting a 20-25 min loop and was very disappointed. Food was over priced but thats usual at these events. However being covered in bees and yellow jackets while eating at the pavilion is a bit much so there should be a warning for families with allergies as well. Our last stop was the Thomas the train gift store. My childen wanted mini trains that were bundled loose. I asked the gentleman sitting what the price was and he pointed at a sign that said fill a box for $18 or $2 each. I didnt feel the need for the box so i let them pick out nine trains and went to check out. Barb at the checkout started yelling at me that they get sold in the set. I explained to her the gentleman said that or $2 each and i was fine with that we didnt need the box and she contined to yell at me then yelled at the gentleman as well. I ended up going back to purchase these after i decided i wasnt giving this place anymore of my money after the way we were treated because my children were upset over the incident and it wasnt their fault she behaved in this manor. This event cost us $180 after tickets and food and souvenirs to be yelled at by staff 3x, chased by bees amd throwing away a $45 meal, and to ride in a circle 4x. I will take my money elsewhere and am so glad i learned this lesson before purchasing Polar Express tickets.

Jesse Wallace

Super fun and affordable place to take the kids!

Michael Laytin

A very cool display of trains with very friendly and helpful staff. They have a working roundhouse where trains are repaired. You can walk into many of the train cars on display. Keep in mind it is almost entirely outdoors so plan accordingly.

Jack Schetrom

Okay for a couple of hours. Unfortunately our visit this time was disappointing. Many of the exhibit trains outside were closed. The playroom that was in the basement of the main building is now gone. The riding train was not running. We were looking forward to having the kids enjoy the open train ride. The miniature train area had only 1 train running on a smaller interior track. There was one exterior railroad car that had toy trains for the play by the smaller kids. The covered picnic area is very good. Great for families to bring a picnic lunch. It is covered so sun and rain are not a problem. Parking is free and right in front.

Doug Palmer

This place is fun and alot of amazing old trains to see. And u can ride one too

Yizel M

Loved it! Wish we could’ve been staying for the opening of Polar Express!

Laura Lerud

If you enjoy trains or railroad history at all it is an absolutely wonderful museum to visit. We spent a very enjoyable 2 hours taking in everything from the model railroad to the fairly extensive variety of real engines and train cars on display that ranged from the old steam engine Challenger, to more modern passenger cars.

Kara Jostes

The Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado is the place to visit with young children, train enthusiasts, and any aged adult. It’s a little bit of fun for everyone. And you can beat the price. The only reason it got 4 stars is I wish the ride itself was a bit longer.

Clark S

What a cool place! Would definitely recommend bringing kids here!!

Jack Jostes

This is an amazing museum. Great place to bring young kids and grandparents too. The train ride is about 15 minutes.

Fanni Fruzsina Tóth

If you love railrods and model railrods it's the best place to visit in Golden

Dillon Walter

Fantastic place! Great spot to go all year round but it's a special treat for the little ones September weekends as everyone's favorite steam-engine, Thomas is in town. It's all ran on volunteers so the snacks and lunch vendors are their own crew but the garden railroad society and all the restored train cars are all part of the day! The day out with Thomas is a 4 lap event around the small outdoor museum. There are at least 4 cars/engines/cabooses open to walk thru, check out, pull levers and twist knobs of. Several hours of exploration for all ages. Very nicely located in the hilly suburbs with some free parking about a miles walk away but also a pay to park lot directly across from the entrance.

Lynn Larson

Polar Express adventure with four grand kids! In pj's with hot chocolate and sugar cookies, rode the train to the North Pole. Perfect evening with spectacular actors and great singing. Fun for all ages and a bit magical.

Marc Montray

Well maintained collection of historical items, and train rides.

Christina Torrez

If you like trains this is the place for you

Kent Johnson

If you love trains it a great place to go

Kayla Escudero

This is a Blue Star Museum, as a military family we thank you for your support! We had an amazing amazing time visiting and could have easily stayed longer than we did! There's so much to look at! The model train area is so intricate, it kept us busy (and two children) for close to 2 hours! We were taken into the back, for a behind the scenes look and were even more amazed! All of the little details could take you days to see! We will certainly be back!

James Tvarek

The Dinosaur Express Train: Ride behind a steam locomotive and follow the dinosaur tracks around the Museum’s 15-acre rail yard and enjoy dinosaur themed activities hosted by Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Dinosaur Ridge and Morrison Natural History Museum. Danielle treated me well as she told me all about this event on Saturday & Sunday, August 17th & 18th, 2019

Marc Maxmeister

Has a few interesting oddities. Without Thomas the train visiting it wouldn't keep my 4 year old busy for long.

B Mc

Interesting facts about the railroad. Nice museum and trains outside that you can see.

devin

Amazing place my whole family loved it!

Sujatha Jaya

Historical place. Some old engines are there and being maintained.

Catie McLane

So, this is funny. A friend was visiting from FLA and we were just driving around looking at mountains, Coors, etc. We passed this on the road and swung around to lookylou. It was after hours but the gates were open....so, being old feisty broads and figuring the worst they could say was "get your senior citizen btts outta here"... we drove on in. We had a great time, just the 2 of us, drove all over the site, took pictures, oohed and aahed and chatted about the life people led at the time. No crowd, actually NO ONE at all. It was lovely, very interesting, the tiny village was awesome. I would imagine its way cool when its open and guides have stories or ??....but for us old gals, it was a treat to wander (in the car!) and get out for pictures. Thank you for preserving history and not booting us!

Kevin Booker

I am so glad we found this place. The kids had a blast.

Jen Neilsen

love it here. my son loves it

Mindy Skinnell

Had a lot of fun on the Polar Express. It was very well organized. There were a lot of talented people who obviously enjoy what they do!

Patrick Kuretich

Tons of fun for kids. Daughter is 2 and had a great time. Activities all year long and lots to look at. Train ride was a hit.

Danielle VanDusseldorp

We came out today with our daughter, who LOVES trains, and had a great time. It wasn't too busy, and the other patrons were friendly. The old trains were well preserved or restored, and the employees we came across were nice to us.

Elizabeth Johnson

We LOVE the railroad museum had our sons 2nd birthday here cause he loves trains and he had such a blast and the families could do their own thing while we were doing ours, just left the food out so they could grab a bite at their leisure, then we met up for cake and presents lovely experience!

Zach Berry

It was pretty cool, but kind of short.

Gregor Y

It's fun, but small don't expect to spend more than an hour or two.

M. Polk

Lots of history and cool trains!

Preston Linderman

Great place and so much history. Ive gone here several times and most recently had the opprunity to talk to one of the employees about most railroad projects going on in Colorado. Como, Colorado being one of them. The Railroad Muesum has been donating rail cars to this small amount of track in the town and has honored me with great respect for the museum.

Rachel Torres

It was such a fun place to go, and inexpensive to visit. My kids had a blast!

Gypsymama 19

If you love trains, this is the place for you

Matthew Goldbach

This place is great, lots of cool old trains. A real walk through train history. The volunteers are knowledgeable about the trains and have many stories to tell.

Mal E

I love this museum always different and the employees are friendly. It's an enjoyable day and it's priced reasonably.

Chuck Dale

Beings the size and a little bit of the romance of the rail era to life. Wish we could have gone through more of the cars though.

S T

Very cool place to visit. We got there just after 4. The main reason I wanted to go was to ride the train, so I was disappointed when the girl told us after we bought the tickets that the last train ride was 3 minutes before. I thought it was odd that it was an hour before close, but I suppose they have clean up to do. It's a cool place to check out though.

Janet Allen

Fun for the whole family. My 3 year old grandson loved it, and we did too. Don't miss the mini train setup in the basement.

Cherie Kohler

A favorite place to bring out of town guests!

Therese Kobel

Wonderful museum. Great experience. Great staff and volunteers. Excellent selections of trains to see.

Mark Buffington

Fun place to take the kids and explore some trains!

Patrick Sullivan

If you find old trains and their history interesting, and like to actually see them up close, give this place a visit

Jeff Lillo

My family loves this place. Model trains running, especially on Saturday and lots of trains to climb and learn about. They offer train rides on the weekend as well.

Mary Catherine Brady

Did the Special Friday tour and our Guide Erik was awesome. Got to ride the train and explore the round house. The cars are beautiful and they have so much history!!

Alice Barrett

This was a great experience. Not wheelchair accessible to go down stairs and the outside model train was not running.

Paul Rosenthal

My students loved walking around the trains and being able to look inside of them as well. Great model train exhibit too!

Jeremy Becker

A true landmark history is in every corner of this magical place.

Bob Anderson

Every exhibit was closed, so our entire experience was walking around the outside of trains. We were unable to go into any cars, or board any engines. Some, including the largest engine there, were roped off meaning that we would have had a better view if we stood on the highway and peered through the fence.

William Guyver

I've been coming here for years with my buddy Michael and have always appreciated the kind and knowledgeable staff/volunteers. The museum is well set up with changing exhibits and events. Michael and I have always enjoyed coming to visit!

Brett McAuliff

Great for the kids. As my 4 year old said “My life has changed!” Also, it’s a blue star museum, so military members and their families get in free all summer!

Ariel

So many great trains to look at. What a wonderful little gem of a museum. Also very reasonably priced.

Diane Marcus

So much history here! Fun train ride around the perimeter so you can see everything even if you can't walk around to it on your own. Nice gift shop and helpful personnel. Many volunteers have put their heart and soul into this beautiful museum. Don't miss the downstairs train display.

Brian Alan

This is an awesome place to spend an afternoon he you have a young child that loves trains. It's cheap, fun for all ages, interactive, and can hold anybody's interest. My son always has a good time here. They run trains every weekend for guests to ride on, there's a model train enthusiasts club that meets here to run their trains on the small scale track, and there's a nice outdoor pavilion to eat a picnic lunch on those nice days.

Justin Wood

We road the galloping goose. My son got to ride up front with the engineer! It was an amazing experience for him. The staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable. There was a photography exhibit on display with wonderful shots as well as a highly detailed HO scale train layout. Most trains were “explorable”. My 5 year old had a blast!

Rob Hitchcox

Epic collection of old engines and nice info boards scattered about. Impressive model railway downstairs in the main building. Train rides don't run everyday so double check before if that's important to you!

Corrine Papak

Super fun for the train lover in your family! Lots of interesting facts, great pictures with stories, HO layout in basement (kinda small) but outside are THE trains.

Megan Camille

Polar express train is very sweet for young kids - I would say 3-5 maybe 6. It’s a fun experience and all of the actors do a great job staying in character. It would be nice if they had real reindeer or made the loops around the museum look different so kids wouldn’t notice passing the same things over and over. Our kids were young 3 so they weren’t that aware but one did notice the fake reindeer. They had a great time and enjoyed the experience. It is a bit pricey but was fun - they give you a gift bag with polar express mugs, bells and a polar express book. So you do get some little extras which makes the ticket price less shocking. Overall it’s fun and the kids and adults all enjoyed it. The train is pretty amazing!

Evelyn Smith

I love this place, we come as often as possible! The only down side is not being able to have our son's birthday party here. Since they dont do that during November and December. Great place to hang out and learn tons of history, having a membership is worth it!!! You learn something new all the time ♡♡

Christina Clause

An amazing place to bring family. It's very kid friendly and the kids who were there seemed to really enjoy it. I loved the experience and would definitely recommend!

Scott Palmer

Very cool place. Run around and explore most trains.

Jeremy Bagamary

This place was Awesome! Not only did our 3 boys love going and exploring, but we loved seeing all of the trains also!

Russ O

It was fun to see the different old railroad trains and cars. Slightly rundown and it would have been nice to have an employee or volunteer down in the model railroad area to talk to. Slightly costly for what was there but the money goes to restoring the trains so it's a good cause

J Short

It almost feels more like a working railroad yard than a museum. The volunteers clearly love their work as they get the collection of old steam engines up and running on a loop around the lot. The space is a bit haphazard and lots of scrap-metal and other lose ends laying around. That’s part of the charm. Don’t miss the model railroad in the basement. I could stand their for hours.

Melissa Garcia

Very informative and fun! Even got a private tour of a business car! Staff was so helpful and kind.

April kimin

If your kids likes train, this is the place to visit! the trains are awesome and the whole layout is a fun adventure through all different types engines and cars. The model railroads are beautiful. highly recommended!

Corinne Anaya

Our second home! Everyone is so wonderful. From the depot staff, library folks, volunteers to the vendors, everyone is so nice and helpful. Very glad to be members. Lots of events throughout the year. Best investment in family entertainment ever and it's tax deductible!!

Max Porter

Great layout and great review of older trains.

Angela rodreiguez

It was,Awesome my son had so much fun at a day out with Thomas

Rachel Cummings

Very neat museum. My kids of all ages all enjoyed.

Doug Evans

This is the ultimate HO scale model train layout! The layout itself covers 5500 square feet and seven to 14 trains operate at the same time. Volunteers from as far away as New Mexico and Iowa come to run their trains and share the greatest of all hobbies with you. Step back in time to November 1976 to see some of the most meticulously modeled freight and passenger trains wind through the mountains, tunnels, snow sheds.

Humberto Cano

Is an awesome place, family friendly and fun!

Adam Fehr

It was great for my son who is 4 years old. We went for the Thomas & friends train ride and adventures & he had a blast. Only thing that would have made it better is if there was beer for the adults.

Perry Midgett

It's fine had a good time

Emmy Fritz

You can go into some rare vintage train cars and cabooses. The model railroad club maintains a very elaborate model town.

Danielle Schroth Sweet Nell

I love this place.. Everytime we visit, it's a blast! Thanks to the crew and everyone involved today, for Thomas the Trains day out, was just the best time

Brennon Lebeouf

Wish the train was open for rides(went on a Monday) but still a great experience. Bring quarters, there's a interactive train.

Daniel N. Hewitt

Fun for the whole family!

Amy Arpan

Outstanding memorabilia and info - and that Polar Express show...wow!

Anthony Raynor

We really liked our time here. A quite large selection of trains. There was even a deer or two running on the grounds. I was surprised by the size of some of the smaller trains who brought items to the miners up in the mountains. Learning items for the kids. You can ring the bells on some trains. Funny thing, just a few weeks ago, we ran into the director for the railroad museum in the airport in Denver.

Todd Mowen

Cool place to stop when passing through. Lots of history!

Dan Hastings

Great place! My boy had a fantastic time with Thomas the tank engine! We booked tickets for the Halloween event as well but due to inclement weather, we could not attend, they worked with us & even refunded me for my tickets! We will continue to support the Colorado Railroad Museum, they have some great people and it’s a fantastic time if you or you’re young one enjoys trains.

Shauna Zapp

Always a great experience! Staff is very friendly and the entry price isn't bad at all. Kids love this place.

tommy martin

Its amazing what has been done here. A real live steam engine

Chris J

This place is great. If you like trains, they have everything from HO scale to the ones that chugged through the rocky mountains. Their polar Express is a lot of fun in the winter, but it sells out in August, so look for the tickets, then. It's right at the foot of the mountains and next to the Coors brewery.

Cher Hislop

Easy to find right off the highway, plenty of parking & a great gift shop. I didn't think the indoor museum had much, but do make sure you see the mail train video because there is a train mail car outside and you will have a good understanding of how the mail was delivered back then when you step inside it. You can tour a lot of the separate cars outside and that is interesting. Other than those things there isn't much more for adults to do. The train display outside wasn't running either. It took only about 45 minutes to see everything, no lines anywhere. If you bring kids, check on the days that the petting zoo is there and the train ride for children runs. It costs $10. per adult with discounts for Seniors. Didn't check for children. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me that day so I have no pictures to share.

Nancy Stephenson

Our 2 year old nephew had a blast, especially riding the train 3 times around the tracks.

diana lewis

Sounded way better on paper. Very underwhelming. Way over priced. Went for the trick or treat day. For one piece of candy at 4 different spots. Train ride, couldn't hear the announcer giving the history. Rode around in a circle 3 times. Not exciting.

Robert Koch

Good start to building a wonderful museum. The working round table is neat to watch. Many of the things I wanted to see were closed for a private party. I expected to see all the trains instead of those not being used by party groups. This should have been made known when I bought the tickets.

Kathryn Beal

The amount of knowledge in those volunteers is astounding! They truly love what they do and they make it enjoyable for everyone from the age 0-99. I took my twin 2.5 yr olds to see Thomas. I also took my older kids 18-19 now) 15 years ago. We will be returning for murder and mayhem tonight and again for the Polar Express in December!

Steven KC Railfan

Excellent Railroad Museum! Lots of neat old trains to look at up close and person and the gift shop is now too! I definitely like the DRGW SD40T-2!

Adam Smith

We attended the Thomas the Tank Engine event on a Sunday, and while the event itself was great, the traffic situation was extremely poorly managed. Uniformed officers in the street weren't communicating effectively with museum staff, and we observed motorists being directed against exiting shuttle bus traffic, causing issues in the parking lot. Staff were rude and actually yelled at a family who had been directed into the lot a few seconds prior. If there was a plan, it certainly wasn't being adhered to or communicated well. We're unlikely to return.

David Gaustad

Alot of cool history.

Steve Sandifer

Super collection. They need $$$ to restore and maintain the collection before it rots away.

Kiana Phillips

Love the historical trains and being able to rids them, and run them as a volunteer.

Melissa Ball

A really neat place for kids and adults. Show a lot of different types of rail cars and engines with a lot of history.

Natalie Millington

It was all old stuff So many memories. I love the big old real trains.

Thomas Gerlick

I will always choo choo choose this museum ♥️♥️♥️

Kalie Mullins

Nice place but trains do not run all the time and that was unfortunate as we were not able to ride a train on a Tuesday.

Heather Sellers

Great museum with LOTS to see and experience.Saw alot in a short time !

Craig Mills

Great collection of engines and cars from all eras of railroad history. Staff is very friendly and willing to chat. There is some serious restoration going on here as well - very impressive. Note that most of the museum is outdoor, so plan appropriately. They only run teams around the tracks on certain days of the week.

Seth Ward

Great museum. Wonderful programming.

Joe Melaragno

It was a fun place to go to to see history being restored and the volunteers are knowledgeable

Kyle O

Day Out with Thomas is great, once again. Thank you!

Pete Colbath

Two of my grandkids and I had a great time there.

Scott Hanham

Our grandsons really loved it and so did we.

Donita Scammell

My grandkids love this place. We all do but they really enjoy being able to get into the trains and see how big they really are

ben uzimakie

Fun place to bring kids or adults. Lots of old trains. Amazing model train set. Usually food trucks on weekends

Steven Serr

Really awesome place. You get to roam around and nerd out over trains!

Aaron Short

I loved this place. The collection of engines and cars was truly amazing. I was only slightly disappointed because we weren't allowed to go inside very many of them.

Tim Cantrell

We went on Wednesday and the trains are totally awesome. I had a one an half year old boy that is train crazy along with boys ages 8 thru 12 and a 5 and half year girl who got in all the trains, and the staff members at the round house were nice. The major strike outs here is the only restroom is at the front and as you can see in one of my pictures strollers can have a tough time getting through the chunky gravel. The museum is not handicap accessible. And the staff are invisible, they dont talk to you about the trains, no one says hi, the lady at the entrance did not tell us anything about anything. No one was there to tell you anything just read the signs. Except the Staff at the Round House, they are Totally Awesome and took time out for our kids. We Had A Great Time and the railroad men at the round house made it the greatest!

Russell Spjut

I visited here as a child and still to this day remember having a great time. We were in town with my own kids and had to bring them here. They thoroughly enjoyed it. The number and variety of trains here is impressive for a local museum. The staff is also very friendly and they made sure we were having a good time.

David Keene

Neat place to visit, but the garden train closed 10 minutes early and we didn't get to see it.

Charlie Wagner

Nice display of motive power and rolling stock. Museum and scale model layouts are well done. Worth the time and effort to visit.

Max Solorzano

A great place. Fun.

Jessica Fischer

Information says the museum closes at 5. Came in at 3:35 and and the woman told us we can’t come in because they had a “polar express ride” starting at 5. She said they close at 4:00 but, wouldn’t let us pay and spend a few minutes. She was very curt and didn’t even apologize for that fact that their door even said open til 5. We are from out of town and won’t be back. But she definitely put the chill in Polar.

Alexis Kelley

My family (4 kiddos ages 8-2) had a great time at the Polar Express at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Very enthusiastic and engaging actors, hot chocolate, cookies, Christmas songs, short train ride, visit with Santa and the kids got a souvenir bell as well. Tickets were a bit expensive, but I would definitely do this again next year. Thank you, our family had a great and memorable time!

William Grigg

Cool place to take the kids/grandkids. We took them while Thomas was in town and it was awesome! Staff was amazing and a lot of fun stuff to do with the little ones

Sarah Call

Polar Express train ride was an experience! The trains were awesome and the singing/dancing was great. The hot chocolate and cookies were awful. Dont go to eat! Go for the experience! The gift shop was amazing with all the train toys you can imagine!

Bobby Gomez

This was a great place too take my family

Robert McCandless

Great experience for the family of all ages! Loved the history when riding the train. Will be going back soon!

James K

The CRRM is a hidden jewel in the West Denver area. I'll skip the plaudits that wax eloquent about what an amazing place this is. Imagine being in a swale between North and South Table Mountains, surrounded by mature trees nearly 100+ years old. The museum has a resource center on trains second to none in Colorado. LOTS of cars to wander through... you won't be disappointed... skip it at your own risk!

Addie G

The muesem was so cool! Nice atmosphere and kid friendly. There were tons of train cars to see and explore. The only thing I didn't like was that there were lots of hornets, but since this was on the summer, I'm not surprised.

Allison Wright

We LOVED this museum! So glad we visited! Next time we are in Denver we will be back! Beautiful setting also! We had planned to be here on a Monday morning for about an hour. We ended up going on Sunday afternoon and I am so glad we did because we spent several hours here! One hour is definitely not enough time!

David Chatham

Great museum of trains!!! They have the oldest working steam train in the west and its #346 and one of the oldest hand powered locomotive turntables in America. See pics.... The people that run it are really nice and knowledgeable about the trains and their history. Definitely a great place to go to for a quick trip out....

Jeanne Tapp

A great time in the rail yard and riding the train.

Christopher Dale

I am UK tourist. I had the misfortune of turning up on Thomas the tank day. Now being single and 60yrs old Thomas does not hold much interest for me. I wanted to see the old historic trains of the western movies etc. I could not get a ticket for that even tho this was my only opportunity. Not really the tourist friendly approach I would have expected. It was $23. Or nothing. I chose nothing. Shame really it looked as tho there were some interesting old trains ad carriages to view

Christian B

Great place to go if you love trains both modern and old fashioned steam powered. Many trains on display that you can enter and look around in. The main building has a giant model train display in the basement. deposit .25c to activate the trains . Go on Saturday on they offer train rides!

Chance Moser

They had a lot of cars to look at but there weren't that many open to actually go look inside. Otherwise a pretty cool place.

Anne Nicholas

Needs work. Could be really cool, with either work or upkeep.

Noah Roach

Great amount of history and education. Loved the free range exhibits that you can explore at your own pace.

Chris Cassels

This place is just cool! The train ride was fun and the team out there is very knowledgeable. I loved the mini town they have built in the basement museum and all the neat stuff to walk around and see.

Scott Nattrass

Can't say enough about how amazing this place is. Wonderful preservation.

Charles Miller

Great place to bring your kids and an awesome train ride also

K A Haislet

This was our 2nd trip. Very disappointed. Many of the kid friendly activities were not open, and admission price wasn’t discounted. Thomas the Train tables were not set up. There was a train table top on the floor of one of the train cars with loose train tracks that had exposed staples—very dangerous for toddlers. Galloping Goose train was not operating and the model train outside was not running.

Chris Dale

Did not allow UK visitors with no kids to have access to exhibits on Thomas day....get real I'm 60

Ash Jackson

Positively start here if you or your little one is into trains. Make sure to go on a "run day" when they're driving one of the trains in the loop of track around the park.

Rachael Kenney

Fun little museum. We live in Golden and are members. Our for year old loves it and spends hours there but if my husband and I went alone we probably would only spend about an hour.

The Dude

A good time for all ages. Lots of trains of all ages on display here. Also plenty of hands on activities for kids and adults to enjoy. Even a big area of benches for having a nice picnic.

Alicia Murillo

It was awkward at first. But once you realize that you are your own guide and you can explore at your own pace. It's quite interesting. Must ride the train at least once. They loop the museum 3 times while telling you amazinghistory of the Colorado trains and railways. This is a must do if you're even remotely interested in CO history

Alex Howe

Not a single train was open! Huge potential though.

Wolfgang Burton

Definitely a great place to visit and take the family and the staff are very pleasant and informative.

David Hardiman

Great place. Kids loved it.

Russ Schleicher

Fantastic place to take the kids and avoid huge crowds of hipsters!

Christen Lawless

Really awesome place to visit if you love trains! Great place for kids and adults. You can walk inside lots of the train cars. The staff are super friendly as well.
