Went on a group tour and I would definitely recommend it. Our guide was pretty good and told us a little bit about the history of each of the five boats we visited. We were also able to visit the submarines afterwards if we chose. I personally didn't go, since I had plans afterwards, but you should definitely check those out too!

Jonny Deville

What an amazing experience! Lots of interesting stuff to see, for a very fair price! Would recommend visiting for sure. Just plan ahead for parking, or use alternative transportation.

Benita L

Visiting the Star of India was very informative. This ship was built when Abraham Lincoln was President. They also have educational programs.

Kai Bynum

Is that a ghost in the right hand corner? No, probably just the sails above... But Loved this ship! It is so beautiful, better than I could have ever expected.

Daniel Taylor

The Star of India is the centerpiece of the Maritime Museum. It is very kid friendly and gives you a glimpse into what it was like to live and work aboard. There was even an episode of The Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures" filmed here.

Kurt Olson

Gorgeous old sailing vessel. This is in about a half mile of the picturesque San Diego harbour.

Joe Jorgensen

Such a special ship

Lisa Henry

Interesting but if you only have half a day, I suggest the Midway.

Matthew Thompson

Cool cool ship!

Jennifer Reinert

Lived here all my life and this is the first time on the ship. Had a great time for my son's field trip. I think going to come bring the hole family down to check it out.

Marc Soller

Remarkable! If the sea calls to you, a visit to this ship will make that calling stronger.

James Griffin

If you're staying downtown, this is a piece of working, living history that you have to see. It's been a while since they sailed her, and, as of this writing, they were still completing the deck restoration. The self guided tour of the ship and basically an additional history of human sea fairing is well worth the price of admission.

Rebecca

Had a great time. Tour guides are knowledgeable and kind. Awesome place to visit

Roger DelCastillo

Beautiful ship for 155 yrs old.

Carolyn Usher

Great place to visit for the whole family

Tyler Ann Sands aka Sister Gramps

Beautiful with so much history loved it.

K Truong

Nice side walk along Harbor Drive near the cruise terminal. It is a beautiful stretch from Seaport Village to San Diego Airport and Shelter Island. It is a great ride on scooter, bike or electric bike. There are few companies to pick up a bike or scooter from, like Lime, Discover (partner with San Diego city), Bird, Jump (electric bikes from Uber). It is a good way to tour the city like Gas Lamp Quarter, Seaport Village and Little Italy. Also there are many places to get breakfast, lunch, happy hours and dinner within 5 miles radius.

Stephen Hartwell

We visited most of the vessels exhibited at the San Diego Meritime museum. It's a little pricey (~$20 for adults,~$16) for children, but we were able to find a deal online. Great history her. The Star of India and Berkeley are both very historic, and have great photos and stories about their past. The Berkeley helped rescue people from the rubble of San Francisco during the 1906 earthquake. And the Star of India has circumnavigated the world numerous times

James deming

Was a lot of history that was still a float

April Gyger

Very cool. Lots of history with pictures and captions..not sure very small kids would enjoy it or people with claustrophobia...good deal for the price

Randal Eggleston

Interesting ship. Oldest sailboat. 21 trips around the world.

Timothy Sohacki

Very good historical museum. Lots of information for those interested in the day of sailing vessels.

amanjot kaur

It is a nice sailing ship ... for exploring

Nancy Douglas

A Remarkable Historic ship! I was just in awe of the history and sturdiness of this incredible ship. WOW! If you enjoy history, then this is a definite must see when visiting San Diego, CA

Rob Ayers

Beautiful old ship. Wonderful museum.

Sarah Szaflarski

Loved visiting and the kids enjoyed it too.

M R

Very interesting sailing ship with an historic past. Entrance to this ship also gets you in to several other ships and a Russian Foxtrot sub, and at a fair price. The Star of India is a large sailing ship, metal hull, that served many years under several flags taking passengers as well as workmen, cases of salmon, freight and necessities to Alaska and back. Naturally well lit on most decks for pictures, it is well worn but still looks well maintained considering her age.

sarah jackson

We've visited multiple times and love exploring this historic ship. Lots of interactive displays and things for kids to explore.

Michael Welsh

Neat ship. Guided tour would have been better. Not a enough explanation of what was there.

Alijon U

Very cool sails. Submarines are awesome.

Mescu619

Great vessel. 1 of a kind

Radu Dragan

Visited with young kids and had a blast. Among the more memorable stops on our socal trip.

Patricia Ramos

What a wonderful experience!

Robert Lino

This is part of the Maritime museum. This is a must visit. Also very reasonable priced.

Kai Castleberry

Really cool to read and think about the history that is built into this ship. If you are a paranormal geek, the ship is supposedly haunted with a teenage boy that likes to play tag. Really cool ship. Definitely recommend!

Brad Leeger

Everything about the Maritime museum is great. I would love to volunteer there to help out with the restoration. A picnic lunch on the top deck of the Berkley has one of the best views on the bay. If you live here, the annual membership is well worth it!

Eilo Betoushana

I love the Maritimes museum. Every time we fly out to San Diego we have to go check the ships. Maybe it's the kid in me but I love imagining owning something like that and sailing. The historical aspect of the ships are ao fascinating and when you go on the Berkeley the museum has lots of great history and stuff to look at. Words are 2 dimensional! You have to go check it out.

Jason Lee

Been wanting to visit for several years now and was not disappointed.. I enjoy ghost hunting so i was able to walk around and my own pace to see the whole ship.. Also for the admission i was able to walk around 6 other ships

A Cheatwood

What a cool part of the Maritime museum. Was so excited to see this ship and to see the restoration and all of the history housed inside of it. The volunteers took some time to help my kids make some rope and learn some various nautical terms and knots.

Tweety B

Cool ship.

Katie Henry

This was such a cool place to visit! We didn't go inside, but just seeing the outside was enough! It was lovely to walk by the water and just sit around and enjoy the view.

Jessie Denton

San Diego landmark with sweeping bay views. great opportunity to learn some history and see the layout of one of these historic boats

Stephen Gutierrez

It was a nice trip back into historic maritime. But with so much other great stuff going on in San Diego we did not have time to visit all the vessels which make up the Maritime Museum. Star of India, the ferry boat and one of the submarine vessels was all we could visit in our time frame.

Victoria Lewis

A great opportunity to experience history in person.

Stacey Anistacia Miller Realtor San Diego

They used to have movies on the Star of India. That was so much fun. I would always take clients that were looking at the life downtown and showing them all the great things to do. #Downtown#SanDiego#RealEstate#StaceyAMiller#Realtor#Luxury#SRES

Nic's Experience

Great! But would have been better if there was someone to answer questions.

Akhenaten T'inshing

One of the best maritime museums in the country.

Scott Betterley

Even my ADHD 7 year old had a great time. He loved the staff wearing costumes and teaching him some history. Thanks everyone!

Alyssa Hope

Wonderful authentic sailing ship. Great for kids and history buffs and anyone who loves the water.

Vova Kovbas

Nice place to visit. I expected less but got more!

Elvis Gonzalez

Nice sail ship. Lots of history. Loved it. Bonito barco. Mucha historia. Me encanto.

Darcy White

Wasn't going to pay to just board & look around, but so glad we did. This ship is amazing and has such a rich history. In addition to touringbthis beautiful ship, admission included 2 submarines and multiple other sailing vessels. Very worth the price.

Lockheed -

Totally cool!

Tony

Great Piece of History!

Kerron Mitchell

We love this place! Of all the places we went in San Diego, this is where we took the most pictures. Very educational, good prices comma and a friendly knowledgeable staff. It's within walking distance of a lot of other fun things: …

Robyn Fuller

My favorite place in San Diego! I love to just stop there and watch the sunset over the water, or look at the city skyline on the other side

Liz Woodyard

Great trip! Kids loved it. Way more to it than it seems .

cody schmieding

The Star of India is part of the San Diego Maritime Museum. It is the oldest active tall ship in the world. Anyone can come down on Sunday mornings at 8am to volunteer and learn how to work a ship. It is labor intensive and very rewarding. She has very well done exhibits and models of lots of ships much like the rest of the museum. She is one of the last touchable pieces of this era and it is well worth a visit.

MaryLou Clarke

Spent 2 hours wandering around one evening. So many things to see, and imagine! Great kids program, and fun to watch. A joy to speak to the volunteers! Worth every penny.

Mary Perat

The most amazing and beautiful ship! And she can still sail!!!

Myra Powers

We took many wedding photos on this ship.

David Todd

Took our grandson for a day of fun. Lots of historic info on board.

Andrew Postert

Always enjoy waking around on the old sailing ships. Submarines just add to the coolness factor.

Tony C

What an amazing ship! I've been on it many times, but each time I learn something new. I love visiting the San Diego Maritime Museum

robert

She's a beauty

Derek Edwards

Very fun exhibit! A little restrictive on where you can go but a lot of good information!

Joel D

Very cool display and well kept up on the maintenance!

Joey D

Beautiful ship with history. Worth exploring this barque, especially if you've never been on a tall ship before. Almost the entire ship can be explored.

Richard Stephenson

Excellent exhibit! A lot of history and well displayed!

Kevin Ady

Loved the living history program

Annette Garofalo

interesting maritime history. some replicas and 2 submarines. you can independently tour all the ships. one price for all.

Semper Decorus

Absolutely amazing museum!! You pay a good price to visit 4 or 5 museums within the same area. I love coming here and just being by the water is amazing.

John DeKoekkoek

Very interesting and knowledgeable docents

Shaney Stapleton

My family's 1st time on it and we had an amazing time

Hollie White

The Star of India at the Maritime Museum is amazing, so much history put together in such a way that makes it fun for all ages! Our 11 & 5 year old had a blast seeing all the fun things on a ship and learning about all the rich history there

Victoria Paris

Fun San Diego adventure day. We have a terrific Maritime museum.

Mike Von Stein

Very interesting ship with many educational exhibits. It's part of the maritime museum. Unlike the rest of the museum, it's very well lit at night.

Daniel Eakin

The most iconic sight in San Diego Harbor. Built in 1863, it's the oldest iron-hull merchant ship still afloat. It's lovingly maintained by the San Diego Maritime Museum and still sails the harbor at least once a year. A proper self-guided tour takes about a half hour or more, depending on your interest level in the exhibits inside. Admission includes the other ships in the Museum as well.

Wendy Rees

My kids have both done the overnight field trip on the Star of India & I Chaperoned as a "Tall Sailor" both times. The kids & adults had a fantastic time (despite the night shift). It's such a great experience for all!

David Anderson

There's a nice pirate ship play structure on the lowest level to keep the attention of kids. I found the story of the ship very interesting, as it changed roles through the years. Good price (I think it was about $13 per adult) for a few hours of entertainment and education.

Janice Pontillas

Awesome placeto take children, teens, or college students on a fild trip to see the historical aspects of life on the sea.

GL Brannock

Great Adventure and So Photogenic- The Star of India sits is berth on San Diego Waterfront. Offering on hands experience tours onboard. Always a great photo opportunity too.

Esbon Paskel

Well worth it. Great piece of history. Well kept. My family loved looking at the entire museum.

Bobby C

It was awsome my kids loved it, exploring the ships and submarines and the museum, I would do it again

Darin Byrne

Love the sheer history of this ship! Fascinating background and cool to walk the decks of this storied sailing ship! This was the jewel of the Maritime museum, for me!

Terry Howell

This is a very cool museum. The ship was built in 1863 in the Isle of Man. It is a full rigged iron hull windjammer. It has quite a history and is considered the world's oldest sailing ship. It has been a cargo ship, emigrant hauler and a salmon hauler. If you are into old ships take a tour and read the history boards placed about the ship. It is docked at the maritime museum in san diego where the are two submarines and 8 other ships which most are open for tours.

Brian Gordon

Awesome ship, if can stay for seeing her at night, totally worth it

Dave White

A must see in San Diego. The Maritime Museum is great for kids and adults.

Emma SW

Great place!!! I went on a field trip there and we did sorta like a re-enactment type thing. It was super fun

Tom Bechard

Cool ships, even an old Soviet submarine. Some of the ship's are in need of some TLC. Only reason 4 stars and not 5.

Dave Swinton

Fun yours and good learning experience for kids

Roberta Pelton

This experience is more than just a ship (both literally and figuratively). The museum is wonderful and each boat is an adventure of its own. Well worth the price of admission.

James Shreve

Great ship. Ton on history, take your time and look at all of the displays.

Shahansha Bin Hashim

Awesome experience as a living history.

Ricardo Rey

One more beautiful place to visit in San Diego.

John Edwards

Great tour, very interesting to walk through the ships and submarines.

David Acebedo

Awesome place to take the family

Scott Looney

The ship is in fantastic condition and makes for a good part of the maritime display.

Drake Robinson

I don't know how they did it, but this book has survived all the world wars and is breathtaking in all the best ways. Great place!

Jonathan Evans

Worth the small admission to see a mix of historical ships and subs.

JM Stumpfel

Wonderful living museum. If you ever get a chance to participate on an overnighter, take it. This place really comes alive with docents 'in character' in these events. You can see the love and care that has gone into repair, restoration and upkeep to this jewel in the San Diego harbor. Parking is metered close to the ship.

D. Wayne Can Tell

Seeing and touring the Star of India was a great experience and well worthwhile. The Star only does a tour out away from the dock once a year, pull the strings you have to and get on that tour if you can.

Dustin Romero

I visited the HMS Victory in Portsmouth last year. The ship was amazing and the museum and dock facilities were top notch, I would highly recommend the trip if you love maritime history. San Diego, while lacking the use of a retired Navy base has a lineup of ships that is quite impressive. The subs are top notch and their collection of sea worthy ships is impressive.

Stevie McLain

It's a great vessel with interesting stories

Liesbeth Gijsel

Star of India is part of the maritime museum, you get to visit 8 boats. I enjoyed it very much!!

Haunted Heather

worth the trip!

Dave Julian

Fascinating to walk through this ship and appreciate the men who crewed on her. The history brought this ship alive. Well maintained and interesting exhibits.

Heshy Kenigsberg

Munir Al-Hussaini

Wonderful experience!

KILL BigBird

Big like really big

Rachel Query

The 5th grade sleepover - what a fun experience!

Eddie Mencke

This is a great ship full of history.

Jessica Bowdoin

Beautiful but a bit pricey (note: must purchase full $18 Maritime Museum ticket to walk on). For that amount, go enjoy the rest of the boats as well. However, still really well maintained.

Zachary Niswender

Such an amazing piece of maine history. This ship is in great condition and offers a wonderful collection of navel and maine artifacts. Make this a must see if you are traveling in San Diego!

Troy Price

Awesome step back into the 19th century. Definitely worth the ticket!

Patrick Leon

Great living history program fornfourth graders. Recruited to backfill a sick crew, the small sailors use the block and tackle to move cargo, sound the bilge, visit the supply store, and make a career decision that seals their fate- for good or bad. Very well done!

Jimmy Taylor

Few like to visit museums, because they consider it a boring occupation to walk around the building, considering all kinds of exhibits that someone considered important. This museum is very interesting because it is an "open" museum "on the water." There is this wonder museum on the waterfront of downtown San Diego. The famous English bark "The Star of India" - was launched in 1863. It is a multi-masted sailing vessel, the oldest ship with straight sails, which is in working condition. It was intended for the carriage of bulk cargo. At one time, the "Star of India" participated in risky "wheat races", when several ships competed, who would quickly deliver a load of grain from Australia to Europe.

KATHLEEN HACKLEY

your able to see how tall the ship is when she is docked next to Harbor Dr is walking area and the make your way into the museum

Christopher Lee

Excellent learning experience...definetly an all day experience to fully enjoy

John Gilliland

A trip back in time and an amazing nautical history lesson.

Pau Andrea Navarrete

It was an amazing experience my son and his class had a great time at this field trip something very different from what we are used to but great experience. Overnight field trip! The staff is excellent we travel to the year 1851

Peggy Hall

This place far exceeded my expectations! Way better than I expected!

Steve Peters

Historic steel sailing ship built in 1863 hauled salmon from Alaska. Inspiring workmanship & sustainably powered clipper. Much larger than I imagined. A nice wide beam. I wonder if they backhauled oranges and tequila.

Christa Galitello

A fantastic place to visit it you have a few hours to spare. The museum as a whole is full of interesting facts about maritime life and the vessels there. And the Star of India is like the shining gem it shares a name with. There are plenty of things to look at, and it took us nearly two hours to take it all in. For such a small fee (less than $20/person) it was well worth the trip.

ChrisD2019

Great Tourist Attraction.

Tina King

Nice to tour and explore at our own pace. Was in good condition for being such an old ship. Lots of information on it's history on board as well as much for the children to see and explore.

Eli Lara

Beautiful hand made vessel

Bruce Jones

Nice ship. We enjoyed touring it, as well as the rest of the museum. Close walk to the Gaslamp District as well. I definitely recommend.

Dmitriy Y

Part of the Maritime Museum. Good history and walkthrough. Admission includes access to submarines and other ships from different eras

Javier Ramos

Very informative write ups of the history. Enjoyed learning today.

Stephanie Oswald

Touring this ship was so much fun! It is self guided so the tour is what you make of it, but I loved the history and attention to detail. Not to mention, this thing can STILL SAIL!! I didn't get to take a cruise on it as of yet, but it is absolutely on the bucket list for our next trip back out to San Diego. One of the awesome things about it was the staff and how they interacted with a group of students on a field trip. They had them hoisting sails, yelling commands, and moving "gun powder" kegs around the galley via pulleys. It was really cool to watch as a spectator roaming the ship separately from them. Love to see historical education is still going strong!!

Rainer Mehlau

Having a guide available for questions would give this experience a 5! Solid enjoyable experience.

Matt L.

Great experience for everyone. Kids often have great field trips here. Nice knowledgeable staff!

Nikki Spurgeon

Amazing piece of history so accessible right in downtown! Highly recommend grabbing a docent and having them walk you through and hearing their stories! They know so much more than what you can just read your self.

Gloria King

We had family in town and we took them To see the star of India at night. It’s completely different experience at night. The boat is a classic beauty and it’s not expensive to take the tour. It’s a fun and different family outing.

Tarek Aly

Excellent museum. Oldest salable sail ship

Сергей Раевский

Many bright impressions from visiting this ship!

Usman Majeed
