We wanted to hit one last museum before leaving LA, and we chose this one. Having watched many episodes of Criminal Minds, we thought this would be fun. We weren't expecting so much material that was clearly "Rated R." There are many actual artifacts from serial killers, and detailed stories. These things were fascinating! What we didn't expect was that many of the walls were plastered with actual crime scene photos of murdered individuals. Most were extremely gory. Knowing that these were real people who had been murdered left us with a very dark, creepy feeling. Some things we really liked were the fascinating details about funeral and mourning customs through the years. There was also a nice, colorful display and explanation of Day of the Dead. There were a few monitors showing videos, but most of the material was reading and more reading. I would have liked a quick summary in a standard format for each of the serial killers (dates, numbers killed, victimology, sentence, or something) so I could get some basic information without reading entire 5-7 paragraphs for every. Single. One. Bottom line: if you like to read a lot, and you are not bothered by real-life "R-rated" material including full nudity and severed heads, this museum may be for you.

I had no idea what to expect going in, to be quite honest. I'm a fan of true crime, however, and that is what led me here. I left the Museum of Death full of knowledge and also a little bit floored by the graphic things I saw, but I'm glad I went. It's $17 per person, and it is definitely worth every dollar. This is something you truly have to experience for yourself, I don't think someone else's account will ever do it justice.

Very interesting museum. My husband loves this kind of stuff. I went with my husband little brother and cousin on a Saturday evening. It wasn't packed fortunately. I suggest bring a pen and paper so you can write down stuff you want to research later, phones are not allowed to be used. A lot of info and creepy stuff. Worth the $17 bucks.

My boyfriend and I came to visit (were 21 and 22) and upon arrival, we were leery because it looked small and we drove an hour to get there. It was SUPER cool. I’m really into that sort of stuff and it was my idea to go, but he definitely got a lot out of it too. Really cool stuff, really friendly staff, and really interesting pieces. I liked that we could read about the pieces on our own in our booklet. We both would recommend it to anyone considering going!!

Very very cool museum. Lots of interesting stories with detailed pictures. If you have a weak stomach I would not recommend as the pictures can be very very graphic. Cool learning experience. The owner spent years collecting all the pieces and you can tell there were so many cool items. Majority of pictures had a brief description to explain them which was very helpful. $17 a person and it was worth it. Takes about an hour to go through if reading majority of the descriptions.

It certainly a place for those who delite in the macabre. They do not allow minors into this somewhat dated attraction specializing in real and recreated artifacts from murders, serial killers and the like. The range of gore can be extreme for some as there are graphic images of suicides, murders and the mutilations experienced during accidents displayed throughout the small building. There is a little of every dark spice including funeral home materials, writings and art from convicts and animal oddities. Though I did see things that I have never seen before, specifically items from the Manson slayings, I found the prices a bit high and the place a bit run down. I would carefully recommend a visit for those who enjoy peaking at the underbelly but if you do not care to see graphic images of violence or nudity, I would skip a visit.

My husband and I went to this museum as our first time in L.A. it was a very nice museum, friendly and knowledgeable staff that greeted with a smile. Signage is great to remind patrons that NO CELL PHONES are allowed out while inside the venue. A few things inside: read prison correspondence from serial killers, see pictures and items that those people owed in their time. Also a great set up as you walk around. Small in size but we spent just over an hour inside reading and watching.

This place is chock full of true crime and death. There's quite a bit to see, read, watch videos, and unfortunately smell; I think their taxidermy is going bad! But don't let stop you from visiting this place if you are interested in DEATH. A warning for families: A group brought in their 14 year old boy and he wanted to leave after seeing some photographs. He looked scared and very uncomfortable while trying to quickly walk through the exhibits on his way out! In my opinion this is adult content.

Snuff videos and crime scene photos. Its pretty gnarly and the staff are not friendly. If you enjoy true crime and you can stomach a bunch of pictures of dead bodies you would like it. I myself thought it would be more science and less snuff. Shock factor is definately there. Also its pretty crowded the serial killer room was pretty cool and twisted though, They have a blanket knitted by the manson family so that was cool. The suicide room made me sad. Also the video of a dude getting executed by gunfire tore my heart out. Being a nurse and seeing things like that in real life give me a different perspective so you may like it more than I did if your into some really graphic twisted things.

Awesome museum! Definitely worth the trip and the money! It says the museum should take about an hour to walk through. However, if you are really interested in that stuff it will take longer. I was in the museum for 3 and a half hours today and enjoyed every second! You can't use your cell phones inside or take pictures...which kinda sucks...but i understand why. Staff was super friendly and they have a cool little gift shop also. I definitely recommend visiting this place!

The museum covers a wide range of topics including serial killers, execution and suicide. There are many newspaper articles pinned on walls as well as death themes decorations. This makes the Museum of Death one of the most stylish museums I have ever been to. The downside is that the museum has almost no exhibits of true value, eg antique. This is more of a themed learning center than a museum.

Keep in mind that this is not for everyone! On that note, this self-guided tour was fascinating and powerful. The collection of items and artifacts are so shockingly captivating. You never know what you are going to see behind every "bloody" corner. There is no video or photography of any kind but you won't need it because the things you see here will definitely leave an impression so immense that photos wouldn't do any justice.

Not a bad spot if you have some time to "kill"! It's nothing fancy and it will cost you about $17 but it shows macabre side of Los Angeles's. It is informative and you will definitely learn details on some of the city's most famous murders. Not the typical touristy spot in Hollywood but worth a stop if you are into the gruesome side of things at times.

Its upsetting to say I was pretty disappointed. I had heard so much hype ahout this museum and decided while I was in town for the day to come by with my boyfriend and check it out. It was a pretty warm day and besides a few fans there was no real cooling system or air flow in the building, adding the body heat of a pretty significant amount of people and it became a little overwhelmingly warm and claustrophobic. I like the concept but the execution (no pun intended) missed the mark for me. I wish overall it was a bigger space, there was so much on all of the walls I felt like it was difficult to really get to see everything especially with the amount of people in the space. I dont find it to be worth the $17 they charge, a lot I believe is likely unique to the museum but the general concept is easy enough to be exposed to if you follow pathology pages on social media. It really seemed to glorify serial killers and gore, and I wouldve liked if they involved more about different cultures and their views and practices on death. There was a bit but it felt really thrown together. Overall disappointing experience, though I do wonder how all of the items were collected. I think it also would help if they did tour times where only a certain amount of people could be in the space per hour. I think it would really allow people to see each piece and not feel overwhelmed by the amount of other people in the small spaces.

Let just start with no parking all of 4, 5 spots give me a break. Took about 20 minutes unlike the 1 hour on the website and most of it was stuff you can see if you go on the internet. Staff was ok if you didn't talk or ask questions. Alot of hot air. Would I go again no thank you.

Pretty cool museum! Bags are not allowed/hydroflasks so they hold it at the front counter. Also, no photography is allowed! There are different subsections relating to death. It can be a bit overwhelming at first with all the pictures/memorabilia, but I definitely had a great time reading the different cases. The museum is a bit small and I wish it was just a little bigger. Like others have said, the pictures can get a little raw and not recommended for children or those faint of heart.

Worth the money. It's not huge but it takes you a while to get through everything. There's a section about serial killers, one about funerals where they play a video on embalming a corpse, a hallway of car accidents and other themes, famous murders, large cult suicides, etc, etc. It's very interesting. Be prepared for really gory pictures. 17 dollar entrance. No pictures inside allowed.

I cried... just thinking about it makes me want to cry some more. This in no way made me happy to be alive (which is supposed to be the purpose) . I felt like I would have an anxiety attack at any moment and had to hold myself from tearing up right then and there. For those wondering, no it was not because I found it to gruesome to stomach, it honestly just stole the life out of me. Perhaps this just wasn't a place for someone as 'sensitive' as me to go to, I am sure there are plenty of people who really enjoy this place but it only made me incredibly sad.

The place is very small and cramped. I went it summer and so it was hot and not well A.C.'ed also. The first few rooms were interesting and there were stories and memorabilia about serial killers. There were two separate rooms with different autopsy videos playing. Also very interesting. The rest of the museum was filled with pictures of brutally murdered people. Decapitated, dismembered ECT. That is the point in the visit that I lost interest. If I wanted to see that stuff I could have gotten it off the internet for free. But because I'm not really into it, it just made me feel sick to my stomach. It's not a place I would recommend.

Such an awesome place!! While you can't touch anything, you are able to get close and see so many amazing things! Letters written by serial killers, pictures, evidence, etc. Very well presented, a fascinating view of death!

This museum was smaller than I expected upon going in, but it definitely didn't disappoint. There are so many things packed into the museum you'll easily spend 1.5-2 hours here reading and looking at all of the artifacts and information they have to offer. There are many different themed rooms, and the gift shop has some pretty awesome things for you to take home with you. I had to go back a second day to get more shirts that I decided later on I wanted!

I love this museum, this was my second time here. They have a lot of different people and things to look at and read about. The only thing I would say is how crowded it is and I would like to see more iconic serial killers such as Ted Bundy, Ed Kemper, the Zodiac Killer and the BTK killer. Other than that the service is great, lots of information, theres always new stuff coming in.

By far the biggest highlight of my vacation in Los Angeles. I'm truly fascinated by the Museum of Death given the fact it showcases the most bizarre things and since you can't film it. It makes sense because what you might find here could make you queasy to say the least. Definitely recommend visiting this place.

I'm glad I visited to get it out of my system but I'm never going back. It's my own fault for letting my expectations get too high. Each of the tiny rooms were packed with people who seemed to be experiencing the notion of death or even just queuing for the first time. Several crime scene photos were displayed without any context whatsoever. They need a much larger space for what they are attempting.

This place was different but well worth a visit. Without giving too much away, this place showcases all things related to death. If your interested in finding out about past cases that made the headlines or you just have a general interest and are looking for something to do whilst in LA then this is the perfect spot. It cost $17 USD to enter. It is located in a very tourist spot and easy to get to.

Really creepy, absolutely worth it. Make sure you take your time, you need an hour at least, two if you want to read everything. Yes some of the exhibits are old, but that should really be looked at as a good thing. You don’t go to the British Museum and ask to see the new mummies!

They had so much detail and all of the stuff in the gift shop, although pricey, was worth the money. It had the one and only letters from many serial killers, and i loved how the room about the cult that drank the punch smelled like koolaid. Aside from the fact that it is in one of the loudest places, it is worth the traffic and heat. Would go again.

We visited the museum because of all the positive reviews. It's great if you like that kind of thing, but I admit feeling a bit sick after the visit, mainly due to the intense smell of air freshener. I gave it only three stars and I feel it's not worth $17. Also, this is not a place for kids at all.

Such a good experience for $17. Not sure if there is handicap access. There were odd steps to get inside. Not many steps though, just a few. I have a muscular problem so I could do it, but with some assistance. Now the experience is fantastic. No steps inside. Just a few areas where you step up. Lots to look at and learn in general. Tons of photos and exhibits. Very organized. Kind staff. I do not want to say too much, you just have to go if you are interested in serial killers, autopsy and mortuary exhibits, historical killings, suicides, etc. Get going!

Super morbid and an interesting look at death and things related to death. People with weak stomachs should not go, though. They have many pictures of actual violent deaths. I, personally, find it cool to see pictures I dont see everyday (such as a car crash or a murder scene) but I know some people night not like it.

Very interesting. Cheap to visit, I believe it was $16 per person. Very small so sometimes it's hard to sit and read about items because it's crowded & people are trying to move through at a faster Pace than you may be going through at. I was also a little bummed that you can't take pictures inside but I guess I understand why.

Over all it was an educational experience. However i do feel that it should have a warning or disclaimer saying how graphic the museum is. I think there should be an age limit. Along side some sort wavier saying you understand that you will be seeing graphic content. I believe it is important to educate people on killers and the type of things that happen, but going in to it I had no idea what it was going to be like and I feel that if I had some sort of idea like a warning I could have prepared myself for it. This place is not family friendly.

If you are a tourist here on vacation I would recommend passing on this (unless you are into this type of stuff and not just trying to kill time... better ways to kill time in LA)

Great place to go if you are in to serial killers and the macabre or if you want to learn about famous events in history like Heavens Gate cult or the Manson murders. Lots of cool exhibits, hand written letters from the killers, videos, and tons of pictures. Definitely not for the faint of heart 100% real uncensored pictures of the deceased. A great place to go and learn about death.

If you have an interest in mentally insane killers and morbid/graphic stories about death and murders like me. Then this place is the place to go. BUT the price is not worth it in my opinion. It Cost $17 to get in and $18 if you use a debit card. You cant use your phone but that is completely understandable. And sometimes there are so many people in one area you cant read as much as you are wanting too even though you just paid $17 to get in.

Very very morbid. Would not recommend if you have a weak stomach but I watch a lot of real life CSI documentaries and enjoy learning about the mind of serial killers. Even then, I could just about tolerate this place and was close to feeling sick a few times.

Pretty macabre but interesting if you're into it. A number of pieces of serial killer created art, taxidermied animals, crime scene and accident photos, mortician tools and other exhibits. $17 admission. Took me about 45 minutes to go through but could spend some more time depending how into it you are. Moderately busy on a Saturday afternoon but no wait to speak of. Small gift shop there as well, but mostly t-shirts and mugs, etc.

It was probably the creepiest yet interesting attraction I’ve ever been to. My boyfriend and I walked in on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded. We couldn’t believe what was in front of our eyes. WARNING for those with weak stomachs, it has a lot of graphic pictures. If you’re into seeing the minds of some of the most psychotic murderers/cannibals/suicides you will def enjoy this. Every room was something else that kept you quite intrigued.

this place is absolutely amazing! If you are someone who doesn't like gore and isn't interested in true crime and serial killers, this museum isn't for you. I also don't recommend this for younger children if your kids are very sensitive to this stuff or you just don't like your kids seeing that typeof stuff. This is a more unconventional museum so don't expect it to be like an art museum. All the information they have is very interesting and informative especially the info on the serial killers. If you go be respectful of their rules.

I really enjoyed this museum, it has a wide range of topics regarding death and murder and there are lots of hidden gems. Very serial killer focused. Give yourself at least an hour to check everything out, and leave time for their awesome gift shop. Parking is limited in the area, there is some paid parking on the street but plenty of free street parking on the off streets as well.

It's smaller than what I thought it was going to be but there is a lot of stuff to look at. Definitely a must see!

A fantastic place to spend and an hour or two wondering around. Bring your reading glasses, because there is a lot to peruse through (but don’t worry, everything is interesting.) A lot of the material is related to serial killers, but there was enough variety where I was eager to see what came next. Though there is no age limit, wouldn’t suggest bringing young kids. Some of the material can be a little sensitive. $17 per person (add a dollar if you plan to use card) and there is $10 public parking right next to the museum, which worked out great in the end, for we decided to walk up and down the Walk of Fame afterwards. Highly recommend.

I thought the museum would be more about society’s views on death, cultural differences in views on the afterlife, etc- just more educational in general. But what it really was, was an exploitation of murder, murder victims, and violence. The entire museum seemed to be based purely on shock factor. Grisly crime scene photos and photos of gruesome murders and suicides. It was like a slap-shod carnival exhibit or perhaps the interior of a teenage boy’s bedroom who just discovered GG Allin. I was pretty disappointed. The place made me feel gross. As someone into the macabre, I think the museum itself was executed in a really tacky way. Will not be recommending anybody to spend $18 on something like that.

Morbid, disturbing and definitely not for evryone. As a museum, it's just ok...they display a lot of items in a very small space. If you stop to read any of the information, you're holding up the people behind you. The display of animal bones seemed oddly out of place as was the display of celebrity stuffed pet animals.....also oddly out of place. (Seems they were able to get these items and maybe figured, what the heck, throw in there) Fascinating were the binders with letters and writings of serial killers giving an insight to the weird mind of a serial killer. (I was as only able to read a few lines here and there because if I stopped too long, I held up the people behind me) I will not go again.....did it, done, never again.

This was such a fun experience. If you’re in LA and want something a little different to do, definitely give it a try. The tickets are cheap and the exhibit is very well done. There are also photos that you can’t see anywhere else. Maybe not for the faint of heart, for there are some disturbing images (which should be expected from a museum about death)

It was smaller than I imagined but by the time your'e at the end of it, you don't want to see anymore. My friend almost passed out and i felt a little uneasy towards the end. Still--- LOVED IT!

Very graphic. I definitely got the wrong end of the stick with this place. I thought it might be more about history and ritual but the vast majority is about murderers and is very dark. Not for the faint hearted! I learnt some interesting things and it is ram packed, but I also left feeling pretty sick and sad about the glamourisation of serial killers. Beyond the macabre.

Heed their warning. This is NOT a suitable place for young ones. The museum is nothing like what I was expecting, but entirely fascinating and entertaining place if you have the stomach for the more grim realities of the world. It's filled with all the notorious crimes from serial killers, mass murders and cults as you navigate down their literal halls of historic, and tragic, moments in human history.

Loved this place! Definitely a cool and ominous place to visit. I am very into the macabre but if you are easily grossed and scared then don’t go to this. There are disturbing images. The price is good $17 per person and there is free parking but it is limited but there also parking for $10.

A huge waste of money. If I wanted to see pictures of dead bodies I’d have looked at them on the internet. Only come here if you want to make new friends with pretentious people who smirk at videos of corpses in morgues and are fascinated by miscellaneous junk plastered all over the walls (like an entire wall of funeral home business cards: WHY? to take up space) The only highlight or actual insightful part which provides more of an experience than could be found on google was the serial killer art, which we don’t when know is truly made by them. Replicate this experience by taking any book/newspaper clipping/ or story from around your house that has the word “death” on it and plastering it on your walls.

Morbid place with cool artifacts of serial killers, suicides, cannibalism, and death in general. Not for the faint hearted, as there are many gory pictures hung around the museum. The only downside would be the cramped space, with little walking room for traffic both ways.

This is really the museum of "DEATH"!!! If you are easily offended or dislike graphic photos, do not try the tour. Very informative on serial killers and tradgic accidents. Multiple items of significance related to well known deaths shown, including musicians, actors and such. This place will startle you!

Warning: EXTREMELY graphic and really not for the faint of heart. There are very grusomme, gory and bloody pictures. It's a very intriguing place and it's a special place to say the least but very intense. Only go if you're sure you can handle it. You do see aftermaths of car crashes, people who have been decapitated, people who have hung them selves, people sawing of others lims. It's freaky, but serves it's purpose. Interesting, and if you're in to this type of stuff check it out, but I definitely wasn't prepared.

Really small but interesting place to see all things morbid and death related. I’ll admit most of the items and pictures inside the museum can be seen online but there are some really neat collections and pieces you have to see. At 17 dollars a person, the price is pretty high for such a short self guided tour. I spent maybe an hour here and that was stretching the time i had inside. They also have a small gift shop with shirts, hats, pins, and other memorabilia. While it’s a bit pricey, if you have the time and money, it’s worth a quick trip if you are in the area.

The place is pretty gruesome and confronting. But also, it’s literally called the “museum of death” so if you’re surprised it’s morbid, then maybe you shouldn’t be allowed out unsupervised. In all seriousness it’s a pretty interesting place, though I personally found some of the content a bit gratuitous. Would recommend if you have 45 mins or an hr to kill.

It is pretty tight and can get warm in there but overall, make sure you have the stomach to view it. This is a museum that talks about death, serial killers, crime scene photos and videos of autopsy procedures. So for the murdereno, it's interesting but if you don't consider yourself one to handle gore or are fascinated with murder & crime, I would go somewhere else.

I've been to at least 50 museums across 5 different countries and multiple states and this one manages to be in the top 5. i send everyone with any morbid inclination here enthusiastically and go pretty much any time i'm in LA. the exhibits don't really change, but going with different people each time makes it a different experience. it's a tiny but extremely well thought out collection with a great gift shop to boot. RIP museum dog, hope he haunts the place now as would be apropos. seriously, if you're at all interested in the morbid, true crime, serial killers, autopsy, mortuary, funerary, cults, taxidermy... you'll love this place.

Very neat little museum. A small building with plenty to look at you could spend easily 2 hours plus here. Not for children or the faint of heart. The displays are done mostly to educate rather then just for shock even though no pictures/letters/videos are censored. They do not allow video or photo so that's why you see only shots of the building itself.

If you have an interest in the morbid and macabre, then definitely hit up the Museum of Death during your stay in LA. There are one of kind items you won't be able to see anywhere and so many different stories and information to absorb. The whole museum is very intricately decorated so there is a ton of stuff to see. For planning, try to give yourself about 1.5 hours if you want to take your time.

This is an amazing museum with memorabilia collected over the years from and about serial killers, group suicides, the funeral industry, prisoners, fans of prisoners, and I'm sure I'm leaving out some other categories. There are photographs, letters, newspaper articles, magazine articles, recordings, possessions, eye witness accounts... you name it. The museum is a bit macabre and perhaps creepy. My jaw was dropped many time during the visit. Go see it. It is one of a kind. We spent an hour and a half there.

It's really Intrusting the stuff they have here it has rooms dedicated to different stuff that in some way all connect to death like serial killers for one thing. This place does not disappoint, I’ve been coming here for years. The prices have gone up and it’s a little small but it’s a self tour so you get to walk around and enjoy. Just no photos or phones on during the walk. Also no backpacks only because they tend to knock things off so it’s mainly just to protect the art. You can leave your backpack up front and they watch it which is cool. Purses are ok, tickets are 17 (cash) and 18 on card. They charge a one dollar fee for cards and they have a really good gift shop. 10/10 would recommend. It’s also pretty graphic so just make sure you’re prepared. lots of serial killer art, and other cool stuff.
