Work related trip. The pianist played so well. And the sound I am impressed.

rob moore

A little off the beaten path, great views from the outside. Diverse, if not deep collection though definitely worth a visit, not crowded and relaxing cafe for resting after your visit. Gift shop a little pricey...staff very helpful.

Lenore Ludlow

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Sublime art viewing experience! Orientation of the galleries is graceful and feels intuitive, even on a weekend visit to the Truth & Beauty exhibit it never felt overly crowded. There’s a wide range of lovely objects to elevate the soul. From ancient jewelry to Russian masters to modern sculpture, there’s something to delight every appetite! Plan a little extra time to take in the views from the trails at Lands End Lookout - the views outside rival the art inside.

Gisela Qasim

I love this Museum, we like to go to special exhibitions. The regular exhibition shows such an outburst of European eclecticism through the centuries that it's fun to go every half a year.

Lorenzo Alessi

The price is very good for the amount of art that there is. Museum is very cool.

Louis Albert Prusa

Phenomenal art museum experience. I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed going to the Legion of Honor gallery. From the curated artifacts to the Rodon sculptures... It's a one in a kind place to spend a day or 2.

Jerry Gordinier

good museum on top of the hill. interesting architecture and a good collection of art to spend an hour or two around.

Darui Jiang

Wonderful experience. We were so lucky to have run into Jonathan Dimmock's weekly organ interpretation. The wonderful music really adds to the art tour.

Ella

Great museum! Very quiet and nice

Paul Crespo

Enjoyed visiting this museum. The external architecture, the interior charm, not to metion the exhibits make it worthwhile. A wonderful place to take pictures. Just one of many beautiful places to visit in San Francisco. Accessible via public transportation.

Madina Aryeh

Amazing exhibition of Early Reubens. Highly recommend!

three sunrises

One of my favorite museums. Beautiful art, beautiful setting.

Maria Quintanilla

Beautiful building, awesome views of san Francisco and noteworthy exhibitions

Javier Nevarez

I enjoyed the Rodin sculptures. Just a beautiful area to walk around by the cliffs as well.

Rod Lee

Good place to see an excellent selection of classic paintings along with great views from the parking areas. We also saw an interesting exhibition of Maharajan jewelry on loan from the Qatari royal family. There's an amazing carved wooden ceiling taken from a palace in Spain and some classical sculptures and pottery. Also an enormous red steel 'sculpture' outside which didn't particularly take my fancy. All in all the couple of hours we were here was about right and time well spent.

Josephine Wong

Great exhibition. Just visited the Early Rubin paintings exhibition. Breathtaking !! This museum has beautiful architecture and surrounding.

Danial Lee

Many Rodin's scrulpture are here. A beautiful building and many people who are taking wedding portraits are impressive.

Guille Valdez

This is a great art and history museum for the whole family. The location is perfect. The view. Of the golden gate Bridge are mesmerizing.

Mara Manuel

Lovely building above the bay. Prepare for cool temps & lots of walking. Parking is limited. Art exhibits are amazing so plan enough time. Membership is usually a good deal if you will visit more than once over a year as major exhibits change.

Brandon Campbell

I wanted to go here originally because it was a world war 1 memorial. But we ended up going inside the museum also and it was spectacular. All of the exhibits were very beautiful. My favorite was the mummy section though! In the end me and my girlfriend really enjoyed our experience here and would recommend it to anyone who is interested.

Yun-jin Kim

Always good place to look around. I had docent tour for 30min and absolutely loved her. So dedicated and helpful.

Niki Huber

Great collection of Rodins... Also loved the free guided tours, very knowledgeable and nice introduction to the collection... Plus can be easily combined with the lands end trail... A must do as long as the weather is good.

Tim Rohrenbach

Love museums and this didn't disappoint. Spent hours enjoying the paintings and sculptures. Well worth the trip.

Seth Hersh

Wonderful public space that has Rodin's Thinker front and center, outside. Didn't know this was so accessible. Grounds are great, too. And a Holocaust sculpture nearby. Definitely visit.

Joshua Williams

This is hands down my favorite museum in San Francisco. Not only does it have one of the original Thinker statues, it has a wide variety of Rodin casts. For a relatively small museum, they have a collection dense with very famous artists. Monet, Rodin, van Dyck, Rembrandt, Degas, and much more. They usually have a special exhibit on the lower level, where you can also find the cafe, which in my opinion is particularly good for a museum cafe. Your ticket includes entrance to the De Young as well if you can get over there same day.

Xiaolu Kou

Small as an art museum but has the typical elegant feeling. Outside the museum, the seaside hiking and golden bridge sightseeing alone would worth the trip. Besides, parking has never been a problem in my experience.

Chris Cox

Love this place, been there many times. Parking sucks, but it's in SF so of course it does.

chiaraines7

We thought we would enjoy the exhibit of the Jewels of the Maharajas but it was well beyond our expectations! Fascinating and beautiful! Lunch at the restaurant was, as always, delicious. Such a nice ambience.

Boris Ajdin

Free entry with Bank of America card several times a year. Great and interesting exhibits. Amazing location. My wife and I visit every few months

Qais Popal

Great museum and architecture! The Maharaja jewellery collections were fab. Awesome views of San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge. A little taste of Paris in San Francisco.

Nikhil Shinday

A beautiful museum with great views and art

Christine Hueber

Loved the Jewels of the Maharajas exhibit and visiting my art friends on Valentine's Day!

Nick Covington

A well curated and beautiful museum, the legion of honor provides a digestible collection of fine art coupled with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.

Sun King

The biggest hidden gem by the bay! It's a pleasant place to get away from it all and relax for a while. The museum year round always has a great collection of art. And for the past years they've managed to get a Raphael or an old master for a rental during the summer period. That's a big testament of how hard this museum works, at bringing you the best art possible.

Mary Rose

Beautiful inside and out. San Francisco's best museum.

Daniel Steiminger

Looks like a cool museum. Just went in for a second while taking a stroll around the park. Looks like it costs a bit but San Francisco Residents can get in for free on Saturday.

Damian Lopez

LOVED IT! The exhibitions are masterful works of self expression. Egyptian Greek Catholic. I was lucky to see the Early Ruben gallery! His art work is so colorful an vibrant. The portraits seem to be alive. A must see if you get a chance. Definitely going back. The best part about it is the first Tuesdays of every month are free!

Romina Muñoz

I absolutely love the museums in SF but this has to be the highest one. The beauty/architecture of the museum it self. The artwork, I could just keep coming back. They also do some of the best exhibits.

Kate Mulcahy

Absolutely fabulous collection of Moghul jewelry! And a very tasty lunch at the Legion Cafe

Short Ninja

Really fun place to visit. A lot of cool paintings and sculptures.

Jaumaelynne Gay

Loved this place! So many beautiful pieces of art here

Leann Hatler

We came here so that my son could do a museum report and the drive was worth it! The onsite parking is free and our admission was also free as a perk of our bank card. I really enjoyed all of the Rodin pieces as well as the variety of paintings. There are beautiful views outside as well as picnic spaces. I would definitely come again!

David Mash

Not a large museum or collection but what they have is the best of the best. Great Dutch collection. And the Rodins...unbelievable. Always a spectacular travelling exhibition. I always make a visit when in San Francisco. Incredible views and photo ops. Not to be missed.

Rachael Sass

This is a stunning museum with beautiful architecture inside and out. We paid extra to see the Early Rubens exhibit and we were glad we did. The paintings are incredible! And huge! Throughout the rest of the museum, there is a lot of beautiful art all very thoughtfully displayed. We saw some Monet, Rodin, Cézanne, and so many other famous artists. They have a lovely cafe with really good food. It's a bit pricey ($18 for sandwiches), but at least it was tasty and we didn't have to leave.

Beck Marquis

I love museums and though this one was small, it's still a beautiful building that you have to see if you love architecture. It's also in a picturesque location where you can get a clear view of the golden gate bridge as long as its not too foggy. If you need a break from the crowds in the city, come check this place out, especially on a weekday. Parking is free here too, if you can find a spot.

Charles Green

Stunning views. Magnificent setting. Great art. All this in wonderful Bay Area setting. Cool, not hot and sticky like valley. No wonder this is many folks favorite city! Frisco is the greatest!! I left my heart in Frisco and most of my money too! Still it's well worth it.

Sorcha Porter

If you only have one day in San Francisco you should visit the legion of honor. It's views and art galleries are some of the best bin the world .. plus free parking!

Valerie Yeakel

Saw the jewelry from India exhibit. AWESOME AND OUTSTANDING. I'm not really a person into jewelry but I was overwhelmingly impressed.

Bon Manhkong

This museum is now one of my favorites. Definitely a hidden gem... Rodin, Monet, Manet and other works of art... Beautifully set in amazing architecture. I like that it's not very well visited amongst the tourists. If you pay for admission to the de Young, you get this museum as part of your ticket. It's like 2 museums for the price of 1! A must go! Parking is free across the entrance. The Thinker welcomes you... I just bought a membership because to see the special exhibit, you have to pay $28 a person. With 2 people attending, I figured I might as well. Plus membership gets you into the De Young which is a bonus.

Jeremy Lloyd

The museum was nice. It isnt too large to do in half a day. The courtyard with The Thinker was my favorite part. The cafe wasn't anything to write home about. Great views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge. Hiking trails and beaches are close so you can make a full day of the destination.

John Sestito

Visited to see the East meets West exhibit. Impressive display, though somewhat thought provoking on the wealth extracted in gold, gem stones to benefit the few. *****

Timothy Yip

A respite an oasis of calm and solitude, especially in their cafe where courteous servers and delicious bistro selections compliment a day by and for yourself and if so desired with a good friend!

Alex

Short exhibit on Early Rubens was very lovely and there were guided tours at 1130 and 1330. The rest of the museum was alright. Covers a wide range of work.

Angie Weinberger

Beautiful location. A must visit in SF. Really enjoyed the East meets West jewelry exhibit. Last time I saw this much bling was in the tower of London

Edwin Flores

Words cannot describe this wonderful place.

Trisha Greene

One of my favourites. Large enough to have lots of interesting exhibits but not crowded or overwhelming

Mark Urquhart

The location is lovely, with views around SF and it's used a lot as a wedding photography venue. Parking can be a little sparse but it's well worth a visit for the quality of it's exhibitions. The cafe in the basement is very nice and the food is good but horrendously expensive. Also when we went, they had yesterday's pastries on sale and they held back the new ones until they had sold which I think is a disgrace, especially considering the substantial cost. Come for the art, but leave and find somewhere else to eat is my advice. (free) Cloakroom, clean toilets and mostly friendly staff.

Matthew Xuereb

have been to many museums and this one ranks at the top, actually considerably better than it's counterpart the de Young Museum(though single admission gets you into both museums same-day). It's not a overly large museum, but it is filled with quality and interesting pieces that made the whole experience enjoyable. Also, I suggest taking one of their free tours as it was very informative and the theme of the tour interesting. Time-wise, you are probably looking at a good 2-2.5 hours here.

Neil Midkiff

One of the Bay Area's cultural gems, with an ever-expanding permanent collection of European masterworks and a lively series of high-quality traveling exhibitions.

Seema Gupta

Beautiful place. Reminded me of Getty Museum.

Byunghwan Hong

Will visit again. Great place to visit and has gorgeous master pieces. Parking is free.

Ken

I like this museum because it's not so big. I don't get museum fatigue like I do in bigger museums. Beautiful setting as well, at the edge of the Presidio. Food in cafeteria is expensive, but it is good.

S M

Fair admission cost, good variety of oil paintings along with marble and bronze bust/sculptures. The exterior design of the building leading up to the entrance is a bit cheesy though, reminiscent of a tiny yet low build quality of the Lourve.

Mary Stewart

My first visit in the Spring was done with limited time so I saw little but decided o needed to return. This past week I spent a leisurely 4+ hours touring each room. If you're able to catch the exhibition of India's jewels, do - it's breath taking.

Maria

This is my favorite museum in Town, it's just beautiful! A treat just to hang out there for any exhibit. It's up the hill -passing a golf course- imposing among green surroundings.

Amanda Cook

One of the best museums in San Francisco- extensive collection of Rodin sculptures and impressionist art.

Philippe Zwick Eby

Phantastic collections, the museum is beautiful!

Sean Barton

Amazing early rubens display.

Deborah Compton

If you are a lover Art History... Plan your day around here..truley exceptional.

Leonardo Danieli

One of the most dangerous place in S. Francisco. In 2 minutes we got our car broken, like many others. Without any serious patrolling in the fountain (main access) area, I wold never suggest anyone to visit the museum. The inside experience doesn't worth it.

Rebecca LI

Beautiful place to enough arts and even music.

Anusha Badathala

This a lovely museum surrounded by lush scenery. The building itself is gorgeously designed and is worth your visit. Many pieces by Auguste Rodin are on permanent display, starting with his famous ‘Thinker’ in front of the museum. Their special exhibits are truly special. I saw the ‘Jewels of Maharajahs’ exhibit recently and it was an awesome collection. If you are interested in porcelain, they also have a large porcelain exhibit. By the way, did I mention they have Mummies? Cause they do. Museum staff is friendly and eager to help. They have free docent tours with general admission and the tour guides are knowledgeable and passionate about art. Remember you can also visit the de Young museum with the same general admission ticket for that day.

Ianna Jones

Not a bad price for general admission. Plenty to look at for $15.

Robert Taub

Went to see the Peter Paul Reubens exhibition. The Legion of Honor Museum, for my forty one years of living in San Francisco, has always been and still is my favorite museum for beautifully displayed classic art.

Sam Pete

So much beautiful art, couldn't get to all of it in one day

Vince Ho

The outside area has a great view of San Francisco, allowing views of numerous famous landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge. The Holocaust Memorial sculptures near the fountain area is very powerful. The museum itself has a good amount of permanent exhibitions on display. Bank of America customers can get free general admission on the 1st full weekend of each month! Just show your BofA debit card and a photo ID. When I visited, the Early Rubens gallery was the special exhibition at the time. Some very powerful pieces in this collection. Glad I saw it. The parking spaces by the fountain are the most convenient but they get filled up quickly. There are more spaces to the side of the museum as well as another lot on the way up from Clement St if you can walk up a slope. There is a decent cafe onsite if you need to grab a bite. But there are plenty of places to eat around the area. I recommend going early before 11am to avoid the crowd. You'll get to enjoy the place more that way.

Patrick Channing II

Water lilies seemed absent, but we had a nice time. The cafe is pricey, but it's the city.

Scott Appleton

The themes are intriguing never too long well displayed with relevant written illumination of the subject. The Cafe is well run with consistancy and quality. Nit to be missed.

Nicholas Erickson

Beautiful architecture, wonderful collection. Members get into the DeYoung as well.

Megan Bauer

Absolutely peaceful walking in and out of the rooms. Beautiful collection of paintings and sculpture, with a very friendly staff and reasonable entry prices. I purchased the membership which was only about $100 (also includes entry for one other person and acts as a membership for the De Young museum as well). Highly recommend for the art lover in your life.

Allen Watson

We went for the special exhibit (early reubens) and stayed for the rest of the museum. We got in free (special day) to the museum but had to shell out $28 a piece for the special exhibit. Reubens was nice, almost 5 rooms of paintings, etc. Anyway, check out the museum - we spent another couple of hours wandering through the museum after the Reubens exhibit.

Na Ly

Huge fine exhibits with a lot to see. Beautiful architecture. Adult $15 Student ID $6

Ken Wilkes

A great Museum, beautiful building, incredible views, parking in SF. A San Francisco classic! Do not miss!

Anna Hegyaljai

They have some great pieces, but surprisingly few on show overall. Much smaller than I expected from the outward appearance and admission price. They also seem to lack a good curator or exhibit designer: many of the paintings could not be viewed properly because of the way the lights were pointed at them, causing a lot of glare. In front of others, display boxes and pedestals are placed where you would ideally stand to view the painting. Staff was a bit rude, and I didn't understand the policy of having to carry small backpacks in my hand. If it was to protect the exhibits, then that would have been less than effective as I saw several women nearly knock into pieces with their bags that they carried in their hands.

Derrick Low

Beautiful building but the permanent collection can start to feel one dimensional with its heavy emphasis on European painting.

Karen Sindir

Beautiful classic museum in a scenic and walkable locale. Special exhibits are rich and varied.

Yoshie Hill

World class museum, superb special exhibits. Membership here also includes the de Young Museum.

Krishnan R.S.

Quiet museum with an AWESOME collection. Specially some cast glass and pate-de-verre pieces are excellent. Takes sometime to see everything so don't be in a rush.

Yu Shin Chuang

I love this museum. Has great special exhibits. A membership pays itself off in just a few visits. Parking can be a pain if you arrive later in the day on a weekend though.

Billie Harland

Truly exceptional, one of the best collections of the work of Rodin on earth.

Mike Herring

Hidden gem of a museum and fabulous views... Bring a jacket

Adam Wilson

The docents were very helpful. The woman working the gift shop at the time near the Jewels of the Maharaja exhibit was very class and helpful. I wish I could remember her name. It was a great experience. We bought a membership that day. We will be back soon!

Wolfgang Smith

Amazing exhibitions! Great food at the cafe!

Brady Mackay

Small, but beautiful! Check out the statue of Laocoon (spelling) and his Sons!

Paul Hornberger

I love this place. The exhibit on Rubens was very enlightening. His portraitures are among the best I’ve ever seen. Subject matter is a bit disturbing. No doubt he’s a master. Recommend the people go and see this exhibit.

Tim Patton

Snap shots of history...from furniture of the wealthy...to great works of art

Nicole Strong

Loved this museum! There are also some nice hikes near by!

Barbara Leep

Fabulous Indian (from India) jewel exhibit to about February 25. Many of them are 350 to 400 years old. Go see it!

Svetlana Nikitina

Lovely museum, they always have something special going on, and their main collection is quite impressive as well. Beautiful setting and surroundings, as well as a nice cafe inside to relax and take a break.

Director Security

Great place to take a date, friend or family, talk about art on an intimate level. Enjoy European fine art from antique furniture to sculptures and paintings. The museum collection includes masters such as Rembrandt, "El Greco", Pissarro, Monet, Ruebens, Rodin to name a few. Theres always a great Special Exhibition to see at the lower level and the porcelain, comic book galleries and historical pieces behind glass in the lower hallway. Go early to avoid the crowds and maybe I'll see you there. I usually work on Saturdays only.

Tu Lam

The legion of Honor is a sister museum The deYoung and Golden Gate Park. If you go to both of these museums to see there temporary exhibits the price of the ticket roughly is $28. To just go into the basic parts of the museum for their long-standing exhibits the price is $15. it is very cost-effective if you go very often to buy an annual pass. So I got the annual pass at The de Young for $119 which emits one person plus a guess. You could buy a family pack that allows for people in annual pass but that price increases. So this may be like a fourth and fifth time I've been to the Legion of Honor. They had their museum set up where the special shows are down the stairs and requires a special ticket. The upper floors has their main collection which is usually there year-round though it can't get rotated with other collections. Do take the time to walk around and enjoy the museum. You can actually get through the whole museum probably in two and a half hours including the special exhibit. You have to be mindful of where you're allowed and not allowed to take pictures. It's especially busy on the weekends of you're seeing a special exhibit it's going to be crowded and parking may be a little difficult. also be mindful of what you leave in the car because there has been break-ins in the area. They have a cafe downstairs and a food is moderately priced and actually pretty good. I'm a very nice day I enjoy eating out in the patio.

John van Bockxmeer

A wonderful art gallery which should be high on your list of you are interested in European art. The building is stunning and the colour scheme reflects the period pieces displayed thoughtfully throughout this two floor gallery. There is an audio guide available and two tours run daily, these come highly recommended as otherwise it is easy to get overwhelmed. The huge Rodin collection is essential and the awe inspiring statues will leave you breathless. Ample free parking and a beautiful vista view towards the golden gate bridge can be experienced outside the gallery.

Bryan Mulvaney

Truly awesome art gallery, and the setting is just as spectacular

Elizabeth Haemmel

Beautiful setting, everyone working there was very helpful during my visit. The guards were especially friendly. This was in December, 2017. If you like art it is worth checking out.

Emily Schueler

Went to view the Mummies and Medicine exhibit for a class I'm currently taking at SFSU. The Legion of Honor is wonderful to walk through, and has much to look at. I've attached a few photos I took during my visit. There is definitely enough artifacts for visitors to make more than one trip.

Ronald Latimer

A wonderful place to see magnificent art and sculpture

Inna Cherneykina

"Early Rubens" - new exhibition opened today and will run from April 6 through September 8 2019, do not skip Legion of Honor permanent collection which has some great French Impressionist paintings.

Nancy Lombard-Gay

I am a member of this museum and its sister the de Young, both are wonderful. I love to make a day of it. I spend time with the exhibitions and then eat lunch in their resturant. It is a bit pricey but the food is delicious and the menu changes with each new special exhibit. Wonderful experience.

JCHV Group

So much culture in one place!!! I loved it!

Bryan Chasko

World class Rodin and Rubens.

Lorna Reed

Anna Spreckels gift to San Francisco, the Legion of Honor museum. Enteringr this museum, you feel as if you are in France. Today I saw the Rubens exhibit and I was transported into another time. Ruben's like Caravaggio was a master at expression and realism.

Mark Crane

Surprisingly deep collection. Lots of Dutch and Victorian works. Lots of Rodin, sone Degas, others

so yeon Pak

On a good day, park at Sutro Baths and hike up to Legion of Honor. It's worth it.

Marsh Gardiner

Fantastic Rodin collection and a lovely building and location.

Christopher Grim

I just had an excellent tour of the Ruben's exhibition!

d s

Great permanent collection. Great traveling collection. Husband and I became members, as we were so impressed.

Oliver Vogel

Early Ruben is fantastic! The guy was a genius. His paintings are beautiful, true works of art. There's so much going on in them, such level of detail, and the way he depicts (high)light(s) is just wonderful. The test of the museum is well worth a visit as well!

Matt Olson

I had forgotten what a nice collection this has. Rodin and a lot of great period pieces. I was really impressed with some of the furniture.... Some amazing pieces.

M C

Nice Museum But Car Break-ins in parking lot.

Frank Hand

Visited the other wing today. For some reason we always go left walking in and can't see everything before we get tired. The goodness for the loaner wheelchair or I couldn't get through two galleries. Rubens exhibit was amazing.

de Anguelo

Gorgeous paintings and statues that amazes even the most critical eye.

rustjupiter

Overall a cool museum. I took my wife, we have a friend who gave me two tickets for free. The museum is full of art from all different periods of time. Some were very moving others simply fun to look at. The downstairs portion is full of gems and swords and different artifacts of royalty. We liked the exhibit, but be warned the down stairs area gets really packed and can sometimes be difficult to move around. The downstairs exhibit is also a one way circle so if you walk last something you can't go back. Make sure to take it in on the first veiw. There is also a less popular ceramic exhibit that many do not care for. Many would find it boring but others would be thrilled to see what's down there. There is everything to see in this museum from books to mummies to sculptures. Some rooms even have ceilings from other buildings. Overall a fun museum.

Ammar Ali

Legion of Honour. The name says it all. Why wouldn’t you come here? The art collection, building architecture and surrounding area are exquisite. The facility holds a grand collection of the great Auguste Rodin which is really quite eye-opening. I hadn’t realised how skilled this man was until you look at the artwork up close and personal. Would definitely recommend a visit as you can visit lands end in one hit.

Anne Tulley

Hidden gem. Great Rodin collection.

Allen Barth

Charming place for a museum in a city-forest combined day trip on edge of ocean.

George Michaelson

Small but beautifully curated collection of European art. Some gems amongst them. Good cafe and stunning views of the golden gate bridge. Short walk to a good muni bus route 39 or 39R to the city heart.

Ray Kuryla

I enjoy going here. Unlike other museums that tend to get a bit cacaphonous, the Legion of Honor tends to have that quiet, "traditional"-type museum atmosphere. I was here on a "free" day that is periodically offered to San Francisco Residents. The museum staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my time there very much.

Joseph Martin

It was a phenomenal show of historical significance. I loved the historical context and information on each piece of jewelry and paintings and cutlery and dinnerware.

Clark Hawley

This is an amazing world class museum. Big enough to house a vast array of art from history making Artists, but small enough to not need more than a day.

Adrees Mukhtar

They are terrible at giving directions for the restroom. FYI it’s all the way behind the rear left corner (around the left as you exit) and you should take the upper asphalt path and not lower. F that secretary with her terrible directions.

Diana Besemer

Parking available but long uphill walk to museum. Staff friendly and helpful. Mughal jewelry display was awesome and for the most part well lighted. One room very dark and gems not well arranged. Did not eat at the restaurant.

Veronica Bolognesi

For an European this museum could be skipped, being used to the artists you'll find in there; I advise you however not to miss it at all, taking advantage of the offer: visit De Young and Legion of Honour with the same ticket in the same day. Saturday at 4pm there areorgan concerts

Gladys Chandler

The most beautiful art & view of the Golden Gate Bridge

Becky Tan

Hosts a number of impressive artwork ranging from the Renaissance to ancient Egypt. There is also an area inside the museum that hosts newer artwork from artists that is always changing to keep things exciting.

Lila Jones

What are my favorite museums in San Francisco. Setting is beautiful. The views are great. It is close to a great children's park (Lincoln Park). Parking can be a bit frustrating as sometimes you need to circle around. The museum itself is a beautiful building large lawns where you can have a picnic. Once inside come with a layout is organized by wing. The special exhibits are usually downstairs. There's a restaurant. The restrooms are clean and watering and have a built-in stool for little kids to wash their hands. As for the regular collections, there is always something beautiful to see: plenty of Dutch Masters, lots of Rodan's, I could have not of impressionist and everything in between. I have a nicely restored 17th century room with original furniture and several other furniture pieces throughout. They also have art from early civilizations. The special exhibits are typically curated quite well and the audio tours are worth it. As with most museums, don't forget that no backpacks are allowed so, if you're going to carry a purse, make sure that it can go across your chest or on your shoulder only and that you can carry it around like that for the duration of your visit.

Julie O'Connor

Good parking. Wonderful museum.

Kai Chen

Amazing SF museum experience. If you are visiting the city, you should give it a visit!

Skot Jonz

Today was the first in the new #freesaturdays for SF residents. SF Freedom marching band performed in Court of Honor , poetry in the galleries, Early Rubens lecture by curator, docent tours. Many first time visitors and ling time members. Great views of GG Bridge and the ocean. Hidden gem. Great place for a fun date. Enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee on the cafe patio. Dee-licious menu with items cleverly named to honor the special exhibit. Last days for FUTURE OF THE PAST: MUMMIES AND MEDICINE if you haven't seen it...ends April 14

Sujan Sitaula

Great place to visit for art enthusiasts!! Great collection and very good employees!! Would recommend!

Kristin Harden

This was an amazing museum. Although it isn't as large as some museums, I actually found that to be a wonderful thing - I saw virtually every piece in one afternoon and had just enough time to enjoy everything without feeling like I had to run to the next exhibit. The folks at the ticket counter gave us some great advice about out-of-state memberships (which saved us a ton of money). The "tour" headsets we're well worth it and the bits of the free guided tours we caught sounded very informative. Even outside, the grounds offer a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and are filled with lovely plants. A must-see for those visiting San Francisco!

Cindy Tsai

Perched at the edge of San Francisco with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and water this Neo Classical museum houses a fine collection of traditional art. World class exhibits come though. There is a nice cafe on the lower floor and parking can be a challenge on nice days but still really worth it! Rodin sculptures and mock French rooms are my favorite!

Kimberlei Davis

Mummies to Masterpieces...worth every minute! Also you get free same day admission to the DeYoung art museum, so prepare your feet! I'd spend more time than one day if I didn't live so far away. Tip- check out a free museum stool at the coat check (just with ID) You can sit and enjoy your favorite art from any perspective.

Ling Lin

Beautiful museum. A bit random set of collections but has broad appeal.

Neha Kapoor

Stunning works of art including Rodin, Rembrandt, Monet. Love the layout too, made it so easy to visit every section.

Brandy Wattles

Beautiful...I needed more time to see everything. Could have stayed for hours.

Matt Miller

Top-notch museum, great Rubens exhibit.

Kevin Jaskela

The location of this building alone is breathtaking. The artwork inside this museum is awe inspiring with works of Rembrandt, Monet, Matisse, and Picasso. Although this space isn't as large as other museums I've traveled to I could walk around these grounds for hours getting lost in each piece. The building itself can be a bit overwhelming with the Doric columns outside awaiting your arrival but fear not and step inside. You won't regret it. Try and get there early as the parking lots fills up fast. Take a stroll along the cliffs and watch the waves crash against the rocks below.

Excellent exhibition of Rubens.

The museum is really cool.. I went there by bus and walked up hills.. the view is great, can even see the Golden Gate Bridge. It only took about 10-15 minutes to arrive at the museum. Definitely worth visiting. The museum buildings is awesome, the collections, such as quite a few Rodin sculptures, and classic pairing from Dutch, French, Italian and American. I love the special exhibition of early Rubins. It was awesome.

Best museum in SF, hands down.

Enjoyed Rubens, The Early Years exhibit. Wednesday mid day was nice, not crowded, cafe had a luscious salmon burger. Yum. Helpful cafe people too (I use a walker)

Chuck Northrop

One of the finest art collections anywhere. Grandly displayed and presented art next to one of the best views of The City

Martin Schlager

Amazing view from the lawn of the museum, while also housing a beautiful interior. The cafe and gift shop is on a separate floor, so it will not distract you from the art itself. The gallery is a good size, and is very easy to navigate.
