The museum was great! The staff and security guards were so helpful and insightful! The artworks were beautiful and there something for everyone, I personally enjoyed all the art from Oceania!
It is truly beautiful. Amazing pieces of art, from paintings to sculptures to plates! They have it all. The place is very spacious, so there is a lot to see and explore. Definitely come if you can!
Lovely museum. Not huge. We loved the children's section! It had a fun activity section with a big wooden ship that my daughter really enjoyed playing in. We also enjoyed seeing local children's art!
Wonderful Museum. You can't really see this full Museum in a day. This is a two-day Museum at the least. There is the original Museum and the new one that was added on and it's amazing just how much art is in this three story building. I wish we had had more time to spend looking at all of the art. I do wish they had had more seating in front of many of the pieces to allow you to sit at appreciate the art
We Love the Crocker Art Museum and always go to see the new and old beauty, when they change the exhibits.
I liked the curation a lot! Most artworks description has an “looking out for” field that points to something interesting to keep me occupied. The “old” part of the museum has pretty interior.
This is oldest and one of the best art museums west of the Mississippi.
Worth the time and money! So many different kinds of art here. Totally recommend it!
An awesome place to take family ,especially on the 3rd Sunday of each month. It is FREE on EVERY 3RD SUNDAY
Located in a nice area with able parking this place is a great stop! Large museum with lots of changing exhibit space and a large dedicated area for children and education. Start on the top floor (the most sf) and work your way down. Friendly staff and fun atmosphere. far the most adorable Cafe and gift shop of any museum I've ever been to, and the food was great!
I hadn't been in a while, so I was excited to go on with a field trip with my granddaughter. We were there to learn about sculptures, especially sculptures of the kinetic kind! It was a blast! It was the first time I'd been into the work spaces for kids, and it was incredibly fun. The kids each got to make their own kinetic creation using lots of fun stuff- pipe cleaners, ribbons, tissue paper, and the all time favorite- Sharpie markers! The staff were really good with the kids. I don't think I could be patient with 30 some odd 5 and 6 year olds on a daily or even weekly basis! Thank you Crocker for the great outreach and education you give the kids in our community ❤
Had A great time here in a field trip
Very nice museum! Used to be a mansion and was converted. They kept the ballroom. It's gorgeous! Kid friendly too. Parking is sparse so figure that out before you go. People were very friendly and the gift shop has cool items for sale. I really enjoyed it.
No docents available for 3 PM Saturday afternoon tour. One, who was leaving, gave an intro and took me to an area of the museum that I wanted to see and dropped me off there...but was probably doing a fakeout of giving a tour. Another left for the day before that. lol I saw 3 docents total while waiting for the tour, but none were available to give it. While walking around, I saw 2 docents giving private tours (?) to two couples. So weird. So, my advice is don’t wait for the last tour...? If you have a Bank of America card, you can get in for free. It’s also a nice museum to visit - traditional European to modern to Californian to African to all types of paintings and ceramics, etc. Friendly employees at front desk, etc.
Pulp Fiction movie night! There was a quiz, food and beverages available for purchase. Fun night so far. I think they could work on the sound a bit. Sometimes the dialog was hard to understand!
Definitely a museum to go check out & worth your admission fee. I spent a little over 3hrs there. It's HUGE in there & it literally felt like it never ended lol.
This is a good museum, but come on Sacramento! We need more culturally significant touristy locations. When to the Noon Year celebration and was a lot of fun for the little ones.
The Crocker always sets up art, music , and movie events to add to the fabulous art displays throughout this architectural marvel !
Crocker is the bastion of art and general cool stuff in Sacramento. No other museum in Sacramento comes close!
Always so.ething going on. Impressive
Don't like the Jeff Koons wannabe stuff, more local artists please!
Beautiful museum combining a beautiful old mansion with a modern building full of Natural light. Great exhibits good, affordable food at the museum cafe, nice gift shop, makes for a great outing and walking distance to the river walk.
Not a huge art fan, but there were some interesting pieces to view. The Richard Jackson exhibit was particularly odd - may want to skip if you have young kids with you. Some of the older artwork is impressive, and definitely take time to go into the old Crocker house - the building is quite extraordinary, check out the size and thickness of the beautiful wood doors.
An important and great museum of the arts!!! A place to bring your family and explore.
The house is incredible, the collection varied. Good way to spend an afternoon.
Outstanding permanent collection. Reasonably priced. Beautiful building. Tons of events and community support. Highly recommend!
Awesome history and a great collection. Beautiful building
What a cute museum. I mean, it really is a cute museum. The amount of exhibits and diversity of styles you get to see on 3 floors of this building is just amazing. I must say that I’ve been to museums overseas and in quite a few here in the States (including New York’s MoMA), and by far this is the best museum I have visited so far in terms of art pieces that are spread out thru a whole city block. I strongly recommend it for art lovers, but also those who might not appreciate art, but still respect what it means to the world.
Go. Now. The art is fantastic, especially the European paintings. I spent 4 hours in here and I didn't even feel it. There is so much to see and so much to learn. I could spend so much more time here. It was a fantastic experience.
This museum has such beautiful works of art! My daughter & I had a great time. Everything was clean & the exhibits were so stunning! The food smelled amazing(we had eaten before we arrived) the staff was helpful. I loved the quaint book store filled full of fun art toys & books & jewelry! And quite a few items you'd never expect! Such a fun day.
The new renovation is absolutely beautiful! I really loved the old location. The classic screens.
I love having an awesome museum near me.
Nice local place with rotating exhibits. Parking can be tough.
It's a unique and interesting art museum. It has art influences from everywhere. Definitely a place I'm bringing my family and friends.
Great place to take your kids
Beautiful museum in the heart of Sacramento! We unfortunately entered just a few minutes before their 5pm closing time, thinking that would be sufficient. However the museum had more exhibits than we had expected. Beautiful paintings. Each one was worth admiring. And so were the other exhibits that were collected from all over the world. We'll definitely be going back there again, next time with more time on hand. Parking was a breeze, right opposite the museum. Staff was quite friendly. They do have a no food no drink policy beyond the first floor.
Excellent museum. A must go.
Beautiful building, full of great displays/exhibits. The old portion of the museum is an exhibit until itself.
Out standing and large museum covering many errors of art in various forms with some emphasis on California art. Highly recommended.
Beautiful museum. Great exhibits, modern art, classic art, sculptures, knowledgeable h helpful staff. Blended buildings with the original Crocker Mansion & a new modern building. So many things to see. Expect to spend aa day if you want to see everything.
The meat feel off the bone was very tender seasoned just right
Beautiful ballroom from the turn of the century, very nice ceramics collection.
Crocker is truly a gem in Sacramento. What better way to spend a hot summer day than in an AC indoor environment and looking at some neat art? It's extremely accessible at $10 per adult entry fee. The ballroom in the old section of the museum is an exhibit on its own (be sure to look up). Also a tip: the food in the cafe is good - it's way above the average for the museum cafeteria tier. Grab a bite there and it won't disappoint.
I absolutely loved this museum! What a gem! I was visiting Sac City from out of town and the Crocker happened to be open late on a Thursday night. Wow! The building is gorgeous inside and out. The collection of California landscape paintings from the Hudson River School to present is impressive. Great collection of European art and modern art as well. Very affordable. I can't wait to stop by again next time I am in town.
A surprising collection of modern art, great touring exhibits and an emphasis on local artists and subject matter make Crocker Art museum a great place to visit. It has expanded tremendously since my first visit. This is a really nice place to visit with the family.
Excellent displays and music. Thank you Crocker, Black Irish Band, Shamrock Club. Irish dancers, the great Chinese wake-up call for the Railroad. Yes....
Old school charm with the Victorian orinigal and modernism with the new museum.
Great experience! Need to plan another visit soon.
I visited with my best friend. We expected to spend an hour or two...five hours later, we left excited, happy and a bit confused as to how a place could hold us so hypnotized for so long. An absolutely wonderful experience. I will certainly return and recommend highly!
Artmix is great. It is awful to hear that the Crocker doesn't support it.
I had so much fun a the place I really like museum's
There are a lot of art collections along with period house furnishing and upscale walls for. A home
For a small art museum, the Crocker never fails to satisfy. The roving exhibits are wonderful, but the real bones of the Crocker are what makes it a place to love. Go see for yourself, and then go back when the sights evolve. You won't be sorry!
Special encounter with some friendly people who would like to know more about Amitabha Buddha and an ancient statue of the Buddha. There are some very well-painted landscape oil paintings.
This is a Great art Museum and show cases everything from fine art oil paintings to installations. You can explore its many floors viewing the every changing exhibits and learning a bit about each piece with the side plaque telling you what its medium and possible meanings are. If you are lucky enough to attend an event like U nite then you may see samples of local film, dancers, musicians, and writers sharing their work. They do an amazing job to make this museum worth revisiting again and again with a chance to experience something new each time.
A great place for adults and kids alike. The house portion is beautiful.
I love this place. Highly recommended
If you are an art lover, which I am, this is a must see. Every couple of months the museum adds new exhibits. There's always something new to see when I go on the 3rd Sunday every month. It's pay as you wish day. On the side of each of art work is information regarding the piece. I'm learning something new, while enjoying a beautiful piece of art.
Great experience everyone should try it once
A bit pricey for a "two hour" visit. They should tell people "three to four hours" if you really want to take it in. I would have spent more time there if I had known this & planned accordingly. They could stay open a bit later...
I absolutely love coming here! I love how frequently the tours are given :)
Lots of interesting pieces to look at, security and staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend going here
Took the kids here and we all enjoyed ourselves. Loved the different types of art, will be returning again!
Went to antiques roadshow here the museum is amazing had a great experience
Loved it! It was fabulous! Parking meters at the front do take coins on the opposite side- facing away from your car (no sign to indicate it though). The side at the front tells you to get an app that’s not available for tourists with a phone set on any other country than The US.( my reason for taking a star away)
If you're an art lover, this place is for you! Explore centuries of pottery, 20th century paintings, and sculptures. You will love this place!!
Sorry didn't hate it was wonderful lots of history there.would visit again.
I love this museum so much. The art exhibits are wonderful... the cafe is ridiculously good.... and the house spins you back in time.
Wonderful Exhibits. I went to view the Jacob Lawrence Exhibit, quite lovely The Crocker Museum also has a great Cafe and Museum Store. .A great place to visit.
A great place to go to see a wide variety of art in different media.
It has a lot of cool stuff to see.
Wonderful museum with knowledgeable and helpful staff. The Richard Jackson exhibit is a must see & is on display until August 2019. Parking may be challenging so plan ahead & feed that meter.
The Crocker Art Museum has a many different activities for all ages. Yesterday was art on the Spectrum for families with children who have Autism, it is an opportunity for children and their families to engage in hands on music, sensory activities and get local community information on activities geared for children with Autism. There will ne another one in August.
Great exhibits. Nice variety. Really liked the thoughtful labels, especially each has a Tip on what to look for in the specific piece. Made things even more interesting. Good price for family membership. Nice cafe for a bite & a rest. Docent tours for groups. Music events too. Easy paid street parking, even on week days, bring your quarters.
This is one of my favorite art museums. It is always a good experience and I feel like I see new pieces each time. There are so many beautiful and varied works. I highly recommended taking a tour with a docent. They are amazing and filled with so much knowledge. I have been lucky to have two solo tours so they were able to customize the tour to my interests. There is so much to see here I can't wait for my next visit.
The Crocker Museum is located just a few blocks from the state capitol, and really only one block off of I-5. Access is super easy. Once at the museum, you will find a lot a parking opportunities, though none of it is free. My wife and I went back to the museum for the 2nd time in one year. On a Saturday morning in August, we parked in a lot directly across the street from the museum. We paid with a credit card, but we also utilized a parking app so that we could extend our stay by adding time remotely. Entrance fees for a senior is just $8. The museum is three stories tall. We started on the top floor and never left. It really was that entertaining. Though we had been there earlier this year, many of the exhibits have been changed. There is an on-site facility from which you can purchase food. It seemed a little bit pricey and the choices somewhat limited. They have a large and very comfortable area where you can sit down and eat. There is also a very nice gift shop. The restrooms are clean. Plenty of places to get a drink of water. Overall, this is really a very fun and entertaining place to spend a few hours at. We will be returning soon.
I love the old part of the museum rich with Sacramento history, a grand ballroom, lots of beautiful wood!
Great variety of exhibits; a must-see museum!
I'm new to art museums, this place was really cool and had lots of amazing pieces to look at. My only complaint is that it's a little hard to navigate since the ways they label the rooms do not match anything on the map they have available. Good thing I know how to orientate myself to a map.
Always a lovely experience. Give yourself at least a few hours as there's so to see.
It's I good place to learn above art and well it is a amazing place
This is a gem of an art museum. The new architecture blends great with the original Crocker house. Great facilities such as shop and coffee bar. Lots of great exhibitions and also talks and guided tours. 3rd Sunday is when you pay what you think is reasonable.
New exhibits all the time.....a great mix of old and new. They have stuff for all ages. Pay for the family membership.....it practically pays for itself. Even get discounts in the shop and the cafe (they have kid drinks and grownup drinks too...wink,wink)
Big museum. A must-see when visiting the city. The shop has unique gifts
The addition looks great the the events are fun and the art is nice parking can be a but difficult
It's perfect if you love art but it's still wonderful
It's nice for old art. Careful of some of the modern art around kids. Why would someone put a 2 foot vagina in the modern art section? "Daddy, what's that?" "Well, kiddo, i think it's some sort of outer space art maybe. Let's move on."
Great independent films are screened here you cannot see anywhere else locally. A prefect date night for social justice activists and community organizers and ethical beings of all ages. Well worth the trip down the hill into the Sacramento valley.
3 stories of absolute beauty. They have art from different countries. Contemporary and ancient. You will need 5-6 hours to cover the whole place, plan accordingly.
Beautiful!!!! You must stop here if you’re ever in the area.It will not disappoint. You get to learn so much and it’s just a fantastic experience.
Went today for the first time and the museum was fantastic! There are so many wonderful displays to see from modern art to 16th century oil paintings to pottery from the Han Dynasty. I was so impressed by the wide array of artwork to see. We had a tour guide who was so enthusiastic about his job and made it very interesting to learn about the artists. We were able to find parking in front of the building without having to walk far at all, and they also have a small restaurant in the building for lunch, as well as a gift shop.
Our out-of-town guests raved about the quality of the museum and the expanse and display, particularly the plein aire works
What a treasure, adventure and jewel. A must go visit when in Sacramento and if you live here...a must to be a regular visitor. The cafe is wonderful; the exhibits mind blowing and thought provoking; gift shop on par w larger metro museums and the special concert series...funtastic! BECOME A MEMBER - THE ARTS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE♡
They are always keeping it fresh.
Of the art museums I have been to, Crocker Art Museum might be my favorite. The art on display is thought provoking and diverse. They cover so many eras and genres that eventually you will stumble across a piece that leaves you speechless. I plan on coming back often!
Crocker Art Museum had the most fabulous display of pottery from around the world I love their layout it's easy it's accessible and it was overall just an amazing experience
Sacramento has long been thought of, by San Francisco travelers to Lake Tahoe as a cow town in the middle of there trip up the hill. Nothing much going on, no culture to speak of. The Crocker is that, culture I mean and has been for a long time. Great traveling art shows and consistently excellent art it's a nice day spent and being walking distance from "Old Sac", it's easy to incorporate both. Occasional events there (wine Tastings, etc) can be very fun.l
A very well maintained museum with lots of art - modern, Asian, early Californian, European etc.. Lots of instagram-worthy picture opportunities... Third Sunday of every month is free and donate what you wish... If you're in the area, it's totally worth a visit.. it's near the capitol building and lots of pretty parks nearby...
Loved it. Not been since the addition. Very impressive
Nice modern art museum. Go on Sunday since it's free. Would not pay for this museum.
This was a fun museum to check out in Sacramento. There are exhibits for every kind of art lover. My personal favorite was the ballroom, which was decorated and restored beautifully. If you’re visiting the city for the first time I would say this museum is a must
Amazing, overwhelming, encompassing collection of California art, I think the largest anywhere! Nice collection also of Native Pottery. The original museum was housed in a gorgeous Victorian structure (1875!) with double grand staircases and a storybook ballroom. The Crocker family mansion is also used for exhibit space. The new addition is spectacular, modern, spacious. I really enjoyed the collection of Modern Art.
Seriously. The Crocker Art Museum throws the best events. Culturally relevant, check! Kid friendly, check! Romantic, check! Great staff, check! Admirable property, check! Food and Wine, CHECK!!!!!
Love the diverse art pieces on display and the people are friendly here.
Lots of art work use to be part of a massion. Great History. They have a deli and bottom floor. Huge place with gorgeous stair cases.
Went with the family on a Saturday and was blown away. So much amazing art. Such a great historical landmark too.
Must visit museum for art lovers. Nice variety of art the three floors.
We went today because there was a festival celebrating 150 years of Golden Spike Days, the joining of the railroads at Promonitory Point in Utah. There were storytellers, music, dancing and new art exhibits. There were a lot of people, but the venues were so spread out that there was never a crowd. The Railroad Society set up a huge layout with steam trains in LGB scale (the big one) in the foyer. The ballroom held a puppet show, storyteller and Vienna Waltz dancers. Other venues showcased Irish dancing, Chinese dancing - the Chinese were a large part of he labor force that built the railroads - Irish music, Brass band jazz, a bagpiper and guitarists. Another area held booths of pioneer activities and cultural club information, as well as various forms of art works being demonstrated.
Art mix is fun It's on the second Thursday of the month. They really go all out on their themes. Always a great time!
Very nice painting, it's a must go if you like vintage style.
Great exhibits and shows, art mix is a must!
Overall, I like the museum. It had a great African and Japanese exhibit when I went as well as a excellent collection of paintings, old china plates in the Victorian era wing of the museum. They also had a cool display on modernist paintings. That said, the pottery section of the museum wasn't very interesting and I didn't care for a lot of the modern art. Pros: - a variety of oil paintings - some beautiful sculptures and china - interesting cultural exhibits Cons: - the pottery is boring (unless you're into that kind of thing) - modern art pieces weren't anything to write home about - needs add more seating - not for kids
The current Chirua Obata show, watercolors, UC Berkeley in 1930's, and Utah internment camp.
This museum is really nice. The energy is good and relaxed. Also, the food was great. We had lunch there as well as touring the museum. Good prices and fresh food. Also a nice selection of wines.
Better than what I expected. Huge ballroom, great environment and excellent collections of arts. Some pairings are very interesting! Tip: 2-3 hrs suggested. More time if you are an art lover.
Amazing museum located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Wide range of art exhibits. Well maintained and elegant. Maximum fees $12 per adult. Admission is free every 3rd Sunday of each month
Always love visiting the Crocker Art Museum! Always great new exhibits and never get tired of the existing ones! Gift shop always has special finds!
Beautiful place filled with many art works. It's worth paying for but they have free entry once a month, you'll find the info on their website.
Wonderful exhibits! The art docent was very informative and friendly!
Black history program was great. I love how they had the bus out front reenacting Rosa Parks. It felt pretty real.
The best place!! Always happy to visit CROCKER MUSEUM!! VERY NICE PLACE FOR CHILDREN!
Absolutely beautiful art pieces, I could spend all day here! I dont recommend bringing young children unless you go to a special kids event, it's a lot of walking and may be boring for younger kids. So many varying types of art, amazing! Plus outside sculptures and a nice nature area.
I had an amazing time at this Art Museum! I went on the 3rd weekend of the month (which was free), and was pleasantly surprised by how large the museum was! Staff was very friendly, and free tour guides were offered. I loved how the art and exhibits were organized as it created an amazing flow through the building. Parking may be limited, but there is alot of street parking if you are okay with a walk.
This is one of my favorite places in Sacramento to go for not only inspiration but for beautiful unusual bizarre you name it. Art from around the world and from past era's. It's great to learn about the history of the previous owners and when you realize at some point you're in what used to be a home the feeling is amazing to see the gems they left behind. Try to see as much as you absolutely can. It is totally worth it. There is also a cafe in the building I had the Hearts of Palm salad and my friend had the Asian noodles. We also added a plate of fruit and a glass of wine a great experience!
Love coming here with my kids. So many things to see and the old Victorian interior is amazing. I can just sit in the ball room all day and just admire the details.
This place is awesome! There is so much to see and it'll take around 3 hours to see everything at a comfortable pace. Make sure you take a break in their Cafe and grab a drink. They have sparkling apple juice!
Looks like a nice place. Didn't get to see the whole thing, we were attending Antiques Roadshow. Parts of the museum were closed since the museum is normally closed on Mondays
Family friendly and surprisingly good art.
A great collection of pottery and much more!
This museum has a decent variety of paintings. Most pieces are of good quality that make a trip to this place a must for artists or art enthusiasts.
Nice museum. Manageable size. Accessible.
Not even the biggest fan of museums but this place was super cool. Great building, unique and interesting collections from different cultures, delicious food. Not huge but very high quality.
Love this place! Every 3rd Sunday is pay as you wish, so really affordable for families!
A very pleasant museum and easy to get to from the train station so you don't have to drive to Sacto if you can take the rail. Crocker has a wide variety of mostly European paintings with traveling exhibits. Much to see if you have the time, including the historic original Crocker connected. Nice cafe for lunch!
Great museum...nice displays... some of the art work suffers from glare from the lighting...we had a great time... please support our museum...
Well-curated collection of local and American art in a Victorian mansion with a modern extension.
I go there almost every year you should bring your family take lots of pictures it's really neat
Very nice art museum. Interesting exhibits and friendly staff
If you’re looking for something fun to do on a hot day with or without kids, if you’re looking for the best masquerade ball in the city, or if you just love art, Crocker is well worth the visit. They have monthly art mix nights with various themes (the masquerade is the best), a fantastic interactive kid’s area with two rooms of themed installations, and weekly events for kids. I’m always impressed by the quartet shows, but the permanent collection is also worth seeing again and again. A sacramento staple, and if you’re visiting, Crocker is a must see.
Exciting museum covering all decades and all continensts
It was a slow day so I got to dance with my girlfriend in the ballroom, best date ever.
Do you often wonder what to do on a rainy day? No more! Go to the intimate and beautiful Crocker Art Museum. Stroll the floors for exhibits of your choice, leisurely look at the art installations, discuss with your partner, or just enjoy quietly. After your tour, stop by the cafe to grab a bite, or liquid refreshment, and watch the rain across the expansive two-story window looking onto the court and the old mansion. A lovely day indeed!
Great place to have a meeting!
I LOVE this art museum.
I enjoyed the event they threw for Black History Month
Oh wowowow this is the best. I live in the Netherlands 6 months /year: THE museum country. But Crocker... i am so so impressed with their collection. Only went three times, and still did not see all. Love rheir earky California collection. Their Dutch/Flemish collection is best i have seen outside of the Netherlands
Beautiful collection! Wonderful artists and works displayed in a tasteful and aesthetic manner with a wide array of styles and tastes from many periods. The staff was well informed and very helpful, and we just absolutely loved being able to explore the portion of the museum located within the Crocker house. Everything was well kept and preserved. We especially loved the the main hall and the entrance!
Great first time at this museum. I will definitely go back.
Not bad. Beautiful arts but need more African art.
I finally had a chance to visit this art museum and was not disappointed. I attended their Menagerie Sketch Night and had the best time. They have a diverse collection of older and more modern art in the newer wing. The Crocker House has a wonderful collection of antique art and family items. I will definitely be going back and possibly getting a membership.
Wonderful art and beautiful architecture in the house part definitely recommend going to that section. Give yourself plenty of time they have benches for you to stop and rest. :)
It was fun. There is much are you will spend hours there.
Absolutely stunning artwork! I could easily spend 2 hours there every visit and not get bored. If you love art, this place is a must!
What a wonderful way to spend a day! I look forward to visiting this fine museum again sooner than later!
We went today because there was a festival celebrating 150 years of Golden Spike Days, the joining of the railroads at Promonitory Point in Utah. Beautiful, well run art museum.
Within walking distance of my hotel, the Embassy Suites, and very close to Old Town. Admission was reasonable $12. Cafeteria and gift shop. Be sure to see the great Brueghel painting.
