It was very interesting, however I feel like someone in software would get a lot more out of it. One thing I was disappointed in was the lack of hands on activities and explanations. For example, the could have had a number of abacuses with simple explanations on how to do specific calculations with them so a parent could show their child how to use it, or some simple instructions with the "on-off" switches so someone could code a simple algorithm. Ultimately, I felt it would be very interesting for someone who already had some knowledge of software, but needed more hands-on activities and exercises for laypeople.

Being a pretty big technology geek, I was really excited to come here. I showed up right when they opened and there were already plenty of people in line. The museum itself is big-ish, but smaller than the size of the building would suggest. The exhibits are all on the bottom floor, and the second floor is mostly auditoriums and classrooms for lectures and workshops and stuff. The main exhibit is "Revolution," which is an extensive history of computers, starting from calculators (like abacus kind of stuff) all the way up to self driving cars, supercomputers, and artificial intelligence. There are a lot of excellent donations, like real super computers and chips and all that kind of stuff -- very cool to see! The end of the exhibit, around more modern day, was less exciting for me, but there is still a lot of really cool information. Speaking of which, everything is really well explained, with enough detail to learn something, but enough brevity to prevent you from wanting to read. I wasn't able to stop in the other exhibitions like the self driving car and interactive areas, but I was mostly interested in the history anyway. Overall, the layout was really easy to follow and very informative! The price is good, and if you're a student it's even better ($13.50 I think). Can easily spend 2ish hours here, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're interested in the history behind the technology that we're all so used to these days!

If you're around it's a must visit. I wish I could have more time but unfortunately had a flight to catch. They have a huge collection and seeing how technology has been evolved was so great. The layout is really well-structured and feel like a travel in time. Definitely recommend!!!

Most of the computers in the exhibit are non-functional. I would expect a computer museum to put more effort into restoring the original hardware to demonstrate some popular software they could run.

This is amazing place. I spent 5 hours walking around and seeing exhibits I could previously only read about. Among the highlights I could look into Cray-1 and see it's beautiful modular system and wiring - true piece of art! This museum is full of such machines! I finished after 5 hours just because my wife reached max acceptable duration of geeking out.

Amazing displays from the beginning to present time. Must see if you're a computer nerd. Not a lot for little kids. Lots of walking but no steps. Spent two hours and didn't see everything. Bathrooms and place to buy drinks and some snacks.

Fun place to take kids but their attention span wavered (ages 12-5) Told it takes usually around 3hrs to see everything we missed the 1401 & pdp1 demo labs section because they were done. Had lunch at the cafe prior-good food and drinks. Gift shop was ok.

Great museum on a unique topic. You won't find another place on this subject with as deep and interesting coverage as the computer history museum. Great Cafe and gift shop, too. Great location. Take a walking tour of Google while you're there!

I am leaving a review for the staff and the event spaces. The building itself is nice and very well maintained. The staff is super helpful. The Hahn hall is almost turnkey. You don't need much setup done. The Grand hall is almost bare. You'd have to do a lot of work in that room. From getting additional chairs to audiovisual to getting a stage. The halls do not have dividers so if you're thinking about renting one hall and trying to run parallel sessions, this may be impossible unless you go sourcing dividers from outside.

You shouldn’t leave Silicon Valley without dedicating a day to visit the Computer History Museum. One of my top recommend places I advise anyone visiting to go to. It gives an absolute eye-opening perspective on how we got to the tech we use ubiquitously everyday and what people had to solve for us to be here.

Every kid interested in computer science or engineering should come here. It's so inspiring. There are all these machines that you hear about in books all here. They even have the old Pacman to play. The exhibits on hardware are the best.

This was the second private event I've attended here. Although I have yet to visit the museum, I can say it's a great space to attend a conference. It's spacious, good climate control and well-kept bathrooms. If you take Google Maps directions, there is additional parking in the back. It looks crowded at the front entrance but head towards where all the Tesla's are -- there are a lot of spots in that direction (even for gas-powered vehicles). And if you're in the market for a new Tesla, swing by and check out the various colors they come in and how they look while parked!

I had a fantastic experience! The 1401 and PDP-1 were super cool, and very interesting. I happened to go during VCF(vintage computer fest) which was was equally as awesome. I woke up at 6:30am and drove about 300 miles round-trip just to visit and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If that doesn't tell you how I feel then I don't know what will.

You really need a full day for this place, there is so much to learn. I just think that the information could be delivered in a more meaningful way though. There was way too much block text explaining exhibits and no tldr paragraphs if you are short on time.

One of the best places to go in the bay area. When if you are not a computer buff, trust be, you will love this place. The exhibits are arranged and explained in a manner that anyone can appreciate and understand. It just gives your a great perspective and appreciation of the evolution of computing and machines that do the job. A great educative place for everyone in the family. There is also a wonderful cafe inside and done nice kids area where they can experiment a bit. Total worth of your time and money.

This is one of the best place to see how computer has evolved . A different ways how IT is helping human being to go to next level. Go to IBM lab and see how IBM old champs worked in past and helped the man kind when it needed. Staffs are also very helpful and explain quite good when it matters. Grown ups will enjoy this place.

This is my yearly pilgrimage given that I have used many of the computers on display... The demo of the IBM 1401 was very interesting, and the two presenters conveyed their passion very well. Holding a tweet worth of core memory in my hand was also awakening emotions!

It's awesome, must visit if you are interested in the field of computer, robotics, graphics n all but it is huge and can take almost entire day if you want to know all the details, they have audio stations where you can listen the history of product in detail. They have created the stations where we can examine the MRI that is a nice part of it. Also they have LAB where we can practically check IBM 1401 system

My how far we have come. This museum - down the road from the mighty G no less, is extremely interesting. Tracing the origins of what many here in the 21st century take for granted, there is a good deal to absorb, however it is done in a concise and easy enough way that even us technologically ignorant folk can get. Bright, modern, and airy building it didnt take long at all to go through. The area is very green and friendly as well. A morning well spent.

Must visit for anyone interested in computing history. ENIAC (it is decimal!), IBM 360, Apollo command module, PDP to name a few systems. It is also the story of many great people not just machines - Turing, Von Neumann, Fred Brooks, Grace hopper and Margaret Hamilton to name a few people.

We went there as part of an activity for a workshop we were attending. As a major geek, I loved it - the invite came on a diskette.

What an incredible museum right in the heart of it all. If you're a technology enthusiast or have friends and family that are, this is one spot you need to drop by in just to soak it all in. The name saids it all. It's all about computers. It's not that big though. You can probably go through the whole place in less than 2 hours. Some hands on, but not a lot. There's old main frames, terminals, and the evolution of the PC and cell phones, which are essentially computers. There's not much else if you're not a big computer fan, which I am. There's a small snack shop, no cafeteria. Free parking. Cost is $17.50 per person.

This place is amazing! It starts out with the abacus and continues on to modern day. The exhibits are all very well put together and informative. I grew up with computers in the 80's and it's exciting to see all that old stuff again and to get a sense of what lead up to that point.

Nothing better than to walk in the footsteps of the great pioneers of computing in the CHM in the middle of silicone valley. Technology has undoubtedly changed everything, and in the CHM you can see and hear from the inventors and pioneers behind it. We took the free tour, which provided an extra layer of helpful details, as well as red thread through the exhibitions. Can't recommend highly enough if you are interested in the topic.

The demonstration of the working mainframe and the demo of the working IBM RAMAC is out of this world. I would travel to the Bay Area again just to see this museum.

There's some really interesting stuff in the museum, and lots to interact with besides reading paragraphs - we especially liked the videos. I thought it was a little too long overall, I wasn't up for all the secondary exhibits by the end. I also think the gift shop did not have the best designers behind the logos and trinkets, I love gift shops but I didn't find too much that I wanted to buy

This was SO much better than we expected. Can definitely spend 2+ hours here with teenagers. Ancient and 19th century computers were amazing, before even getting to the electronic agree. We could have done the hands on area for over an hour, but the museum closed. Just fantastic. If you come to Silicon Valley, go!

Great-great place for tech lovers! Be prepared to see a lot of artifacts, it can take a few days to see and read them all. Kids can understand and be interested from age 10 (depends on interests of your kids and readyness to read and watch a lot of old stuff that can't be seen and touched and used nowadays). Also, they have good cafeteria and restrooms on the first floor.

Facts overload! I really loved the old school computing machines which helped you do basic math. It was also interesting to see the quick progressing of technology when the first home computers came along with tiny screens and hefty carrying cases. Would recommend to any newcomers to the area.

What an achievement. I took my son who was studying computer science so he could experience where it all started and to see the development of technology. Then years later, I took my dad. My dad worked at IBM in the 50s & 60s. The day we attended, an IBM set of "adding machines" was in the demo room. It was his first product. I saw his eyes light up talking about the product & how he traveled around selling it. The docents were excellent.

Nerd heaven! If you have any memories of this equipment, from cathode ray tube computers to Ataris to the first Macs, this walk down memory lane is worth it. If you have extra time and interest, follow the history of computing as laid out in the main exhibit. You can learn a ton. I think most don't take the time, which is probably a symptom of modern life. But if you can make time, it's worth it.

A fun place to explore the history of technology and computers. It's just right next to the Googleplex and easy to access. Especially good for people who have a history of being interested in computers, but also good for someone who generally likes museums.

What can I say, nostalgia if you were born before 1980. It seems small when you first enter but then you will realize very soon that it is huge and has a lot of corners with interesting stories and facts. I went with a dear friend of mine who used to program on bunch card and it was amazing experience listening to him talking. I recommend spending at least 3 hours there, take your time and enjoy the history of one of the best achievement human ever had.

This museum has a mind-boggling collection, everything ever conceived in computing, dating all the way back to the abacus. Three hours was enough to see most everything, but it would take all day if not several, to really absorb it all. In addition to the seemingly endless hardware, there are lots of interactive opportunities, including a computer-programming leaning center, and many seating areas to watch interesting videos. An amazing global explorer let's you dial in to anyplace in the world, your school, hometown, Mt Everest, the Eiffel Tower, anywhere you can imagine for a remarkable wrap-around 3D big-screen view. There's a gift shop with unique items, a small cafe in case you get hungry while exploring, and plenty of free parking.

If you are a 'TECH' person, you must go here. Worth to visit. I will suggest to take a guided tour. It is available free of cost. Arranged twice in a day. Guides are very much informative. Sometimes we can not see, what they show us. Don't go on SIZE or space available. Much more to read, much more to learn, much more to know on every wall, every piece, every corner of museum. Please go early, so that you can take advantage of your money. But you will always have that hunger to visit again and again. Can not complete in one visit. We were there till security person came to us to say please leave. If your kids are studying, it would be great for them as well.

A lot of fun games for kids and a very interactive museum. I thought it wasn't going to he fun at first, but the place was actually very exciting and I'm not one for museums. They also have tours and they go into great detail about the things being displayed. A little on the expensive side for my tastes, but many different discounts are given. The staff is very sweet and generally quite helpful. Nobody has ever been rude there and everything is quite interesting.

Gorgeous, comprehensive, and clean, this well-curated and reasonably priced museum is well worth your time, especially if you were a youth anytime from the late 70's all the way through the 90's and at least aware of the microcomputer revolution. The museum covers everything from mechanical and primitive protocomputers of the 1600's, through the punchcard and tape machines of the 40's, 50's, and 60's, and through the boom that followed the invention of the transistor. Well worth your time.

You can really see first 2000 years of "computers". It is worth to listen your guide, who have a lot of interesting stories. Before going check what time guides and demos start. The worst part is lack of interactivity. Often you look at machine and have no idea what it does and how it works.

The museum doesn't seem that big but there are many exhibits to go through, packed with information and of course artifacts to wow you with the fact how far we have come. This is a fascinating place for someone interested in computer science and technology and even history in general. Probably not so fulfilling for those who don't like to read descriptions on display - you can walk through the whole place in less than half an hour.

How do you realise that you are getting old or at least (and more gentle) older? You go to a museum. You stand in front of some nice exponates and thin fc**** I even have used this staff some time ago and now it's in a museum! The exhibition is realy great and not only for tech or computer nerds. Definitely you should go there if you are around in Silicon Valley.

Really cool stuff on show all the time, from arcane calculators to modern machines. Also amazing souvenir for free (Paper with your name printed and a corresponding punchcard by ancient IBM machines)

Defiantly the largest computer museum in the USA in terms of artifacts. Easily an entire day trip. The museum has a cafe and a gift shop run by very friendly people. Would recommend!

Great place to learn about computer history. Staffs are friendly. I spent about 2 hours here and thought ticket is a bit pricey. May be worth it if you spend at least 4 hours in this place.

This is one museum everyone must check out, especially if you’re interested in the evolution of the many different fields in computer science. The main exhibit isn’t the most up-to-date (but that said, this is meant to be a history museum, so that’s ok!), but it’s incredibly comprehensive and there is just so much to see. Apart from the main exhibit there’s also a hands-on section within the museum as well as one that (I suppose) changes to reflect newer technologies (like self-driving cars!) This place is just awesome. It’s too amazing. Go now.

Amazing! From the front desk to the guide, people here are super warm and welcoming. The guide (I think it was Pat) was a true gentleman and gave superb explanations about each gallery. All pieces seem to be in remarkable great state of conservation. It is a huge collection and if you are into computers, prepare to spend hours on here. Really loved the place.
