REVIEWS OF California State Capitol Museum IN California

Carol L

We were there on a family reunions. Family from out of state as well as local had a wonderful time at this beautiful Museum. We did a self-guided tour and everyone was so happy and to learn more about our California history. My family stayed at the Comfort Inn at Sacramento and had a wonderful time. The hotel was clean the service is great only thing lacking in the food area which is really good was turkey sausage and hash browns. Otherwise it was great.

Shannon & Delia Porter

Had a very educational and fun time at the capital. The grounds are beautiful the building is well kept and managed. Security is tight but everyone was super friendly. We really appreciated the Vietnam memorial. It brought tears to my eyes to see the number of souls listed on the walls. The sculptures of the soldiers and the letter from home was beautiful. The park is surrounded by plaques that have poems written by kids about peace. We really enjoyed this trip!

Thea Green

There is so much to see sand learn about!! It was a great trip!! And, we even were able to speak with an Assemblyman? Would go again given the opportunity

Joaquina Canedo

I was there for lobby day. Met met with 2 assembly personnel and 1 senate. The place is very busy and interesting. There are tours. Great place to visit

wed ding

Very beautiful building and park. Worth a visit. The cafe on 6th has a view of the roof top and dome. The room right next to the governor's office has a very beautiful decorative ceiling. Don't miss.

Ruben Salazar

A beautiful historic buildings in downtown Sacramento. The dome is not as impressive as San Francisco's but it's impressive nonetheless. One of those places you HAVE to see when you're in Sacramento.

Elisia White

I was impressed by the intent displayed here with the fine ladys serving the customers. They were volunteering their time, from what I understand. I believe the proceeds go to support services for disabled children. I may have misunderstood. Regardless, the experience there was entirely positive.

Erik Wrysinski

This is a gorgeous place to visit. If you are interested in how the government is run, you're into classic architecture, or you're just looking for something fun to do near Old Sacramento, this is a great place to be. There is lots of rich history surrounding the building that can entertain for hours. The park surrounding the building is also a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the day.

adrian valdez

We been outside the building and the views and trees are amazing. So clean

Jeanie Abela

A beautiful Capital Building!! Nice to go inside and see the history of California. Lovely area around it. The Mall is a nice place to take a walk, see the rose garden and the monuments throughout. On Sundays the parking is free.

Todd Zurcher

Excellent place to learn some of the amazing history of the state of California. Took the family here while visiting from out of town. I would absolutely recommend this as a stop and get a fun and educational tour.

Jeff Kupras

Walk the grounds saw all the different trees and Peace museum I like the rotundra the best

Russ

The rotunda, the garden and exterior of the building are awesome but not very appealing to most kids. The county displays inside are just silly. Don't forget this building houses the worst legislatures on the planet; a host of self serving pretentious pin heads that are driving beautiful California toward inevitable bankruptcy.

Melany U

We had so much fun seeing the history in our state capitol Parliament building. It doesn't disappoint and is worth the trip!

David James

I very much enjoyed my self tour of the capitol building. The restoration was astounding and the architecture was exquisite. The gardens behind were beautiful, gorgeous roses in the world peace garden.

Ashley Osbourn

The tour was informative but so fun! Megan was so friendly & knowledgeable, which made the tour that much better! The Victorian architecture and lighting fixtures are amazing. Definitely a must see building if you're into historic gems! Lots to see and learn & a great place to bring kids!

Karol Langner

Can walk around a surprisingly large part of the building, and there are some interesting historical exhibits.

Eric Haluska

Brought the fam and had a great time. Check out the pics. There are many interesting things to see!

Jocelyn Pou

Beautiful historical building, make sure you have time to visit all the floors. There are beautiful paintings half past governors, displays for each County, and of course you should visit the Senate chambers. There is a cafe in the basement and beautiful gardens surrounding the building.

Jack Flynn

One of our favorite places to go. We do the tour once or twice a year and learn something new each time. Great tour, interesting county displays, historic exhibits and films etc. All free#

Patrick Pangilinan

Visited the capitol to speak about Solar Alliance and SB288 with the chief of staff(my local representative). I have not been inside since I was a child, but it is very much still the epicenter to our political arena here in California. Gotta love the hustle and bustle of this place because it never ends!

Ralph Rodriguez

The architecture in this building is beautiful. You have access to many offices and committee rooms. It is a great attraction for anyone interested in history or architecture.

Diz Pix

Such beautiful architecture & history. Children ages 11 boy, 9 girl, 6 boy enjoyed our visit! Let them RUN it out when we were done!

Marybeth Murray

This was a great experience! You just walk in, get through the scanner and security then you're free to roam the halls of the capital. Such a great experience!

Gary Searby

Enjoyed visiting the State Capital building. They have preserved the torn of the century offices for the Governor and his cabinet. Very interesting to see how they operated many years ago. We didn't take the tour but will next time.

julisa Beltran

I toured the Capitol on a Sunday. They have small theater with short videos and every county in the state is representated on display in the corridors. Down in the basement near the Ronald Reagan stautue is where everyone meets for the tour. Amari was our tour guide she was wonderful! She was extremely knowledgeable. I dont know how she did it but she was able to keep young and old engaged

Intaaz Joseph

What a beautiful place. Great for walks and relaxing.

Greg Sheppard

Very interesting to see the old renditions of how the Capitol offices were set up. It is an easy place to walk around once you get through security.

Roberto Gonzalez

I absolutely love the feeling of awe that we have as we walked through all of the halls of the state Capitol. I would definitely recommend to whoever comes to visit Sacramento would visit the state capital.

Uzma Ali

Fantastic place. So majestic. Worth checking out specially if it’s a nice day. There is a rose park in the back which is something everyone needs to check out.

Kelly Frasier

I'm here in Sacramento at the Capitol. Re:hunger action day. We the people have a voice. Stomping out hunger. I'm so blessed to be here

Yarenni Lopez

Amazing museum! Great displays of California's counties and offices!

Ashlynn Lewis

California’s capitol is quite large and can be confusing to navigate as many of its walkways look exactly the same. However, it’s always nice to stop to take in some history and this place is just right off the I-5 for road trip convenience.

Rio Petersen

I appreciate how they made going here free to the public. There is tight security when you enter, so the location does feel safe and secure. Inside there are multiple exhibits, and there are also offices where meetings are held. The interior of this building is beautiful, vast open spaces, old architecture, tiles, the place is tidy and beautifully constructed. A great place to view part of California’s history.

Nils-Michael

Being in the halls of government is always exciting. Meeting directly with our elected representatives remind me of how brilliant our democracy was envisioned centuries ago. The old part of the Capitol is a stunning architectural treat. The new building, not so much. Nevertheless, this is where our society is imagined and brought to life. Do yourself a favor and go. Drop in to say hello to your assembly member or state senator. Let them know you care. They appreciate the connection.

Josh Dix

Nice place to see some of our state history and drive into some of the inner workings of the state regardless of your political affiliations. Plus the architecture can't be beat! It's quite the beautiful building! Also make sure to check what entrance is actually open before hand because getting inside can be a bit tricky.

Pradeep Khatri

This building seems to be combination of museum and active assembly. Every county has tried to display things (show case) which are famous in respective counties. People can visit senate and other assemblies. Good thing is that is open on Saturday as well. There is a small gift shop as well.

Jern Martz

Beautiful!!!! Full of history! I wow me my family had a great evening Thank you you all for keeping the area clean organized

Cheritha Kennedy

The capital is a truly beautiful setting and environment for information. I went to support my union but got a glimpse of all the other counties that rely on California's legislators ability to take care of its people. I enjoyed the sights. Its a living museum. But honestly it feels like a reminder of how ineffective the law makers were and why the people suffered so much because of them. If you haven't been to the capital, go to see where California has been. But go back to the capital to help see it through the future. Our beliefs should be challenged every time we have disagreements. How will you know ifour beliefs will stand the test of time if no one ever thinks it could fail. Our better selves is found in failure. Success is elusive and misleading. Pride can and has blinded before.

Patricia Fenton

Those that work here are extremely LUCKY. This place is amazing

Kenneth Weaver

The museum is very nice. Visited it while touring California. But the capital while being beautiful has 4 approx 10 ft signs hanging below the dome catering to approx 1% of the population pushing the agenda for transgender etc. Ok for this but does not belong in this place. Also, many never ending protests outside of capital.

Sebastian I. Lagunas

Great and very informative tour, 1 hr long you get to see the whole place and learn a lot.

apmarketingdevelop

Very rustic, not in the top ten of Capital Buildings and I've only seen 4.

Crystal Jensen

I have visited many state capitals including the nation’s capital in Washington DC. None compare to the beautiful restoration of California’s capital in Sacramento. The woodwork alone is worth the trip. There are offices restored back to the 1800’s, awesome tike work on the floor portraying the great seal of California, amazing ceiling work and much much more. I’ve always made it a point to take visitors there and they love it too. Best part it’s free!

Mickey Sidhu

Nice buildings to look at and many events are held there just check local website to find out whats taking place prior to event

Camila Sandoval

I definitely didn't expect to found inside it such a beautiful architecture and features in this place. Although it's cultural content is very important and enriches, I was involved in its walls and halls, specially in the main hall which has a enormous dome. Really happy to have made an stop there

Fleetfoot S

This place is gorgeous. It might not be as well-regarded as other state capitols, but the interior is very well-preserved, with high ceilings, tasteful art, and maintains an old-timey colonial building feel about it.

R Rodríguez

It was such cool experience. Out of a small conversation with one of the stuff we got a quick private tour around the governor's office. Really nice and friendly staff.

Todd O'Neill

Love seeing each and every county represented. Of course, you have to find your own county's exhibit. Afterward, check out the beautiful architecture of the capital building. The rotunda is awe-inspiring. The view of the the Capital Mall through the decadent double-doors is breathtaking. The historically replicated Governor's office is a must-see for any history enthusiast.

Joseph Bonhage

Had a great time exploring at the Capital building. Guided tours are available. We just walked around on our own. Parking can be difficult (see picture). Plan for a little extra time and about $15 for parking. It may be easier to park blocks away and walk the rest of the way.

Cliff Baillie

Excellent place to spend a couple of hours. Staff there were really friendly

Lew

If you are in Sacramento you gotta get by and see the State Capitol. Take some time and walk through Capitol park first then finish up with the Capital building tour. The tours are hourly and you sign up in the basement, however if you see one in progress the tour guides will usually let you join in.

Mike

It is being remodeled right now. The county displays are pretty cool.

Richard Bernhardt

California has a wonderful Capitol building and it is well worth a visit. Check out the building the wonderful Capitol rotunda, county seat exhibits, and many museum places. Visit a legislator. Take a picture with the bear at the governors office.

Tammy Nava

If you have friends/family visiting you should totally bring then to the capital. It's free to visit inside and see the historical offices and furniture and how they built it. Really really cool. You will have to go through a security check to get in

Josh Lancaster

Fun place to go. Lots of exhibits and historical information. You can explore much of the building. Alot of staff happy to answer questions. If the legislature is in session, you can go to the gallery and watch them "work." Very interesting.

Lily Yee

It's a lovely historic building with lots of architectural beauty and current political significance. But not too many exhibits and not great for young kids. Our tour guide was pretty grouchy, maybe b/c of the hot weather?

John H

Love the history and architecture. Take a tour and then explore the building and grounds on your own

Kelly Davis

Fascinating place, and so old! 150 year anniversary this year. Amazing!

Jabbar T

HI NAME IS URFAN HAQ THEEKRI THE CALIFORNIA STATE CAPITOL ON L STREET SIDE IN THE PILLERS HAVE $20 DOLLAR BILLS FULL INSIDE THE PILLARS NO JOKE REAL TALK & ALSO MY MOTOR CADE IS IN THE BASEMINT WITH ORANGE BOOT AROUND THE WHEEL

Shaun Edwards

Currently under renovations but will be nice nice when it’s done.

Nathaniel Pyron

In my opinion, things are going in the right direction and its 21 AUG 2019. We should embrace the active duty and veterans because they signed that dotted line for the United States.

James Starr

Did the night tour of the Sacramento Underground and had a great time. Recommend this tour to everyone. It is adults only, so very colorful, but tasteful representation of California in its earlier days.

Brad Bailey

Decent tourist destination and the capital building is huge. Inside the old wing is now mostly the museum section. Up the elevator or any of the grand staircases ate the Senate and House Chambers. Sometimes one or both are open to public and sometimes not open if in session. Capital has a newer wing with more modern feel now in use for officials offices. Here is outer door for governor's office which is a popular spot for a selfie. New wing hallways you will find displays for each county in California. I enjoy these however many of them are becoming quite old and run down appearing to have been forgotten by The counties represented. Outside the capital is a very mature park with paths and numerous monuments and memorials that are well worth seeing. Generally head towards far end of park and see these on the walk. Trees are massive examples very well cared for. When you are done at capital try the Sacramento history museum 11 blocks to the west in old Sacramento (just north of the yellow bridge three blocks).

Eric Young

If you're ever in Sacramento, I hope you get the chance to see and of course walk the gardens surrounding the State House. Such a lovely park. Beautifully maintained and serene. A wonderful place to stroll with family, friends or that special someone, or just by yourself.

Boone Dog

Great tour by Isabella! Beautiful building.

Summer worsham

Always a pleasure to visit and have the opportunity to advocate for my fellow fosters!

Ana Duran

Good place to learn about politics. I was happy they let me go in with my cup of coffee (with a lit) because I went early in the morning.

Lawrence Thai

This is such a beautiful and notable place to come to while in Sacremento. This is probably why everyone even visits Sacremento, because of this building or what is going on in this building. The tours that go on in this building are extremely helpful as the passionate and charismatic tour guides are so informative and help to ask any questions you have about anything going on in this building. Every time I take a tour here, I am always surprised at some of the facts I receive that I didn't receive before. They also let me know that the architects and artists have left multiple "mistakes" to act as signatures of their work as well as to give attendees the chore of looking for every single one. All and all, this is a must visit if you live in California because of what this building represents to the American people. There is so much history here.

Maria valadez

I have never been thier for the first time being thier I loved it and enjoy it.

Trena DavisEdgley

SEIU 1000 is the voice for the service workers of the state employees. They are the voice of over 2k California's working class. (Got to love the free bees

Emmanuel Limaco

The State Capitol building of California is one of the nation's busiest. There's always something going on outside, protests rallies and whatnot. But don't let that deter you from visiting the building and taking the tour. There's a lot of history to be learned here, and opportunity to meet those who chose to represent the 39 million souls currently living in the state. Plenty of restaurants surrounding the Capitol, and definitely check out the huge Rose Garden.

Miguel Navarrete

Awesome place for a family trip! Took the kids. You can walk around and see the entire building. You can sit quietly in sessions if they are going on. You can visit your representatives if they are available. A lot of historical information throughout the building.

Kedar Saraswate

Excellent architecture and Lots of American History. The best part is you can watch live Senate session. You can also walk along Capitol Mall road if weather is good.

Vanessa Kay Barron

This was a very exciting trip/ I think that everyone in the state of California should visit the capitol at least once in a lifetime. There are exhibits for every county in the state. There is also a gift shop and cafeteria. Be sure to put it on your bucket list, it is sure not to disappoint.

Johnny Chang

Love the staff & historical information provided here. A hidden gem under the Capital.

Gabbie Ubario

It was an awesome experience! Time done event really opened up my eyes!

Billie Tircuit Johnson

Can't beat a free tour learning about our State's history. The tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic which made the tour fly by. Great photographic opportunities and so much more. Looking forward to visiting again.

Cassie Lee

It was amazing to see the museum! The rooms are like time vaults and definitely a must see!

Yelena Udler

Love love love state capitol tours. This one was led by a very knowledgeable guide and has beautiful gardens outside as well. They were even more impressive than the building. Capitol grounds include trees from all over the world and are tagged as such like museum exhibits.

Tilahun Worku

Here all things are well kept. I am so happy that my visiting this area. I was may families and friends to visit this attractive area. You can visit this place and check out how much the American people and the Government pay attention to their heroes. I understand that it is important to celebrate the heroes of today to build a great nation. The memorial at the site is beautiful and decorated with the American flag. The trees there are beautiful and planted in rows. The place has a unique charm. The museum is undergoing renovation. You will be amazed at the cleanliness of the area.

julie biersmith

So beautiful. How majestic‼ I will be back to spend more time, for sure

P Dionisio

It’s had been more than 15 years since I’ve been back to Sacramento. The upkeep of the capital is actually really good. For being as old as it is, the grounds were decent and hopefully will continue for future generations to enjoy. The shop is small but enough. There’s quite a bit of areas or choices to eat in the museum as well. Walking the ground outside is really nice as well. The upkeep of the trees and plants is nicely kept.

Viacheslav Elikov

Capitol museum is one of the favorite place in Sacramento for me. I really like how it looks like inside and outside. Everything is perfect. It also was a great experience to see all California governors. Arnold is the best! I also saw a big safe at Capitol and it was amazing to see historic rooms. For sure nice to see for anybody who visiting Sacramento, CA.

Barbara Parker

I took my grandchildren here they enjoy and learn so much. Anyone with children should take them here it is great learning history for them and I know it will help them to understand things they read in books as well.

Fae F.

What a beautiful place! It's like going back in time. The staff is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Also, if you take the stairs and not the elevator you will get a great workout! And if you can believe it, all of this is free!

Rho M.

I was impressed it's open 7 days a week unlike most capitols which are M-F & a few others open on Sat. Beautiful rotundra, circular rails, staircases, painted walls, antique furniture. My fav was a few original offices were left intact and/or replicated from early 1900s. Great gift shop, self guided tour with pamphlet. The main halls include window boxes representing each county in the state. Very interesting info from all over the state. Beautiful architecture and collectibles throughout complex. The tile floors are textured as clay was pressed thru the designs and colors and patterns and are gorgeous. Can explore several floors. The grounds around Capitol also include historical items all the way back to the Civil War. PLZ NOTE: As of Aug 2019, the west side of bldg - the main entrance - is scaffolded and covered in white fabric so forget good pics there. Also the movie/video room is temporarily housing the gift shop during renovations so no films. Also, homeless people hang out or sleep on lawns during the day.

Martin Bunker

Really awesome place. I would recommend watching a legislative session to watch all the senators passing laws. Cool stuff

Mark Cummings

A cool place to be. I did a bunch of people watching. It seemed like there were people visiting from throughout the world.

Nicole Mekker

The tours are FREE and actually super fun. The guide did a great job of keeping us engaged with little jokes, fun facts, and even teaching us a bit about the legislative system!

chao thao

Itna great place to walk around hang out enjoy the flower n tree n people get marry here too

Stanley Khoo

Amazing experience for group tour. We had a great guide. Very educational for the kids, great way to learn about the state of California and the democratic process.

Anne Shuck

What a beautiful statement for California! The capitol building has been restored - and beautifully I might add - and if you go upstairs, there's a impressive portrait of Jerry Brown. This is where California state government does it business - one of the busiest in the nation. The park grounds are beautifully landscaped, and maintained, expansive with plants and trees from all over the world. It's such a beautiful place to walk around. There's always a group of protesters on the weekend, as the capitol has become ground zero for this. School children are always here for field trips, and visitors from all over come here. It's mecca for what California is really all about.

Madona Silva

First time in the capital and it is a great experience! It is encouraging to be in a place where part of law making process happens. Each office was welcoming. The capital building is very beautiful.

Soni shines

Absolutely beautiful area. Love the variety of trees planted around the Capitol. Nice place to people watch.

Sean B

Visiting our state's capitol is a must if you wish to learn about California's amazing history. Roaming the halls you will likely run into several members of our legislature. If you have time, stop by your district's assembly office or the office of our state senators. Public engagement is essential in our democracy. Let our elected officials know that we are interested and paying attention.

Steven Caulk

I'm not much for visiting State Capitol Buildings but this one was fun. Make sure you take a tour to get the most out of it, and enjoy being a visitor in the Senate Chamber!

Tammy Lachey

Amazing museum. I love history and it was an absolute amazing experience for my boyfriend and I. We learned so much and the tours were fantastic.our guides were so enthusiastic and that made it that much more enjoyable.

Als Fiji

It’s beautiful and majestic. A must place to visit once in Sacramento. Will have to go through security, best not to go during the lunch time hours as the process maybe long. Most places are accessible to public, so you can wander in and out and see all the beautiful rooms and portraits inside this colonial building.

Patti Jordan

During a recent business trip to Sacramento, I found myself in the Capital Building to see some legislators. During the visit, in between appointments, I found time to visit the vintage Governor's Office display and other locations within the Capitol Building. This all makes up the overall museum quality presentation to show the history of California and it's state government.

Dorothy Jordan

The State Capitol is a beautiful classical structure with nice aesthetics inside and out. I've always liked the county dioramas in the hallway. The Senate and Assembly chambers are great to visit. This is where the State's business happens, good, bad, or ugly and I find that interesting. The museum includes certain rooms restored to the early 1900s. I enjoyed seeing the history on the hoof. The grounds are beautiful and make a great walkabout in the downtown are.

Tony Osbey

Excellent place to bring your family and friends. It's like a museum history of California

La Tasha CaREs

Chaperoned my daughter's 4th grade class on a field trip there. I loved the interactive displays for kids. There was just so much to see and do, I need to go back to do it all on my own time. Great place to take kids for a fun educational day trip.

Paul Bradbury

Amazing tour guide, guy really knew his history and was passionate to teach it to others :)

David Murphy

If you were born, raised, and live in California and haven’t physically been to our capital on a picture perfect summer afternoon....you’re crazy.

Melanie W

There are so many wonderful sights to to see in our states Capital Building. From its beautifully sculptured statues, to the beautifully designed architecture and ceilings. Our State Capital represents history of what was and future possibilities.

Carla Venzor

Beautiful historical place! Sooo much to see and learn! Free entry, they allow drinks however not in certain areas. Bathrooms have a seating area, this place is great for all ages, and to the gift shop is located in the basement and offers a variety of memorabilia however a bit pricey.

Kain Mosher

I was unlucky enough for their not to be hearings for either the assembly or the senate, so I was not able to view any of those. In other state houses when there aren't any hearings I've been able to walk around the floor of the chambers, which in California State house you are not allowed too. The county displays I thought were the most interesting to learn more about areas of Califonia I've never been. The museum parts of the house were well done, and I think a good way to spend a few hours in Sacramento.

Ross Quintanilla

The building is impressive not only cause the beautiful but also is well preserved and maintain, is a historical place full of history inside is as big as you can't imagine, takes several hours for walk all Around the place, also we enjoy not only the pictures, but the old books and the exhibition of all the California cities. I highly recommend this place, tickets are affordable almost for everybody.

Dr. Dean Aslinia

A beautiful state Capitol building! I’ve visited many of the state Capitols and this building ranks very close to Texas which is also very beautiful and full of history. While the building is beautiful and full of history and great architecture, it’s just smaller than Texas and less innovative in terms of its architecture, but otherwise, if you love American history it’s a must see place!

K D

Absolutely worth a visit! So much history here. This is a beautiful building inside and out. Highly recommend the free guided tour. Tours run ever hour starting at 9:00-4:00. The tour office is in the basement of the building. Give yourself plenty of time to explore this state treasure.

Jean Sullivan

Amazing ! Went on a suicide walk for my son the whole area is really really nice

Daniel G

Okay, maybe it's just because I'm a poli-sci major, but I loved the state capitol! I got the first tour of the day w/an amazing guide. We got to: - sit on the house and senate learn about the past state governors/cool history bits about California - tour the different floors of the building (you can even go to the dome if you talk to your representative) - examine the unique architecture of the building Even if you don't take the tour check out the building and the botanical gardens outside...then snag a momento from the gift shop in the basement

Jason Tomczak

Nice museum in the capitol building. It features dioramas and artifacts from all the counties of the state, as well as information on the history of California. There are also portraits of California governors and a period room. If you're visiting Sacramento it's worth a stop.

Siobhan Ruane

I had the morning off, so I gave myself a walking tour of the capitol building. It was a really quiet Friday morning, no crowds, a few school tours. Everything was quite beautiful, very clean and well-kept. The only disappointment was that most of the observation areas were closed. I wish I could have seen more. Other than that, I recommend a tour. You can do a guided one if you choose, but I went on my own.

Jonathan Os

First time visiting this place. I had the opportunity to see the Senate. The guy who was there was giving good information about the place. Kudos for that

Catherine Mcgowan

I love the state Capitol, it so beautiful with Roman and Greek history detailing showing it Elegantly style, Refined in the sculpture work, from ceiling to the walls and floors, colors Magnificent, Fabulous . I was blown away, swept up in the Power it Represents.

Melissa Ellis

The State Capitol is a beautiful classical structure with nice aesthetics inside and out. I've always liked the county dioramas in the hallway. The Senate and Assembly chambers are great to visit. This is where the State's business happens, good, bad, or ugly and I find that interesting. The museum includes certain rooms restored to the early 1900s. I enjoyed seeing the history on the hoof. cherie Street

impressive when you stand down the street and see it from a block or two away. Not so much close up. I don't recall going into the museum, I think I was outside of it and Google assumed the thought.

Mike Higgins

Honestly, I was shocked that you get in for free. I guess we do pay the taxes so it’s only right. Really cool to walk around the building, see the state senate floor, the old offices of the governor in its original condition. One section of the capital has a tribute to each county in the state - like a large diorama you did in elementary school. Strongly recommending this one.

Prabhasa Kalkur

Accessible to visitors all days of the week. It's a nice walk around the premises. The first floor has a pictorial description of every Californian county. The capitol dome is also open to the public. But most offices are private, since it an administration building.

Joe Ragsdale

Beautiful building and architecture with some really (surprisingly) cool history. Absolutely take the tour if you have 45 minutes, it's so worth it! I'm not normally a big fan of this kind of thing, but it's just really engaging and well done, plus its totally free!

Dave LaRoux

I know museums are likely never the first thing one thinks about when thinking of something fun to do but if you've ever been curious about state history this a really fun time that shouldn't be missed. The tours are especially excellent as the guide I had was very enthusiastic about the information as if she still had the same interest for it after several years of tours and I expect all the tour guides are probably of the same caliber otherwise they wouldn't be tour guides. If you happen to go on a day when there's something going on outside of the building then its a even more worth while use of your time.

Alyssa Michaelst

Outstanding place to spent your days very well. Decent and lovely environment. Lots of stuff to visit. Lovely staff. This place is so wonderful.

Charlie Bingaman

Great place to walk around, and take pictures. The rose garden is the best in the region and it is fascinating to go inside and see all the county displays.

Kamaran Jaleel

We had a couple of friends visiting us from out of town and we decided to go downtown. We have driven past the state capitol building many times but for once we decided that we are going to stop and go through it. It was a great experience and the building is absolutely magnificent. It is certainly a place to come and visit if you have the opportunity. The state capitol building is full of information about California.

HASANAIN JABER

I liked the transportation museum inside the building it is all about highways history.

Paula Gomez Susta

I was surprised for the beauty of the architecture inside of the California Capitol. It is so grateful that the government conserves historical building in this great condition. Also they offer a visit guided and you can spend some time inside the sessions room. The floors are incredible, the Colombus and Queen Isabel is so beautiful. If you are around the capitol you must go inside and take a look. I am glad I found by coincidence this tour in a cloudy day.

Jared Reid

One of the best capital buildings I have been to in all my travels. It was clean and impressive on the inside and outside.

Steve Bryant

The historical parts of the capital are interesting. My Great Grandfather made the stair railing and casing near the original entrance.

ashish kumar

It's really awesome to watch the functional State Capitol building which is 150 years old. They have tours every hour from 9 am until 4 pm which is last tour on everyday.

Gregory Scott

A lot of good history here and many areas to walk around. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The adjacent park has a nice variety of plants and trees which makes for a pleasant walk.

Charise Harvey

Great park grounds so much to explore & so much history! Inside is great once you get past the metal detectors

Vincent Martinez

It’s a little warm inside the Capital Museum. Be patient. There will be a lot of school children running around. Their is a lot to see here but it can be a little dry at times.

Javier S

Beautiful clean grounds gardens are huge. Liked memorial for fallen officers of California.

Paul K

First time to see a real redwood tree in person. Enjoyed my visit.

James Daugherty

It's a awesome structure. Beautiful park there as well. Enjoy waking around the Capitol at night.

I like to take people to the California State Capitol. In the first floor hall ways are window displays done by each of California's 58 counties and the governor's office with a brass California bear and a uniformed officer. Much of the historic building is a museum on the first floor. Above are the Assembly and Senate chambers. You can get a docent tour when they are not in session or watch government in action when they are in session. On the upper floors of the new section are the offices of the state legislators. Stop in a talk with your Assemblyperson's or Senator's staff to discuss pending legislation. You can participate in the future of California.

Robert DeSotle

I was actually very surprised at how interesting the Capitol building was. There is a very unique history and a lot of work went into restoring it. Plus there are little hidden gems throughout. For instance, the guy who laid the tile put one little piece backwards as his signature, Arnold Schwarzenegger's official portrait is actually just his movie poster from True Lies and you can be on the second floor and third floor at the same time. Fun fun

This is a must see when in Sacramento. Admission is totally free. Very interesting exhibits on the physical building. You may just catch some law makers making big decisions on California.

Enjoyed the visit to the Capitol. If you plan a visit with kids, ages 10-14, you can easily spend 2-3 hrs here. The tour was very interesting. They let you explore quite a bit on your own too.

Mark Carstens

School field trip... docent was awesome!

We went to the Ca state city after coming back from Oregon and I'll say is a must go place. It is now a museum and its FREE! you can admire the house of all the CA governors. The architecture is beautiful and I recommend also taking a walk in the beautiful park around it.

Hassana Elzein

A must see in Sacramento. It is very interesting to see the history meeting the present. The security there are really friendly and they didn’t hesitate to let us know that we can go upstairs and discussed with us several things we saw in the capitol. We got there late ( 45 minutes before closing) yet they were very welcoming. The only drawback is that there are so many closed rooms. The architecture however is really nice and the details are fascinating. Do not hesitate to take a tour if you have the time, this way you get more insights

This was a great event to attend and the best part was hearing the grant Drumline.

Ray Lemar

A great place to bring school children for a field trip. California history at its best. Lots to do and see here, can easily spend an entire day and not see everything. From the beautiful gardens to the antique furniture there is something for everyone.

Yesenia Cisneros

You've gotta check the Captiol out, especially if you're a local. There is a lot to see and learn about. You can get a guided tour or check it out with your friends/family.

ghamar nikzad

A good place for visiting and around this place, there is a garden with especial tree.

david petty

Was very nice. Lots of ways to get around. Walk as we did today there was also a horse and buggy, what looked to be battery powered scooters and bikes. Buses and shuttles. Our trip was a short one because I had my elderly mother. But old town sac. has a lot to offer. The train museum is within walking distance. airs got a steam locomotive that gives short rides for I believe 5 bucks and the museum is 12 bucks for adults. there's also guided trips on the Sacramento river 12 bucks adults. Parking was 10 bucks. But you can skip all the stuff except the parking and just walk around Plenty too see that doesn't cost anything. Also there is a old river pattle wheel that was transformed into a hotel bar and grill. All in all Defenatly worth a stop.

Love it ,originally I am from Romania and I am always enhanced to learn about other places history and culture

Alejandro Fernandez

If one comes to Sacramento they say it's a nice place but I wouldn't want to live there. With two of the most powerful Governors in office, the look far and wide to take care of California. But they overlook the surrounding region. The Sacramento Region is plagued by hate groups, both male and female hate groups. The businesses of the Sacramento region are and employ some of the most bigoted people. The colleges and universities plagued with hate and hate crimes. Watching people sit during the National Anthem at CalExpo 4th of July Fireworks show and realizing that many of those who sit or kneel are contributors to the hate and bigotry found in this Region. If they don't stand for the National Anthem, why Celebrate Independence Day? It's hard to realize that local employers, including big corporations such as banks and the biggest credit union put bigots in HR positions.

Andrej Andrea

It’s always good to see and visit the landmarks of each state or city. Similar to other capitols, this one gives a historical feel of the place.

Kathleen v

We had a great tour guide and even got to meet our representative. Our Girl Scout troop loved it!

Joseph Plumb

A great symbol of the American democratic system. I came here with my school group, and when we went to our district supervisor’s office, and his aid allowed us to take photos, and even gave us a tour of the senate floor. This is a very nice building with great history. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Khalil Bocock

I was unlucky enough for their not to be hearings for either the assembly or the senate, so I was not able to view any of those. In other state houses when there aren't any hearings I've been able to walk around the floor of the chambers, which in California State house you are not allowed too. The county displays I thought were the most interesting to learn more about areas of Califonia I've never been. The museum parts of the house were well done, and I think a good way to spend a few hours in Sacramento.

Donna Merrill

Was at the capital. Very good guide with additional facts.

Reid Leonard

The State Capitol is a beautiful classical structure with nice aesthetics inside and out. I've always liked the county dioramas in the hallway. The Senate and Assembly chambers are great to visit. This is where the State's business happens, good, bad, or ugly and I find that interesting. The museum includes certain rooms restored to the early 1900s. I enjoyed seeing the history on the hoof. The grounds are beautiful and make a great walkabout in the downtown are.
