REVIEWS OF California Museum IN California

LGND Creative

Excellent and informative. A little heavy on the social justice. I'm not sure why no one can understand the difference between illegal immigrant and the lawful immigration of people who become citizens but, besides that, it was pretty fantastic! I learned so many interesting things about the past. And their advocacy for vulnerable populations is admirable.

Jennifer Pearce

This is a great place for a field trip. I wish our bus driver had gotten us there on time!

antonia casados

Great museum, especially if you grew up in California or love living here. This has something for everyone and you really appreciate what people have contributed to this great state. The special exhibit Yet I Rise of the quilts of Black Americans is stunning. These are not regular quilts and tell a compelling story. They are beautiful, intricate and moving.

Todd DaCastello

A little museum with too many exhibits. It covers all of the Japanese Internment in less than 400 square feet. If you want to know just a little about a few different things, I guess you might like this place.

Sherri Vonstaden

Good histoty

Mark Clayton

This is an awesome little museum. I was here for an after-hours private event and was able to walk around. It's very interactive for kids.

C C

Went for a field trip and it was as interesting as it was fun. Will be going back for sure!

teannie dill

Madison Boling

Great to do with the family

wilton merkitt

I took my grandson here. Wonderful time. It's very easy to get lost in the exhibits. Never thought kids these days could enjoy history.

Nate Eddins

Stuff to see

Cato Siamese

Small but very interesting. Went to see the Japanese Internment exhibitwhich is dynamite. But there is much more to this museum.

harry jakobson

Good place

E R

Has some interesting items but the layout is difficult to parse. Had some California founding material next to local high school history stuff. I had to no idea how to navigate the floor.

Angus Bennion

One of the best museums I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to many of the big ones on the east coast. There’s a great interactive section for children and other heavier material for adults. My favorite section was the exhibit about developmental disabilities (not sure if it’s still there but if it is it’s a must-see)

Karol Langner

Was OK, but there are better things to do around.

Jesus Castro

Yo momma I old that she went to a museum and she seen all her ex’s

Went with a class as part of a field trip. Would recommend more time.

We went specifically to see the presentation about Japantown. Excellent job. Loved all the presentations promoting equality and opportunities for all people. Celebrate unity not fear differences.

Christina

Some very cool stuff. Some expected and unexpected. Intetesting old movie stars displays.

Lorraine Dust

The incredible pass is very interactive and educational for the kids, you can take a guided tour, the price of entry does not cost much.

melvin chan

Great displays. Lots of interesting stuff.

Sharon Bennett

I visited this museum to see what California is like from their perspective. I noticed every point of view. There are famous people, activists, politicians, and an interactive wall and sites. If you want a bird's-eye view of California, come here.

Mike Meyers

Great event For the opening of the Delores F. Exhibit.

Seyar Musazay

nice

Robert Null

Insight into Sacramento.

Francis Veto

Decent informative exhibits on the identity of California and its people. Capitol building is better, though.

JoAndrea Rushin

The staff was helpful and the exhibits were Americana/California. Gives a good sense of the uniqueness of our State.

Matthew Jeziorski

Interesting place to get educated about California and it's notable people.

Felipe Becerra

Really interesting museum about California. Brilliant top floor exposition about CA women. Loved the round table with the four screens, really interesting to watch. Totally recommended and good price.

Christine Armstrong

I was so impressed with this museum! I loved how they delved into the dynamics of human behavior, racism/sexism/etc. and they didn't gloss over the ill effects on under-represented peoples. The displays were well done, the space felt open and inviting, and seemed to attempt to involve kids in each area of the museum. I went on a Saturday afternoon and had an easy time finding parking a couple blocks down.

Deborah Gonzalez

So many great things to see give yourself plenty of time to explore.

Adrian Aguilar

This is a small museum about California history which covers everything from the gold rush, WWII Japanese internment camps and the California Mission system. It also show cases a lot of people from California and their contributions to California life from activist, politics, and breakthroughs in science and diversity. I feel it is a quick way to see when and how people influenced California and the nation as a whole in many cases. They currently have a Baseball exhibit worth seeing if you are a small ball fan.

Gilbert Santana

Worth for visit if you are in neighborhood, a lot of stories regarding California evolution from the beginning time until now.

Todd Fabian

Japanese American internment camp exhibits were very interesting and educational

Pete Duryea

Nice museum and tour for the kids.

Josh Polston

Mostly kid focused for school groups and such

Amber Vonstaden

Love all the interesting facts about culture and just knowing a lot more about my state, but also in a really fun way of learning it!

Tim Vergenz

Very confusingly laid out. There's no *order* to any of the exhibits nor the museum as a whole. It's just kindof a disorganized chaotic mess of information. Some of the content was interesting--but it was so exhausting finding it and understanding it that my wife and I didn't stay long.

Little Relics

Parking is always a bit of a challenge. But the exhibits are thought provoking and educational. Love bringing the kids

The California Museum is an incredible place to visit on O Street in Sacramento, California! They currently have The Sikh Project which celebrates and shows the resilience, diversity and beauty of the Sikh American Community. They also have a whole interactive section devoted to Unity for all people which was informative and fun. There is an exhibit of Francisco Franco about the inevitability of death that features Jerry Garcia in one section. I met with the Executive Director while I was there, and she felt that people came out learning much more about the people around them than they knew before and that brings great unity to our communities.

Farsam Fraz Hussain

They need to recheck the historical accuracy of some exhibits. One said that Christopher Columbus “discovered the new world” on said date.

Gregory Doremus

Very interesting to see the birth of California to modern day.

Kathryn S

Nice place to visit!!!

gina Gustafson

Wonderful exhibit on Sacramento's Japantown.

Leonard Rogers

Love this place! But too many liberals

Blithe Barnes

It was amazing, there was a gift shop and three stories of Californian history(with an elevator!). There is an interactive portion of the museum, great for kids and adults alike! Especially if your trying to teach your kids about anti-bullying, there's a lot of that too!

Anthony Gragg

Excellent place to learn about the history of California! Very interactive with a lot of great displays for people of all ages to enjoy. Overall friendly staff, except for one staff member monitoring the number of people entering the Gift Shop, who was very rude at times. The museum has three floors, but only 2 floors contain exhibits. Love the outdoor Constitution Wall!

Sarena Baltzley

My 1st time at the California museum. I was there for an evening event so I didn't get to really see the venue. However, some of the docents worked our event and one lady I particular was rude to many of purple event goers. She seemed really put off by our employees. Maybe if I go to this museum on my own Id have a better experience with their staff??

Marina Alvidrez

The California Museum in downtown Sacramento was fun for kids and adults alike. Lots of hands on activities. Love the women in history exhibit upstairs and the donations for activities downstairs.

joann cedillo

Love this museum, so much history..!

Jose Garcia

Nice museum to visit, very nice staff

Danealdo Smith

I love it

Michael Embry

This is a great place to take the kids.

Jo G

Huge. Way too much stuff to fit into one day. I suggest you take it slow.

Joe Zaldivar

The California Museum for history, women & the arts is located in the California Secretary of State Archives building. The recently exhibit was "Art & Advocacy: To Be Developmentally Disabled" in the Maria Shriver gallery. They have the California Hall of Fame and the "Health Happens Here" display. There are some Mickey Mouse statues. This museum is accessible from the Archives Plaza Regional Transit light rail station.

Americo

Ok

Fatima Matias

It doesn't have many exciting things for kids to see but they do have few things to try out which I bet kids would love. There is so much you can learn there and honestly would go there on a rainy day.Its perfect to go any day but honestly prefer a rainy day.

unise yadira merino

Very nice museum, docents are very nice!

Timothy Brown

Nice facility to go with the family to view the history of this country & state

Ben Hipple

I came to this Museum on a weekday and it was nearly empty. Besides my party there was only 2 other people visiting the museum. Some of the exhibits were interesting some of them were not. Most of the exhibits are not permanent so depending on what is being displayed it may or may not be worth going to the museum.

vinod patel

Great experience for young and old. Lots to learn.

GONZALES Family

This a great museum for children and adults. There is something of interest for the entire family.

Patrick Austin

Not impressed whatsoever. I was looking forward to learning about California's history but there was very little there. I learned about native Americans, Japanese internment (you might want to study before visiting their exhibits) and the last 2/3 of the museum was about diversity and acceptance. I'm glad my daughter wasn't with me so I didn't have to reclaim what compression vests are. The Hall of Fame was cool but could've been much better if they let go of the unity section and make a real Hall showcasing more then just ten people at a time.

Constance Rodriguez

The Health exhibit, the early California Indian tribes experience, the "RIGHTS" movement, the Newest American project and the beautiful people of the world photos, the wonderful Women's exhibits, the famous people exhibit who contributed to California's growth and diversity along with the amazing Encina Preparatory High School story and the new Unity Center "everyone has a voice"... An important place to visit. An educational visual odyssey.

Patti Jordan

This a great museum for children and adults. There is something of interest for the entire family. California Hall of Fame is a highlight. Given the subject area (the entire state of California and its history), I wish this museum had a little more space, or made better use of what they have. I've been to a few exhibits that were quite well done, but left me wondering "Is that all there is?"

Cooper Looper

Nice educational place to learn about California. Love the gift shop and nice people.

Kain Mosher

The Health exhibit, the early California Indian tribes experience, the "RIGHTS" movement, the Newest American project and the beautiful people of the world photos, the wonderful Women's exhibits, the famous people exhibit who contributed to California's growth and diversity along with the amazing Encina Preparatory High School story and the new Unity Center "everyone has a voice"... Margaret Abuhijleh

Love it

Theresa Wright

So much to see and do, we could spend all day here

Bonnie Patterson

Lots of information about California.

scott hahn

I could learn about California's history and more. I recommend to visit at least once in life if you are in Sacramento.

Elizabeth Schudel

There is a lot to see here and the content is interesting and varied. It provided me with plenty to think about!

Mandi M

Loved the museum! And this was the day I got engaged because my fiancé knows how much I love art! Great customer service, just overall very clean and easy layout

John Cinnamon

Simply does not compare to other state museums (e.g. PA state museum). Displays are rudimentary and unimpressive. Really felt like I was viewing a High School history fair. Nice staff.

chao thao

This place is very nice inside

J Jefferson

...It is a great place to get a brief history of California. Every resident of California should go at least once every decade.

Ligia Gutierrez

Good place to learn and appreciate the state of California. Staff are very friendly.

bryan farley

Incredible event Excellent staff

Jason Moore

We went to the museum to see the exhibit on Sacramento’s list Japan town and ended up seeing so much more. I would highly recommend this museum as one to visit if you have the chance.

Mike Fear

Excellent museum, with great historical facts.

Diana Pohle

Amazing exhibits

Bruce DeWald

A lot of great exhibits for a very reasonable price! The interactive health exhibit was really cool. Spent about 90 minutes here and got to see everything.

Sue Wallace

A very moving tribute to Japanese American survivors of the internment camps from WW2.

Sandra Determan

What a fun afternoon! Like walking into the past. There was so many cool exhibits and I believe that many change out regularly. So you'll never have the same visit twice!

Curtis Nelson

Very little actual history here. Just a bunch of political propaganda. I will submit a recommendation to my kids' school that they exclude this stop during future trips to Sacramento. I did like the little gift shop, though. The two women working in the gift shop were super friendly.

Dionne Thomas

Visited the Great Women of California, The Unity Center, and "And Still I Rise" exhibits.

Christopher Recouvreur

Great overview of California history, it’s place in American history, and the people who have made this state great. Some cool Hollywood related things include Indiana Jones costume and George Takei’s costume from Star Trek! Also they have a great unity display right now.

Jeffrey Goodman

Needs a bit of organization structure, not a state Museum: a non profit

Rafael Figueroa

We haven't been in Sacramento for over 10 years and this place is as good as I remember it. Their carnitas and their chile Verde plates are great.

Molly Finkelstein

A definite must see, rich with the areas history.

Brad Bokoski

The museum is a collection of current leftist propaganda. Conservatives would walk right. Liberals would cry. George Takei has an interactive exhibit pushing gay propaganda. Don’t pay the entrance fee; not worth it.

Matthew Brancaccio

One of the nicer museums in California. Growing up in New York I am very familiar with some of the best museums and this is one that is comparable. Very informative if you are an outsider looking for more information about the great state of California.

Daniel G

It was interesting, but I thought the State Capitol museum, the Crocker museum, or downtown Sacramento were better.

Achleay Page

Great time with the kids.

Richard Podnar

Interesting exhibits with knowledgeable staff and volunteers.

Andy Duvall

Terrific museum with engaging exhibits and rotating features. Nice gift shop. Easy to find and close to the Capitol and convention locations. If you're looking for gifts to bring back to your kids while on a from a business trip, this is a good choice.

rebecca cooper

This is a small museum, but filled with exhibits for every age. Best time to come is on the weekends, as school tours are given during the week. If going during the weekday take light rail. The parking is almost non existent.

julie spence

The museum has information about famous Americans, male and female. Worth a visit.

Alex Campbell

Great exhibits that teach about California's diversity and past.

Djoesef K

Very interesting display of California's history attractively presented, with a number of areas for people to interact. There were a couple of rotating displays as well - one on influential California women and another of Tolerance and our changing demographics. If you did not know much about California and were interested one could easily spend the better part of the day here.

Ezequiel Ortiz

Great museum! Fun times learning about the women and their role in this country! Loved my visit here and definitely recommended to anyone looking for a fun museum to visit.

John

Alright museum with amazingly helpful and friendly staff, though as another review basically said not a huge amount of historical overview or context and plenty of political propaganda.

jgarcia72548

Enjoyed the exhibit of Dolored Huerta.

Rebecca Jones-White

Plan a two day visit to the museum. To much history to try to absorb in one visit.

eric poole

Too much tech not enough Indians. Good information about unity on second floor.

Steve Teeter

Very fine state museum. It has many permanent exhibits on California culture, including the California Sesquicentennial Quilt, which my mother worked on for 2000. They also have a large gallery for good quality traveling exhibits. I saw "Hollywood Film Noir" which was excellent. This means it's a place worth keeping an eye an, as you never know what they'll have next.

Mark Horsley

Take your time and see everything it's wonderful place and worth going

Martha Jimenez

Lots to see and learn about California History. Stop by the gift shop and see the interesting collection of books and souvenirs.

Cat Campbell

This museum is wonderful. It not only showcases California's history but also of California's ethnic diversity. I enjoyed what I saw and learned a lot more. Kudos to this museum!

zheng li

Beautiful place, I learned a lot about California's history. The staff are very friendly

Wendel Tse

Spacious and not overwhelming or pretentious. Staff members are friendly. Nice that there are benches throughout for short breaks.

JIm May

Very cool, and informative. Broad spectrum of exhibits & live performances. Great way to spend the day and get informed at the same time! Come & learn more about the great state of California!

Ali Rozman

The California Museum has so much to see inside, its an Adventure!!

Rondalyn Smith

It was nice seeing all of the history

Jody Ann

Great place! Loved the exhibits! Got in free thanks to Bank of America.

Liz M

Pretty cool! Visited on Free Museum Day. I was impressed.

Scott Love

Love this place. Exhibits change fairly regularly and it isn't overwhelming. They for a real commitment to diversity.

Eric Talaska

Need to increase the volume for the Robert Redford display

andy barbusca

Very cool wwII exhibit now on!

David Solomon

Great place to learn about California history Californians. Pleasant environment and lots of details. Well worth the time spent there!

Diane Kotlewski

Lots of great history to read about that I had forgotten since 4th grade!

Morgan Slade

The mini games were fun. Parts of the museum were overwhelming at times - a lot of pictures and print all over the walls made it hard to follow

4am Collective

Good storytelling

Calogero Maniscalco

The history on offer is amazing, from Hollywood and glitzy Olympics to prior Governor elections and the sad persecution of minorities - everything is covered. And the annual Day of the Dead party is a great event

fif gxdug

Great for tourists, great for locals, great for anyone. There is always an exciting exhibit to visit or revisit, fun and friendly staff and volunteers to help you along the way. Don't forget to check out the amazing work of art the "Constitution Wall" (you have to go out into the courtyard to experience it). I absolutely loved the exhibit featuring the accomplishments of women, and please take some time to walk through the Unity room, the world can be a kinder place.

Sherry Shockey-Pope

Great exhibits with good information

Claudia Soria-Delgado

Latina Legislators rock

Ro Duran McBride

Nice museum. Great baseball exhibit when I visited.

Brenda Baker

A beautiful museum. However, too much about people and "Unity" - the entire 2nd floor, and not enough about California's history, flora and fauna. Kind of a disappointment when I was trying to teach kids about thier amazing state.

Khalil Bocock

Traveled in May! Using Sacramento Gold Card for the hotel guests! They at time had exhibit about "Junk Drinks" Interesting, many ill effects for those that drink these kind drinks! I so glad I cannot stand drinks as these, the carbonation makes me vomit!I also like hands on exhibits! One area, get piece paper, rub over the picture! Rubbed the different California icons! My favorite was state insect, Dog Face Butterfly!

Jammie Barker

Amazing! Quality exhibits. Would definitely come again!

Chancellor Palps

A very interactive museum, and friendly and helpful staff
