Outstanding little museum focusing on the history of Tempe. Free! They also have an exceptional committee that arranges lunchtime lectures and presentations, monthly music groups, and other educational experiences for youth and adults. Did I mention it's all free? The building is part of a city complex with a library, art studio, senior center -- plenty of free parking, well lit at night, on bus routes, electric vehicle charge stations, and convenient to the 60 freeway. They now have a raised solar panel array that shades one of the parking lots! Tempe did a great job on this.

Pretty cool little place ... not that big, but it has plenty of history about the community, including local music, and it has a number of interactive exhibits, plus enough for the kids to do that they won't get bored if you want to spend a little extra time - not somewhere you're likely to visit more than a couple times (except maybe for events), but definitely worth checking out

D P

Was there for a contest. The MC,fell off the stage and several people fell on stage. The steps were not save.. I am sure there's a safer way to handle this issue.

Jared Byrne

worth a visit. It isn't a huge building, so we only spent an hour or so with kids - and the kids really enjoyed it.

Milo

Great museum. Kids learned some stuff and was able to touch some public accessible items like a restored historic vehicle. I'd recommend it and handy to watch for events that happen here

Colin R

Cool little free museum! Kids liked it, I liked it. Great way to spend an air conditioned afternoon learning about the history and development of the area.

The SW corner of Rural Road and Southern Avenue in Tempe has become a real cultural center in the East Valley. Not only is it the location of Tempe Public Library, Vihel Center for the Arts, and Pyle Adult Center, but it is also the home for Tempe's new, modern Historical Museum. The Museum offers a walk through Tempe's historic, ethnic past set in a modern, colorful building. Exhibits for young and old alike. I especially enjoyed the Hohokam artifacts from Tempe's prehistoric days and my wife appreciated the exhibits presenting Arizona State University history. There is an active program for school children and family-friendly performances. Free admission, free parking, and free entertainment.

I like this cozy museum. It's right next to the Tempe Public Library off of Southern Ave and Rural, and there's no charge to get in. The whole museum takes a little over an hour and half hours to walk through (if you're like me and read through all the signs). The people at the front desk are also super helpful and friendly too. I do miss that slanted wooden house thingy they had about 2 (?) years ago. It looks like they took that exhibit away and it was super fun when it was there. I hope the bring it back.

Timothy Marchini

Great place to kill sometime for free. A lot of great information. Museum was done really well. Very friendly staff.

Anastacia Paro

Ubi Sheikh

Great place...tons of fun things to do...child friendly

Owen Mortensen

Free museum with interesting history of the Tempe area (Tucsonans will need to hold their noses as they peruse the history of what became Arizoana State University - fears were substantiated). Currently (until October 2017), there is an installation all about the railroad in Tempe.

Robert Ritchie

Too bad Tempe keeps creating more to reminisce about by destroying its downtown history. At least there's a place to gather in mourning.

carmen 123

Small and limited exhibits.

Cecy Gonzalez

Very fun and informative! My kids and I went there on a school field trip and we played bingo and Tempeopoly which is their own version of Monopoly.

Lefeurouge

The museum actually looks pretty good now that they've remodeled so much of what used to be here before. I really love it! And I like that it's so close to the library.

Kolby Granville

Small but really nice museum that is family friendly.

Maranda Piro

I love this museum BUT if you do not have children nor particularly like children this may not be the place for you. There is a wonderful child's play area with a stage and truck with play food. Children love it and WILL get loud and excited. There are large areas outside of the kids area where adults can read the exhibits etc, but please be aware that the child's space invites imaginatve, excited play.
