Julia, the volunteer, was hospitable and fun to talk to. The museum was well laid out. The tags or signage was easy to read and left me wanting to learn more. Will return again and again. So glad I am local.

One city block of bars, pubs, shops, with The Palace saloon in the middle of the activity. The Palace has swinging doors, a great 50 foot original antique bar & a miniature museum of territorial Arizona. Also served as a locale for scenes in a Steve McQueen western movie Junior Bonner. Great shops along the street with beautiful Indian jewelry & many gift shops as well a hotel with restaurant, St. Michaels, where Doc Holiday had his dentist office on the 2nd floor. Very historic street with much to see & do-including dancing!

complicated history that's nothing to be proud of but the new installations on cultural appropriation, lost and stolen "culture" of the fake Smoki, and their efforts to have an exhibition of, by, and for the local native community seemed like a big step in the right direction

The American Indians hold a special place in our history. They have been mystified, villified, abused, and admired. For most Americans, they are less understood than we imagine. How a collective people who are so straightforward, can be so enigmatic is difficult to understand. The Smoki Museum is a superb facility that offers visitors a window into the customs, history, lives, and lore of the native Americans of the southwest. This is a must see museum for anyone with an interest in the people who were and are the first Americans. Allow yourself at least a couple of hours to see what this wonderful museum has to show and share with you. If you live in Arizona, you need to visit the Smoki Museum to expand your knowledge of our state and the southwest.

This is a really neat museum that shows some of the history between whites and Native Americans. You can see old artifacts and newer costumes and appropriated ceremony wear. There is a lot of various pottery dating back to 1100 AD as well as hunting spears and even woven sandals. I had no idea about the Smoki guys who used Native culture to save their rodeo. It's interesting history. I left with mixed emotions. Oh and the building is beautiful!

Mike Parker

Very interesting museum with tons of art and pottery from the local Native peoples. The history presented is very intriguing and shows nicely the way of life in the area before European contact.
