A great place to visit if you're in the area! Especially for people who love learning about other cultures. This museum offers a good base to learn about the Navajo people; their culture, resilience, battles, treaties w/ the US gov., etc. Admission is Free, so make the stop. There are also times that the museum will host a special exhibit (often celebrating Navajo People now.) You will learn so much!

A must-see in Window Rock. This museum is probably a bit bigger than it needs to be. Not all the exhibit halls were full when I visited and the building felt cold and austere. That said, the exhibits were well done- especially the exhibit on the Long Walk.

Dale Jensen

It is an old building. But people are friendly and the Museum is informational.

Very rich with the culture and some very interesting facts to find here..

I always respect other cultures specially if they sacrifice a lot for this nation. I read all the details of the museum and love how resilient Navajo people were. Learned so many details about oppression, wars, love for the land and family culture. I also loved the architectural significance of every ones home before.

I like the space, very roomy, i like the walk to the front entrance a very nice view of the Rock formation esp in the morning but renewing my library card was a hassle, i was worth it. i want to go back to enjoy the view in the morning before the sun peaks over onto the entrance.

This is a very special place to go after or before the zoo. It has the history of our Navajo people. Not too long ago the actual treating agreement was put on display at the museum. It was brought back from Washington DC. There are sacred old traditions on display as well. Then don't forget the store on the way out. Maybe even visit the library.

A great place to get out of the summer heat wave and enjoy the museum for free. Please leave a small donation to help cover maintenance and exhibition costs so future visitors can enjoy the museum as well.

chaithanya kompella

Great place to know the actual history. It was an emotional experience.

Krystle Raymond

The most knowledgeable staff at the main desk! Very in depth education provided. I'm so happy I stopped in because the library had free books to giveaway, the zoo was also free, an intriguing video tells about the Navajo culture, inuding the architecture of this building. Thank you so much!

Jason Fair

The museum was an eye opening representation of the Native American struggle and includes the actual treaty signed with the Americans. All the art is beautiful and unique. We got to camp here through Harvest Hosts and enjoyed it. We would visit the museum again.

A must see if in the area. Small but full of old photos, paintings and true copy of 1868 Treaty signed by US Government and Navajo chiefs which allowed the native peoples to return to their lands near Canyon deChelly after the Long Walk and imprisonment at Ft Sumner AZ. Sad and embarrassing for stupid white people of the time. Quiet museum, very emotional.

(Translated by Google) The Navajo Museum Library & Visitors Center is truly beautiful and makes a great tribute to the Navajos. It's a real must do not miss full of emotions and history. This complex is in a contemporary building that also houses the Navajo Nation Library and a collection of research. There are cultural and educational programs sponsored by a variety of organizations and housed in different rooms. It also has an auditorium, an amphitheater and a café restaurant. The museum shop offers souvenirs and educational materials about the Navajo culture. It has a collection of Navajo artifacts, both ethnographic, historical and artistic, as well as a photographic archive dating from 1930 to 1970. There are also limited-time thematic exhibitions used to explore various aspects of the Navajo people and their culture. A complete exhibition on Navajo culture and history has been created recently, as well as an exhibition on Navajo Code Talkers, better known as the "Messengers de vent" in France thanks to the film of John Woo's American war with actor Nicolas cage released in 2012. Entry to the museum is free and open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm but closed on Sunday.
