This Museum is classified in the category of Art museum.
This is a wonderful mix of Northern Arizona history. There's a beautiful exhibit of the Native Peoples of the Colorado Plataeu that was created using stories from area tribes.
Quite smaller than I anticipated it being, with a large emphasis placed on the native peoples of northern AZ and the four corners region. Beautiful jewelry and pottery were on display, but otherwise there’s not a lot to keep you here for more than an hour or so. We got held hostage at the front desk for what seemed to be forever. Almost took longer to hear her tell us about the museum than to see it for ourselves. And there’s not just one gift shop, but two of them, the second being situated in between exhibits so you have to pass through it. Boo. The value proposition for this museum dwindles significantly if you’ve got more than a few people above the age of ten. But it’s a beautiful building, and the people here are supremely passionate about it.
Great museum with lots of unexpected things to see and try out. I visited the gift shop where I bought some beautiful handcrafted earrings. The vendors were just lovely.
Cute little museum. Doesn't take long to see everything. Which was perfect for the kiddies. They had a little kids section with board games, coloring pages, audio visual learning, and a puppet show you all related to the theme being taught. Nice stop in Flagstaff if you are looking for something to do with the kids.
A good collection of tribal artifacts, pottery, and jewelry. I love the historical facts.
Wonderful place to learn the geology of the area along with the history, and culture of the native peoples to the Northern Arizona and Colorado plateau. If you are visiting the area make time to stop by. I don't know how often they offer them, but we lucked up on a guided tour through the geology showcase (which was included in the already fair priced admissions!) I guarantee it'll increase your appreciate of the area and the incredible views you'll see. There's a nice, easy grade hiking trail next to the museum as well, that was a nice experience.
Very interesting and informative
Part natural history, part cultural history, part art history, all enchanting!
One of the very best museums we've visited. Everything is well laid out, not random displays. Little in the way of 'tech' displays. Lots of great original material. We've been a number of times. Cannot find a better place to learn and enjoy.
Ok, but $12 goes farther in PHX and Santa Fe, or Amerind foundation on I-10. Nice old lodge building and grounds for free!
This museum is a must-see! We've been there many times but every time we're in town we stop again. There's always a new exhibit or something new to see!
This is an anchor in the Northern Arizona cultural anthropology scene. It is a great all-around museum touching on geological, cultural, and environmental histories of the region. They host every summer (July?) a tribal fair exhibiting Hopi (and Navajo?) arts, dance, and food. It is a good place for all ages, with the exhibits surprisingly scaked for different learning levels and some special items for little ones. The classic attractions are the fossil skeletons of a giant sloth and other animals, and a reconstructed kiva or Hopi structure. There's also a nice little canyon that boasts a small nature loop.
Amazing place. Really nice and friendly. Lots of information.
Amazing experience! Would definitely visit again. Loads to see and learn about. The entire museum can seen in a couple hours. We were in Phoenix and it was a very scenic drive to the museum. The museum also has a trail. I do recommend long pants, tennis, and bug spray. Trail is not good for strollers so bring your baby carriers.
The admission prices are reasonable. I went on a day when indigenous people were only $8, so I saved some money. The art is cool, they host native vendors which is also cool. I would've liked to see more indigenous employees though. The only complain I have was the parking. We went on a day the Hopi Festival was going on so that might've been a reason it was so full. They had a shuttle from a lot across the way but it was full as well and you kind of just had to make your own parking spot.
Excelent museum, there was a guide whom work was amazing. All related to the prehistoric, pre-Quaker history and contemporary Native history.
Very interesting lot of displays.
In addition to the,Museum,collecti9n, there's a nice nature trail along the river and cliffs
Wonderful displays.
What a wonderful museum! Learned a lot about geology, archeology and the most treasured heritage of native Americans, with my two girls. Well done!
Not just baskets and pottery. This is a great perspective of the various tribes of region, their beliefs and different arts, and traits and a brief history of each.
Interesting stuff to see
Great collection of items. Check out the dinosaurs! Happy they were open on a Monday. Great gift shop.
An absolutely incredible collection!
The building and grounds are beautiful, and blend harmoniously with the surroundings. The exhibits are well shown, interesting, and highlight the history, beauty, and culture of Northern Arizona. I went for their "Thirsty Thursday" event held during the summer. The featured artists were a Flagstaff group called The Dark Horse Trio. If all of the entertainers are this great I will make this a weekly habit.
I had not been here for many years. Still a great regional museum with a friendly "badger" maintaining the entrance. I was impressed by the collection and layout. The Begay rug exhibit was beautiful, the geology archaeology, and Native American halls were well done. The building itself is a treasure.
The artifacts are awesome !
Our tour guide was great. Very informative .
Allow lots of time. If you want history, geology, etc., include this stop in your vacation.
A local treasure. Great facility. Exceptional exhibits. Also a premier venue for events.
Excellent place to learn about the natural history and the history of the peoples of northern Arizona.
We happened to visit this museum, because we had free time and we saw the sign. Glad we visited. This is a fantastic museum. We spent 1.5 hours here. The staff was friendly and anxious to impart their knowledge. I highly recommend. It was definitely worth $10.
Absolutely amazing! My favorite room was the dinosaur exhibit spent about 2 and half hours there reading everything about the jewelry and pottery. Highly recommend this to anyone for us visiting!!!!
Excellent
Love all of it! Such spirit and home feeling! Wonderful!
Very educational and beautiful place
Cool.
Very insightful. Easier to imagine Flagstaff hundreds and even thousands of years ago
Awesome. The local Native Indian exhibits are extraordinary. Two thumbs up!
Worth a stop on the way through Flagstaff. Very informative guide walked us through the history.
Love this place - so much to see and they change it all the time.
It was a very impressive museum a lot to see and very interesting and informative. Definitely worth the trip, especially if you are going to the Grand Canyon.
Cool museum in Flagstaff! We liked the dinosaur fossils and Native American artwork. There's a kid room with puppets and coloring and you're allowed to touch lot of the items in the museum!
Absolutely fantastic and wonderful place to take families. For Parents that live in Phoenix, their summer camps make a great family vacation. Drop the kids off at the Museum for a well organized, fun and educational camp; then Mom and Dad can go off to enjoy some alone time. Highly recommend!
The customer service was amazing. The museum itself is smaller than most museums, but the content can still keep you busy for a while. If you're a student then consider bringing your school id for a discount.
Very informative and interesting.
Pretty educational. If you have the time, check it out.
Wonderful museum. Loved the amount of information collected & shared
Beautiful extensive collections of native American arts and traditions.
Very nice for a self supported museum a lot to see and learn
This is a great museum. There is a very good geology exhibit, and the Native American displays and items are excellent. I highly recommend it.
Smallish museum but great exhibits, interactive for kids, and the shop is good. My husband and I really enjoyed it, as well as our 10 year old grandson.
Flagstaff is hosting it's Annual Celebtaciones de la Gente
A visitor to northern Arizona should spend time here getting a feel for the geology and the people's of the region
Came here for a class project and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the exhibits were. I just love the new intro to -I believe- the 3rd exhibit on the map with the different Native American speakers welcoming visitors in their own language. Looking forward to bringing my mom when she visits this month!
New Native American Cultures exhibit is exceptional.
Top-notch jewel of a regional museum just on the edge of town. Not too big, but collection & displays on-par with any major museum in the country. Rotating art gallery. Excellent book store. Single best selection in Flagstaff for high-quality regional ceramics, jewelry, Hopi kachinas & Navajo rugs.
Very informative, cheap cost, shows a lot of Native American history in the area.
Quite clean and well organized, great art and history
The collection was fascinating! I would definitely go again!
Great museum and fun trails outside.
Great collection, of American Indian craft and art. Wonderful oral history and shows the diversity of various tribes from their point of view as well as the history of the animal life of the region.
What a wonderful find up in Flagstaff, AZ!. We came upon this museum by accident. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn't get the front desk lady's name but she was wonderful. She explained the layout of the museum and made our visit and experience exceptional. The displays are great and educational. Just a great experience.
Beautiful and Awesome. Intense and Delightful. Inside and Outside, curated and arranged in a natural way, we loved it.
Not a bad place, a lot of local Indian art
This place was amazing!!! Best museum I have been to! (That being said o have yet to go to the Field Museum in Chocagp, National History Museum in NYC or the Smithsonian)
Incredibly wealth of information. Nice staffs and gift shops.
Definitely worth going to if you want to learn a bit more about the Colorado Plateau. I brought my family here when visiting and we spent about two hours. I would have stayed more, as I read about everything.
Love this museum! My son loves the dinosaur skeletons on display there. There is an informational tour led daily but we usually like to listen for a bit then do the self paced tour ourselves. They have the Navajo festival yearly and nature trails outside. You won't regret visiting this museum!
interesting exhibits and great info on history of volorafo plateau
Historical information, very interesting.
A lot of knowledgable information.
Excellent.
Awesome Exhibit on Hopi, Zuni, Navajo, Hualapai, and Havasupai tribes.
Disclaimer- I work here. Its a great medium- sized museum covering a wide range of topics from geology to culture. Two great museum shops offer items to continue learning or purchase your own art or jewerly piece. But really it's a museum you can handle in a couple of hours, yet still find something new on the next trip.
A beautiful building with a great collection of artifacts. Also a good amount of modern art. The only thing to improve the attitude of the lady at the ticket desk, dismissive and unfriendly.
Not what I expected but a good native tribes collection.
It was very informative and the employees were always helpful and willing to answer questions.
Good exhibits but the flow felt a little weird for walking through chronologically - quite a bit of doubling back. It’s a very spread-out space though, and well maintained, with exhibits taking you through the broad geologic and societal histories of the area. The push of Europeans into the area isn’t covered much, instead focusing on the peoples native to the area and what their cultures both looked and look like. This is good, as we only really learn the white version of it in schools around the country/world, and it remains more approachable for more ages of visitors who may not have the stomach for the atrocities committed in the name of manifest destiny.
Small "museum" with seemingly more than half of the building devoted to gift shops selling overpriced jewelry and art. A couple of dinosaur displays, a kid's room off to the side (only one as far as I could tell) that focused on ants(?) Not sure what that was about, but our daughter had fun there and no other kids were there, so she had the room to herself. I got the impression the museum isn't very kid friendly. Good displays on Native cultures. Would have been nice to see a few Natives working there to add more authenticity to the otherwise only white staff. Why no Native guide to answer questions on the Native displays? We spent about 90 minutes here, including walking around the outside grounds a bit. Had planned to go on the nature trail near the museum, but the weather didn't cooperate with us today! $12 admission per adult and our 3-year old was free. Price is decent I guess for 90 minutes. Our daughter spent 30 minutes in the aforementioned "ant room" otherwise this would have been less than an hour for us, so I get why some reviews said it was overpriced. One of the gift shops has pretty expensive breakable items (like small Native pottery) within hands reach of toddlers. Obviously, those should be out of reach of little ones, especially since you stuck the shop right in the middle of the "museum." I didn't realize what it was until my daughter had run in there. No plans to go back here, but if you're in the area and need to kill an hour or so, it's okay. We'll probably drop by to try the nature trail or have a picnic on a future trip, but unless they change displays, I don't see touring inside again.
Lots more here to see - we have to come back!
Very interesting, well presented museum. Want to go again.
Attended our first "Thirsty Thursday" event. Enjoyed the music and great place.
This museum is fantastic! I always recommend people visit. I've been several times, but today I went to Hopi fest. I can't believe it took me so long to make it, I had a great time!
Museum was full of interesting exhibits about the geology and the native history of the area. Plenty of hands on exhibits too, as well as pottery and some art. As a European visitor to the USA, and with a limited knowledge of native Americans, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The tour was super. So much I would have missed with out it.
Went to their Navajo festival. Only three food venders, many old white people, mostly inside art exhibits, terrible blues songs done by Navajo natives. It was too far to call this a “festival”. My husband and I (from Europe ans Asia) were so excited to learn about Navajo music, people, and it’s culture, but this event was basically for senior white Americans to purchase $300~$600 jewelries and crafts. There were 90% elders and 10% children and youth. They should have name the festival different way. We wasted $24 entree fees... I don’t recommend this place.
What a great resource for Northern Arizona. Neat stuff, every time!
Interesting, it was fascinating to see all the various tribes of Native Americans who had or are still making Arizona their home. The various artifacts we're great.
One of the best places to visit while in Flagstaff AZ ! Great Native American art and artifacts. The Museum store is amazing
We always stop here when passing through Flagstaff for both the informative and always changing museum exhibits, and the carefully curated selections of Native American crafts in their gift shop. Always a pleasure and have picked up baskets and jewelry here over the years.
It is a fabulous place that introduces one to the history and culture and artistry of the Arizona tribes. As well as walks one thru the evolution of climate changes, animal life and geology of the area. Not to be missed.
It was a snowy afternoon we visited. So much to see that 2 hours was too short. Gentleman in book shop knowledgeable. He explained ATLATI & METATES to me. Have to come back to see more of their wonderful exhibits and new Ethnology Lockett Gallery.
Great Place & History of my People (Hopi).
Great 1st stop before you start to explore the area. It gives you a good deal of information about what you will be seeing. Especially American Indian info.
I liked the dinosair dinosaur and indian part. The rest was a bit to "arty" for me
The place is open until 5 p.m, it takes long time to read the description of each of the items displayed since they have a huge collection I would recommend to reach the museum by at least 3.30 p.m to make the visit meaningful.
Beautiful layout and exibits made of glass, 1st class shop and bookstore but Abit small and expensive
Nice experience
It's a surprisingly nice museum. Especially for flagstaff.
I do love museums me and my mom went to see Museum if Northern Arizona what a great museum for the whole family to enjoy admission is $12.00 (18+) Adults, $8.00 ages (10-17)years old, $10.00 Seniors, 10% for Military and vets.. It is a big museum you can take a walking tours or you can do it yourself tours using an app.. Or you can look arround you can spend hour and hours arround the exhibits.. They also have an art exhibit as well.. They also have alot of Native American art and pottery as well, try it out great fun for the whole family..
It was ok. The exibits were interesting but it was kind of small.
The staff were very kind and helpful. Our girls did a scavenger hunt and we're rewarded and the art and history of the native cultures in the museum are amazing.
Museum is decent sized. The outside garden was dead and needed to be cleaned. The gift shop was lovely. Great artifacts. Cute place for the kids
Excellent small museum with a combination of art, culture, history and nature.
Navajo art and jewelry were beautiful and moving. The Lamb Navajo Taco was the perfect snack before leaving to go have wine.
Fantastic museum, I was especially impressed by the exhibition about indigenous tribes and their traditions. A spectacular work, kudos to the team
Interesting,good Indian culture
The whole place was great. The Pivot exhibit was exceptional
Very interesting and informative about Native American peoples and as a bonus today was the Navajo Festival of the Arts
Nice collection of fossils, Indian artifacts and paintings in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.
Besides excellent museum, very nice gift shop.
Very beautiful place that has much to teach you and incredible stories to tell. Glad I picked this muesum on my day trip, I greatly appreciated every moment.
Great little trails around the museum. Did not go into museum as the cost was higher than we could afford ($12 a person, I believe...). Nice park nearby. Beautiful area.
Absolutely fabulous!!! So many beautiful things to see!!! Enjoyed it very much!
Went here on a quick getaway, and loved out. The tour was super informative and engaging. What I enjoyed was the marriage of art and science.
Excellent
If anything, too many choices information! Enjoyed.
If you are interested in Native American culture, this place is a must see. The museum has a fabulous collection of artifacts and historical displays relevant to life on the Colorado Plateu and geology of the area.
Great place to visit. Very interesting information.
Good Native American jewelry and nice museum !
Attended the Navajo festival and liked the way you walk in and out of buildings; something we don't have too much of in the North east where cold and rainy weather is routine.
Excellent and nice and cool, enjoyed.
This museum was just middleground. Its clear that some of the more permanent exhibits are dated: interactive pieces are over worn, broken, or the tech is decidedly obsolete. Still, lots of beautiful history, arts and culture to see and take in, even if its a bit disjointed. Its worth a look.
Learned a lot about the Native Americans history.
Nice nature trail with good birding and many native plants. Pygmy Nuthatches, Broad-tailed Hummingbirds
Good for the kids.
Very informative on Colorado Plateau.
Nice place to see
Wonderful artifacts, relics, and historical data collected over time from Native American cultures who lived in the areas that make up Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah since around 100 AD.
Great museum with heavy emphasis on the Native American culture of the Northern Arizona. Exhibits are very well presented and educational. Allocate about two hours to see the museum. Overall well worth stopping here for a unique museum experience.
Great experience..its well laid out and docents write knowledgeable
Very nice museum.
Hopi show is the best!
Had a wide variety of examples of native American art and culture. Offended by the glorification of native Americans and the vilification of white settlers.
Fantastic! My grand daughter had a blast so did we!
Kris was very helpful and full of knowledge about the museum and local attractions!
So much bigger than I thought and so much to see
Fascinating.
You'll be glad you took the time!
Interresting display of the history of the Colorado Plateau. It's a good place to stretch legs and take in some local art. The staff were very nice to talk to.
We have been members of MNA for many years. We attended the members opening for the Zuni show. Wonderful pieces in pottery, silver , textiles and art. We did make s couple of purchases. Only regret was not a lot of attendees.
A place that must be visited, the artifacts are well displayed and documented.
Terrific gem. It's so much bigger than it looks.
Come every year for Zuni Festival on Memorial weekend.
Very very nice. Much larger than appears from outside. Loved the information about the different tribes
The tour of the Colorado plateau was very informative.
Much history accrues to this museum and there is much to be learned about the peoples of the high desert, their culture, and their way of life. The museum shop is very good place to splurge on silver jewelry not normally seen in shops.
An absolutely beautiful and well done museum located on wooded acerage.
Wonderful exhibits, friendly staffing,Kris who greeted us know was very informative and knowledgeable about the museum
Whenever spending time in Flagstaff...it's a must place too visit...excellent displays of SW Native Americans history...there's always something new to see & learn...
Awesome! Great place to learn history all the way from the time of the dinosaurs!
I haven't been here for a while. They've up graded their exhibits and its way more interactive.
Loved it here, went when two exhibits were closed but it was interesting great place prices 8 dollars for adults
We hit this on one of our Museum tours we took. Very interesting and so worth the stop.
Wonderful museum. I could've spent more time but was on a schedule.
Great museum on the history of the indigenous people of northern Arizona. Lots of artifacts, especially pottery, demonstrating their development over the centuries.
Wow. Beautiful museum.
