REVIEWS OF Fort Huachuca Museum IN Arizona

Stan Garrett

It is definitely worth the to get a pass into Ft. Huachuca in order to visit the post. A must is the Theater, films of the historic past of the fort and the present activity was quite an experience to see. It's a must see hidden treasure of Arizona.

I am a Canadian Veteran 67 years old with no criminal record staying in Green Valley AZ for 6 weeks. I have a passion for this particular military history and drove to the museum but my wife and I were labelled foreign nationalists at the gate and refused entry and not offered an escort to the museum from the gate entry point. What do we need to do to visit this museum. I will be in Green Valley next February and March 2020. Was not impressed and felt treated like a criminal. This is a public museum is it not, and I did not see stated that it was for only US citizens. I have since learned after writing this review that if a non US citizen wishes to visit the museum, contact the Sierra Vista Visitor Centre at least 3 weeks prior to your visit, to gain access to the museum.

Mi Cozza

Gary Klein

Take a minute to stop by the museum and learn a little bit about the post's history. It's small, but adds a lot of context.

Not a huge museum, but the exhibits were very well displayed. My father is a retired military pilot, who spent most of his career in air cavalry units, so the history of the units on display have a very real connection to my family. It doesn't take long to walk through, and there is so much history there you cant go wrong.

Horace Macey

FYI: As of 8/17/18, the upstairs section which houses the majority of the exhibits is still under renovation. The first area (downstairs), gift shop and the theater across the street (home of the Electronics Proving Grounds exhibits) remain open. There are no indications for closure duration so please call and check the status if you wish to experience it in its entirety.

My Cyber

Nice museum with history on Fort Huachuca and the Buffalo Soldiers.

Gail Enid Walker

Historical information about the early West and the Buffalo Soldiers.

Rebecca Curran

The Military Intelligence museum is top notch. Lots of short videos and personal stories. The only trick is that you are entering an active base so you must go through the east gate, park in the small lot to the left and go inside the building for a security check.

Chris Jones

Historical military history of the post. Some great relics and photos from the Buffalo soldier days. Beautiful location near the parade grounds and officer quarters. * Public must obtain a pass at the Damon gate prior to going on post. Military I'D OK but everyone in vehicle MUST have a pass. Use the parking lot east and north of the gate and walk to the brown building to get your pass.

Joyce McBee

A wonderful, free museum (please drop a little something in the donation box) that is open to the public. It covers the history of the post and many people who were stationed here, and what life was like, as well as some history of the surrounding area.

Raven

Fascinating. Very well done. On par with the Smithsonian.

No interactive exhibits, but if you are into history, it is very interesting. Also, this is where they do drone training so you get the history of those, too. Note: you have to get a pass to enter the grounds so bring picture ID and allow yourself 15-30 mins to get the pass.

A little-known but amazing museum with extensive history and displays of the Buffalo Soldiers and life in general in the harsh desolation of southeastern Arizona in the 1800's and early 1900's. Those people were tougher than beef jerky! We'll worth visiting.

Great little museum showcasing Fort Huachuca's history, with particular focus on the Buffalo Soldiers. The museum annex displays the base's current role as the home of the US Army Military Intelligence Corps. Fantastic visit for history and military intelligence buffs. Show up a little early. You will have to enter the visitors building, at the front gate, and apply for a pass to enter the base. It's free, but expect it to take 20-30 minutes.

Kerry Fry

Fantastic park, loved the beautiful gardens, a big thumbs up to the local Gardener's. The campground is very nice, the cave tour was very well done and informational, great activity center. Really were pleasantly surprised buy all there is to enjoy here. Will keep this on the come back list.

There is a July sale-15% off. Nice! Volunteers Nancy and Caroline very helpful and friendly. Worth a trip on Post.

Gus Garcia

The history in S. Arizona is so much more than what you see in the media, for example, Why these forts were placed way out here. Apaches and Mexican Bandits, that's why. The property was legally purchased from Mexico and belongs to the U.S.A. Funny how some things don't seem to change.

william braun

Stop by credentialing at the visitors gate to get a pass to enter the base to visit the museum.

Christine Gomez

Very educational

India Shanté

Nice, informative, exhibit. My parents and I loved it!

Clarke Moyer

Took my family visiting from out of town and they loved it. Also got to see the Annex that has UAVs and more modern items in it now. Worth a visit if your family can get a base access pass.

Susan Armstrong

It lacks details about the history of the Buffalo Army Team. Just a room of posters and very little actual display items.

Richard Edwards

I used to work at the museum back in 1973. There is a lot of rich history here. Especially about the Buffalo Solders, Cochise and Geronimo.

Scott Riebel

Great military museum with a pretty good history of the Buffalo Soldier that served St the post during the Mexican American war and WWI.

Ramiro Maya

Loved it. It is an awesome place

Robyne Hartman

Very interesting history, worth going.

Scot Lawrence

Once you get cleared to enter, the museum's are very interesting.

Thai Nguyen

This museum is so rich with local history. I love the gift shop with great finds of native arts and crafts.

Museum is closed on Mondays. None the less I was able to get pictures of the historic portions of Ft Hauchuca. Especially the post cemetary which is emaculately maintained.

Rudolf Cehak

Good museum! I recommend it if on Post.

Eric Thornton

Well done and we'll maintained.

Paul Witter

My post. Returning since 1974.

Micheal Weinfurtner

I started off with the uniform display which is expansive and well documented. I moved onto another building where they had a very good display of UAVs and their use through conflicts. Found the museum well maintained and lots of helpful people working there. A good place to stop if your in the area.

Carla Cook

If you are in the area, make sure to visit this museum in Fort Huachuca. You must get a pass by entering at the Van De Mann gate. The history of Buffalo Soldiers can be found here. Many of the original barracks and other buildings are still in use. A visit to the cemetery is also recommended. Be sure to go to the Buffalo Corral to sign up for a guided sunset horseback ride!!!

Jim Perry

The buffalo soldier mudeum is interezting but small. The intelligence museum can occupy 3 hours itself.

Jeff Greer

Great Antique Museum for the Buffalo Soldiers. Re my mother's father and my Grandfather.

Lone Ranger

Pretty good information. History is great.

Gale Bouma

Very interesting museums!!

First visit in quite some time. Disappointed. Display is well done for the Buffalo Soldier. But that is about all there is. The old theatre building once had displays on communications equip and testing missions but is now just a few drones. Second floor of main building is closed for renovation.

Chalmers Reed

Simply Fascinating.

Terminally Unique

I really enjoyed the museum...very interesting to see the contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers to taming the west. I was quite surprised at the amount of battles between Buffalo Soldiers and Apaches in Arizona. There was also a cool section on drone development. I never realized they started working with drones back around 1958. In any event it's totally worth the trip and you'll get a pass that is good for visiting for a year.

cody strayhorn

Neat, quiet place

Phil Scala

Was expecting an informational day about the Buffalo Soldiers, but they were only a small part of what was there. Very disappointed. Also, the directional signage was sadly lacking.

janice mcmorris

This is the second time that we visited the fort to see the Buffalo Soldier museum. The upstairs was still being remodeled. 2015 was the first, now 2018? Also, I thought it would be a lot bigger. I did get some great information that made me want to dig deeper into that history
