REVIEWS OF Arizona Copper Art Museum IN Arizona

What a fabulous museum! So well laid out and housed in a old high school built in the 1930's I think. This museum is privately owned and a passion for the people that run it. Just fascinating the history and importance of Copper, and who would have thunk it? Also in a lovely, historically interesting little town. A Must See! I am now reading the book about this fascinating family!

pat flynn

Great pieces of art work. I also liked how they are using the old school, keeping the town history.

Kristine Follett

Everytime I go to the Copper Museum I am amazed all over again. Drake and crew continue to expand the collection, building beautiful displays and adding more and more information about this very important mineral that is so important to our human civilization while being so beautiful! If you visit the Verde Valley, this is a must see!!!

I always make it a point to try and visit museums if I have the time. Wasn’t exactly seeking one out, when I stumbled upon this one, and I will be honest. I really wasn’t expecting much, as I have zero interest in the theme. It’s always a treat to be surprised. The grounds of this museum were immaculate. I forget the name of the person working when we visited, but he was wonderful. Incredibly helpful, and we couldn’t help but notice him cleaning inside and out of the place the whole time. We had a great time at this museum!

Carol Herbst

I decided to stop at this museum and very glad I did. It is in the old Clarkdale High School. Even though they are still renovating the building, they have done a beautiful job of setting up the displays. I was told they have hand built the amazing display shelving. There are so many items displayed here along with information I was not aware of. I look forward to their continuing growth and will be back to visit again! There is parking to the west of the building and on the street.

Paul Gray

Neat museum on copper art and uses.

D Berg

An almost secret museum in the old mining town of Clarkdale, Arizona. The museum is definitely a local, regional and national treasure. The Smithsonian should consider adding it as an associate museum. The museum is carefully laided out in the old school building. Each room or display is dedicated to a different aspect of using copper in art and daily items. It houses one of the largest collections of brass casings from WWI turned into works of art. The kitchen display is spectacular. I would have liked to see more brewerania, but I will look for more on the next visit as they continue to add to the collection on a regular basis.

J. Inman - Brubaker

There are so many things to see you can't possibly see them all on your first visit. While the copper was beautiful, I also love the other items such as colored glass and a fantastic nautical, mythical themed backsplash behind an antique stove. I think there's something for everyone in this place.

Luis Glinos

Lots of copper everywhere!! Interesting pieces and history. Museum attendant was very knowledgeable and friendly, he came by many occasions asking us if we had any questions. This museum is located in the old high school building, every room is marked it regard to what it was used during the high school days along with some photographs. We enjoyed looking at all the artifacts and displays. The adult entrance fee is $9.75 per person.

Wilma Desmarais

Barbi Harner

A must visit if you are in the area.

Diana Weiland

If you love copper or have even just admired a shiny penny, this place is worth a stop. Located in a beautifully restored high school, every room reveals the history, beauty and versatility of this heavenly (literally) metal. The owner gave a brief intro and was great at answering questions we had. The only thing missing was a small gift shop where you could look for books or other items to feed your new passion for copper. There is a beautiful store in Jerome but many people may not have time for the side trip. You will be thrilled.

Patricia Stewart

This museum was awesome and very very interesting. It had lots of items to see and loads of information about the items on display. One could spend hours in this museum.

Friendly service

Drake Meinke has done a fantastic job on thus museum. It is housed in the old Clarkdale High School. He has copper art from around the world. While you're here in Clarkdale, be sure to visit the Clarkdale Historical Society. Go North past City Hall and the museum there is at the end of the street. Great artifacts and history of Clarkdale, and great view of the Verde Canyon Railroad and the old copper smelter.

Michael Brugess

Well worth a visit and tour.

Shift Er

Very very interesting. Allow an hour if you're a person who just kinda looks and doesn't read much, allow upwards of 4 hours if you're going to read every little thing. I loved the copper footsteps to follow and really liked the trench art. I wish I had all that copper cookware! There is certainly something that everyone will find interesting.

Jack Brown

Cool place to visit expensive go inside. We came for the outside because it was the old Clarkdale high school and it has beautiful architecture for such a small town. They put a lot of detail into this building and one day I will pay to go inside to see the rest. The bell is from an old catholic church I believe it from the last picture I did not take the picture

Wayne mckenney

A hidden treasure. Was sceptical about going in but was the best decision of the day. Incredible display. Especially enjoyed the room of trench art and the kitchen display

Michael Decaires

Plan on staying two hours.. to see all of it..Worth the $9.00 and time well spent to see it..you will not be disappointed..

Ed Pearlman

Great exhibits! Staff - VERY helpful. Checked on us often to answer questions.

Scott Baldry

This place was great to visit. The museum is in an old school. They did a great job of maintaining the character of the school during the renovation. Lots to see and it was a learning experience. We were surprised by how good the museum was. Lots of displayed items showing the history of cooper in the area and in mans lives. We highly recommend if you are on the area. Takes approximatley 1 and a half hours to 2 hours.

Charles Ware

The museam has so many unique and priceless copper items. It's a little mind boggling. Certainly worth the time and money. My only criticism is it would be even more interesting if there was more local mining history. A written history with pictures of the area. I loved it there is a lot to see.

ALONSO MONTANO

Museo muy interesante. Lo recomiendo si van con tiempo y quieren conocer más sobre la importancia del cobre.

ryan bigelow

Hidden gem! In addition to displaying excellent examples of all kinds of functional and decorative copper arts, it presents copper history in an engaging manner. Easy to get to and worth a visit - or more.

Ray Visser

A large museum of many artifacts made of copper going back to some before Christ. Rooms dedicated to navel items, mining items, kitchen items, pots and pans, brewing and distilling equipment, ceiling stampings, to much to mention. Allow at least two hours. Very nicely arranged and the staff is very helpful and explains anything you want to know about copper. Very worthwhile.

kenneth judd

Does a good job of briefly covering the local mine and an excellent job of showing copper's uses thru history dating back hundreds of years!

Christina Gillespie

We stopped at this beautiful well-done museum. Self-guided and a beautiful collection of copper items. The displays were superb in presentation and we learned so much about copper. A MUST SEE!

Vince Shannon

Amazing copper and bronze art.

Paul Spears

To be honest, it just seemed like something to do in the area (since everything else is outdoors like activities), to pass time but it ended up extremely interesting. Museum is highly recommended if you're in the Jerome/Clarkdale/Cottonwood area. The curator is amazing. The museum is located at the once Clarkdale high school, which is filled with stories of it's own. It's a very nice museum aestheticly. Largest collection in the world. We were in the first ones in so we got in for $8 instead. The sheer amount of the collection was overwhelming. It's use in our history and importance in health and society is vital. You'll learn about so many things that you didn't even know we're related. Copper is my new favourite element. They have over 5,000 pieces in the collection, both from the state, nation and country. It's a massive part of Arizona's heritage. Many items of interest, intrigue, splendor and imagination. Also, Mr. Clark (Clarkdale is named after him) was paramount to this nation's history and I had never heard of him prior to coming here, and I consider myself highly educated in history. Please stop by and visit.

Elyse Pancotti

Awesome little museum, more than I ever knew I needed to know about copper but awesome info none the less. The trench art room and the kitchen were my favorite!

Michael White

Really cool place to visit and view all of the exhibits

Kathy Officer

Warren Harley

ryan king

Just bliss

Miles Freedenberg

self guided tour, a lot of reading, pieces, and art. also made an effort to share some of the history of the town, area, and the old schoolhouse they're housed in. side note because im pedantic and didn't know where else to put this: in the exhibit room with the shell casing vases, there's a book beside the door which has some information on countries involved in the war, with the correct period flag for Germany, and two of the others remain unchanged however the flag of the US is the modern 50 star which was strange to see one old flag one new flag instead of all uniform

Stuart Allen

Surprisingly great

i recently visited the Copper Museum in Clarkdale. I was pleasantly surprised at what a great collection and beautiful assembly of artifacts. I arrived early, but was allowed to enter and peacefully wander among the exhibits. To think that this Museum is less than two years old, the staff has put in many hours of labor. I have been recommending this Museum to every person I have seen since returning to California. Great Job Guys!!

Great out of the way find in Clarkdale Arizona. If you love museums you'll love this repurposed high school turned copper museum. This is a self- guided tour. The high school opened in 1928 and was closed in 1960. The museum was opened in 2012. When in the Sedona area this is well worth the 17 mile drive.

Rose and Mike Farmer

Well if you to know about copper and it's many uses through history. This is the museum for you. It seems to have every conceivable device or implement or craft that has ever been made of copper. Good thing they have the main floor of a refurbished old high school to display it all in. Pretty cool really.

Cecilia Swetland

Great history about Carkdale a fun afternoon

Lenny DeShurley

A carefully, curated collection of beautiful pieces of copper art, tools, and weapons throughout the ages. They also included other pieces made from metals mined from the area such as silver, gold, tin, and bronze. I highly recommend this museum for anyone in the Verde Valley area.

Lisa K

Highlight of our visit to AZ! The old high school was converted to this museum. Each 'classroom' has a theme representing different types of copper art. Plus, there is a little bit of history of the high school as well. Well worth a visit!

Had some time available and I was driving through earlier in the day than I usually do so I stopped. What a great experience! Self guided tour is low stress. An abundance of interesting artifacts, art and every day items made from copper, brass, bronze and tin. I’ve decided I now need flower pots made from WW2 artillery shell casings and ONE of the rooms in my house just has to have a copper ceiling!! Do yourself a favor and stop in if you’re in the area!!

Here in our little town of Clarkdale is the history of copper. This museum, a wonderful labor of love, is amazing and very educational. The owner, Drake Meinike is incredible. He knows all the stories behind the pieces...kitchen, trench art, ceilings, jewelry. The list goes on and on. This is a treat. Plan on spending some time here

Jerry Crowe

A neat collection of all things made of copper or brass. Highly recommend spending a couple hours inside. I will be back.

James Draper

If you enjoy copper, you are going to love this place. The museum resides on a 19th century high school building that closed in 1936. The halls and classrooms are full of well displayed facts about not only local lore, but the complete history of copper and it's uses by many cultures. One exhibit is of the mysterious Bagdad Battery which dates back to 250 A.D.. The entry cost is reasonable at $8 for adults. And there were no crowds despite a local event filling the surrounding community with out of townerd.

Kyle

The Arizona Copper Art Museum was a truly wonderful surprise. It was beautiful and highly informative. There was information on the history of copper mining, it's uses, it's lore, and it's scientific properties. The building is gorgeous and historic. But, at least one of these 5 stars belongs to the staff person on the day of our visit. He was welcoming and knowledgeable. He engaged the kids with questions and interesting facts. He really changed a good experience into a GREAT experience.

Gérard MERLE

(Translated by Google) Very interesting. (Original) Très intéressant.

Wayne Peck

Very interesting and much more complete than anything I would have expected. Worth the entry fee. Can easily spend a couple+ hours if you take in every exhibit and explanation.

Marcelo and Linda Da Silva

Incredible place full of history. Well taken care with a collection of items that capture better than any place the importance of this metal not only in the context of history but also the humanity.
