This is a place you can patron again and again. The gift shop is filled with native art and literature. The exhibits are unique and world class. You won’t see anything like it anywhere. A must see for anyone fortunate enough to be in the area.

Mario Madrid

We loved this place because of the native history, ancient artefacts and modern artist Gerry V displays

Caleb Mayes

Although out in the middle of nowhere the museum has an interesting collection of ancient and modern Indian artifacts. The surrounding grounds are pretty as well, with rock formations reminiscent of Prescott AZ. This would be a great place to come for a picnic or maybe a photoshoot. It's also 5-10 degrees cooler than Tucson which is a nice bonus.

Sharon Nolan

Entrance prices are too high. I walked away.

Judy Browne

A MUST see for Indian artefacts. Also western art on display. Camping next door at Triangle Ranch/pool/Bar resturant. Cool area to explore.

The Amerind Museum was established around 1931 to preserve artifacts surrounding South West Native American cultures. The facility boasts an art museum as well as a wide array of archaeological artifacts.

Wonderful history of U.S.' genocide populations

Wonderful out of the way place with so much beauty it is a must to see if your in the area. Everywhere you look there is something that will capture your heart, mine was the huge woven basket. As you walk along and view everything in the Foundation your mind will take you back as you wonder how the people made such beautiful and workable objects. Take you time and enjoy it all.

An outstanding museum, exhibit, and art experience. My wife ran a 5k at Amerind as a part of their 5th Annual fundraising event. While there I toured the fabulous artifact museum and also met the Native American artist in residence, Duane Maktima, a Hopi-Laguna master jeweler. It turns out that Duane and I share several common friends and probably have crossed paths 30 years ago in Hopi land. The setting for the Amerind Foundation is not far from Texas Canyon, and has a similar phantasy landscape of giant balanced rocks and granite boulder outcroppings mixed into a mesquite desert grassland. The original buildings date back to the 1930's and reflect decades of loving care. The caretakers, museum employees, and directorship have made the Amerind Foundation a "must-see" for anyone who loves Western and Native American art as well as archaeology.

The museum is a gem, the gallery is worth a look and don't miss reading some of the oral histories upstairs in the gallery. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it under the shady oaks and mesquites. There are flush toilets in the picnic area. Can be very hot in summer!

John Fleischman

Full of great history and artifacts plus an excellent example of Southwest architecture in the gorgeous setting of Texas Canyon.

Josh Loring

Beautiful setting out in the desert, an old building built originally to be a museum. The exhibits showcase the Native American people of the area, and geographic features. A picnic area that's open for the public is quiet, on the outskirts of the main building. This place is worth driving to just to see the landscape, and beyond that a day could be spent viewing the many interesting exhibits.

This museum of Indian tribe culture is fantastic. It's off the beaten path & a little hard to get to, but worth the trip. Very well organized & surprisingly large display of culture. The art museum affords more & adds to your tour. Stop at the Texas Country Cemetery on your way out. A small surprise. Definitely a must see place if you are in the area of Texas Canyon on I 10. Dragoon road takes you there. Worth the two hour stop over.

Don't go on a Monday, even though you may just be passing through that one and only time and missed the sign, on the gate wide open, that gives the the hours. You will be greeted with, "What do you want?!". My mistake totally! I should of read the sign "Grumpy if bothered on Monday".

This Museum has the largest collection of native American jewelry, however it appears to be jumbled together. I was interested in trying to track it's development by date and tribe. Could be much better.

Richard Cochran

Educational, broad review of many North and South American pre- and post- Anglo Indian cultures from pole to pole. Individual displays are well done, but the overall coordination is somewhat disorganized and fragmented.

Brenitra Moore

Such a. Beautiful place with friendly staff!

Barb Jelen

I am always looking for museums to visit when I travel and the Amerind Museum is a hidden gem. I went on the referral of a friend and was not disappointed. The exhibits are beautifully curated and I love the bilingual signage. There is also an art museum featuring amazing and thought-provoking work from contemporary Native and LGBTQ artists. In addition to being a unique museum and art gallery, the Amerind is surrounded by the gorgeous Southern Arizona desert, providing great photo opportunities and a one-of-a-kind backdrop of a picnic.

Michael Probst

Went to the art museum 1st then the Native American museum. Both were great but, recommend doing it the other way. By the time I got to the 2nd place, was tired of reading. I will return

I had never been here, neither had any of my colleagues. But I've seen it as I'm driving down to Willcox, Bisbee, Douglas, etc. I run a college readiness program for high school students and I thought this might be a good educational opportunity for my students during the summer. My students usually love museums. Once we arrived, it was apparent that we were not trusted in the museum, as we were escorted to every section we were "allowed" to see and we were not allowed to browse on our own. Not only was the docent escorting us, but a second staff person (a woman) followed us around everywhere. I got the sense she was making sure we (the students) behaved ourselves and didn't touch anything. Kind of like when someone follows you through a store because they think you are going to shoplift (if you are a person of color, you know what this is like). Upon entering the art gallery portion of the museum, we were taken to a small room where quilts hung. I attempted to take a photo of my students looking at the exhibits and was scolded by the woman following us that no photos were allowed. I apologized and put my phone away. Into the next room was a room filled with beautiful paintings that resembled water. I was reading about the artist when the docent walked in front of me and said, "Don't bother reading it. It doesn't make any sense to me. Besides, I have some issues and personal beliefs about the artist." It did not make sense to me, but as I continued reading I learned that the artist was a Native Queer woman. While he was not direct about it, it was very obvious he was referring to this. At that point I was prepared to take my students and leave. However, we stayed and continued our tour where the docent talked "at" us and did not allow for questions or freely looking at things. During a section on MesoAmerican peoples he brought up an artifact and said, "Can you imagine how Mexican you have to be to make this." (later on several of my students made mention of this and how uncomfortable they were upon hearing this). I also noted that many descriptions and information cards had references to Native Americans "giving" their items to the museum. However, this was made clear that the artifacts were from an estate that took the items from the specified tribes. During our last exhibit, an area focused on games and sports in Native communities, the woman who had been following us closely pulled me aside to ask why we had high school students here. I explained the nature of the program and what types of activities we did with students. Her response to me was, "Oh, so they're college-bound....no wonder they are so well behaved." Among all the offensive things that were said to us that day, this was perhaps the most belittling. This statement just underminded the efforts my students make to be contributing citizens to the world. Despite the very difficult and horrible experience we had there, my students walked away with dignity and with lessons on how NOT to treat people. My staff and I were appalled at how poorly we were treated and moreover, how the students were treated.

A great museum tucked away on Dragoon Rd. Expert knowledge of the area and its history with Native Americans. I love their commitment in educating school children thru hands on activities.

Harris Rosenberg

Well this is a very interesting Museum if you are into Native American culture there's also a Native American art Museum But the thing I would like to emphasize is the incredible picnic area on the amerind foundation property behind the museum with picnic tables and all the glory of Texas Canyon rock formations so you're it's like you're in a mini Wonderland of rocks miniature version of chiricahua National Monument The picnic grounds are free there are picnic tables and real flush toilet restrooms and lots of rock formations and shade trees and interesting photography opportunities And it is only a quarter mile off of I-10 Dragoon exit

Amazing collection of southwest art and artifacts. Beautiful architecture and grounds with the art deco Fulton hacienda looking over the Amerind Foundation museum. Definitely worth a visit. Plan on spending several hours.

John Kilbridge

Worth the trip! Beautiful art

David Wittrock

We loved this place so much we bought a membership. Boom! A horse rancher was a collector of Indian artifacts. As he approached retirement, he set up a foundation and donated his collection. It would have been easy for the Foundation to just say, "Thanks" and have it all disappear. Instead, they built two buildings, one to house the artifacts with a thorough display of how they lived and decorated their world, and another building to house both ancient and modern art by Indians. Worth a trip.

A great museum to learn more about the native American culture.

Great picnic area

Terminally Unique

I really enjoyed the museum...lots of exhibits of native American cultures from the Inuits to South America...though primarily seemed to center around Native cultures in the southwest and northern Mexico. It was fascinating to see just how much influence the Amerind Foundation has had in preserving archaeological sites. There are some cool rock formations in the area and on the grounds with a picnic area as well. Near the entrance is a pioneer cemetary that is looked after by the Foundation...with a historical marker with interesting information regarding it and how it came to be. There is also an art gallery that we didn't have time to visit but we will definitely return for. The museum has many examples of pottery and basket weaving with some midern piefes done in the old tradition to boot. If you are a Cochise County resident you can get free admission the first Sunday or every month as well!
