The giant cabbage is a real thing!

A great place to start your visit to the Palmer area or really anywhere in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. They have great displays about the history of the area, from the Athabascans through the New Deal era Colonists, and they have lots of information about what to do and see in The Mat-Su Valley. Bonus is a great display garden outside.

Elizabeth Lycan

Beautiful garden to walk through. Free entry to a small museum and garden. Sometimes you can catch the farmers market across the street from the gardens.

I've visited often but in the past I only visited inside. If you visit please don't overlook the gardens, they are beautiful! The information in the museum is very interesting. This is the first stop you should make in Palmer.

Nice to see the vegetables growing and learn more about the Colony!

Wow, what a historic social project during the depression! I never heard of this "new town" experiment. I'm glad we had such a well spoken tour guide to relate his growing up in the settlement. I would definitely recommend you take the time to read all the displays about literally starting a community from scratch, organized by our federal government in Washington. 40 percent of the first 200 families remained in place after 10 years. Other families took the place of many who left. Today the community boasts 7,200 people.

An important hub for Palmer's community, culture, arts, history and activities. Always happy to have another reason to leave the house. I would love to see more and never want them to go away.

Gregory Hartley

A lovely surprise. We thought it would be a "visitor center" with just a bunch of brochures, but turns out the place is a compact, well-designed overview of what makes Palmer special told through history, agriculture, and art. Highly recommend this be your first stop when you visit.

Great free stop to take your family to learn a little bit about how Palmer was settled! They also have lots of information on what you can do for free in the area. In the summer they maintain a beautiful garden area that you can walk through and observe all the different types of plants. Sometimes they even allow you to pick and eat the raspberries. Nice place and helpful people.

This is a wonderful place to visit to learn all about Palmer and the surrounding area. The museum curator and her staff are knowledgeable and fun individuals who are happy to share what they know and they are a huge part of what makes Palmer a great place to live and visit. Local artists and merchants are very active in the events, especially for Second Saturdays.
