This place is really well done, and the landscaping is beautiful. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I'm honestly a little disappointed with my visit, though. There was no "living history" aspect here. By the description and photos on the website, I thought there would be costumed people walking around, giving demonstrations. I guess I should have realized with a town the size of Montgomery (and the fact that it's not exactly a huge tourist destination) that would be impractical from a staffing standpoint, especially on a random Thursday morning when schools are in session. There was supposed to be a person working in the pottery building, but she wasn't there. Same with the spinner. I ended up asking the front desk person at the living block what the deal was - she said that they'll bring out the actors/costumed people for scheduled groups, and then once at the Christmas open house. Kind of disappointing, but again, I guess I expected too much. My toddler also wasn't too into it, but that's my fault for expecting a two year old to appreciate the "look but don't touch" aspect. I will return, but probably only for the Christmas open house, or maybe on a weekend to bring visiting relatives. It really is a lovely village, though.

Old Alabama Town is a great visit for any history enthusiast. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and has an excellent knowledge of how early Southern life was like. It is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon catching up on history.

Rhonda Kaufmann

Along as chaperone for my 6th grader's field trip. Very enjoyable and educational. Make sure to visit the school house as the school master is an excellent role player!!

Qld Alabama Town is a place that is loaded with musemns that contain actors that reenact the events of past times. The home that was on a plantation built in 1845 was so amazing. We were told and showed how cotton eas spinned in thread and dyed for colors. We were also told how child worked and helped the parents on the plantation.

Shawn Mcmanus

Nice playground for kids. Nice tour for people who like the history of areas.

LaTajMaHoney

Nice place to learn about a little history

Katrina Crandell

Tavern Fest 2018 was a real let-down. They moved inside off the street, only a couple of Beer Purveyors showed. Very little options in the way of food. A DJ instead of a bluegrass band. The party has lasted until late until this year. They also went up on ticket prices for getting half as much stuff. Very disappointed in changes.

Tasha Mcclellan

It was great! I went to it with a field trip. The only problum is that it is very hot during the summer.

Interesting Alabama history. Nice place to visit.

Tessa & Nicholas Burkart

Was a nice place to visit. The tour guide was impatient and at first she was whispering so you couldn't hear her. Then in the same house she screamed at a child for not being still k4 talking. And in the next house she literally screamed at another child for talking when we were walking in the school house. Other than... Thank you for the tour.

Place was great. Very interactive and it's so well maintained. The idea of walking around into these places/ buildings is so much better than seeing pictures on a wall. The playground is also great and big enough to let the kids run around awhile. One of the best kids playground I've ever seen!

site seeing

The tour was ok. The school house actor and the lady that spun her own cotton were just on point, loved them. However the gift shop has removed ALL Confederate flag bearing items. Regardless of if you like it or not Alabama was part of the Confederacy for almost 5 years. That is an integral part of Alabama history. Hiding the history does not change it.

Amir Atapour

Good experience. I recommend that. It took 3 hours to visiting all places.

Alyssa Nydegger

Visiting old Alabama town was an awesome experience. If you love history and 19th century architecture then this is the place for you. The tours are self guided and you are able to thoroughly explore the interior and exterior of the historic buildings on site.

A blast through the past! A wonderful place to visit and check out, and there is lots to see! The employees there are wonderful, and they also dress up in costume! Check out both sides of Old Alabama Town.

Alisha Underwood

I'm actually here right now and the tour is pretty awesome! The actor lady in the store irritated me because she told me to put my phone away when I was taking pictures. Which is the reason for my rating. I liked the store and the shotgun house the most. Just wish I could've gotten better pics of the store.

Catherine Creed

They were very knowledgeable! Great place for a field trip. I do feel like we were rushed through a couple of the segments and the information was given really fast. On the whole, it was great!

Kmari Harris

This is a very nice clean park and the equipment was well kept , no cracks or broken pieces that would hurt the children. Plus there if you go inside the a lot of historical content to see

alfred josey

No special attractions or exhibits advertised! Few school tours anymore. Restaurant closed down in a rental house there. No more Bluegrass music on Sat. a vacant bldgs, sitting ,no tenants in many. Playground was huge mistake. Very sad!!

Great tour for our 4th grade field trip!

Mara Osuna Suarez

This place just makes learning so much easier and entertaining. Its is a bit of an awkward walk from the center when crossing streets with a bunch of kids but the actors more than make up for it. They are awesome.

jonathan carswell

Nice family place to visit

Christiann Taylor

I went here on a field trip with my daughter's fourth grade class and learned so much. We only had an hour and a half here and it was not enough time to see everything they have to offer. They have a blacksmith, a general store, a place where they produce newspaper just to name a few things. We will be going back to spend more time here. Would recommend to my history loving friends!

Carol HodgeArmstrong

Interesting visit. Watching dying and basket making in addition to touring turn of the century buildings. Really enjoyed the history!

Robert Rinehart

Was a very interesting place, lots of history to see there. They have some great people telling you about living back in the 1890's in these buildings. Be aware in the summertime most buildings do not have AC!
