Went to Oakleigh House for a school project. It is so beautiful. The tour is very educational and fascinating. Enjoyed learning the history of the house and the time period. The grounds have an oak tree that is 300 years old as well as some of the prettiest Camellias that I have ever seen.

Marcello Scozzari

Disappointed. It was closed for flea infestation due to hot weather. It would have been nice to know ahead of time instead of driving all the way there and closed. We are on vacation and will not be able to visit.

This place has a story to tell!

I absolutely loved Oakleigh! We were lucky enough to take our tour with the manager, and she knew so much about the place. I'll admit I was kind of apprehensive when I got there because the outside is in some desperate need of renovations, but I'm so glad we decided to take the tour anyways.

I had a very pleasant time at the Oakleigh House. Our Guide Mary was very helpful and made the tour very entertaining. I went with a group from The University of South Alabama in the Museum Studies program. Mary did a wonderful job answering all of our questions.

Over priced. Grounds needed maintenance, ruin by the city, not violates electrical code by running an extension cord around the outside of the building and in another window. Overall disappointment. I don't recommend.

Awesome tour and tour guide.

We were visiting Mobile for the day and had really planned to tour the Bragg Mitchell Mansion, but as they were closed for an event, we visited Oakleigh instead and were not disappointed. Both the house and the grounds were beautiful--it was azalea season and it was in full, gorgeous bloom! We really enjoyed the tour and hearing the stories of the families who lived in the house and seeing their things. Some really fascinating architecture, including the giant pocket doors and the windows with the half doors. Just a great example of American history and we're glad we visited!

It wasn't open when we went. No idea if it's any good. Probably was a place where black people were abused. Would be interested to see if "the help" was given credit for making the place run at below market cost.

Tour was excellant! Highly recommended. If you into shooting pix, your camera may shoot on it's own. Mine did. Great history.

Albert Abrams

Nice tour but someone needs to explain to the lovely young (16yo docent) belle that slavery was WRONG and not a matter of opinion. It doesn't matter how nice they were to their slaves (I guess nice is better than the alternative).

Wow, what a place! The grounds (live oaks), waterfall garden, and the large home were simply amazing. I was greated promptly in the gift shop and shown the restroom prior to the tour. Facilities were clean and doors closed and latched (a treat in an older home). Great tour commenced of the upper level of the home with a discription of owners, their families, businesses, and times. The home is well maintained and filled with period paintings, mirrors, antique furniture, china dishes. Beautiful textiles too. The upper front outside staircase needed some maintenance (falling apart) but rest of home was in excellent condition. Dont miss this home! Its in a charming neighborhood and is one of the nicest homes to tour in town.

Great little property, with fascinating period pieces in the huge house, interesting history, and surrounded by absolutely beautiful live oaks. The guided tour was very informative and was very worth the cost. I almost wish we had more time to view all of the little pieces in each room.

This was a lovely house, and beautifully maintained and restored. I was mostly impressed and enchanted with the neighborhood and history of the surrounding homes. I toured this place with my (large) family, and I need to give a shout out to the staff at this place for handling this group very well.

Great tour of the historic Victorian Oakleigh House. Our guide was very sweet and seemed to love telling us the history of the different familes that owned the house before it became an historic site.
