The nostalgia of this place will give you goosebumps for sure...

A must see! Don't judge this book by its cover. Powerful, inspirational, poignant. A visit to this museum, a walk across the Edmund Pettis bridge, and lunch at any one of Selma's hometown gems....what a wonderful way to spend the day with family. This museum is a great destination for a family day trip.

I visited this museum in 1999, when it was at the other building. I was taken on a tour by Joanne Bland. She was wonderful. I enjoyed seeing the footprints, the shrine to the slain civil rights workers, the infamous "Colored" signs (I had my picture taken in front of them with Joanne, a beautiful African American woman). I loved how everybody made me feel right at home. I had special permission to stand on the rickety old balcony to have my picture taken with the Edmond Pettus Bridge behind me. The tour and employees were wonderful. Go see it and enjoy a positive look at American history. Equality is for everybody.

A terrific Museum. The staff is top-notch. Well-versed in the local history of the Voting Rights struggle. They actually interviewed hundreds of individuals who campaign for equal voting rights during the 1960s. Those testimonies are directly integrated into the tours.

For the love of this Country don't allow your children to miss this historic landmark. I realize now that there is so much we take for granted including our right to vote. We forget or perhaps were never even taught in school this incredible history how hard pressed we were to get the right to vote everyone. This museum makes that struggle come alive.

Kisha Rainey

I love it because Our Ancestors and the people fought for us to vote and I Salute them and feel very grateful to be there to appreciate what they have done.

Mr. Sam Walker is a gem of a person jam packed with Civil Rights history! He is a wonderful story teller who draws you in with his expressive descriptions of the events. What a treat for our 56 singers to learn about the movement that lead to the founding of the organization they are a part of! Though small, the venue is jam packed with pictures & memorabilia from newspaper clippings to an actual Ku Klux Klan garb. My personal favorite area was the photos dedicated to the women who made significant impacts on voting & in politics. This is definitely worth a visit if you're doing a tour of Civil Rights in Selma.

Shuandra G

The museum itself is closed down and the monuments surrounding the museum and bridge needs to be better taken care of.

Yolanda Propst

Enjoyable with the exception of being harassed for money. It was a out door pit stop on a long road trip, a chance to stretch my legs.

Danesha Voss

All i could do was hold back my tears for just imagining the experience that my peoples had to go through to just vote. There is nithing to do here, but the experience is everything.

Great history! We passed through Selma and stopped at the Edmund Pettus bridge to relive history a bit. We stumbled on this museum and adored it! For only 6 bucks each, we got to help support a great thing for historic community. I learned stuff I never knew that day, it's really awful they don't teach us most of this in school. Definitely recommend for any history buff but Selma should be visited by everyone. If we don't learn from our past we are doomed to repeat it. Go see this awesome museum!

The National Voting Rights Museum & Institute in Selma, Alabama is an amazing journey through the Voting Rights Movement. It's staff is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and extremely hospitable. The museum is family friendly and offers an excellent educational experience into the lives of not just the leaders of the movement but the foot soldiers of the Voting Rights Movement as well. It is a must see on your Voting and Civil Rights Pilgrimage. It is excellent for school, colleges/universities of all ages.

Junshan Liu

What would you expect from a museum that is run by a family for profit? I was told that there actually was a better museum about the March in the city of Selma.

lewis fairley

The area was not as it was depicted in the movie. More Federal funds should be ear marked for the preservation of such a Historic area.
