Great little museum! We have been to Mardi Gras parades before. Now, we learned the back stories to the societies and the history of Mardi Gras. Awesome exhibits and very friendly knowledgeable staff. Would love to see where the floats are made! Don't forget to ask about 'Ralph' !
Very informative about history and traditions of Mardi Gras
Wonderful exhibit of timeless treasures from Mobile's Mardi gras history. Incredibly elaborate trains, costumes and crowns throughout the years.
I really learned a lot about what Mardi Gras really is after our tour. The tour was really long so we were tired of standing so long. I would suggest they seat you for the history part. Tour was about 2 hours.
Awesome history!
I got the guided tour. Very interesting since I didn't know anything about the Mobile Mardi Grass. Worth visiting if you in Mobile
Great atmosphere to hold a party. Gift shop ladies were great.
Beautiful and informative
Small but interesting museum with a variety of artefacts.
Nice and informative
Try to catch a tour which will be much mor informative. The museum was more interesting than expected. Most of the exhibits are about the insanely expensive robes, tiaras, etc of the parade elite over the years.
.Very interesting. Very knowledgeable and friendly people.
Was ok.
Had such a great time here. Lived in Mobile 40+years and never been. Was well worth the $ and the time. Lots of fun!!
Awesome... a must see for locals and visitors!
This is must see place for everyone. The history of Mardi Gras is well documented work fabulous displays. And their team is so knowledgeable!
Loved it! Good value for about a 2hr tour; $5 per adult less for kids and the lowest entry for things to do in Mobile. The gift shop was great for souvenirs and to build unique gifts for your own home Mardi Gras nod. The galleries are amazing with the Mardi Gras King & Queen outfits. Saw Junior lads & lasses outfits and there was a short documentary to watch before going through the museum. There is also self guided tours via cell phone with which you can go to website to listen to. Highly recommend bring earbuds to listen with. Photos & paintings of the history and fantastic outfits through the years. I saw one photo of a reigning Queen that was from 1903, but there definitely many to drink in the fantastic regalia. Truly a unique experience to get a feel for the pagentry that is Mobile's Mardi Gras. Would definitely love to go to Mardi Gras in the flesh to see it first hand.
Great history lesson about Mardi Gras very interesting
There is so much to learn about Mardi Gras and the ladies at the museum do an amazing job at entertaining while they teach.
Must see for out-of-town people to learn about Mardi Gras. Best place to see Mardi Gras King and Queen attire and learn about the history of Mardi Gras.
Anyone who is interested in Mardi Gras or the history of Mobile should go! Fabulous gowns and robes. If you sew you have to see it.
Mardi Grad info & memorabilia from years ago. Beautiful dresses & masks to see. Guided tours!
I visited Mobile Carnival Museum on our 6 day trip to Mobile. The museum is Closed on Tuesday & Sundays. The admission for Adults $5.00, Children(0-12) $2.00. The museum is wheelchair accessible on 2 of the 3 floors. Parking onsite is FREE. It takes about 1 hour to tour the museum. Cameras are allowed in the museum. The Moda! shuttle does stop near by. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was next door to the hotel. The staff was super friendly. The lady in the gift shop told us all about the build and how it used to be a funeral home.
Is interesting and mysterious.
What a great museum! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable. I now have an understanding of Mardi Gras history and how the crewes work. I loved seeing the Queens' gowns and trains!
Delightful visit, knowledgeable guide. Absolutely worth the visit.enterance fee only $5.
Craig Roberts was Fabulous Awesome & full of knowledge & very nice.
Nice experience for a couple of hours if you want to learn about origins of the festival. Lots of focus on the beautiful costumes worn by the kings and queens of mardi gras. Two people cost 12 bucks with free parking right next to building.
Mobile is blessed with such great history one being carnival. A special time for locals an visitors as well to get the full experience please visit the carnival museum great staff
Enjoyed it! It's a nice little museum in Mobile and worth it if you're in town for the day.
Great time here. I didn't know that Mardi Gras had so much history. I would suggest a self guided tour, however.
Very interesting place to learn so much about Mardi Gras and also a fun place to host an event.
Was really interesting. My granddaughter loved seeing 'll the king and queen attire. Very worth visiting.
Good place to visit to learn more about the origins of Mardi Gras
Great place to learn about the beginnings of Mardis Gras. Loved it.
I give this place a complete thumbs up. Staff is extremely friendly. Very helpful. Souvenir shop is outstanding. I must see when you come to Alabama.
Fantastic look into the history of mardi gras. Stunning displays and lots of information to soak up.
From the moment we entered the door, we were very happy with our experience. With our AAA discount we paid $12 total for two adults. Staff very friendly and helpful. Displays were beautifully set up and there was a lot of information available. We had the option to take a guided tour, but opted for self-guided instead. You can either call a number and enter the display # to hear about that display, or can scan the QR code. The prices in gift shop were very reasonable. I highly recommend.
The festive atmosphere with its beautiful brick architecture will remind you ofNew Orleans in the French Quarters. Take a walk back in time through the museum's visual tribute and view trains and mantels of past Mardi kings and queens. Definitely worth seeing.
So much fun visiting here
This place is Ah-mazing! The history of Mardi Gras is explained in detail. The staff is friendly and willing to answer any question. The costumes, frowns and trains are absolutely beautiful. A must see! There is a great hands on section for kids and kids at heart. The gift shop is filled with wonderful Mardi Gras Memorabilia and trinkets. Don't miss out this Mobile treasure.
So much fun. It's a lovely building and the exhibits are thoughtfully arranged. Well worth the price of admission. Film is worth seeing too!
This place is great!! If you're going to Mobile don't miss it. The intricate work on the costumes you need to see in person.. and the guided tour is fabulous.
Awesome beautiful costumes
We really enjoyed our visit from the moment we entered. Very warm and friendly reception from the woman who sold us our tickets and started us on the self-guided tour. This tour was done using our phone as we keyed in the number of the display. A large room has a couple of floats and characters you can pose with (your face displayed in the cut-out). There are several floors and an elevator. The gowns, trains, tiaras and costumes are gorgeous. There are many interesting photos from the long history of Mardi Gras in Mobile. Restrooms are available and a nice gift shop.
If you go and tour guide Craig is available, take the tour! He was a well of knowlege and very entertaining. A lot of history and interesting facts! Took an appropriate amount of time and the price was worth the value returned!
Awesome museum where you learn Mardi Gras was in Mobile FIRST before New Orleans.
Must see if you visit Mobile
Really cool place. Much bigger than I thought. Plan to spend some time here. Definitely recommend seeing the movie first and doing the tour to learn about the rich history of Mardi gras in Mobile.
Great place. Educational.
Wedding here was very FUN. LOVED IT..
I had out of town guests from Denver and Tulsa. It was hot and drizzly so I suggested we go to the Carnival Museum. These girls are all “prissy” and love fashion and fancy clothes. Well, they loved the Carnival Museum and they were amazed at all the history and unique tidbits about Mobile Mardi Gras. Our tour guide was fabulous and very knowledgeable about the history of Mobile as well as the history of Mardi Gras. I highly recommend taking out of town visitors here. The gift shop is a lot of fun too.
This is a must to see. History of Mardi Gras. This celebration continues today. The elaborate and ornate designs of the trains. Absolutely beautiful to see generations of the coronation party.
Very informative and interesting. Staff is incredibly nice and helpful.
Everyone here was very nice and helpful. The items in this museum were breathtaking.
Always a great time
We took the tour for five dollars a piece, it was worth it. The tour guide was super informative, and an impressive display of Mobile royalty. Two thumbs up, it turned out to be a great time killer, before the Mardi Gras parade started.
Great place for fun, learning, and for events
A wonderful way to learn about the history of Mardi Gras. The displays from the different Krews are Amazing!
If you want to see whats behind mardigrass this is the place
This place is a gem. Great tour and great tour guide (local author). Mardi Gras is very steeped in culture here..between the old families and the mystic crews. The costumes and stories were astounding. The money and time and tradition that go into the costumes, 19 parades, and huge balls are just astounding. Very valuable collections. Highly recommend as a family activity. No lewdness here..just a fun museum.
Our family came here today while on vacation and we were blown away by all of the history and the beauty of the exhibits. Ms. Longworth was absolutely superb as our tour guide. We would recommend to anyone in the area!
I visit this place many times a year. I've taken children on school field trips, attending receptions and other parties. My favorite year of multi-visits was the year I was compiling ideas for my own train. Love this place. Let's hear it for Judy!
I really enjoyed the two hours I spent at this Museum. Yes, it does have a lot of dresses and trains that the kings and queens of various Mardi Gras seasons have worn, but there is a wealth of information about all aspects of the Mardi Gras season, it's not just sparkly clothes. A tour with a guide is available and also a self-guided tour using a smartphone is available. There is a good amount of History as to how this event evolved over the last three centuries, and also a lot of information about the influential families and Business Leaders of the area who are such a big part of Mardi Gras Society. Really very interesting. And a very nice gift shop with all kinds of cool stuff.
One of my favorites
This place was pretty cool. Lots of history and crazy costumes! Great for class field trips or just to take a day away from the rest of the city. Guided tours are available in addition to the ability to explore this giant house all on your own. Don't miss the Striker goat!
Such a cool place lots of history
History in stitches! We adored the individual attention our guide graced us with! This museum is a must see for anyone interested in the beginnings of Mardi gras and costuming.
Extremely great your and your guide.
Well done museum with great exhibits and knowledgeable and friendly staff. We missed the tour so on of the gift shop clerks showed us around.
For 5 dollars you can learn about yhe carnaval history of Mobile with guide. Local gift shops offer inexpensive suvenirs and unique Mardi Grass ornaments. Superb place to take your visitors.
Downtown Mobile museum with knowledgeable direction. Cool gift shop. Priced right!
We were given a custom tour of this magnificent museum on the history of the Mardi Gras in Mobile. The director of this museum gave a lively social history of this unique celebration in Mobile which pre- dates the celebration on New Orleans.
If you visit here take the time to get the guy for tourguide. He knows everything and is very entertaining. Worth the admission, it is the history of Mobile through the lens of Mardi Gras!
Great venue with a historic and fun atmosphere.
Educational and fun. I was up from Florida with a group of 35 from the Travel is Fun travel club. I don't remember our docent's name, but he was both entertaining and thoroughly knowledgeable. Overall a great experience.
If you're interested in seeing every costume from the queen and king for every year Mardi Gras has been around, this place is perfect. Only a small area dedicated to the floats. Cute place. The gift shop is outstanding though, with great prices.
New curator Cart Blackwell has many new ideas to enhance an already wonderful facility.
Loved it! So much fun! Be back again for sure
Loved it. Super friendly the costumes were amazing. We loved it there. The only Negative was we didn't plan enough time there. So plan to spend time chatting with staff and checking out the entire place.
I love this place. The heritage of Mardi Gras in Mobile is great. I really loved all the Queen's and King's clothing from years ago.
Very interesting. A lot of history on Madi Gras and it's beginning in Mobile.
Was a little underwhelmed. Arrived on a day with no guides available so did a self tour. Maneuvering between floors was difficult at best.
Always a great time there. Judi Gulledge does an excellent job.
Worst museum I have never been Don't waste your time and your money there One Man working in this place was extremely rude with a young 4 years old kid I have nothing to Say more... Just unreal
Beautiful, A must see, and a great venue for a fantastical party.
This museum is wonderful to learn the history of the original Mardi Gras. Visitors can take a guided tour or not.
Great museum with a great, enthusiastic staff!
Interesting place.
Well done museum, very knowledgeable guide and a surprisingly affordable gift shop.
This place has a wonderful history with elaborate costumes. The staff there is wonderful! We loved it!
It was beautiful and learned a lot of history about Mobile.
Not a great place to visit with kids. The receptionist was rude to mine.
Nice museum
The staff is so nice, very knowledgeable place to get Mardi Gras history
This museum was amazing. Loved looking at all the carnival gowns on display and learning history of Mardi Gras
Mobile Carnival Museum is an interesting place to go. With a wide assortment of historical and modern pieces of Mardi Gras art, they also show off the most intricate of trails and dresses displayed at these events. It is quite small, but a fun visit.
Place is amazing
Volunteer tour guide was awesome. Very informative and knowledgeable. Well worth the admission.
This place is amazing, learn & see real Mardi Gras Parade/King & Queen's memorabilia!! We truly enjoyed everything!! Just so beautiful!! #Irma
This was a very interesting stop to learn a little history around carnival (Mardi Gras) in Mobile. Spoiler: it started here 150 years before New Orleans and is more family friendly. The only downside is that our guide seemed to assume we understood more about the carnival than we did, so some of what she was explaining didn't really make sense. We were on a schedule, or we would have asked more questions, which I'm sure she would have happily answered.
Way better than I was expecting. The guided tour is really what makes it special with some context on what exactly you are looking at. Worth a trip.
Great place to visit! Very interesting!
Wonderful place! Way bigger and more interesting than I expected. The tour guide, Craig, was amazing. Enthusiastic, funny, and knowledgeable.
Really enjoyable. Rich in Mobile history and the clothing exhibits are breathtaking.
Excellent. The curator was very knowledgeable.
This place was AWESOME!!!! Lots of history about Mardi Gras and tons of neat little souvenirs. We had our Emblem Brunch for our organization here and I couldn't imagine having it anywhere else!!
Wonderful place to visit. People are very friendly and helpful.
Very fun place. Customer service was awesome!
Wonderful exhibits, the self guided tour was a breeze, the staff was amazing, and the gift shop was actually reasonable. I will definitely be going back.
Just wish prices were a little lower. I enjoyed the tour and my husband was dying from cancer but he wanted to see this place. He enjoyed what he could. He was in pain but endured this experience.
What an interesting place and a great history lesson. Craig was the absolutely the most wonderful guide and a true wealth of knowledge about Mobile. He is truly an amazing ambassador for the city!
Craig Roberts was very informative and taught us slot. He really knows his stuff.
1 of my most favorite tours in Mobile Alabama! Totally informative, educational AND FUN! Worth MORE then the $8!
Very knowledgeable docent. Lots of interesting information and history.
Loved it
This is a really big museum just about Queens & Kings of Mardi Gras. For $5 you have a good guide to enjoy your visit. My English is not very good so I did’´t understand everything but my eyes were very happy to see so many colors and strass! Mardi Gras in Mobile is totally different from New Orleans, less music more glitter.
This place will amaze u.
Learning experience.
So much more detailed than I expected. Great information, displays and guide. Definitely recommend a visit to learn about the cultural importance of the Mobile carnivals!
Great Learning more about your museum was good
Peggy is an amazing hostess! Super friendly and accommodating! I would go back just to see her! The museum itself was nice. I did a self guided tour, mostly without audio. I got lots of amazing pictures and videos. I went late, so I rushed through. I spent about 45 minutes in total there. I would go back though just to experience it more leisurely.
Very cool! Mobile during Mardi Gras is on our bucket list!
Great place to learn about the history of the real Mardi Gras.
I did not know about this place til Mardi gra 2019 and its great!!!
Went with a group from our RV park. Had a great time learning about the "upty" side of Mardis Gras. I will take the everyday societies any day.
Really neat insight into the Mobile elite culture and history of Mardi Gras. Beautiful gowns and trains, pictures and video.
Must see this place! What a great collection of Mobile Mardi Gras memorabilia!
Went to Ala Power party. Didn't care for the caterers.
Have Family Reunion there every year.
This place gives an interesting perspective on historical Mobile. The exhibits are enjoyable to see and read about. Take the time to stop by and check it out!
Find the history of Mardi Gras in Mobile all under one roof. Fun place for a party. Great place for a bit of history.
Who knew there was more to Mardi Gras than catching beads and moon pies! Very interesting place to visit. Even my friend who lives in Mobile learned a few things about the history of Mardis Gras in Mobile.
Fascinating history of the original Mardi Gras!
Relaxed and informative! Lots of history!
It is very interesting
Interesting guided tour Staff invested in Carnival.
The museum is informative but doesn't acknowledge the separate but equal times that led to the different associations. If that history was provided, it'd be an accurate tell of Mardi Gras history in Mobile. There is some MAMGA paraphernalia and information however. The staff are friendly and do their best to make all feel welcomed. It's a charming little place.
A ton of fun!
The best party venue ever!
Wonderful.....eye opening. Had no idea.
Great place to visit. Very knowledgeable staff, was very interesting the kids loved it.
Interesting place showing the local history of the Kings and Queens selected each year. Amazing costumes abound.
Really neat place to see the history of Mardi gras.
Fantastic place to check out. Very informative and entertaining guide. Highly recommend stopping by for a tour of the place.
This is a great little place with a pleasant tour guide, a short history lesson, a ton of breathtaking costumes, a fun room where you can dress up and ride a pretend float, and a great gift shop. Not too big, not too small, time to roam around freely, and photos are always allowed.
Nice recap of the origins of Mardi Gras in Mobile. However does not address the existence of two galas and Mardi Gras royal courts (one white, one black). Glosses over the racial divide and inclusion of African American Mardi Gras celebrations and costumes seems like an afterthought.
Nice set up for the history tour. Was able to explore during a party event, glad I went! Hope to take the little one to see
