I feel that for the price of admission ($15 per adult, $12 per child,2 and under free) you get your money's worth. They have four floors each dedicated to a different exhibit and hands on experience. They even have a area for the little ones. There is a parking deck ($5). They do have elevators. You can go to the water exhibits. It has different fish tanks and you can also touch baby stingrays and baby sharks. There is so much to see and do. They also have a theater inside. They have a combination price ($20 for adults and $15 for children). The staff does hands on science experiments with the children.

Got food at the cafe area and realized after I paid that they don't serve Pizza Hut pizzas anymore. It's just some random name now. Also, I'm pretty sure that they increased the prices on these no name pizzas that didn't taste as good. Great, now I will have to order whole pizzas from Pizza Hut to be delivered to my work instead of the convenience of walking next door for these smaller and readily available ones that taste like the cardboard box that they come in. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because at least they added dippin dots. Hope next time I go in, if I go at all, that they haven't replaced that too with some off brand fake ice cream that tastes bad and is over-priced like the pizzas.

An excellent experience for young children, our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter particularly liked the experience they set up for the six and under children. Parking in downtown Birmingham for only $5. Safe, convenient, and a good time. Military and their families get in free this summer! Highly recommend.

They were rude and unfriendly the only person that showed good customer service was the lady working the ticket section and one of the subway employees. As much as we paid for admission and 3$ for a bottle of water i expected good customer service we will not be returning.

Great exhibits! The dinosaurs were the kids favorite, but there is a whole little learning area upstairs with water toys, a massive jungle gym, play restaurant, farming area, mechanics garage, marketplace, and for station. The aquarium is decent as well, and the dome theater is great if you haven't been. We didn't get through it all in a day. Get lunch at the Pizitz across the street, if you can't find good food in there you aren't looking. Do recommend!

I love this place! I firmly believe that curiosity is one of the greatest traits of the human race and this place is all about expressing curiosity through demonstrations and activities. You don't have to love science to love the McWane center. The only requirement to enter is an open mind...and a ticket I guess...

Great place to spend time with the grandkids. Very clean and organized. The only thing that I see that could be improved on is having more staff available. We had questions several times and just had to figure it out on our own. Other than that, it was a very pleasant visit to the Magic City.

The center is great, but we went for a field trip and there were a couple of other schools that day...so, a few hundred kids running around (some unsupervised) wasn't what I'd call fun. And, we didn't get an option for lunch. It was chicken bites, small bag of plain chips, small pack of gummies, and a small bottle of water...with 0 napkins and 2 little packets of ketchup

Wow! What a fun place for my kids! We were just visiting Birmingham for the day and my four year-old and two-year-old absolutely loved this science Center. so did I to be quite honest! There's something here for everyone. The toddler area was a blast for them and had so many different activities for them to get their hands on and enjoy. They loved the dinosaur bones and birds on display that you can push a button to hear the bird sounds. They also had a great time with the huge multicolored display that you can put your hand or face or body into and make an impression. I'm not sure how else to describe that thing but it's pretty cool. I wish we had this science center where we live back in Memphis! Would love to go again

It can be a little difficult to find the way around because there are so many exhibits and so little signage. Went with a group of Pre-K through K. The organized events (classroom activities) were chaotic, but the children seemed to enjoy it. The interactive exhibits are definitely fun for the kids.

This place is amazing! I honestly don't remember when I have had so much fun. Everything is interactive! I played like a kid all day long. Awesome place for a family day but if you don't have children it's just as much fun for adults. They have a bed of nails, dinosaurs, bubbles, lights, an Imax movie just to name a few. There is just too much to list! My favorite was the interactive light screen (pictured below). We really had a great time. Honestly my boyfriend and I played like little kids all day long. I can't wait to go back!

If you've never been to the McWane center, it's just a great experience. I personally love the basement area, with the aquariums and such -- but they have so much more. And even if you've gone a hundred times, there's a dozen new things to do. It's great fun for the whole family.

It was fun then and was fun still too. The water world was more fun than the zoo! You can touch the animals in the tank which was fun. There were so many exhibits that you can really learn a lot from even as adults. We did enjoy getting most of it scene before the kids came as we went right at noon. Overall, it was a fun experience and really well thought out.

They just got a new exhibit on the 1st floor about genomes and how it contributes to who they are. It has many different stations and is a great learning experience. I'm always excited to see how they update the science center every time I go.

McWane Science Center is one of our favorite places to visit as a family in Birmingham. The option for an IMAX movie is great and our youngest loves spending time in Itty Bitty Magic City (which is like stepping into a kids sized town where they can pretend in a farm scene, vets office, mechanic shop, water play, grocery store, and restaurant - there may be more I'm not remembering, but it's fantastic). There are several floors of activities for kids that are all centered around learning science. It's a must do stop for anyone visiting Birmingham and for families who live here, the annual pass is a worthwhile purchase.

The place is fun, but slowly deteriorating. I've been visiting here since I was a child, and now with my child, and the McWane Center is starting to show its wear and tear. Some of the video monitors used for the exhibits are extremely old and barely work correctly, many of the exhibits have been removed for whatever reason, it's just sad. Still a fun place to visit with kids, but with as much money as they earn, I don't understand why they have so much empty space and worn down equipment.

Definitely go. There are three floors. The first two floors tend to be the same, but nonetheless it's always exciting to go, no matter how old you are. They change the third floor every month or so. It's very educational if you decide to read the descriptions, but if you're not a reader then it's a thrill regardless. If you have a family and decide you want to return, I would recommend their membership pass. Gives you free parking and pays for itself in two trips. If you are a solo runner, then it probably wouldn't be worth the investment. I hope you decide to go and learn all that it has to offer!

The adventure was super fun as always! And I advise anyone that is in the Birmingham area to go and check it out. Your kids will love the different floors of fun. And for the little ones that are kindergarten age in younger they have the coolest little play City. My son wanted to spend most of his time there but he had to share time with his older sisters. As I said before I recommend this place I know all of you would love it it's a lot of fun. Imax Apollo 11 movie isn't for young kids and as adult not a fan. my opinion it was a movie that was not shot in IMAX and I'm really not a fan of a movie that wasn't shot in IMAX format save your money and watch a documentary on Netflix. But the gift shop did have space icecream

McWane center is an amazing place for children as well as adults. Lots of hands on intertainment for every one. The imax theatre is so much fun to be in. We have been there several times . I love the feeling of being up in a hot air balloon or riding a wild roller coaster. Once the movie was about insects, so scary, we felt like tiny ants. Wow! This place blew my mind. My kids and I spent 4 hours in this place and I'm not sure we did everything. We watched a film at the IMAX theatre there and it was amazing. The amount of things that they have to get kids and adults interested in science was impressive. They have a bionic area where you can learn about how science is helping people with disability to get back to somewhat of a normal life. The museum had an area about wildlife and dinosaurs. There's a place in the museum you can lay on a bed of nails. How cool is that? There is a room designed especially for younger children and while we didn't go in, it looked nice. I can't say enough good things about this place but I can tell you that it was worth every penny!

This place was AWESOME! We took my 13 year old and his brother there for his birthday and we had a blast! The staff was friendly and there was plenty to do, four floors of different things to do. My only complaint is the food and drink pricing. Even the vending machines were charging $3 for a 20oz soda. If you go, bring your own drinks and snacks. Other than that, I cannot recommend this place enough if you have kids of any age. Even as adults, my wife and I had a great time. Loved it!

However, it is in need of some TLC which is often the case of interactive museum-like places. The prices were a bit high in light of the condition of the displays.

Very handicap friendly! Very hands on! There is something for everybody at every age and of all interests. Even the adults can learn something new while bonding with their kids. Some things were broke then now I went back for second time 3-4 months later same stuff still broke and some new stuff broke...and please dust!!!!! Duster are a dollar at the store!!!! Would think for how much it cost that they could fix or remove broken!

We had a great experience at McWane Scuence Center. There are a ton of activities for kids, both young and old! There’s an area dedicated for kids 6 and younger. Within that section, there is an area for kids 2 and under. My 11 month old daughter really enjoyed that area, while my 3 year old enjoyed the Itty Bitty section. There’s also a family bathroom within that part of the museum, which is super helpful. I would definitely recommend coming her if you have kids. FYI: within walking distance from the Hilton Garden Inn / Home2.

My kids had a blast and if you’re in the area, you should stop by. May wanna call and see how many summer camps will be there first. The day we went there were about 5 summer camps and we couldn’t enjoy a lot of the activities. Frustrating as a family to navigate through crowds of children, a lot of them unsupervised. They should schedule the visits better or promote hours without camps for families.

Visited with 12 and 13 year old. Both found plenty of activities to participate in. The imax theater was fun. Center was clean and well maintained. We spent 4 hours in the center on a Sunday afternoon. It was not overly crowded, we were able to participate in all activities the group was interested in. Happy to see a family bathroom, entire area was handicap accessible with elevators and spacing between events. We will return.

Don’t waste your time buying a ticket online. Not only was the website glitchy, requiring four tries across four different browsers (explorer, edge, chrome, safari), but when you arrive the tickets you wasted your time and paper on don’t get you in. You still have to wait in the long line to get your sticker. So, there is no point in purchasing your tickets on line. Very inefficient.

Traveled here from Atlanta. Amazing museum! Very interactive and educational! Would have given the museum a 5, but the first floor wheelchair race was extremely insensitive to people with disabilities. Very painful to watch people enjoying themselves race in a wheelchair, while patrons in wheelchairs looked on. No one would notice the disappearance of this exhibit. Remove it please. The museum has 4 floors of great things to offer! This one exhibit will not be missed!

This was the second time that we went to the McWane Science Center. Last time was really awesome which was two summers ago. This time was around spring break and it seemed like schools were there and there was no supervision with a lot of kids. Our granddaughter's got pushed out of the way or people broke in line while the girls were waiting for something like the driving video game I guess you would call it, etc. This was my husband's first time and he wasn't impressed after I told him how awesome it was with my three nephews and three granddaughters two years ago. LOL, The grandkids still had fun.

This is a great place for young kids to about 12 years old. There is a huge variety of activities to do with all types of science. The shark petting and stingray petting zoo exhibit was very cool! Every floor has things that everybody will enjoy. The staff is very friendly. The price may be a little steep but our kids thoroughly enjoyed it

As a Birmingham attraction this is a good place to go for family fun. It's educational for the kids and there's a romp area where parents can settle a bit while kids run and play. Parking is free for McWane Center guests. Just bring a small car. The deck is old, and space is a commodity. However, the membership gets you free access to the Science Center and 20% discounts in the cafeteria. For locals and frequent visitors to the Birmingham area, it's hard to beat.

Great place for kids but it is not cheap. Plan to stay all day. Kids younger than 5 have difficulty sitting through the IMAX movie so if you try it sit somewhere close to an exit point

Was here on a school field trip. It was great. Lunch provided for the kids was perfect for them. We enjoyed exploring all floors. One thing I loved was when a member of the staff noticed the student I was with was having sensory overload, he asked me if we needed to use the sensory room. I was so excited. He said generally use is for 20 minutes just in case someone else needed it. Door was locked from outside so no one to barge in on us. Lights were adjustable. Pictures below of what is inside. 2 big bean bags, a swing, a water light, and a few other things. Also loved they had family restrooms available for use.

So much fun so unexpected! I was worried our large age range group 4-14 wasn't going to have a lot of interest across the board. My family and I love spending the day here. Majority of the displays are interactive encouraging young ones (and some older ones) to learn new things. The McWane Center gave my son the spark to learn about science and now it's all he's interested in. I highly recommend a family day here. Grab lunch in the food court or look for one of the many great local restaurants very close by.

The McWane center is great however Brittnie did not make me feel like I should have been at the McWane center. Brittnie was not friendly, helpful or interested in being at work. Customer service goes along way. I am a member here and today I feel like I need to rethink my membership.

The McWane Center was cool. They did have a monitor in the lunch area that was rude and weird acting to the little children. They need to keep an eye on her. But other than that the kids had fun.

A must see if anywhere near Birmingham, for kids and adults alike! Such a delightfully fun place, and with the greatest one of a kind IMAX theater! I love this place and my sons do too! Hours of entertainment and worth every dime! A cool gift shop, little cafe, parking deck, and on street parking. Bonus- you feel smarter after spending a few hours here, really. You owe it to yourself to go to The Mcwane at least once! Everyone should! You're worth it! Super fun and super cool!
