As you know, we don't usually stop to place reviews when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This is classified in the category of Historical place.
We were in town visiting and saw the signs for here. We didn’t realize this was her birth place so decided to stop by and check it out. Thankfully we got there before they closed and had time to look around. It was really neat, you learn a lot about her and her life. It wasn’t expensive and the kids enjoyed it as well.
A must see to learn the story if this amazing and inspirational woman. Tours (included in the price if admission) are less than 30 minutes with well informed, experienced guides. You can wander the grounds at your leisure. Don't miss this historic location!!
There ia not much to do in Alabama so I found myself at Helen Keller's birthplace. I however did enjoyed walking around the property, also the tour guides where very knowledgeable about anything you had to ask about Helen Keller's life. The house and buildings on the property where very clean and seemed to be in great condition. I was a little disappointed that the gift shop on the property was closed an hour earlier then the remainder of the property which closed at 4 pm on Saturday. it was a very well kept property with many flowers and trees and looked very nice and it would not be a bad place to just stop and look around for an hour or two. Also, the price per person was $6 or less with military or student ID.
Lots of interesting facts and items.
Wonderful place to visit. Make plans to see the play of her life
First time visiting, brought several children and everyone really enjoyed the play!
Beautiful home and grounds, well maintained. A very pleasant and knowledgeable guide gave us a tour and then we had all the time we wanted to look around on our own. Plenty of free parking, and a low admission charge. Very interesting and inspirational. I learned a lot that I didn't know about Helen Keller and her family and surroundings.
Very informative, reasonably priced, nice staff. Glad I went.
Very educational , enjoyed very much
This historical landmark is a treasurer not only for Alabama but all of the United States. It's great so close to Huntsville
Great learning experience!
An outstanding southern historically preserved childhood property of Hellen Keller. The birthplace offers guided tours of the grounds, with knowledgeable guides, about the struggles and triumphs of Hellen Keller as she overcame her disabilities if blindness, deafness and muteness.
We had a great time watching the play.
How do you not rate this place a five-star. Historically significant. I recommend that anyone and everyone visit this landmark.
Great tour. Lots of information.
Worth the time and fee! Beautiful home, beautiful life story, and beautiful grounds surrounding the home.
Wonderful place to visit! Helen Keller is so inspirational.
This is a wonderful place to visit. A lot of fascinating history. The historical society has done an excellent job in preserving this place. A must see if ever in Alabama.
Ivey Green is a nice place to visit. Alot of interesting facts about Helen Keller.
What a great tour at the birthplace and home of an amazing woman. Glad we went to visit!
An amazing woman, we'll kept facilities and very friendly, knowledgeable staff.
A must stop! So much history and a nice surprise museum. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The powerful story of this gem of a woman is an inspiration to anyone who will listen.
We loved visiting Ivy Green, it was very inspiring as well as informative.
The Miracle Worker Play was Awesome.
Skip this. The tour was not good. Everything referred back to the movie or talked about pieces of furniture. We learned more from the brochure at the hotel then we did at the actual site. The kitchen, cabin, and school house were all closed off. The tour guide was bossy and loud. There was nothing to tell us why Helen Keller was important. Again, grab a brochure and skip this site.
Beautiful and historical place! Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff!
Loved the tour
Great historic place to spend the day! We went on a beautiful breezy day and so enjoyed walking around the property. One of the best preserved sites I have experienced. The ladies who guide the tours and answer questions are so sweet and are obviously very passionate about the history and legacy of Helen Keller. There is a modest entrance fee to help with upkeep, but it is worth even more than you pay. Highly recommend and we will be coming back!
I took my 12 yr old granddaughter here on vacation from Chicago. We both LOVED it! Helen Keller was an amazing woman who accomplished more than I knew! But she couldn’t have done it without Anne Sullivan! Her home in Tuscumbia is a true American treasure!! I asked my granddaughter how she liked it and she said it was her favorite part of our trip!
Great history of a American Icon. Plus see the friendly neighborhood cat.
Take the time to see Ivy Green. If you can make it while the Miracle Worker play is performed, even better. Well worth the trip!
Great place to learn about history and an amazing person who contributed so much while overcoming so many challenges.
This was an awesome place to visit. I women giving the tour were very informative and very nice. Would recommend this to anyone that visits this area.
Beautiful grounds around the house
An awesome visit to a historic site. Original furnishings, not remade or fabricated. It was awesome to touch the actual well pump that made history.
The " Miracle Worker " is an awesome play to see, especially on the beautiful grounds of Ivy Green.
Very interesting and well presented tour. The grounds and the home beautifully kept. If you are in the area well worth stopping. During weekends in the summer if you plan ahead, you can take in the play "The miracle worker".
So neat to see her house.
You need to see this. Beautiful Southern home along with the history of an amazing Lady. Worth the trip.
Tuscumbia is a nice, peaceful town. Love it there
I didn't think I would care that much but when you see how she lived and listen to the tour guide talk about her life you will be moved to tears!
Informative, includes more than expected about Helen and her family, friendly staff, only $5 per person to visit.
Very informative, and immaculate restoration of the property. The guides are very knowledgeble and care about the story of Helen's life.
Been a long time since I have been there. Very interesting.
It is a beautiful historical place to visit. Everybody should know. And learn about her. The house and its annexes are perfectly maintained and you can have a complete view of her early life and what she accomplished. A must see
I did not think this tour would be as interesting as it turned out to be. Excellent a around! Very inspiring and interesting. Not to be missed.
Nice spot to check out!
I had the chance to visit years ago before Google maps was this big. I recall she was a subject of study when I was in 3rd grade. The experience of being there was unique in the sense that one can imagine how she was able to trascend into history given her limitations. A great place to bring the new generations of history makers, children.
Very interesting and full of history
This was such an amazing experience and so educational. It was a very emotional trip for me and I found it to be incredibly inspiring and informative. I would highly suggest anybody visiting here.
The tour of the birthplace of Helen Keller is like a trip through time to a different era. What Helen Keller did bent the arch of history in a new and better direction for the blind and deaf and our world as a whole.
You simply must visit if you are in Tuscumbia, AL. What a legend!
Beautiful grounds. Great story. I had never seen Helen Keller really speak until i watched the video at the end,go outside, watch it. The Lions Club, never knew her contact. Worth the visit!
Good place to bring your kids
Great tour guide great info, never new Helen's IQ was that of genius level. Also I thought she was born deaf and blind but she wasn't. Very well preserved alot of great historic items and documents.
What a neat little historical place. Def worth your time.
Loved learning about her early life.
Very good presentation on the life of Helen Keller. Many interesting facts and stories about her accomplishments.
Very interesting. Tour guides were okay, they didn't tell much information though
Really worth the time to visit. Helen Keller is inspirational and such a courageous woman!!!
We had a wonderful visit! The staff was very nice and did a great job of telling us about Ivy Green and Helen's life story.
We really enjoyed our visit and it was so fascinating to see her birthplace, memorabilia, and hear stories if her upbringing. The only point missing is because there is a lot more to Helen Keller than just the "usual PC" version we tell our kids and someday it would be wonderful for the museum to touch upon that too! The staff are above and beyond dedicated, friendly, and ready to answer any questions during their engaging tour. Definitely a must see if you are in the area. I can't wait to see the play someday.
This was a great experience. Well laid out, lots of information. Tour guide for house portion was superb. Lots of little known, highly interesting information. Was really busy with lots of school tours. Definitely worth the time and nominal fee.
I loved this museum. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was very friendly. Admission is very reasonable and was worth every penny. There is the main house, the guest house where Helen Keller was born, the water pump is in the back, and there is also an ice house and a kitchen building in the back. This is the site of the Miracle Worker play during the summer which is fantastic. I would recommend this as a tourist destination in the Shoals Area.
This is an historic place, meticulously preserved with lots of artifacts. The grounds are spacious with nice sidewalks and plenty of greenery. There are souvenirs but no food service. For a short time during the summer, “THE MIRACLE WORKER” is presented in an outdoor venue (see website for details). The volunteer hosts are very knowledgeable and just bubble over with southern hospitality.
Extremely interesting. I had no idea she was so influential.
VERY interesting and affordable place to visit! House is 199 years old. 85% original home artifacts.
Very informative...well worth the time and entry fee.
Very interesting. Nice tour of the very small house. The Lions Club section needs to be updated and cleaned up.
For starters let me just stay that I had no idea that Helen Keller was from here. I only found out about this place when someone was driving me around and giving me a small but thorough tour of the city. I had to stop and get out of the car to take a couple pictures. Just seeing the place where this amazing person was born was enough excitement.
There's a very good guided tour. The grounds are beautiful.
Wonderful Play
Very interesting.
Interesting great place to get knowledge
Better than expected. Interesting guide that offered tidbits of info not readily available from any other source. Worth the time if you have any interest in the amazing woman named Helen Keller.
The tour was very informative and if you go in 2019,expect a bird's next at the cottage.
Excellent place to take the family for an educational event.
We had a good time. My daughter has been so excited to learn about Helen Keller. That's all she has talked about lately.
Well worth the admission price. Very interesting history and tour guide was excellent
Enjoyable day trip.
Great tour and very fascinating piece of history.
So fun and exciting t Learn about her
Being in this timeless place where Helen Keller grew up was wonderful and serene. Knowing the story of what went on there and seeing the well really was awesome!
What an awesome individual with a lasting impact
Loved the tour and the k owledge of the guide.
Very interesting place. Perfect place to come with your family or with a school group.
I do not know? I could not SEE or HEAR anything!
Helen Keller, the Elvis of Tuscumbia. Very lovely home, and the tour guides are very sweet and knowledgeable.
Really cool place to sit and learn, very humbling.
Amazing, now I'm reading the first book Hellen Keller wrote.
Very cool atmosphere. I enjoyed serenity and the information that was provided about thw lions club and how it began. It was a great experience from what I encountered.
Awesome! She was quite an amazing human being. Great tour guide as well.
Very informative and the play entertaining
Super interesting historical site! Even with history being my least favorite subject, I never found the tour hard to listen to!
I have wanted to visit since I was a child. I went with my grandson on his field trip and it did not disappoint. Beautiful and awe inspiring.
Just a whistle stop for our party, but looks like a place you could spend some time at and be inspired. Outdoor theatre behind the house for summer time dramatizations.
Very interesting and a friendly guide.
It's the best place to learn history about Anne Sullivan And Helen Keller and her family
Really interesting to see and hear about Helen Keller
Small house but a lot to see. A short tour and then given time to take pictures.
This was a very interesting place to visit. I was just trying to spend up a little time, and decided to take a tour. I have no regrets, I learned a lot.
Wow, an education is a wonderful thing to have. We all learn in school about people and the courage they possess but, when you see up front it's a different experience. Great place to visit and learn.
You really learn a lot about Helen Keller and her life on the tour, the guides are very nice and informative. Definitely worth the $7. The grounds ate beautiful and there are a lot of interesting antiques in the house. Overall it was an inspiring experience. I can't wait to go back and explore the grounds a little more!
Helen Keller is my inspirational hero
It was so cool!
I saw the movie about Helen Keller and when I went to Alabama we went to her birth place.
Pretty property. Lots of stuff from the Lions Club without much explanation. That was weird.
Always a good performance!
If you are ever in the area, please take time to visit. This is the reasonably priced but beautifully detailed home of Helen Keller, where she was born and lived. I was in awe every second we were on the grounds.
Very good and very interesting.
After a very good tour of the historical house, my husband and I were able to walk around the grounds and see many interesting sites. Everything is well maintained.
Beautiful & very educational
Very small house - no where near the size depicted in the various movies. Great care has been taken to preserve this place.
An impressive glimpse into the past and into the truly amazing life of an extraordinary woman. Adults $7. Discounts for Seniors, children, military, and AAA.
Loved it!! And these women are too sweet!
Nice place friendly people great tour
This was much more than I expected. The tour was informative and interesting. I was surprised by the original furnishings. The exterior grounds were beautiful.
Very nice place we had a great time very educational.
Awesome experience. Alot of original pieces.
The ladies there are very knowledgeable
Came with my child on a field trip. Very informative! Beautiful grounds!
Great experience!
Very interesting place to visit. Would do it agsin
Take the offer for guided tour! EXTREMELY worth it!!!
Amazing piece of history, if your in the Florence, Alabama area is a must see
Beautiful grounds and well maintained. The tour guides were informative but kind enough to shorten the tour because of our young children. Later when we went back with a couple of questions they were more than happy to answer them for us. Fun to learn little tidbits we didn't know before going.
What a purely inspirational woman to have gone through what she's gone through an accomplice what she had accomplished. Every child needs to experience this place and her story.
My favorite place of all time
Love the place and the History. Sue Pilkington is such a great Host and made us all feel welcome. Top notch crew all the way around.. Recommend everyone to stop by and take a tour
Historic Place! Everyone should go!
They really do well keeping this place beautiful! Our tour guide was excellent in her knowledge of Helen and explained her life to us very well. You will need about 2 hours to visit around here. Our kids learned a lot. All children should come to this place for just the history alone but it makes for a great teaching moment.
The tours guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Awesome place and an awesome lady who runs the home Mrs. Sue Pilkilton!
Enjoyable show. The actors to a really ausome job
Many original pieces, including Helen Keller's clothing, Braille books, and the water pump where she first learned how to communicate.
What a nice visit, and the ladies are very knowledgeable about Helen Keller and her history. It's amazing what all went on in that house and on those grounds. Such huge success has! This is a highly recommended visit.
Very nice place well keeped up. Educational.
What an amazing woman!! Anne Sullivan was an outstanding teacher and friend. Hellen Keller is the perfect example of overcoming unbelievable adversity.
We had the whole place to ourselves. The tour guide was very informative. Worth the trip.
This was a wonderful tour!!! My 7 year old loved learning about Helen as a little girl! It doesn't take long, and is interesting. Also, just to hear about her life is a humbling experience. You should go!
The staff was very informative and happy to answer our questions. The tour tested the patience of our 5-yr-old, but we all enjoyed walking the grounds.
Great place to actually see from the history books!
Lots of history. I did not know that she lived until 1968! Came home and watched 'The Miracle Worker."
Great place for children to learn about our history.
To hear and see what Helen did to over come her handicappe was very enlightening.
Wonderful history, great sights everyone should visit at least twice!
American history at its finest. The inside tour is a must, then walk the grounds. The cat that greets you lives next door.
The Helen Keller Museum was a fascinating knowledgeable place of an inspiring woman Who Lived her world of darkness with no sound but she made her life normal in spite of her disability.
A wonderfully preserved home with beautiful artifacts and grounds. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Everyone at any age level should visit this historic site and city.
This is a great experience. A wonderful way to get a glimpse into the life of Helen Keller and how exceptional this great woman was.
We were in town for my SO to play golf. Took the kids here while we were waiting on him. I completely enjoyed it. Very small/short tour giving you the highlights then you can look around on your own. We didn't know the stories beforehand so we learned alot and it gave us the opportunity to research more. There is so much more to this remarkable lady than what we all learn growing up. The tour guides seem to enjoy their jobs and they are very kind. If you're even remotely curious or on the fence about visiting, I say definitely stop by. It won't take alot of your time at all, but what you walk away with in learning makes it well worth it. What an inspiration Helen Keller is and should be. Keep her legacy alive, especially in today's world where too many have a sense of entitlement and want an easy way out and everything handed to them without working for it in any way.
This place is a really nice little piece of inspirational history in north Alabama. We were in the area visiting family when I found this little gem. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We were there in the month of June and that is the month they have the outdoor play about the life of Helen, the month of her birth. The grounds are clean and there are plenty of places to sit for those who have a hard time standing and walking . the tour is also a good history lesson walking the grounds and seeing the well where she said her first words. We look for history every where we go and this was a nice stop for us.
As a girl I read everything I could about Helen Keller. She was such an inspiration. The realization that someone so impacted by loss of 2 senses could learn to communicate, be educated and live such a full and exciting life inspired me to become a Special Education Teacher. I want this for every student.
I highly recommend the any visitors to Tuscumbia Alabama should put on there places to visit the Homeplace of Helen Keller
A must visit if you live in or are visiting the Shoals area!
Very enjoyable presentation.
