Fabulous place to visit. The two gentleman were full of information and a real pleasure to talk with. This is a self guided tour but Larry was awesome and full of information we felt like we just came home. The Home is completely furnished so much to see and learn. Highly recommend. Outstanding !

Look folks, Montgomery, Alabama. I'll leave that there. This place is great. Exceptionally well preserved. Tons of historical artifacts. Nice little relic room. You can swing through quickly or take your time with a tour. Yankee Bob is the man you want leading you through the house. Make sure you swing by the First White House and meet Yankee Bob.

The gentleman working here was super nice. It was busy and he was all by himself, yet he made each person feel special. He gave the kids a piece of candy and even a bottle of water. Very well kept museum with a really nice display in the upstairs room. It's worth taking the time to see this historic building.

I've ALWAYS loved going to this place. Unlike a museum that changes displays; this doesn't. The rooms are still set up and displaying the same artifacts as when I was a child which I think adds to the curiosity. Considering it was the home of Jefferson Davis and all the items were owned or in his era, it makes sense :-) Its pretty small even though it's a 2-story home, so large groups (school, church and such) will find it a bit cramped. The displays are in each room of the house made up to showcase how the home was originally set-up and furnished. Because of this, the entrances of the rooms are roped off about a foot inside so very few people can see in at one time. Which is a hassle when you're waiting your turn in a group and only get a few moments before you have t0move on. They've gotten better though with group management, so it's still worth a pop in and a must see if visiting Montgomery for the first time. Its downtown so there's no parking unless you park in a deck and walk, or park next to a meter and walk! :-) Many people just park in the Archives parking lot and walk. It's a short distance away and the walk in actually pretty nice. Also, there's always the nicest and most knowledgeable volunteers operating it when I've been.

An unscheduled stop on our trip as we located it by accident and found it interesting.. the docents were very thoughtful and insightful. Many preserved items and only ask for a donation if you choose... Really enjoyed learning about Jefferson Davis and his family. Beautifully preserved home

We went for a "living history" event on Saturday, 4/14/2018. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The inside of this historic home was immaculate and well presented. The artifacts that were used by President Davis and his family were well placed for viewing and protected from the public. We will definately be returning in the future.

A must stop site! A big part of history. Wheelchair access is in the back. Second floor is not accessible but FaceTime solved that issue.

Very interesting history. The curator gave a great history of the house as well as Montgomery and the area during antebellum times. Many personal items owned by the Davises as well as items from that period. Regardless of your thougts from this point in history it is still an interesting place to visit. You can see the whole thing in 15 minutes or take hours to examine each article. Admission is free and it's right next to the Alabama Archives. Side note: the house was originally owned by Zelda Fitzgerald's great uncle.

If you love civil war history I highly recommend making a stop. It's free to tour the house and the greeter is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The house is in incredible condition and it is filed with artifacts from the lives of Jefferson Davis and his family. It also has other civil war related items.

Didn't have a chance to go inside but the outside is fantastic too! Huge metal ground map of AL with all the landmarks for each city. Its beautiful and the kids loved it! And you can walk on it and take pictures.

Good place to visit, Ample Street parking. Free entry Me and my wife visited this place with our daughter. We liked this place very much. It is clean and well maintained. Price is bit high though, but overall above averages , not extraordinary. I would recommend to check opening and closing time before you visit.

Friendly staff member greeted me as I came in. Well preserved home and artifacts. This is not the original location of the house. The exhibit also had numerous items from Davis himself; clothing, chair, pipe, family bible. Parking is out front, but metered, so bring some change. This location is immediately across the street from the capitol building.

I have traveled the country learning about the civil war and visiting monuments and sight. This "White House" is beautifully preserved with countless artifacts and period furniture. It is a self guided tour with a guide book and you can take your time reading about and looking at all the historical memorabilia. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Though the gift shop is small, there a wide selection of items. If you are visiting Montgomery this should be one of your stops, and it is free!

We need to continue to preserve the history of our nation, especially that of the War for Southern Independence. When I visited, the men who worked there were quite friendly and allowed me to play my violin in the parlor. Would rate higher but the Yankees only gave 5 stars.

This is an historical landmark you'll not want to miss in Montgomery, AL. Located across the street from the Capitol building, your curators are waiting just inside ready to help you explore the artifacts and beauty of a time long ago. The tour is free but you'll enjoy it so much that you'll be happy to make a donation before you leave. The grounds as well as the building are well kept for your enjoyment. Knowledgeable staff will share the answer to any questions you may have. And please, make sure you stop by the small gift/souvenir shop and make a purchase. And if you would, please tell Bob we said hello! He's an amazing guide! Groups are welcome but a scheduled visit would be appreciated.

Our greeter/guide was a transplant New Yorker who was gifted in History and Civil War activities..very personable and listened as We related our own knowledge of Charleston related history and the success stories of the South Carolina Negro Militia which helped save Charleston from being burned by the Yankee marauders.

Regardless of what this place meant at the time of it being created, this place is now a part of history. As someone who grew up in the north I never had the opportunity to fully learn about the southern history and how they saw themselves from an unbiased viewpoint so this was truly a unique experience. Regardless of where you are from, I do recommend visiting this place (it is free to visit) because there is a lot to still learn. It is a self-guided tour and I highly recommend taking the information books on the tour and actually reading it because otherwise it will just look like an old house. The first man we met upon entering was also so incredibly personable and extremely knowledgeable about the time period. There is also a small gift shop inside. Again, this place will always be a very controversial place but it is a part of history so we must accept the good and bad to improve the future so I recommend visiting this place and learn about it.

We were traveling through the area and found this site on Google. We stopped in and the guide by the name of Bob I believe it was, was absolutely one of the nicest men I think I have ever met. I visited the website while looking for something to take my children to while we are on vacation to see Civil Rights memorials this summer and visit some of the other history of the area. This place could be tremendously educational if it was done well. Sadly, the website seems to really admire the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis and southern Generals. In reality, the Confederacy and those men represent slavery and hateful racism and were treasonous. Try to get some better context.
