I have worked with General Purpose Movers on two separate occasions and both times were fantastic. The first time we hired them was to move large furniture and large appliances. The guys were very efficient and took what would have been back breaking, finger crushing work and made it look easy. The second time was helping my grandmother move into a new apartment. This included quite a few older pieces of furniture and antiques. Nothing was damaged and they were very respectful to us. Scheduling was very simple...not like dealing with other moving companies I have experienced in other cities or trying to rent a vehicle from a Do-it-yourself company. Their pricing was very reasonable and I would recommend them to other friends and family members in the future.

Adam and Shahan were timely, friendly and professional. They moved my items non-stop. I had a very heavy tempur pedic bed frame and they powered through moving that with no complaints. The one thing I would say is that they did not have several tools available due to another larger out of state move on the same day.

Really good experience. I booked them online, and they showed up on time and worked really hard. Two movers, Brent and Adam, worked fast and were friendly. I did a lot of shopping around and they were very well reviewed, so I was confident going in. They delivered great service and were reasonably priced.

I needed two pianos moved. With just two hours notice Ben and Marcus were here for a very affordable price. One piano needed to go from the house to the garage, and the other much larger and heavier piano needed to go from the garage to the house. They were fast, professional, and very accommodating to take this job on such short notice so late in the day. Kudos to them both. I highly recommend these guys.

I had to get a uhaul last minute because my full service move fell through on the day I was supposed to leave. I called GP movers asking if they could help me load up a uhaul any time soon, and they were able to come out the next morning. They went out of their way to make time for me, and they were extremely nice and helpful. They were really careful with all my furniture and managed to fit it all pretty well into a small uhaul moving van. The rates are reasonable too. I highly recommend them.

GP helped my wife and I move last week from our 2 bedroom house to a town home. Taylor and Justin were incredible. They worked fast, were friendly, helpful, and did a great job, especially with a beast of an upright piano that I wasn’t sure they’d be able to handle. We had a fantastic experience with General Purpose Movers! We were moving from Seattle to Pittsburgh, and our primary goal was to not have to wait several weeks to get our furniture after it was loaded up. Ben worked with me to figure out how to make that work and then made it happen. Ed and Taylor were efficient at loading up the truck, including working through some issues when our upright piano proved too much for just 2 movers. On the receiving end, Chris and Ben were careful and fun and got more help to make it go even faster. All around a great moving experience - highly recommend this company . . . even if you don't live anywhere near Madison!

I was referred to GP Movers by a friend several years ago. This is my second move with them in three years. Both moves have gone really smoothly, with flexible scheduling, on-time arrival, efficient packing/unpacking as well as careful treatment of furniture and house. In my recent move, Taylor and Jack were awesome at troubleshooting a problem piece of furniture that did not want to be disassembled (stripped machine screw) and I was able to pick up a replacement before they reassembled to avoid future problems.

I rated one star to start review, else I’d have given no stars. If they advertised as: “College Movers - we’ll damage your entryway and furniture requiring repair of both, require your help lifting to finish, and then we’ll argue with you that we should get full payment on the spot”, they would provide accurate representation of services. GP - if you’d like to apologize sometime I’ll amend this review.

The guys at GP moving were excellent. Courteous, friendly, and always hustling. We had an awful experience with a moving company in Florida and were nervous about finding another company online. Luckily we chose General Purpose Moving. Ben and Nick were awesome and it was even Ben's birthday. I would recommend them to anybody here in Wisconsin or anywhere else they are located.

The movers were on time and worked amazingly hard the entire time they were on the clock. The guys were friendly and careful with our stuff. We had a two truck move that came under the estimated time/cost because we had four solid movers working the job. We did end up having an issue with our table (stripped screws due to torque of moving throw multiple doorways). The owner personally came out to see what the issue was the same day of the move. He was going to repair it, but I had my father-in-law (who does carpentry on the side) repair it. The owner of the moving company did allow a discount due to this issue. Therefore, I do give them a five star, because they were fast, at a good price, and willing to resolve issues that may arise (without hassle). Lesson learned is to make sure to take the legs of the tables before moving them!

I would recommend this company to anyone I know! They were very responsive, accommodating, and reasonably priced. It was so nice to have 2 guys show up with the truck at your doorstep. No hassle with renting a truck, pickup, gas up, return, etc. You pay an hourly rate from the time they show up (they were prompt, which is great) to the time they are done. No minimum and no extra hidden fees. The guys who did our move were very respectful, friendly, and strategic in wrapping/ packing to ensure no damage. They were hard working and never stopped for a break. This is a wonderful company with trustworthy, hard working guys. The customer service in being so flexible on an unknown move date/time was refreshing too, as we all know many moves can be unpredictable! Next time you need help moving, call these guys. You won't be sorry. I will certainly be using them again in the future. Making the move stress free was so worth it! :-)

They never stopped moving unless it was on my account...which feels a lot less like someone trying to pad their wallet. They were priced incredibly as well. My girlfriend and I contacted Ben about moving into our new apartment. He responded promptly to all of our questions and the rate was lower than any other companies we contacted. Two young men showed up and they did a great job moving everything. Both of them were kind and professional. I had about 10 boxes full of wine and beer bottles and they all made it home safely. They were careful with the table and couch to make sure it didn't get any scratches or marks on it. I would definitely recommend them to any friends looking for a local moving company!

That flexibility was great for us to work around tricky closing schedules and avoid paying for movers to sit around between closings, as other moving services would have required. This group is great. They got back to my inquiries very quickly and even sent out a reminder for when they would be helping to come move me. They were very pleasant and friendly and the packing went very quickly and smoothly. I just moved from Madison to Chicago, so having them drive all of my stuff down was a God-send. Once at the new place, they unloaded everything and placed it where I asked, and never said a bad thing about the fact my family was running around like crazy people and we had disappeared for a while trying to set everything up last minute at the new apartment... 100% recommend these guys. The price is also incredibly cheaper than anything I've spent to move before. They've moved both me and one of my best friends now, and she absolutely loved them as well.

I called this group on a SUNDAY after frantically trying to reach every other moving company in Madison that was closed. I needed to get my boyfriend and his son's things out of where he was staying immediately due to an unsafe living environment. I got a hold of Ben and he said he was able to come THAT DAY and move my boyfriends things for me a few blocks down to my apartment. Now I wouldn't expect that they would be able to do moves at the drop of a hat all the time but I am SOOO happy and grateful they were available when I called. Ben and Axel did a great job moving our stuff, were fast, efficient, and courteous. I was so impressed that I booked them to move all of our things again in a few months when we move into a larger apartment. I highly reccommend these movers!
