We had a wonderful experience with The Other Moving Company! We sold our house and stored everything in Charlottesville, VA until we relocated to Asheville, NC 5 months later. After doing a bunch of online research, it seemed that every moving company in the region EXCEPT for TOMCO had a wide range of online reviews. All of theirs were 5 Stars, but their competition ALL had a pretty high percentage of horror story reviews peppered in with the glowing ones. (We ALWAYS read the online reviews before we do anything, and we had just had a less-than-perfect move INTO the storage unit by another company, so we were concerned to say the least.) We settled on 4 companies, and TOMCO was the ONLY one to come up to Charlottesville and actually look at our stuff before giving us a quote. The others all wanted my written inventory (which I provided) and they all priced the job significantly higher than TOMCO. But it was the reviews, not the price that sold us. When it came time to deliver, these folks earned their 5 Stars, no doubt about it. They were great at communicating, they showed up exactly when they said they would, they sent 2 men to do the job that some student-movers needed 4 men to do, and they were EXTREMELY careful with our stuff. Kudos go to Ronnie and Calvin (the professionals who did the actual work), Brian (the estimator/boss man of the operation) Diana and Lily (the office support staff who treated our calls and emails like we were the only job they were ever going to do). If I ever have to move again (I hope I don't) I'm going to figure out a way to get The Other Moving Company down here to Asheville to move us. They're the best!

Our first time using a moving company couldn't have gone better! Having gotten 5 bids from 5 different companies I found sorting through them very confusing as the weight and pricing varied significantly. Brian was kind enough to meet with us on three separate occasions before we made our decision on selecting a mover. His estimate was spot on and there were no surprises when our items were delivered. The professionalism of his staff from pickup through delivery, was excellent. We were in contact and kept updated as when we could expect delivery. I have moved often with the military, but downsizing and moving a parent's household is especially challenging and stressful. I chose the OMC for the job just because I knew of them and they seemed dependable. The moving estimate was very reasonable. What I received was such excellent support and service, it exceeded any expectation that I possibly had. Amy, Lilly, the pack up/move out and move in crews took such care of the details. The professionalism and expertise of the movers was such a huge relief to me. They just handled the record-breaking cold weather (with snow on the ground) as a matter of fact, and efficiently did what was to be done. They were great people to work with - enjoyable to have with us for the pack up. Family receiving the delivery said they had never seen movers so considerate and, especially, willing to put furniture where you wanted it. Without any reservation, I highly recommend them.

After hearing good things about this company from clients in Kingsmill and Governor's Land, I had them move a piano downstairs when I sold it and my house in Gloucester courthouse 5 years ago. When I needed to move a bunch of antique furniture from Surry county to Richmond, I called several moving companies in the Richmond area and none seemed to want my business so I turned to a company I could trust even thought they were two rivers away. The Other Moving Company was curteous and quickly sent out an estimator. The price was in line with what I expected, we got the job scheduled and it happened as planned. I was pleased with the care they used wrapping and moving my great-grandparent's antique dining room suite as well as my particle board shelving. The crew was extra helpful lifting and holding pieces so I could place felt pads on the feet. I would highly recommend this company for a large or small move.

This was the absolute most horrendous moving experience I have ever had in my life. Deplorable standards. Unprofessional. They tried to overcharge me on my move wanting me to pay for time that I was talking to them on the phone about the charges!!! Extremely rude and racist demeanor from Brian. Extremely condescending and ill mannered. The guys showed up to the wrong address, arrived at my location late, and one of them smelled of alcohol!! Yet they wanted to overcharge me and offered no concern or empathy for the late start or anything. KEEP YOUR MONEY! Much more professional and reputable moving companies exist in the area -- just book early!! I was short on time and went with this place but I learned my lesson!! PLEASE AVOID!!! Consumer BEWARE!!!!

They wrapped all the doors and door jambs with plastic. In my precious two moves I had a lot of damage to my furniture, but this moving experience was great!

I had a wonderful experience with this company as I prepared to ship my car across the country. Diana was a very easy-to-reach, helpful, precise and honest person, and the quote was fair. In the end, catastrophe struck, my car broke down irreparably and I didn't end up shipping, but I was able to cancel the transport without any problems. I appreciated all of this a lot! According to reviews there are way too many sketchy and terrible moving companies in this country. But this is really one of the good ones.

The crew worked very hard and were professional. My only complaint is we were estimated to need 18 wardrobe boxes, but only 6 were delivered on the day of the move. At the very end of a very long day, the men realized they didn't have enough of these boxes, and had to make the boxes on site by piecing together two regular boxes. When we unpacked our clothes that were in the makeshift boxes, half of them had fallen off the bar and many were terribly wrinkled. We were still charged for the 18 boxes at the end. I don't blame the crew, but I blame the management who didn't make sure that enough boxes would be delivered as estimated.

Strange and Unusual World

Talked with the salesman back on Feb 6th for a March 1st move and 2 big trucks were to arrive on that day for the move. On March 1st, 1 big truck and one small truck showed because of a last minute change on the companies part the morning of the move. Due to the last minute change the move was not finished that day and I ended up having to get my own crew from my company to help and finish the remaining essentials Mon 3/5/18. I called to see how manangement wanted to work this out since it was not handled properly and after a week with no return phone call that I had to make myself, management apologized but did not want to reimburse for me having to return to finish up with my own guys that theirs did not due because of time restraints the day of the move. I have read some of the positive reviews on here but every company doesn't always have a positive review and sorry it had to happen with me on this day. The crew was good but around 4pm kept talking about how they get off around 5pm. They finished up at 4:50pm. Will not use them again. I know I am not perfect but I will go the extra mile in my line of business to satisfy my customer and not leave them angry especially whens its our fault before the job even starts because of improper equipment. ADDENDUM: 4/11/18, Its hard to fill out a survey and write you honest opinion about a company when someone is standing over you the entire time and wont leave till the survey is completely filled out. Yes, I could write this down at the time but I didn't fill like getting into an argument right then and there since we just moved in that day. Unless a supervisor was at the job, then you don't know what happened that day. Its the customers word against your employee who wanted to just go home. He is not who I am arguing about anyway, its the the way management organized this from the start. I just want potential customers to read this so they can see that their are companies that don't want to admit when they are at fault and try to make things right. I do this everyday in my business and yes, it can get crazy with people on what they want but to satisfy the public and not get a negative image over time, you do what need to do to make people happy for repeat business. You may have some and I understand that, but I am not one and this is my opinion. I thought everyone was allowed their opinion today or is that not the case anymore !

These folks were great from beginning to end. The estimating process was straight-forward and they answered all our questions (even ones we didn't know to ask). The packing and moving teams were friendly, kind, considerate, and diligent (and we had a total of 9 different doing those tasks). The move went completely according to schedule, the estimate was accurate (no surprise bill at the end!!!), and everything survived our move across the state. These folks made a very stressful move much easier.

This is an awesome company. From the owner on down, all the employees make sure your move is successful. When we sold our house in 2018, they moved our furnishings to their storage facility. Then a year later, after our house was build, they moved it 700 miles. In this day and time, its a breath of fresh air when a company does what they say they're going to do and puts the customer first!

We had our own enclosed trailer. Packers were cool, movers were great, so I thought!! When we opened the trailer, what a shocker!! Almost nothing had been covered, our fishing reels were so bent until the tips broke. Our wood headboard wasn't covered and was scratched deep into the wood. Wood dining chairs weren't covered and had deep scratches into the wood. Large rugs were just thrown in on top of mower, with no taping to keep them together. Our stuff was basically just thrown in the trailer! We have only gotten halfway through the trailer & praying our furniture and mattresses aren't destroyed. I signed a waiver because I was told they couldn't guarantee the china cabinet wouldn't be damaged but they were going to try to protect it. We'll know soon! $1535.00 & I'm very disappointed because the guys were so friendly and I really thought they took pride in their job. I don't know if I can recommend them but I would certainly stay with them and make sure they take measures to protect your things!! I don't know how to upload pics unfortunately!!

1. The estimator arrived on time and provided a written estimate via email within two days. 2. The company kept to the estimate even though the actual move took place three months following the estimate 3. The packing crew arrived on time, were courteous, friendly, efficient, and most importantly careful. They did not skimp on materials. They carefully disassembled and wrapped furniture items that other movers had simply shipped as is. 4. They asked me when I wanted the van to arrive at my new home the next day 150 miles away and were there on time. 5. Like the packing crew the transfer crew was courteous, friendly, efficient, and careful. 6. They laid quilts on the recently refinished floors of my new house so as not to track dirt or scuff the finish. 7. They reassembled each piece of furniture that they had disassembled. 8. Not one item was lost or damaged.

Very good experience overall. They were very very helpful and bent over backwards to fit us into their busy schedule last June, when we needed to vacate our newly sold house. Then they put all our stuff in their climate controlled, secure, on site storage facility. And there it stayed, until our house was done/built, which wasn’t until March. Then we had to have them bring it up here to the snowy white north in Michigan! They made it in between snowstorms, the first week of April. Very nice people - I’d definitely recommend them!

We have used The Other Moving Company twice before. I don't know how they do it but the experience is even better each time. This latest move (of belongings from a storage unit and from our house) to a recently purchased vacation home was flawless. The estimator Brian showed up on time, was very thorough, and produced an estimate that was very reasonable and fair. The moving crew showed up exactly on time. They had to move items down stairs and pack some unusual items such as kayaks. The vacation house is the upper unit of a 2-unit condo so the items had to be carried up a fairly narrow stairwell involving two separate turns. There was no damage to either the items or to either house. These guys are good! I recommend The Other Moving Company wholeheartedly and without reservation. Paul L.

I am a general contractor and The Other Moving Company came out and mentioned to move our 3 car garage, office and attic would probably take 8 hours but he was conservative and priced based on 8 hours for 4 guys. My wife and I spent a day breaking down shelves and putting outside to help speed up the move. They said they would be there between 8am and 8:30am. They showed up at 9:30am and the new house is 25 minutes away. At the new house we built all 8 shelves while they were working. After breaking my ping pong table, the owner jacked the price up from his so called conservative $1,440 price to over $2100. His estimate was off around 45% . We had helped simplify things but his low ball price was shattered. They also put a small hole in my sheetrock.I was furious with the owner/estimator jacking us up and I agreed to pay $1,650 and gave him the broke ping pong table. I have used All My Sons before and had a much better experience. This company charged 2 extra hours for coming out and going back to the shop.
