I would like to share my experience with this organization and strongly urge you to re-consider doing business with this organization.
I used Award Moving Services for a move from Ft. Worth, TX to San Antonio, TX. in 2013-2014. Despite having the owner do a walk through of my home and receiving a "not to exceed" estimate, at the end of the day...with all my belongings on two trucks - I was given a bill for well over the not to exceed amount. My belongings went into storage for six months while I completed some out-of-state-job training and were basically held hostage until the complete amount was paid. During the six month time period they were in storage - I repeatedly tried to resolve matters with the owner - Carlton Ward - who never returned my calls. Mary C. - his "manager" would agree and then not follow through on verbal discussions.
Upon delivery of my belongings six months later - only half of the items were initially delivered. Many of these items were damaged (bed hardware missing, damaged bedroom furniture, damaged antique sideboard, etc.). It took several weeks to locate the other half of my belongings. Upon delivery of the second truck - more belongings were damaged due to extremely poor packing (antique coffee table legs broken cleanly off, liquids spilled all over items, broken legs on a new bedroom dresser, chipped legs on a nightstand). In addition, some items were still missing (dining room table top, office chair, kitchen items, ladder, computer monitor, etc.).
During a "warehouse audit" - FIVE months after the second delivery attempt, they "found" my copper top dining table and ladder and delivered them - although the copper top table had a big scratch across the top.
I was never contacted by the owner - Carlton Ward in apology for these events. The only compensation for thousands in damage & lost items (not to mention the overcharging to begin with) was .60 cents per pound by their "insurance company" - which amounted to about $600.
The employees who did the delivery - shared that they were forced to make the trips after the first one without compensation "on their own time" by Carlton who blamed them for the mishaps.
I originally went with Carlton/Award Moving Services because he bills himself as "Off Duty Firefighters" and is a minority owned business. As someone who has a firefighter in the family and who intentionally looks to support minority owned business - I cannot emphasize enough how much I wanted to give this organization business and the benefit of the doubt. But my experience has shown this organization is unethical - to its' customers & employees and unprofessional - in failing to deal fairly with a total service failure.
