REVIEWS OF Volunteer Moving & Storage IN Tennessee

Ralph Kolesar Jr

The team of Marilyn, Howard, James and Jack we’re responsible for the unloading of all our household goods. It took them two days to deliver all our belongings and not only did they do an excellent job but they did it with a smile. They were all very professional, courteous, knowledgeable, hard working and just a pleasure to have around. We wanted to publicly thank them and tell them all “GREAT JOB”!!! Kolesar’s

Efficient and timely.Excellent communication before and after the move.

We had a wonderful experience with Armstrong and United during our move from Tennessee to Texas thanks to Doug and Dena! They were very helpful, attentive to our needs, and incredibly flexible. The driver, Orlando, and the other movers were very professional, fast, and did an awesome job. We couldn’t be happier with our choice to use Armstrong!

Tony D

Awesome customer service, great workers and a job professionally done. All in all a great experience, well worth it to not have to deal with any headaches!

My experience with Armstrong Relocation has been excellent. The entire Armstrong Relocation staff pay attention to detail, communicate well, and every move was cost efficient. The entire staff is professional, polite and very well organized. They arrived promptly and were very easy to work with. They worked quickly and quietly without any damage. All the paperwork was well organized. I have hired this company three times. One move was across country for one of my daughters, another was to move my Mother's estate from Canada to my home, and the third time I needed a small load of furniture transported a few hours. I highly recommend this company. Victoria Fulmer

"Driver, David, had great communication! Spent the time to tag everything before movers arrived and called along the way." Chad D.

The move was mostly positive. We wish they could have done a better job delivering when we desired but Operations was unable to meet our schedule. Offloading could have gone more smoothly. The movers seemed more interested in getting our belongings off the truck and placed just anywhere so that they could get paid and leave. This was more of a third party issue however. If you use these good folks and have a guy named Steve, with gold teeth in the Orlando area on the offloading end, refuse to let him work for you.

-Their "professional" packing/inventory specialist, Doug Powers did an in-home inventory of all of our items 2 weeks before moving and GROSSLY UNDERESTIMATED OUR MOVING LOAD - forcing us to either pay DOUBLE on the day of moving, to add in a new container or hire a U-haul (which we'd hoped to avoid by hiring "professional" movers, but this was the cheaper option.) What's the point of having someone come out to take inventory if it's incorrect and forces you to pay more on the day of moving? He and his company should have been held accountable for their underestimate, not us. -Kept our stuff for 1 week before moving it, forcing us to sleep on an air mattress for a week. -MOVING DAY- only 2 inexperienced college kids (not 3 professional movers, as promised packaged our items.) A runner, was not provided to go along the wood floor and banisters were not padded as promised. The movers struggled with items, prompting my fiance to step in to complete the job and spare our large items damage. -As mentioned, SEVERAL ITEMS (TWENTY FIVE boxes [packed to the brim] a lamp, a bike, a night stand, a large duffel bag, 3 suitcases, a vacuum, a ladder, storage baskets, and a garbage can) couldn't fit due to Armstrong Relocation/United Van Lines inability to provide an accurate estimate. -MOVE IN DAY: the team in Philadelphia was professional and helpful (not the same team as in Knoxville). Immediately when the team obtained our shipment, one of the movers took pictures of the inside of the container, which had been haphazardly packed without ropes or bungee cords so they likely bounced around on the trip to Philly. The movers commented that EVERYTHING WAS PACKAGED INADEQUATELY. MANY OF OUR ITEMS WEREN'T EVEN LABELED. ALMOST EVERY FURNITURE PIECE WE OWN WAS DAMAGED (SOME SEVERELY) in the move. Some of these have additional scratches that were not there to begin with. However some of these irreplaceable items are severely damaged to the point where they need replacement or cannot be used. We placed a complaint through BBB and through United Van Lines/ Armstrong Relocation. They gave us some $$ for some items, but didn't give us what we requested or what our items were worth. Their reasoning was because some of the items were listed as damaged before leaving Knoxville - sure, some of our items had a scratch or two before leaving knoxville, but they didn't have the completely smashed side or shattered mirror that the moving company inflicted during transportation! If they had, why isn't that reflected in the paperwork from your movers? Also, we'd called Armstrong relocation to report the damages the day we found out about them and were told their claims rep, Amanda Piper, was on vacation for a week, but to take pictures of everything as evidence. No one told us not to throw items away. We threw away a bookcase that was in shambles, and therefore were not reimbursed for it as we didn't have it to show the inspector. Ridiculous considering their rep was on vacation and they couldn't provide me the correct information because of that. They run a very shady, crooked, business, bait and switch their customers, and leave customers with no recourse. DON'T MOVE WITH THIS COMPANY AT ALL - even if their paperwork, estimate, and inventory sounds good to you. IF YOU DO HAVE TO MOVE WITH THEM, TAKE DETAILED PICTURES OF ALL OF YOUR FURNITURE PRIOR TO MOVING. You can't rely on their college aged packers to adequately describe damages of all of your items. THE PHOTOS ARE JUST SOME OF THE DAMAGED ITEMS. WE HAD SO MANY MORE!!!

Great experience using United Van Lines. There was a few issues but we worked thru it. They are a 5 star company and well worth using. Mary Guzman our coordinator was great. We would recommend using them to anyone.

Movers were outstanding in arranging for and informing of arrival of goods on the address to which we moved! We especially appreciate the work of John and Brandon. Our house wasn't the easiest to move out of, but they kept smiling the whole day. Definitely would recommend!

Mary at Armstrong Relocation was very helpful with all of my needs. She even called me from her cell phone after work to make sure the movers (who were very late) had gotten there yet. She followed up with me numerous times and made sure that I didn't have any problems with the crew or any questions.

Aside from the ease in obtaining an estimate for services, dealing with the moving company was a disaster. Our mailbox was run over TWICE. Our alarm system was damaged to the point of not being functional, and our hardwood floors in our master bedroom suffered two large (several yard long) scratches when they removed our refrigerator from the home without following protocol of utilizing a protective cardboard walking path from the house. These would have been headache enough, but the mover then refused to accept responsibility on the claims paperwork (in spite of his verbal acknowledgment of responsibility for the damage.) Hours of phone conversations, copious amounts of time waiting on hold, multiple emails later, I have finally been compensated for the alarm system. My husband replaced the mangled mailbox himself. As to the hardwood floors, they had an employee from our realtors office let them in to do an estimate on repair. And although I had verbal confirmation that no action was to be taken prior to speaking to me (the homeowner), the movers authorized repair at the time of the estimate. This happened while we were in the process of negotiations with a home buyer and without any attempts to contact me either by phone or email. The result was that without knowing that any repair had taken place (or even that an estimate had been scheduled/completed) we negotiated down the sale of our house based on the necessary floor repair. Armstrong and United both refuse to take responsibility for their lack of communication and false communication that resulted in financial loss to me based on the damage they caused. Furthermore, they even refused to provide me with any proof that repair had been accomplished by way of an invoice or even disclosing the name of the company contracted to perform the repair. They even made my cashing of the check to compensate me for the money I paid to have the alarm system repaired conditional on me waving any right to compensation for the financial loss I sustained over the hardwoods. Unprofessional and unethical from start to finish. I will unquestionably pursue other options if and when it is time to contract another moving company.

Armstrong was truly a God send! First they were able to make an out of state move happen in 4 days! I walked in on Monday and Thursday the crew was there! Dena is our coordinator and helped me through the paperwork process helping me to see all the good that was happening. Marilyn is my driver and her crew, Howard, James, and Jack arrived at my door and I was so surprised at how "caringly" they wrapped and handled our possessions. The way things were wrapped and carefully and thoughtfully placed was impressive. I say that because we have a lot of stuff! Most of our furniture is antiques and this crew did a great job preparing them for interstate travel. Dena surprised me today and told me it was going to be Marilyn and her crew delivering our furniture earlier than we thought. So that we can get our new house set up and get on with our new life with our things! Thanks again, I trust the off load will go just as smoothly.

I used this company to relocate my brand new furniture across states and after 3 weeks of my furniture being relocated, many pieces were damaged! THIS COMPANY IS TERRIBLE! After signing my moving agreement with MayFlower Moving, I was not told that this 3rd party company would be assisting me with my move instead of actual Mayflower employees. It's took 3 weeks to receive my two bedroom shipment only to find out my brand new furniture was DAMAGED! The claims department had me fill out a sheet where I listed all my items that were damaged. My 3 teir dresser had the leg broken off, my headboard was scratched up, and the dresser was scraped up! The claims department never returned any of my calls and never made any type of accomedations for all of my damaged pieces! I would never choose this company to touch anymore of my things! I have been emailing the claims manager, Amanda Piper back and forth after 3 weeks of her not responding to any of my calls and left voicemails. She wants me to pay to have their estimated come back out when she knew prior to sending him out that the items were in an storage unit and there was no way for the estimator to get a clear look at all the items.

Do not use this company! ESPECIALLY if you pack yourself! They will refuse to list specific things in inventory saying they don't know what is in the boxes. Then your things will get stolen and they will say it never existed because it wasn't listed in the inventory! Had them pack a television. They removed the stand didn't pack it and it be never showed up. Had multiple things stolen and damaged. Also they will come out load your things in their truck and then move it to another location and hold it until they hire a trucker and then move it again so it get multiple wear and tear. They won't tell you they are doing this!!! Avoid this company and Mayflower Moving! Worst experience!

If you choose this company... Good luck with moving as scheduled. They will make up excuses to miss your moving date. Having to pay a fine for not moving out your rented apartment on time? That's your problem. Terrible service and bad manner...

I have had the most marvelous experience with Mayflower Moving Company moving my possessions from a storage unit in Virginia to a storage unit in Kentucky. It should be noted that this review is in regard to the service I received from Mayflower’s authorized agency at Armstrong Relocation and Companies in Knoxville, Tennessee. It should also be noted that Mayflower was purchased by United Van Lines in the 1990s, so trucks with both logos are used. I spent several stress-filled weeks researching moving companies and ended up very confused and apprehensive when it came to making a final decision. I read many horror stories about botched moves with possessions lost, stolen, and destroyed, sub-contracting with unfamiliar trucking companies, and belligerent and abusive drivers showing up to load property to be moved and bullying customers into forking over more money than had been agreed upon or estimated. That possibility was unacceptable to me especially since I was at the destination, and my things were in a storage unit near my 87-year-old father’s home. I didn’t want him or his friends accosted by a nasty driver and crew. I also didn’t want any surprises with the cost of my move. My family had an happy experience with Mayflower Movers when I was 8 years old. With that in mind I decided to check with them. From my very first contact with the representative assigned to me I was put at ease. She explained to me that United Van Lines had purchased Mayflower before the millennium. She also told me that it was strictly against their policy to sub-contract moves and that they were not moving “brokers.” They were authorized agents of United/Mayflower Movers and would always use those trucks and their own people to move possessions for customers. She then settled my last concern by telling me that she would personally visit my storage unit to do a visual inventory and then determine a “binding” cost for my move…no surprises. I provided her with my best recollection of the inventory which I had not seen for more than a year, so she could give me an estimate based on that to see if I wanted to have her actually visit there to do an accurate inventory and then price my move. The estimate was acceptable, and she traveled many miles and spent a lot of time going there to meet Daddy’s friend and accomplish that. She then quoted a binding price that I could live with, and I have even now received a significant refund for paying more than was needed to complete my move. Also, my account was not charged until my things were loaded into the truck and on the way. The crews dispatched on both ends were wonderful people. The truck used was a United Van Lines truck. The crew that picked up my shipment in Virginia made careful notations about the condition of everything they packed up. An inventory sheet was used with each thing being assigned a number. When the 2nd crew arrived with my things in Kentucky I was given the inventory sheet to check things off as they unloaded and carefully stacked and arranged everything for me in the unit here. They separated things out that I asked for, and everything arrived in what looks to be the same condition it left Virginia. I have been told by the supervisor who took over my move after my original representative got me squared away with the inventory and price that I have 9 months from the date of delivery to unpack and check everything to be sure there is nothing missing and that there is no hidden damage. If there is, she will help me file a claim. The supervisor checked with me before the crew arrived in Virginia, answered all questions I sent to her by e-mail, and then called me again before the crew arrived here and then again after they left to be sure that everything had gone smoothly. I feel very well cared for by this company and will not hesitate to use them again if I ever need to move in the future.
