Moved over a month ago. The guys were nice but they played a little too much and made fun of one another. One piece of furniture was damaged (I believe he hit the door jam) and I pointed it out to the guy who unwrapped it. I also had to mention it at checkout to the other guy because it was not addressed. The “main” guy looked at it and took a picture and said he would report it. After No contact for 2 weeks, I called the main number and they said they would contact the person over the Memphis area operation. Still nothing. It’s been about a month. The main guy was more professional than the other two.

This company is way over priced and will work slow just for you to pay a lot of money. Be prepared to spend close to 1000 dollars for just a apartment for 3 hours. I will never use them again I have never been charge so much money in my life and they didn’t even pack just moved a 2 bed room. Waste of money because you will still have a lot of stuff left behind by the time they finish moving the big stuff. Highway robbery!!!!!!!!!!

Overall, I liked this service a lot. Movers were fast and efficient. None of my stuff was lost or damaged during the move (I did not use Black Tie's packing service). They didn't try to nickle and dime me for extra time or things the way some movers do. Just had a few snags. When booking, I was told it was 10% cheaper to move on a Wednesday than on the Thursday I had originally planned, so I changed my move date. When the movers showed up, I had to remind them multiple times to apply the 10% discount - it was as if they didn't know it should be applied. I was also told to expect them at 9 am, but at 9 I received a call stating they they wouldn't be there until 9:20. I guess arrival time was supposed to be a window, but that wasn't communicated very effectively at booking. None of these things are long-term problems though, and I'd probably use them again if I ever hire movers in this area again.

Best moving company ever and we have used a few. From booking to moving day was so easy! We had a 8:30 to 9 am arrival time. Called us at 7:45 to let us know they were on the way. Started moving at 8:15 and was completely done by 12:30-12:45. Stephen and the crew were so awesome! They put everything where you want it and have you make sure with a walk through.

This is now the second time I have used Black Tie Moving, and I have had a great experience both times. The two guys that showed up were awesome! Super friendly, very professional, and made sure to get everything out of my house in Midtown and into my apartment downtown as fast as possible. They managed to finish everything under the two hour limit and didn't break or scratch a single item (which is saying a lot, I packed really poorly). I will never get over watching one of them fireman carry a +100 pound TV stand all the way down a truck ramp like he was carrying someone's purse... Couldn't recommend them more!

Please do your research and DO NOT use this company. All my furniture was brand new and was ruined. They offered to repair some but the repairs were not acceptable. My brand new $2500 mattress was thrown down the stairs by the movers. The pillow top was ripped off. They offered me $200 in damages since it was beyond repair. Read everything you sign! The fine print states that they pay only so much per dollar value based on their insurance. The ONLY reason they stay in good standing with the BBB is due to this very misleading and unprofessional fine print. It’s ok if they ruin your furniture because they are not out much money. I am a single mom and take pride in my home and furniture. I am having to save money and replace everything that was damaged. Which includes all my main furniture, bedroom suite, sectional, pillow top mattress, children’s furniture, and picture frames. My brand new sectional is structurally broken and will no longer connect. Please please please NEVER use this company. They have become too big and are more concerned with money than customer satisfaction. The movers are typically extremely young and do not have proper training in moving. They must put up their own reviews and erase the negative ones. Everyone I know that has used this company has had a very poor experience. I contacted corporate and was ignored numerous times. Please let my life lesson save you from the tears and heartbreak I have experienced.

I hired Black Tie Movers out of Memphis Tennessee (Germantown Tn), to move a 2 bedroom apartment into a Storage Unit on July 3rd, I went back to my unit on August 2nd to move some of my items into my new home, I am shocked and what these people did to my furniture and stole a 32 inch T.V that was 4 months old that I watched them put on the truck, my sofa cushion is ripped beyond repair on a 2,000 sofa, a chuck of one of my dresser legs is broke, I have a antique horse that I specifically asked please wrapped because this horse is over 100 yrs old family heirloom never wrapped and legs scratched terribly and to add insult to injury as I was leaving my unit last night, I look next to my driver's door next to a fence at the end of my unit and there is my 16×20 of my 27 yr old daughter when she was 4 months old tossed over the fence like a piece if trash that is irreplaceable and I was charged 900.00 for 4 hours was quoted 800.00 for high end and gave one of the young men 500-600 dollars worth of baby items from my Grandson that we no longer used because he was telling me that him and his wife was having a baby and was ready because baby items was so expensive, I gave this items to him plus tipped these men 100.00 dollars, all of these happened after I left them at my storage unit to unload and I trusted these men to take care of my items and I am devastated at what these men did to my belongings after I left them.I can only hope I hear back from this Company ASAP, regarding what has happened to me but Please beware of this Company and I will Post the outcome of this situation for all other Consumers to inform of exactly how this issue is handled....as of right now BEWARE BEFORE USE OF THIS COMPANY.

The movers were careful and polite and arrived on time. The only gripe I have is the time it took them... 6.5 hours to move a 2-BR condo to a one-story house not more than 10 miles away. Every time they were heading back to the truck to unload, I noticed the guys looking at their phones and texting. They received several phone calls throughout the day which they answered. They did apologize for moving slowly and said they had worked a 12-hour day the day before. I don't fault them for being tired, but when you're being charged, essentially, $2 a minute ($119 an hour, plus $119 in an additional service charge), you want them to hustle a little more.

I didn't think we needed movers but decided to hire some for our move after being in our house for 21 years. Steven and Kyle were the men that were assigned to us. I'm so glad that they were. Wow, just wow! There was absolutely no way they could have been more perfect. They both worked so hard to make sure that everything went smoothly. The fee was charged by the hour and both guys were very understanding of that. They never sat down or slacked off! I have truly never seen two people work so hard. It was like they were our friends that came to help us move, not two people we paid to help. Thank you Black Tie Movers, and thank you, Steven and Kyle for all your hard work! I would highly recommend Black Tie Movers for any moving needs you may have.

They gave conflicting quotes. Provide one quote over the phone and before the movers took a look at what was to be moved gave a different quote. They increased the quote because they knew they would not make over the minimum $300.00. The mover even mentioned that I had very little and it should not take long at all. I watched them slow down to extend the time. One guy was even standing around instead of loading items that only took one person. He waited until the other mover told him what to move. I will not recommend this company to anyone. Wish the company I used before would have had an open slot. Black Tie is a scam.

Black Tie Moving in Memphis lives up to its name. Jimmie, Alan, and Jesse arrived at our home on time, wrapped our valuables, and handled them with care while loading and unloading. Black Tie moving came into my home and did hundreds of dollars worth of damage. I received the run around and empty promises to repair my furniture, but it is going on two months later and NOTHING has been repaired. If you are looking for a reputable and professional company you can trust check out Cooper and Cooper. Black Tie Moving is a joke, at best if you use them be sure to purchase the most expensive insurance on the menu because you will need it. Also be prepared for the movers to come into your home and ride the clock. They will be checking social media, eating snacks, going to the store to get snacks (on the clock) and damaging your furniture. Good luck should you hire this company.

What happened to my original REVIEW? Fairly decent move. The 3 laborers were uncoordinated like they were second hand crew -- no central leadership, for which I specifically asked "WHO IS IN CHARGE" no answer. 1) They over charged me, specifically stating that their "cigarette break" was off the clock, not. 2) they charged me full "credit card" price stating a 3.5% charge for credit cards; a point NEVER explained to me. So I wrote a check, but it still had the cigarette break over charge. 3) After correcting the check, with initials, it was still wrong. They owe me and I asked for the crew for manager to call, ignored. ----Forget it, they are no better than anyone else. Like ex-cons on a work detail.

There were some bulkier items in our move and even a few boxes that we couldn’t get taped correctly and they were so helpful with all of our chaos! What is often a very exhausting and otherwise stressful experience, was so much better than we expected. If you have a move in Memphis that needs done — you should ABSOLUTELY call these guys. Movers were careful and attentive with our furniture and wrapped it well for our rainy moving day. However they installed the fridge incorrectly and charged me close to $300 (after I already paid for a full day's move with more than three staffers) to come back out and correct it. The day one move was mostly seamless (with the exception of the fridge issue), but one of the movers who returned to correct the fridge issue days later was very rude. During the process wall was smeared with dirt and when my mom mentioned it, he told her to "clean it up."

Black Tie Moving in Memphis was very flexible with being able to slide the move date back when the house we were moving to was not ready on several promised dates. I had a 1900 sqft, 3bd/2ba house that I was moving across town. They were scheduled to pack the day prior and move the next day with a 4 man crew. Black Tie called a week out and said they did not have the crews to pack the day prior, but would augment the moving crew to 5 people at no additional cost to pack and move the same day. There was definitely cost confusion the day of the move because of this. When the crew showed up prices were not as quoted, but a few phone calls to the head office and they did honor the quoted rates. I do NOT recommend EVER packing and moving a house on the same day. The crew was very diligent early on, but by hour 10, they were more motivated to get things on the truck then perhaps pack as soundly. Also, they didn't put things together on the other end because the day ran long. I failed to notice this on move day (because the day was long) and had to deal with it post-move. Finding the screws to put mirrors on dressers and the pins for bookcases was a challenge and putting it together by myself was not possible. FYI: I had packed quite a few things before they came. Had I not done the packing I did do, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY they would have gotten the work complete. Overall the packing was quite good. They set aside a lot of the breakables to pack at the end. Sadly, see previous statement about one day moves, they didn't end up being very diligent later on and the things that broke on my move were some of the end-of-day items. They wrapped the furniture with something akin to black saran wrap that did a good job protecting it. It was raining on my moving day and the crew was good about putting blankets down to 1) protect the wood floors in both houses and 2) keep the water/dirt carnage down. I would recommend this moving company!

Initially, the crew presented professional and courteous; however, after a couple of hours into the move....they presented differently. They used profanity in their conversation with each other (while in my presence); they helped themselves to getting ice out of my freezer (without first asking my permission); complained about the boss and company and how they wanted to find another job; left their personal trash behind for me to clean up (cups and juice/water containers; and lastly they stored my furniture in an awkward fashion making it extremely difficult to get anything out of my storage. With a name like "Black Tie" and for the hourly cost...I wasn't very impressed. I wouldn't bash the entire company, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the crew that moved me last week. I'm not going to post their names out of respect for young African American males at least trying to work and make an honest living.
