We hired Humboldt for our move into our first home and we could not be happier with the experience. From the estimate with Dan to scheduling with Michele on the phone to the crew that showed up the day of the move, everyone was a pleasure to work with. The crew was incredible. They got the whole move done in four hours and we came in under the estimated price quote! All of our valuables arrived intact as if we had handled them ourselves. I will absolutely reach out to them whenever we have to move again. If you're planning to move soon, call these folks. You will not be disappointed.

Very frustrating experience. I hired Humboldt last month to move my parents from Florida to assisted living in Massachusetts. From the beginning my focus was on getting a defined schedule, since I needed to coordinate care for them on both ends and wanted to minimize the time they lived in a largely empty condo. The sales person said that she couldn't promise a specific date, "but we should be able to get there within a day or two of the target" So the United Truck that Humboldt scheduled arrived on a Tuesday to pack and load. My parents said the guys that showed up were very frustrated that they didn't have the right packing materials, so they were concerned about the process. As it turned out some of the wrong things got on the truck and some of the things were supposed to go did not get on. The truck was supposed to arrive 6 days later. I tried to call to confirm several times, and could get no information. Finally on the scheduled arrival date I get a call saying it "will be later in the week" No details. Finally three days later after multiple increasingly frustrated calls and emails, I get a call from Tim, one of the managers. He couldn't initially give me specific information either, because the truck was making multiple stops. But the next day he called and said the truck would be there Saturday, 11 days after the pick up. Then he called and said the truck broke down so it wouldn't be there until Sunday. The only good news was on Monday they sent some local unpackers to help organize things, who were helpful guys. And only a couple pieces were broken. During this period all of the caregivers were calling me daily trying to get information for their schedule. I had several thousand dollars of incremental care expenses. My parents were frustrated and confused about the schedule. And I found out later that I could have hire a dedicated truck to go pick everything up in half the time and 20% less cost than Humboldt. In no way was this a good experience. I would not hire them again.

The guys showed up on time, packed my stuff more quickly than I could even imagine and delivered it safely. Easy and professional!

Welcoming company to any person that walks in.

Excellent experience from this specific household goods Moving Line - from initial contact with main Logistics Planner/Manager, through the Estimator/Packers/Loaders and Delivery teams. Everyone arrived on time to perform that days job. I have moved coast-to-coast for work and now for retirement and have used United Van Lines for a few of those moves, always with excellent results. Everything was very carefully packed and delivered in the same shape. Each end-point team went overboard to ensure a good move, items were moved properly and all questions answered. For this particular move the Start point was a little less than desirable for a large transport truck, therefore, it required shuttling and that did not change the performance. I highly recommend United Van Lines for your moving needs.

Outstanding service from account mg. to the movers. Very professional and excellent at what they do!

Professional movers throughout the process. Didn't damage any of my furniture or home. Arrived on time and finished in an efficient manner. Reasonable pricing for my cross-country move.

Humboldt moved my family out of two homes and myself out of an apartment. They were very resourceful and accommodating with moving and storing. Everything went perfectly, and they packed/ wrapped/ and moved all furniture and other items carefully without breaking anything. I would 100% recommend them for both moving and storing purposes!

I haven't finished unpacking but I've seen enough to say I'm not impressed. My guitar was packed in a wardrobe box with an olive branch (sharp pointy branches)..Anyone else see a problem with that? We had so much going on the day they were packing I didn't see that one. I wouldn't think anyone would need to be told that's not a great idea. Our antique Snoopy figure was smashed on arrival because it wasn't wrapped in anything and in a very large box with an old wooden crate, also not wrapped in anything. I'm sure there will be more like this.

We recently used Humboldt to make a move from Boston to North Carolina. Our experience was excellent from beginning to end. The estimation process was quick, thorough and painless, with a guaranteed "do not exceed" quote as a result. The scheduling was simple, and we were assisted along the way with an assigned representative. The packing process was the most careful we have ever experienced (we are veterans of 5+ interstate moves), with special care given to high-value items. We were particularly impressed with the special crating for glass tabletops, and the treatment of valuable antiques. The moving day crew showed up right on schedule (despite the snow), and moved us out of a penthouse condo efficiently and safely. They took particular care to safeguard walls and doorjams. The move-in crew at the other end (North Carolina) was excellent. We've experienced poor service at delivery from other movers using pickup crews. Nothing like that from Humboldt/United. We were served by a professional crew used by United on other occasions, and the move in was wicked fast. Further, the crew assembled all the tables and furniture disassembled by the packing crew, and did not leave until everything was to our satisfaction. We would recommend Humboldt without reservations for anyone making a major cross-country move.

Very professional, helpful and friendly moving services. Went out of their way to make our move easy. Also reasonable compared to other movers. Highly recommend them.

Totally professional, and competent, and yet compassionate. Great job!!

Excellent experience working with Humboldt to move across country from Massachusetts to Seattle, Wa. All aspects of the move were professional and friendly. The moving schedule was right on the dime and all our belongings arrived safely. I would recommend their service to anyone getting ready to move. P.S, their pricing was lower than several other moving company quotes.

We've moved with other companies before, but never had such excellent service like Humboldt provided. Every single detail was handled perfectly. I liked that they called me to talk with me prior to accepting their estimate to make sure they could accommodate my needs. They were thorough, punctual, and the move cost much less than what they quoted, so they were honest too! Every step of the way I was contacted to make sure I was satisfied. The entire move from Spain to Rhode Island was stress free, thanks to their experience and excellent customer service.

Humboldt sets the highest bar for standards in our industry! They are attentive, great communicators, thorough, dependable, and just awesome to deal with. I don't work with a better agency than this one! I book over 500 moves a year, mostly using an agent from another city, Humboldt is always my first choice if I have a move anywhere near Boston! Liz has never let me down! She is an amazing asset!

Please AVOID!! I had a terrible experience moving my house and car from Eureka, CA to Pittsburgh, PA and CVL, VA. The local office with UNIGROUP/United- Humboldt moving and storage in Eureka, lied about the fact that they will be hiring a broker (Blue Start Corporate Relocation) who would hire some shady company from WA (West Coast Auto Transport) to move my car. Humboldt moving claimed, UNITED does the long haul by themselves until my car was on its way from Eureka. I realized this when about 2 days before the move a broker (Blue start Corporate relocation) called me to set up a time for the car pick up. I was again told by Garrett at Humboldt moving that this truck would only take my car to Sacramento and United will move it from there. The truck driver later called me to say that he needs a "range" on the pick up date, when earlier the pick up date was fixed for May 23rd by both United and Blue star. Car was not picked up in time but instead had to be stored at a local facility in Eureka for a week! I had to drive a rental car during this time. Car was delivered in time but with major damage to left control arm and was not drivable! The delivery guy (West Coast Auto) failed to acknowledge and asked me to contact United. I got my car evaluated by a reputed body shop, but United would not accept this evaluation and instead that an agency assigned by UNIGROUP-SCA, evaluate the damage. Even before that United Claims team 9, required the papers from West Coast Auto, which Humboldt Moving could not arrange, wasting several days! I eventually found the papers myself. SCA Appraisal underestimated the damages and submitted a claims which was $800 short of the final bill I got from the body shop. From the date of delivery it took about 45 days to get my car running. The claims team at UNIGROUP is now asking me to submit a request for arbitration at AMSA (to claims for the difference) which has its own costs and will take it own sweet time! They also would not pay for the rental car as it was not covered in my moving contract. UNIGROUP also moved by house and delivered half of my stuff to some other location. It took another 10 days from the delivery date for me to finally get my house, after several phone calls trying to locate my house with different information provided by different people at United. UNIGROUP and associates (Humboldt Moving and Storage, Blue Start Corporate Relocation, West Coast Auto Transport) have given a ton of stress and chest pain to me over the last 3 months!! They lied about the move to begin with, were slow with claims process, do not wish to pay the damaged in full. I have spent several hours of my valuable time dealing with this and it is still not over!! This company should be ashamed of themselves for the harassment they are causing me for EXTRA money I payed for the move as compared to any other quote I had received for the same job! I will not recommend these companies to any one!! RM

*Update-They did pay me for my time to clean the furniture, awesome of them but it was a hassle. Still missing screws and skeleton key for an antique desk as well as original pins for an antique hutch. Will update if we find or they replace. Items delivered COVERED in dust, person sent to clean made negative comments about military (us) and my "overreaxtion" to filthy furniture. WAY overpriced for service we received. We had a puffback from the boiler in the house we rented. Out items were moved to Humboldt to professionally clean (ServePro) and be stored until the problem was fixed. If you want to look through any of your items you have to pay for a chaperone stand with you-$40/hour. While ServePro cleaned our items we had to pay for this service as well. Our items were supposed to be vaulted in the large wood containers as soon as they were done being cleaned. It took longer than expected to get back into the house and storage is $600/month. When we did have our items delivered the large furniture pieces were covered in visibly thick dust-on all these pieces ServePro was just paid to clean! It started out good, Humboldt sent a furniture restorer-Jerome-and helper to wipe down all of the pieces the next day. His comments while on the way and at my house were rude to say the least. We are a military family and I had to drag my one year old to pick up these men at the gate and let them on base, Jerome didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a pass. They only brought Windex and paper towels to clean wood and all....... On the way to my house I asked if he knew about how long they would take, I had to pick my daughter up from school-"military move and don't usually have nice furniture so we should be done quick". After all we had been through I just wanted my stuff clean so I could unpack and have a house again so I ignored it. At the house while Jerome was wiping down his first piece of furniture he said "oh, it's not bad, you see dirt and freak out and call and complain and when you calm down you see its nothing". I told them not all the dust was visible but there was plenty that was. So after wasting time picking them up, dropping them back off and having them in my house I still had to reclean the furniture the "professional" Jerome was supposed to have cleaned. The gentleman from Humboldt cleaned perfectly and I didn't have to touch those pieces but since he took his time and did it properly it was 4 pieces out of 12. The ones I recleaned from Jerome had dust on the sides and bottoms, he didn't put any effort in apparently. I called Humboldt and they offered to send this guy back out! I said I didn't want to waste my time or have him in my house again, besides I had to clean most of it over the weekend so I could put clothing and items away. A manager was suppose stop call me back but it has now been 4 days and NOTHING from them. So much for "you get what you pay for". They are extremely expensive and left my furniture dirty-after we paid over $5,000 to have a company clean it.

Humboldt Storage and Moving offers the best in a moving experience. Everything went smoothly and was delivered when promised. We were very pleased with their professional service on both ends and will definitely use them again and also recommend this company to our friends.

Humboldt's front line man, Dave MacDonald paid a second visit to us personally when we were confused about the original estimate and charges. He stayed with us for an hour going over the contract. We signed it immediately after he left. Humboldt was the only company who was willing to have their sales person do this personal contact with a confused prospect. The packing, pick up and delivery to our new home was done with professional, competent men from beginning to end. There were a total of 9 people involved in this move. Each was pleasant to deal with, knowledgeable about their work and as thorough as the situatlon allowed. Highly recommended. I would use them a second time, although I hope not to have to make such a dramatic move again, over 1000 miles.

My experience with Humbolt was terrific. From the quote to the moving day on both ends, all was smooth. We were moving from Scituate, MA to Scottsdale, AZ and, as you all know, it was stressful. The Humboldt experience was not. Their binding quote was reasonable and when the weight came in under their estimate they refunded us something to the tune of $500. We were on a very tight schedule in AZ and Humbolt stored our stuff in MA (for a fee) that gave us extra time to get some remodeling done before our stuff arrived. This saved us $$$ as we would have had to essentially to pay two moves if we had store our stuff in AZ. Our move coordinator, Michelle let us know what to expect and was very responsive to our phone calls and emails. More on this later. Moving in MA was very smooth and the inventory system was very detailed. The only glitch was that the truck wouldn't start, but they called a mechanic and were on there way. In reading reviews about late deliveries from of all moving companies, we decided to take a bet on inefficiency. We lost. Humbolt/United had our stuff ready for delivery on the earliest possible day. Unfortunately for us, it was the same day that our carpet guy was installing the new carpet. Nevertheless, the guys on the AZ side were just as efficient and nothing was missing. Again the inventory system worked great for us. The only thing that was damaged was one wine glass, but let's face it we have too many wine glasses. Here is the real reason for the nature of this review. We hired third-party companies to disassemble and reassemble our elliptical machine, as we have a commercial grade one that is very heavy. Everything in MA went smooth. In AZ the team came out as scheduled, reassembled the machine and asked me to make sure it was correct. At first, I thought the arm bars were on the wrong sides (reversed) but I could not be sure due to exhaustion. The team told me they would fix it if it was wrong. I said no and signed off on it. A couple of weeks later my wife attempted to use the elliptical and said the arm bars were wrong as she could not reach them. I was in deep dodo as ! signed off on it. As I had read in other reviews that said that as soon as you sign off on something you are on your own. Nevertheless, I called Michelle at Humbolt and left a message as to our plight. To my astonishment, the next day I get a call from "The Crating Guys" (our Scottsdale reassembly company) asking if they could come by that afternoon and fix the machine. If felt like I had won the lottery, and sure enough, they showed up at that time and fixed the machine, I was out of hot water.,.again! Thanks Humbolt and the Crating Guys! We had a great moving experience. The team that coordinated our move across the country was very helpful and very organized. I especially appreciated our driver. He called me several times while driving to our new home in NH, just to check in. He also made sure that the arrival date to unload our furniture and household items would work for us.

Christine Wang

We had an excellent experience with Humboldt. The moving crew was on time, courteous hardworking and helpful throughout the entire move. David in sales gave us good advice on how to be prepared for the movers and Bethany and Ellen in the office checked in to make sure everything was going well. Did we have any issues come up during the move? Of course we did. But you can’t expect during a full household move that something unexpected won’t occur. When it did, the moving crew was quick to acknowledge it and we are now working with the claims department. Thank you to all the staff at Humboldt for their excellent service.

Tom Litle

We worked with Humboldt to pack and move from MA to UT. The Humboldt team was easy to work with and everything went off without any surprises. We are very satisfied and confident we chose the right moving company!

Do not use Humboldt Moving and Storage (United Agent) or United Van Lines (unless you are OK with damaged furniture). I strongly recommend you take your move to another company. We’ve moved 19 times in my career. This is first move that ended this disastrously. Here’s the background: When, Dave MacDonald, the sales person from Humboldt, came to assess and quote our move, I specifically asked him if Humboldt could guarantee that our newly purchased furniture would not be damaged in transit. Dave MacDonald responded, “We don’t move college kids, we move professionals like yourselves. Your furniture will not be damaged.” With that commitment from Dave MacDonald and Humboldt Moving and Storage, we signed the contract and prepaid the move. Additionally, we insured the move for $12,000. On the day of the move, our furniture was disassembled, wrapped, and transferred by Humboldt‘s employees to Humboldt’s Storage facility, on a Friday. My wife supervised the pick up. Humboldt’s employees did not record any existing damage on their loading sheet. She also asked if they would ensure that the furniture will arrive in the same, flawless condition. Humboldt responded yes. This was new mid-century furniture that we purchased for an apartment that I lived in for 9 months. The furniture was barely 6 months old and 2 pieces were purchased the day before the actual move. I worked long hours during my brief stay in Boston and spent the weekends at my home in Pennsylvania. Michele Harris from Humboldt called during the loading process to check on the move. The furniture was then loaded and successfully moved to Humboldt’s storage facility. The United Van Lines driver and a helper were at our home in Pennsylvania to unload late Monday morning. As they unloaded the furniture and brought it into our home, I became sick. Almost every piece of furniture sustained damage. The bedroom furniture had deep gouges in the wood. Not just scratches, but “deep” gouges and paint scrapped off of metal pieces. The metal bed frame had large areas of paint scraped off where you could see large areas of bare metal. Wood pieces had deep gouges (not scratches), leather sofa and chairs were scuffed with large indentations and torn fabric. A long, curved modern lamp was not even disassembled for the move but just placed on the truck. United’s driver blamed the loaders at Humboldt. It appeared as though Humboldt’s employees just threw our furniture into the truck. I was sickened. . . . brand new furniture (trying to load pics below). We immediately called Humboldt who blamed the damage on United’s driver. United had us complete a claim form and sent an adjuster to our home to inspect the damage. Within 8 weeks, United Claims department sent me a claims adjustment for $2500 to cover repairs to our furniture. We told them that this was brand new furniture, there was no damage before they picked it up, and we wanted several pieces that were severely damaged to be replaced. You can’t repair deep gouges in furniture or significantly scrapped off paint and have it look like new. We sent the check back by register mail and refused the settlement. United now wants to send our claim to the Association of Movers and Storage arbitration for resolution. How fair could this be??? When my wife called United directly to seek resolution, she was treated rudely by the Claims Manager (derogatory towards women) who more or less said, “We don’t care what you do!” when my wife said we were going to pursue other action. Bottomline, we do not recommend Humboldt Storage and Moving or United Van Lines for your next move. What a shame. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE with Humboldt and United. You will be very disappointed when your furniture is damaged and you get a meager resolution. If you have quality furniture and want it delivered undamaged, go somewhere else. Wishing you a better move . . . . with someone else! Jerry and Mary Jo Y.

I would highly discourage anyone from using Humboldt Storage and Moving (at least around Indiana). The people who packed up my belongings did a very poor job. They broke my Kitchenaid Mixer and packed it on top of shoes which should not have heavy objects on them. They also packed heavy products on top of some nice hats I owned which damaged and warped them. I had a few additional belongings (a computer chair and picture frames) damaged and broken on top of that. The people who moved me in to my new home in MA were wonderful on the other hand. They were quick yet careful with carrying my belongings up three flights of stairs.

karol mcgee

Humboldt was our second estimate, after the first movers estimate was way too high. The whole process was great. Very friendly, efficient staff. Communication was topnotch. I would highly recommend these movers and they did it all for half the price! They even credited us for the actual shipment weight being under the estimate. It was refreshing to deal with an honest company.

Humboldt and United were great with my move. They did not lose one item. Nothing was damaged. The men were efficient and did not waste any time. I would gladly use their services again in the future.

Great service for moving cross-country. Incredibly fast load and unload, and some of the best packing of fragile items I've ever seen. Not a single thing was damaged in the move, these guys are pros. One item was forgotten at the warehouse but promptly arrived at my doorstep the next day.

My family used Humboldt to move from Boston to Georgia. It was a full service pack and move. The packing crew did an amazing job. They were everything that I could have hoped for, staying late into the evening to get the job done. Everything arrived during the window provided, unloaded well, with only a few items damaged. That is were the very disappointing experience began. Every step of the claim process was difficult and delayed. Of the 4 items that I had damaged, 1 was repaired to my satisfaction, 1 was paid out to my satisfaction, 1 I repaired myself and didn't file, and the 4th I received compensation worth only 10% of the item value (of an expensive item). This particular item I had inspected by a repair tech, he noted the damage and I have clear documentation of the pre and post move condition and overwhelming evidence it was damaged in the move. Humboldt was unwilling to accept responsibility, delayed payment for months, and made me feel if I didn't accept their low offer I might get nothing. I was particularly disappointed in the move manager, Dave McDonald. Dave's commitment to me when selling the move was I would never have to deal with others like I would at a large company, that I wouldn't get the run around. That couldn't have been further from the truth. The claims adjustor was unprofessional at best and I had to have all ongoing discussions with him, when I could get him to respond, which at times took weeks or a month at a time. Despite the initial very positive experience with the packing, I couldn't recommend Humboldt to my friends or family.

John Mitchell

I've been a spare driver for Humboldt for the last month or so during their busy season. I've never ever worked for such a laid back company like this in the truckn industry. In my view they are what they preach. Their motto of no stress is very true. The movers I've met are all gentlemen. I highly recommend this moving company.

If there was a negative 100 I would put it for this company. They are by far the worst moving company I have ever encountered in my life. The owners are not polite anyone you speak to on the phone has a very impolite demeanor about their voice and even an attitude. The driver was disrespectful the people who actually did the work we're very helpful and kind and went above and beyond what was expected of them I just expected them to put everything in my house and then to have to figure it out because I didn't ask them to help do extra stuff and they needed extra things to be kind so I left them a hefty tip but as for the owners and the driver this company is absolutely atrocious you're better off going and waiting there I assume they start early in the morning and wait for one of the guys that works there and just say hey I'll pay you $1,000 if you move my furniture for me. Jim and Pat sounded very nice over the phone but in reality when I called to complain about the rudeness and laziness of the driver we're completely disrespectful considering the thousands upon thousands of dollars that my husband had paid them. The only people that actually did their job correctly wear professional and kind and helpful were the actual movers not the lazy asses who work in the office for the company only their Hired Hands that do physical labor to support their families

The entire experience was excellent! The company's president & CEO made the first visit to the location we were moving from. He gave us several hints about moving - what to take, what to think about taking and what we might consider leaving behind or selling. These hints reduced the total cost of the move by more than 50%. The president, Howard Goldman, came back to do the re-estimate. When that was done, we picked a convenient date for the move. There were two outreach follow-up phone calls just to check in to make sure all was still on schedule. The day of the move, the crew arrived on time - three very nice, polite, sociable, capable young men. They went right to work loading the truck. Done in plenty of time to get to the new destination in time to unload before dark. Moving approximately 120 miles. 2 hours after departing the crew arrived at the new location. All of the goods arrived without any damage and were unloaded with the same efficiency with which they were loaded onto the truck. All-in-all a great move - on budget, on time, very pleasant and helpful people all along the way and they all treated us and our possessions as if they were their own! Humboldt Moving and Storage - the company and it's employees get my highest personal recommendation!

THE WORST, WORST, WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Humboldt and their team moved us across the country. We hired them to pack AND move us. The packers did not label ANYTHING! We spent almost $20,000.00 on the move. 80% of our items showed up damaged or in pieces because the driver took everything a part and couldn't put it back together. When the items were delivered, the driver was going to "time out" and Michele with Humboldt PROMISED us that they would send a local unit to put it all back together, they sent a local unit, TWO WEEKS LATER, and they could not put anything back together. It has been 8 months and we are still trying to get our claims processed. I was told today that they would not replace the broken or damaged items, that in our paperwork that we signed we agreed that they would have the option to REPAIR them. They sent this unprofessional furniture repair guy to our house and he wanted to take all of our broken/damaged items out to repair them while leaving us with nothing! This is ridiculous. I thought it was impossible to have been inconvenienced even more, and then they do this. Humboldt is a SCAM! DO NOT USE OR TRUST THEM!

Alexis Smith

For someone who has moved on average every 2 years for the past decade, I had the best moving experience with Humbolt Storage and Moving. They were efficient and communicated extremely well. I will absolutely use them for my next move.

Dannae Sewell

Amazing experience! Emmanuel and his crew were awesome. I came home to find all of my items had been boxed and shipped within a reasonable time. I would highly recommend them. My company paid so I was not sure what I would have been getting but it has honestly changed my perspective about moving and I will never do it with out them again!

Tim, Jim & Jay moved my family and I across state lines and did an amazing job. They loaded the truck in the middle of a rain storm and delivered us in the middle of a snow storm, this didn’t slow them down one bit. This team did a great job and all three were professional, friendly, hard working and fast!

ACR Boulder

Stay away. This is a very bad company to work with. We scheduled a move from Boston to Colorado and it was a complete disaster. They arrived in the morning with a small truck to move all of our stuff to storage even though they promised that our household contents would be loaded directly onto a United Vanline. It took 12 hours because they showed up with 3 guys and required a second truck with a broken ramp. From there, all of our items were essentially thrown onto a moving truck with no padding and very poorly loaded. Boxes crushed, bicycles thrown on top, furniture directly strapped to sides of truck with no padding. Every furniture item was damaged and the loss is one thing, but the emotional toll is another. When that kitchen table that your family has sat around for a decade is ruined you will be devastated. When everything you own is damaged you will be broken, no matter who pays the claim. Lastly, the truck that arrived had no United logo on it. So something stinks here even though we contracted with United.
