I was holding out on a public post, but since I have complained to to the company via their own feedback site and have not heard from them to rectify any issues I have had, I’ll warn you all ahead of time. My one compliment is that every person is very nice and polite and they do work hard. Now for the issues: they are by far the most expensive movers o have used. I was only moving a 2 bedroom condo, with no additional storage of an attic or basement and it was nearly $2000. I had expected to pay a bit more due to having to store my things in the truck and for the mileage, but that price is absolutely ridiculous. I used Bert Hill in the the recent past and only paid $600 max. Unfortunately, the are not that careful, and some boxes were lifted sideways, tossing the contents, walls were dinged, my condo floor was scratched-which I didn’t motice right away and some of the miscellaneous things I had not yet packed, they threw ina box. For example, they put a heavy Rubbermaid container on top of my daughters guitar. To top it off, apparently there was a leak in the roof of the truck, and yes, the move was during the constant rain, but the leak damaged a number of boxes and things inside were water stained (because they were made of wood), and some boxes were so bad that the poor guy had to open them and carry the contents in carefully item by item (keep in mind they are paid by the hour). Of course these items were my grandmothers, and another box that was pretty wet that I noticed later was the box with all of the gaming equipment ( Xbox, ps4 and a wii), fortunately these things were not affected by the water. A number of other damages occurred, too many to list, but to pay such a hefty price tag for this quality was absurd. And you don’t usually see anything until you unpack. I hate leaving bad reviews, but as I said, I used the company’s auto review and mentioned some of this, hoping they would reach out, but they haven’t. Their one saving grace, as I mentioned, was that the men were all very polite, very nice, and the do work hard, as this is a hard manual labor job and I appreciate what they do. Unfortunately, the price for the quality doesn’t match up.

We used the moving company from a move from Northampton to Enfield(CT). On the morning of the move the movers showed up on time and were extremely nice and proficient in packing and moving. The actually movers did a great job and were extremely hard working. My issue was with the management. They came out and conducted an estimate and our final bill ended up being almost double the estimated quote, they quoted us for 4.5 hours and our final bill was for 7.5 hours. We went with the company based on price as we did look into other companies but at the end the price was on par with others main well known moving companies (eg. United) ) without offering comparable benefits like insurance, they only offer basic coverage for your move . I also asked several times how close to the estimate do you think it will be because we were literally all packed up only major lifting they had to do was take apart the bed and couch, the owner ensured me of the price. The price was not the same at all. They factor in the time to drive to your home from the warehouse and from your home to the warehouse at their hourly rate which really hikes the price. Also they offer to help you with packing things but then charge you for supplies on the back end such as tape if you use them. I would recommend them if you are doing a quick short distance move as they did a good job but really price out the distance and time for travel into your cost, we ended up paying over an hour just in travel time for the truck to get to us and back.

Five College movers are very slow in comparison to other moving companies I've used in the past. They also have you sign a contract, which, they DO NOT honor. I was quoted for 5 hrs at a rate of $120 an hr. with a 15% discount because of moving on a week day. When it was all said and done they went over 5 hrs (no problem & to be expected) but wanted to charge me $160 an hr. with only 10% discount. After speaking with the owner several times and wasting his employees' time as well as mine he finally granted me the $120 rate with no discount. I was and am still disappointed in his lack of customer service. I would NEVER use them again, no refer anyone else to use them in the future.

Was not happy with this moving company - had an in person estimate and the truck was not big enough to fit all of my things so I had to rent a U-Haul after my move to get the items that would not fit - in addition they estimated 8 hours and it took 11 hours. When I suggested they underestimated the amount of items I had, the owner was incredibly rude and told me they never get estimates wrong and blamed me claiming I had more stuff than anticipated which he wasn’t even there to see what I had - he told me they could count every item (yeah at $200/hour I want them to count every item ha!) . The movers seemed nice enough I guess, however I discovered after the move that they left their garbage at my old house sitting on the front steps and some moving supplies (shrink wrap, cardboard etc) which I then had to dispose of - this all should have been taken with them. They also promised 5 wardrobe boxes for me to hang clothing on in the estimate and the movers didn’t bring ANY - they then decided to wrap my clothes in a moving blanket and left them in a huge pile on my bed in the new place - would have been easier to pack them. Would not recommend this moving company - definitely not customer oriented and overall a very stressful and expensive experience.

Overall the move was really smooth, the movers moved things in and out quickly. We moved from Northampton to East Brookfield. I originally gave Five College Movers 3 stars because, truth be told, they showed up later than scheduled and then had to stop for gas which became an issue when it came time for the bill since charges are hourly for the first 3 hours and then charged every 15 minutes afterwards. I discussed this with one of the owners Pat who immediately contacted me to rectify the situation. He understood my frustration and made sure that the bill reflected the work that was done. He was professional and made sure that my issue was completely resolved. When I move in 3-4 years I definitely plan to use their services again. You may find a moving company that charges $100/hour or less but I really doubt they are going to give you the same quality of service and honestly that was provided with my wife and I's recent move.

I hired five college movers on the basis that they were going to provide a stress free move, the actual move date was 5/1/2015, when Luis was moving a piece of my sectional couch, it got stuck on the doorframe and caused a tear in the couch. After they were done with the move I let him know about the rip and he told me no problem, he will start a damage claim and Patrick will take care of it. Up until this point my experience was good so I trusted him that Patrick and Five College Movers would make it right. The report was filed on 5/2/15, after almost 4 weeks of calling Patrick to try and resolve this situation, today, 5/27/15 Patrick finally called me back and said he was sending a check and the amount was sent in an Email. The couch portion that was damaged cost me $800, they offered $60 for my compensation. When I said that this amount wasn’t going to work for me Patricks attitude changed from the nice helpful guy I had spoken with before. He even went as far as trying to elude that I only said something about the damage when the final bill was presented to try and get money back. I couldn’t think of a less professional way for a company to treat their customer. Five college movers was a good company to deal with until there is an issue. CONSUMER BEWARE, their insurance will not cover what it will cost you to fix your damage and when they say STRESS FREE MOVE, they only mean that if they don’t damage your stuff… A company’s true colors show when they are faced with issues, and I got to see how disrespectful Five college movers can be first hand. One star, only because zero isn’t an option.

THE GOOD: They are nice guys and very efficient. They do their job well. Management acknowledges their mistakes and did right by this customer. THE MEH: We scheduled Five College Movers roughly a month prior to our interstate move from PA to MA. The movers were scheduled to come to our new home at 2pm. We scheduled it that way because my husband works from home and had to work the following morning, so we needed to get certain things unpacked and set up the WiFi. We also didn't want to be unpacking at midnight. After a 6 hour drive, we arrived at our new home and received the first phone call that the movers would be arriving at 2:30. Then another call: 3pm. Then another call: 4pm. Then another call. You get the point. They didn't get there until 6:30. Long story short (too late), as far as I can guess, the scheduler at Five College Movers made a mistake and did not adequately staff for a busy Sunday. Our movers were held up for hours at another home that was both a pack and move and Corey, the manager, explained that they thought it was just a move. Corey himself came with the two other movers and they got the job done very quickly, and he also cut us a break on the $300 minimum because of the lateness. We appreciated that. In the long run, it's easy to get all pissy about mistakes, but if it's not costing you your life or your livelihood, take a deep breath and remember you're not perfect either! Our stuff is in the house, it's not broken, and all's well that ends well! Thanks, guys.

I'm so glad we went with Five College Movers! Their motto is "Stress-Free Moving" and it couldn't be more accurate. The ability to do an estimate over FaceTime was so convenient. They came to our old place early and had the truck packed up within the first hour. 2 hours later, everything was moved into our new place. They made sure that the furniture was wrapped up to avoid ripping the fabric. They even went the extra mile and carried our couch up 4 flights of stairs when it wouldn't fit in the elevator. They're based out of Western Massachusetts but now move in the greater Boston area, and they are definitely worth it. These guys were awesome. Thank you!

I recently hired Five College Movers to do a very difficult move involving a "gut-wrenching" (my term) Armoire from the 2nd floor to the ground over the porch railing. This and the other help they provided with furniture was done in such a professional manner. Problem solving was done as a team and the entire team of 4 showed up on time, had great work ethics and attitudes and were very respectful of our things. Would use them again and would recommend them to anyone.

I am sad to report hat my experience was horrific. I should have known right from the beginning when they showed up late and then pretty much blamed my wife for having the time wrong. The owner Patrick is an extremely arrogant and rude man. Next the price they quoted was not the final price They charged me 25.00 to pay "online" tried telling me that's the only way they accept Payment and that fee isn't even there fee. The way they handled my belongings was not bad at all until the owner came and "hurried" them through the job. Because he didn't want to pay them overtime is what one of his employees said. We needed to move that day because of the sale of our house and we had zero other options. But I am warning all of you that this company is by far the worst ever I've dealt with!!!! Be careful if there bait and switch scam and the unprofessional business dealings this company uses

Description Of Work: Moved my daughters 1 bedroom apartment 15 miles. Bed, Bureau, Hutch, Table & Chairs, Large Lamp, End tables and boxes. Member Comments: All went very well with the move. The young men were extremely polite and mindful of the items they were moving. They were careful and neat when walking in and out of the truck into the apartment. They put down runners to protect the carpets and floors from the dirt and wet pavement. They moved a 1 bed, a bureau, large tall lamp, a hutch, table and chairs, end tables and many boxes. I will use them again in the future. They did an outstanding job. The price I was quoted was the price I received.

I am sad to report that my experience with FCM was pretty poor. I had an appointment with them for a free estimate, but 45 minutes before the individual was to meet with me, he called to reschedule for the next day, stating that he forgot that he had a party that he was to attend. The following day, he not only did not show for his appointment time, but he never called. I waited all morning and into the afternoon, postponing a trip out of town while I waited for him to show or call, but nothing happened. I called and left a voicemail, and to this day I have recieved 0 correspondance. I'd say this is pretty poor customer service.

We moved a 20+ employee office. From beginning to end our experience with Five College Movers could not have gone any smoother. From doing the initial walkthrough for the estimate to when the movers were leaving, everything went as planned. The movers were like a fine tuned machine. I had Five College Movers move 3 rooms of furniture from Florence to the Cape. They were excellent ! Two guys arrived and wrapped everything in thick blue quilts and taped it all. There were items in the cellar , garage and upstairs hall. They started in the cellar. The next thing I know...they were done in the cellar ! They were so quick and quiet that I thought they surely must have missed something.....I went down cellar and they had taken everything that I had pointed out ! Everything on the truck was packed neatly and secured ! I definitely would hire them again and recommend them to others...they are polite, professional and efficient !

These guys are awful people because they are threatening my mother with lawyers and calling on different numbers and he made a number with our area code and we don’t even live in the same state as them. All because she wrote a bad review and they also want her to pay more money after six months. When they came to help us on the day they were supposed to come, they were five hours late and also when we unpacked our stuff most of it was not wrapped and most of it was scratched and a lamp was shattered. If you are looking for movers look somewhere else!

Five College Movers is a top notch moving company - one of the best I've ever used! My movers were efficient, kind, friendly, and fast. The move was quoted at 8 hours (including 3 for commute time between locations) and it ended up only taking a little over 6 hours! The guys went above and beyond several times - one of my desks wouldn't fit through the door to the office, so they took the door off the hinges to get it through - I didn't have to lift a finger. I would recommend Five College Movers wholeheartedly to anyone looking for help moving. I know that I will call them first the next time I need relocate!

Five College Destroyers They did an in-town move for me and damaged literally every item they touched. They even dropped my refrigerator on the porch of my house severely damaging both the refrigerator and the the window frame of the house. Not a single item they moved didn't have a dent or a scratch. And not a single item was wrapped or prepared as promised on their website. I filed several damage reports and phoned Patrick several times. They offered $60 for rough $2500 worth of damage. The workers clearly have had no training and are outfitted with improper equipment. Do not use them unless you can afford to have your house and its contents severely damaged. Updated 4/11/16: after seeing their response to my review you can add liar to their list of skills. To prove it I can share my receipt from them.

Mine was anything but a "stressfree move." When the estimate was made of my moving costs, I was promised that two trucks would be used for the move but when the team showed up, there was only one. It was clear from the beginning that things would end up very tight but unfortunately they didn't send a second truck until the end of the day, and by then everyone was tired and stressed. Perhaps as a result, several pieces of furniture were significantly damaged, and now 6 weeks later, I haven't received a satisfactory resolution. The damage would never had occurred if the truck hadn't been packed so tight, but I can't be entirely sure of this. They were tables and leaves that had large gouges cut out of them so they might not have been wrapped right, or they might have been crammed in too close to sharp-edged objects in the truck. As if this wasn't bad enough, at the end of the day I took a walk-through with the team only to discover that several drawers and cabinets hadn't been packed. It wasn't that a room was forgotten, but that the final check hadn't been made of the room before the next room was packed. I want to emphasize that the moving team itself consisted of individuals who were each friendly and helpful, and they clearly wanted to do as good a job as possible. The lead mover was terrific and clearly a good problem-solver but he just didn't have the right equipment. Failure of the owner to resolve my damage report constitutes another serious problem. Patrick warned me not to complain or I would get "nothing" in the way of resolution. Since he also hasn't responded to repeated messages and emails, and I haven't received a check, I figured I had nothing to lose by posting this review and warning potential customers. In summary, my rating reflects satisfaction with the actual moving team but dissatisfaction with the overall experience. In retrospect, although I wanted to go "local," maybe I should have gone to a more established company outside of the immediate Amherst area.

Five College Movers rule the moving world! On September 1st, a very busy Saturday, Entrick and Adam moved my mom from her house into an assisted living facility. The entire move was smooth sailing and my mom was so happy she’s still talking (bragging) about how well everything went. Entrick and Adam were the epitome of carefulness mixed with hard working oomph. Her special belongings were treated so delicately and she really appreciated the way they handled her things. When everything was finished they even told my mom how happy she would be there because it was such a nice place and she hugged them both! Just had Five College Movers move us from the Boston area in a 2 bedroom apartment to central MA and I couldn't be more thankful for them. Coming from a 3rd floor apartment in the Boston area, moving out can be exhausting and difficult. FCM recently moved me into my new apartment and my experience couldn't have been better!! The entire process really was stress-free for me. The movers were friendly, hardworking, and respectful. All my furniture and delicate objects were wrapped with blankets and additionally with plastic wrap, and nothing was damaged. Moving is generally pretty stressful for me, but that was not the case with FCM. The crew worked very hard together and were extremely efficient and polite. I was very impressed with this service, and will absolutely be using FCM again for my next move! GREAT service I would recommend them to anyone!!

The actual moving crew did do a good job and were careful with our belongings. However, we were charged over $500 more than the original estimate. When I asked how close to the quote the owner thought our move would be I was assured that it should be that amount, possibly even lower if items were all boxed up and ready to go. All items were boxed up and ready to go, and we even left 2 rooms behind. The owner did refund me $236 but I still feel that he took advantage of me and should have refunded me an additional hour at least.

This mover sent us a fancy brochure soliciting our business since we are planning a move, so we scheduled a live walk-thru estimate via their website. The website set up the appointment but then we got an email canceling it, no reason given. We set up a second appointment for this morning. 20 minutes after the appointment time I called. The person who answered was the guy who was supposed to be at my house. He said someone was supposed to have called us (nobody did) and told us we were too far from their office. They could only do a virtual visit. Too bad their website doesn't know that. We declined the virtual visit. Any mover that disorganized doesn't get our business.

Juan, Aden and Jim were terrific moving a friend of mine on 7/14/18 in Windsor CT. Prompt, professional, very competent, very polite, friendly and worked at full speed for nearly 9.5 hours on a very warm summer day. In addition to directing the house to house move, Juan single handedly mastermind how to pack a 10x10 storage unit to the rafters, taking great care with fragile boxes and weak boxes. We were so impressed, thinking it was surely impossible! The team worked very well together and kept their sense of humor. I've been a customer of Five College Movers since they were just a "rent a crew, bring your own truck" outfit. I live all the way up in The North Quabbin and I always call them when I need to move. Your help setting up the move was fast and efficient and it made us very confident that we were choosing the right moving company for our moving needs. The crew that helped us move, Jose, Abner and Dylan could not have been more professional, hard-working and polite. They showed up right on time, and they went right to work, and they did not stop until their work was completed. It was a pleasure having them help us move into our new home in Easthampton, MA. If you want to piss off your new neighbors hire these guys to move your stuff in. Banging and stomping and jumping on the stairs is just a perfect way to ensure a bad start to neighborhood relations. They may be good but lack of courtesy will surely be the downfall of this company if they don't have a long talk with their employees. Never hired this company for myself. This is just an innocent bystander's point of view.
