I booked AVIV Moving & Storage for a short-distance move of about 5 miles. I must give the movers I worked with full credit on dissembling and relocating the majority of the furniture; however (and this is a big *however*), my wife & I purchased a fairly expensive (~$4,000) American Leather Madden Couch to which I cautioned the operator when booking the appointment, as well as the movers performing the move, that it would require disassembly to relocate it into the new home.
The movers attempted to deliver the couch up three (3) flights of stairs through narrow hallways and even narrower door frames. It readily became apparent that the couch would not make it through the second landing and, after adding some artistic design to the couch with a fine layer of wall-paint and breaking the bottom-right-back corner of the couch, I was told that the couch could not be dissembled and that it requires "professional movers." (I thought this is what they were..?)
With the couch now back on the porch of the rental apartment building, I was asked what I wanted to do. I originally requested the couch be stored by the movers as I relied on their services to deliver the couch. I was told this would be an additional $90.00 usd per month of storage. Again, because I relied on their services and was told by the operator when booking the appointment that their movers "can break down a sleeper-sofa" and get it up to the new apartment "no problem," I was not going to pay for that storage fee. The mover contacted his manager to which the following appalling conversation took place.
The manager (Andrew _______) informed me that his storage warehouse is very busy at this time of the year and that he would give me a deal at $50 per month with the first month of storage free. Not good enough - the couch now had wall-paint ingrained into its fabric and a broken back which would require repair. I was merely told that "[Andrew] would check it out," or something of that nature. When pushing back and stating that the job was not completed, as the couch had yet to be delivered (tenant rights only to third floor, not ground floor, let alone porch), Manager Andrew told me "IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM." EXCUSE ME?!
Ultimately, I had the now broken-back and freshly painted couch returned to the original address to which I must now service for repairs. Save your time and certainly don't waste your time with this company if you expect any consumer-centric services or have anything *remotely* expensive to move -- FIND SOMEONE ELSE.
While notably upset by this, the movers did complete the rest of the job; albeit breaking one other of our plastic goods by mere negligence in an attempt to complete a job faster.
