EDIT: I have changed my review to 2 stars. Read update below original review. We had an appointment set up to do a virtual tour of our apartment with Kevin. We had set up the appointment with Maria and had received a confirmation email and text that the appointment was set up. On the day of the appointment we hadn't heard anything so I called the main line. I was told that we would receive a call or text with information at the time of our appointment. We waited until about 10 minutes after the appointment was set to start and called the main line again. The woman we spoke with told us she didn't have any information about Kevin and that we should give him until half an hour past our appointment time. Once it was 35 minutes past our scheduled appointment time I called again. The woman stated that she was unable to see any of our or Kevin's information. She asked if we were given an email or phone number for Kevin. I said that we had only been given his name in our confirmation email. We were told that nothing could be done until Monday as it was the weekend and no one was available at the local office. We will definitely be using a different moving company that respects our time. UPDATE: A few hours after the appointment time I got a call from Kevin. He apologized and offered to do the virtual tour at the time. I informed him that we had waited long past our appointment time and we had other things we needed to do that day. He gave a few different excuses as to why he missed the appointment (one of which was that he lived in a different time zone, which made me question why we would be assigned to him if time zone was going to be an issue), and stated that I should have been given his contact information. I told him I was given nothing except his name, which was frustrating, as there was nothing I could do when he didn't call. He offered to do the appointment any time that worked for us and we scheduled for the next morning. The next morning he called right on time and we had the tour. He was extremely friendly and kind, and he gave us a discount on our services for the error. Out of all the estimates we were given, Hollander was the cheapest option and I really liked Kevin, I just wish he hadn't tried to give a laundry list of excuses as to why he missed the first appointment. I would have rather he just apologize, tell us he was going to give us a discount, and move on. We didn't end up going with Hollander, but that was due to our move date being rescheduled and us deciding to do the move ourselves.

Only reason I don't give 6 stars is the driver listened to the damn GPS which out here in the country is wrong and friends have done the same thing coming to see us! We had 3 quotes from around the suburbs. Moving from Naperville to Galena. Chris who came to the house was by far the most professional and almost guessed the weight to the pound! The follow up the whole process before actual pickup was right on. P/U early the 12th and deliver to Galena the 13th. No biggie right? These guys worked so hard, had great attitudes, laid blankets and runners and nailed it. I couldn't have been more pleased. Then deliver it the next day Friday....wait a minute!! Friday the 13th??!! Ahhhhhh no big thing! Full moon?? Ahhhh no big thing right? So morning of we are waiting at the new house and get a call from the driver. The damn GPS took them down back roads which is rough enough for cars here in Galena and the couldn't turn back around. It winds through the back hills and is gravel and paved. It's a 55 ft. long trailer which they are usually 40-45, and on one bend its got one wheel stuck. Now a semi-tow truck! Finally he gets out and gets here and no way is getting into our drive so they have walk down the steep blacktop drive and it was slippery and cold and at least 100 feet to the door. Imagine each box one at a time. Worked for hours and hours into the cold night. Our new sofa came with a small rub on it and the driver took pictures and said no problem and noted it. This crew deserves praise for the "Friday the 13th" move from hell. They never gave up and kept their great attitudes from the beginning to end. I own my own business and it was inspirational how they kept it upbeat despite numerous set backs! The claims department quickly handled the damaged piece and sent a check out within the week. I couldn't have been happier and have moved at least 10 times and this was the best. We all face adversity......it's how we deal with it that matters. Kevin L.

The best! Very nice and helpful people. Just be aware, that if you exceed certain weight, you will be charged a lot on top of the normal price - something we were not informed ahead while filling up our crate. And when we were encouraged to bring even more stuff to fill all the free space, being charged about $1200 on top of the expected, was real surprise. In our case, ordering the whole container would be cheaper and also we could fit 10x more stuff.

We had a great experience with Hollander Moving. Everyone we dealt with was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We had never made a long distance move before. Our concierge was able to answer all our questions and provide useful tips to make our move as easy as possible. Our driver did an amazing job of inventory and packing the truck. The moving crews at both ends of the move did a great job of carefully packing and handling out items. Our items arrived on time and in great shape. I would definitely use them again in the future.

We used both their packing and moving services. The team that came treated all of our items with respect and carefully packed fragile items well. We learned that Hollander sub-contracts out the movers, but the team that packed our items was the same team that delivered and moved all of our items into the new home, so that consistency was nice because they knew exactly what was in each box and our furniture pieces. They did a great job overall. All in all, this was an excellent moving service.

Hollander coordinated my international move (Canada to USA) and despite some initial communication challenges between the central office and the local partner at the origin, the move was handled very well. Packing and pick up was very efficient yet careful and the same for the delivery. Border crossing had no issues or questions and it is because Hollander and their partner were prepared and checked all the paperwork ahead of time, and the CBP knows what to expect from their drivers, so good reputation counts. Job well done!

Hollander is a great company. When we moved they did everything they could to make the move simple and smooth. We needed to empty our condo on a Friday and store everything over the weekend for a Monday move in to our new house. No problem! We had a full storage unit that needed to be picked up. No problem, again! Everyone we dealt with was professional and courteous. Could not ask for better service. When we need them, we will definitely use Hollander again and can’t recommend them highly enough. Thanks!

The structure of the customer service component of this company is not designed well. They give you a great rep up front, Scott was knowledgeable and very helpful to find the right move size estimate and answered questions. After you sign, though, the contact went dark. I could not contact Scott anymore and he told me that it was not his job to handle service after the sale was made. His admin assistants were not very responsive either though ultimately followed up with the additional logistical info I needed (moving times / details about my building / loading zone etc). I felt I had to be overly proactive about getting the basic info I needed, I had no dedicated rep after the sale and it was extremely frustrating. I felt if I was paying $7000 in moving costs that this company should act like it it, and I was underwhelmed. The move overall was fine—if they had just stayed in contact more leading up to it I would have had a great experience.

Hollander moved our large household from Chicago to Athens, Greece. It was a difficult move, but Holllander (and the moving company that they contracted with to handle the Greek end) made the experience as seamless as possible. Our many things arrived--including large numbers of glass and fragile pieces--with only a couple of minor dings. We obtained three quotes for the move. Hollander was the most expensive, but Dave Hollander impressed us a great deal in 'selling' his company and we were absolutely delighted that we paid the extra money. Hollander is, quite clearly, the best there is for international moves. I assume their local moves are equally excellent.

I did not use this company but I had a horrible confrontation with their movers on May 19. I live in an apartment building. It is fairly large. The street in front of the building is narrow and its hard for cars and trucks (and people) to get in and out. Movers are supposed to use the open alley with a ramp to move items in and out of the building. When the movers came to this building on May 19 before 8:00 a.m. they parked directly in front of the NO PARKING sign and walked through two glass entrance doors in at the front of the building. When the movers moved items out o the building they also used this door and the handicapped ramp reserved for tenants and visitors. I mentioned this to the movers and my answer was 'F...K you. Mind your own business! We'll be out in 15 minutes." There were more ugly words and the 15 minutes was actually more like 3 hours. The movers never moved the truck behind the building to do their job. The alley entrance was clear and spacious. It didn't block traffic. There was a ramp to easy move in through the double wide garage door. The movers blocked the elevator with the items being moved. They blocked the hallways. The entrance was blocked. I contacted Hollander about this and was told that movers often had to use the No Parking zone because they needed to get in and out of the building quickly. Well, it would have been a lot quicker, faster and safer to use the designated entrance at the back of the building. I guess once I suggested the movers go move they didn't want to admit they were wrong so all they could do was swear and make threats and waste a whole lot of time.

We used Hollander for a move and had one of the worst moving experiences for my life, and I’ve moved 11 times in the last 21 years. They damaged a deep freeze, wine fridge, crib / changing table combo (that had to be thrown out, and over a dozen other items of similar expense. I would suggest another company for any of your moves.

Normally I would wait until the end of an experience to rate, but I don't see how Hollander/Mayflower/United can possibly improve the experience beyond one star at this point. First, the packing team took longer than expected to pack, so rather than make us wait around, they offered to lock up when they left - instead, they left all the doors to their house wide open. Not just unlocked, OPEN. Front door, back door, garage door - in Chicago. We moved out of state, so never would have noticed if our neighbors hadn't been kind enough to call us and let us know. Then, on the arrival end, we have just experienced our fifth delivery delay. On this most recent delay, they haven't even bothered to give us an ETA, instead we're simply told that our belongings will probably arrive within the original delivery window (e.g. three weeks after packing, instead of the original 1 week that they strongly insisted was likely). At no point did they call to let me know these changes in delivery dates, instead they let me call them and leave messages after they fail to confirm. With two children under age three, we've been without beds, cookware, toys, or clothes while trying to settle into a new, empty apartment and starting a new job. I've had to buy inflatable beds, paper plates/utensils, duplicate cookware and meals out, and if the late summer weather doesn't hold, I'll probably have to buy clothes. Unbelievable. I doubt I'll ever use any full-service mover again after this experience. PODs, UHaul, and three guys I hired off of Craigslist for past moves were all much better, faster experiences with no tears.

We hired Hollander to ship our one bedroom apartment from Wisconsin to Germany. PROs: - very good customer service (Ben W. and Aaron P. provided quick responses, detailed and professional answers to all our questions); - all our stuff was carefully packed; no damages ocurred apart from a couple of broken plates and a small scratch on kitchen table; CONs: - very long delivery dates (10 weeks instead of announced 6-8). It took the company 6 weeks to load our stuff on a ship. - very costly insurance. Unless you are ready to prepare a detailed list of each spoon, book, etc. in your household together with its value, you have to insure your goods by their weight. The fee is 2.5% of goods value, where the latter is $15/lb. This is close to a rip off. My employer paid for the move, so the cost of the move together with insurance (around $7,000) was less of a concern for me. I can recommend this company but don’t expect your goods to arrive soon. I wonder if there is another company out there with the same customer service but faster delivery times and more flexible insurance policies.

Moving 3 times in 2 ½ years is not something Lynn would recommend to anyone. For us, it would have been impossible without the assistance of Chris and his crews at Hollander Moving and Storage. We’ve done home-to-home, home-to-condo and condo-to-condo moves. In each situation, we found Hollander’s staff to be professional, organized and efficient. They packed my family portraits safely and carefully. They suggested ways that I could save money. And they moved the furniture, cartons and boxes as if they were moving their own valuables. In addition, I have used Hollander’s storage facilities. These I found to be safe, secure and reasonably priced. And they’ve gone out of their way to allow me access to my stored belongings. I have found Hollander’s people and services to be Top=Notch. Call and ask for Chris. He will make the entire process as pleasant as moving can be.

Excellent service.They came on time to move all our boxes and furniture.We moved from Mount prospect Illinois to Charlotte NC. We packed all our things for the first time and not a single thing was broken when they delivered. They are very flexible for changes. We had to change our dates 3 times and they accommodated well. The delivery was also on time. They even accomadated our request for delayed delivery when we were still finalizing apartment in new place. All the small furniture and mattresses arrived wrapped in clean covers. I highly recommend this movers.Their price is reasonable as compared to famous movers and service is awesome.

The sales rep. advised us to purchase ins. and that they would provide boxes and paper we just pick it up at office. It was very unorganized with the box pick up and raining, had to ask them to wrap boxes in plastic. Movers at the house were fine, but we were not told until the truck was pulling out of the driveway that our house would be unloaded in Elk Grove to be put on another truck which would be going to Phoenix. The shipment was due 6/20/14 It came (3/4 of belongings) on 6/21/14 and since it was going into storage, something the salesman knew, we were not compensated the $100 for the delay. We did not see the removal or repacking of our home and when the truck arrived, it look like a different shipment. The remainder of our goods came a few days later, no that's right, no $100...Now we move to our home to find tools stolen and many items that were packed with bubble wrap and paper broken. Now, try to have them email the claim form!!!! and it continues....I highly suggest using our bad experience to steer you in the direction of another company.

I could not be more happy with the service I received from Hollander Storage and Moving. They exceeded all expectations. As a matter of fact, the previous reviews were so bad that my wife was extremely leery of using them at all. We moved our household from Chicago the Canary Islands (Spain). Ben West was our agent in Chicago and Laura Tarno (Sterling) was our contact in Spain. They were the lowest quote. They packed 100% of the items. They made a list. They were clean and on time. For the voyage, we were kept in the loop every step of the way and Laura worked with us to ensure that we had the proper paperwork to clear Spanish customs. I will give a full recommendation to anyone that asks.
