This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Movie theater.
This theater is a castle! It’s brilliantly designed with intricate and artistic detail. The sound is good and the chairs are comfortable. Besides playing movies, they also do the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s a wonder, local place to see a movie. They are a big part of the Milwaukee Film Festival.
I've always loved the Oriental Theater, and it has only gotten better since Milwaukee Film took over. They've obviously put a lot of time and effort into some long overdue repairs that Landmark put off. MKE Film has certainly polished up the jewel box theater. Programming has gotten much more interesting!
The Oriental is one of the nation's most beautiful movie theaters. Recently taken over by Milwaukee Film, it has a new sound system and beautiful updated first-floor Lady's Restroom. We like their popcorn, too! And if a person is a member, they get a dollar off each vending item.
Beautiful old style theater with modern amenities.
I love the beauty of this historic theater, how will it has been maintained, and what it stands for. Every part of going there is beautiful.
If you live in Milwaukee, you have to come here at least once! It's an old theater will a fabulous charm. We peaked into the big theater but saw a show in a smaller one. Same price but makes a cuter date.
It was nice just cold inside
Unique movie experience great variety of movies hip area
Great place to gather with friends. Kid friendly with bowling lanes and arcade (although I wish the pool tables were available to the kids too). Prices are great.
Love this historic venue! Great popcorn! Wine and beer available.
Beautiful theater with decent optioned bar. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the thermostat because it was sweltering heat when I went, but it's worth a visit. Also in a great location for after movie drinks or eating.
One of the most beautiful theatres in the city. They also choose great movies, better quality than your average movie theatre showings.
Love it. Historical and feels great
Very nice old time theatre. Food and beverage available for purchase. Volunteers were working the night I came to movies. They were able to assist an elderly man that accompanied me while I parked car. Thanks!
A must visit if you’re ever in Milwaukee!
I love the architecture, love even more the preserved it. The staff member selling tickets and snacks was really nice. An older gentlemen came into room before film started, I think doing promotions, honestly I couldn't hear him. They have upgraded audio equipment but honestly the room wasn't designed for modern surround sound movie sound tracks. It was acceptable if a little boomy. I will definitely go back when I'm next in town.
Charming and wonderful venue for a movie. Love walking to the Oriental. New owners are bringing back the charm while making updates to make the theatre more comfortable. Highly Recommend when visiting Milwaukee
The Oriental Theatre is a beautiful old preserved theater in the heart of the Eastside of Milwaukee. It has a feel of old world elegance and beauty. It is very ornate. The seats are comfortable and roomy. This is truly a gem of Milwaukee.
Love this place always. Never change.
Fantastoc theater with an even better staff! Such history in this building.
Beautiful historic venue.
Beautiful space to watch a film. Indy films, and the occasional block buster. Film festivals. The Rockey horror picture show! Really a great place. Get there with enough time to enjoy the atmosphere and the architecture. Grab a beer and some popcorn. Check out a foreign film you won't catch at a multiplex. Located in a great area for a night out.
The oriental is a beautiful old theater that shows a great variety of movies, usually artsy and somewhat fartsy. The theater is comfortable, although the floor doesn't slope a lot so shorter people may get the occasional head in their way. They serve beer, soda, popcorn, and candy, and it's all good.
The Oriental is an iconic movie theatre that is always a special place to visit. The food, wine and beer selections are an added bonus and I like they sell a local brewer's beers. The Milwaukee Film Festival is a great draw for this theatre and I look forward to the festival each year.
Ok, so landmark. Good movies.. Not the greatest theater. I prefer downer or avalon for the same kind of feel. I like independent movies and this theater is big,and kitschy. Nice drink selection and caramel popcorn. I'd love to see them strip the floors and get new seats.
Generally a great place. My family has been coming to the Oriental for forever, and even after the MKEFLM purchase. It still seems quite good. The staff could use a shot of energy, and some training on how to make tea. Today, when we saw BlacKKKlansman (good movie, go watch it), the tea that was purchased, the staff member threw the tea bag into the tea, not even leaving a bit of string to remove it with. The staff are lacking the energy of the Landmark Theaters personell, which is sad.
Stunning theatre and home of the longest running showing of RHPS
Best theater I've ever been to and the renovations are gorgeous. There is a true love of film here that is hard to find anywhere else.
The details on this architectural beauty are surreal!!
The Oriental Theater is a legend unto itself. Always beautiful and unique, despite its multiple bastardizations, one must give props to the way the alterations are hidden. The three theaters are TINY! The seats are set in such a way that you're always trying to look around the person in front of you's head. It would be considerably better if the seats were staggered just slightly. The theater has a snack/bar area but it's just kind of dropped into the lobby. There is no set crowd control so it's difficult to get served or to just maneuver your way into your designated doorway. Another difficulty is the staff. Many of them are volunteers and are only compensated by getting to view free films. Not a bad deal but who knows what kind of training they are provided before starting. Questions are answered incorrectly. You get stopped trying to re-enter the lobby area after using the rest room. A two person ticket, if printed online, is only one piece of paper and you'll get hassled if you happen to be the individual who doesn't have it. The Oriental is what it is... and since it's the only venue in town to see indie/art films you just accept it and move on.
I mean, who doesn't love the Oriental? Great movies, good popcorn, and amazing atmosphere.
1st time visiting watched United Skates awesome experience !
Saw Apollo 11, picture quality an sound was excellent. The theater stands the test of time. The film is also top notch.
Really cool historic theater
This place is a true gem. The architecture and ornate detailing whisks me away to Europe every time I step inside. They play a mix of current top box office movies along with more indie/independent film festival type movies. I appreciate that it's not another one of those mainstream movie theatres. Before the movies starts, someone comes out to give a little background on the movie. They even serve alcoholic beverages. I really miss being within walking distance to this place!
Beautiful old theater with modern amenities. Near home with a great showcase of independent films you can't see anywhere else!
Beautiful theater. Tasty popcorn. Film Festival
This theater is amazing and always has been a jewel for the city. But with the new management, it's even better. The space has marvelous kitchy design. The movie selection is unique (and very up my alley). The concessions are solid, with a good selection of adult beverages- though no kitchen to offer fancier food from. And the new projector is absurdly good. The color gammut seems very wide with incredibly consistent reproduction across the screen.
Join and enjoy. Milwaukee Film Fest is a winner.
Great GREAT independent theater. What a cool throw back to the old school movie houses. The craftsmanship in the woodwork was worth the price of admission alone!
Beautiful theater with lots and seats and plenty to look at besides the movie. Our first time was to see Grand Budapest Hotel and we have always been on the the look-out to come back ever since. Friendly staff, nice facilities, really looking forward to coming in for a film festival event or something similar.
Thank you for the remodeled women’s restrooms on the main level! LOVE the Brewer’s Yeast on the Popcorn. Please bring back the 100% Real Butter for the Popcorn!!
Amazing. Historic. Well kept.
This is THE movie theater in the Milwaukee area. Of course I might be prejudice because I belong to Milwaukee Film and they own the Theater. They recently purchased this spectacular old theater and are in the process of renovating it. This doesn't interfere with the movies, lobby or restrooms. They show a wide variety of films both old and new. This is the last day of the Milwaukee Film Festival 2019 and what a festival it was! Almost 350 films to choose from in 15 days.
One of the two best theaters in the State. The atmosphere is original, vintage and luxurious. You can just feel the history. The Staff is always pleasant and the food is good. I prefer the earlier shows, as the neighborhood can be a little sketchy after 11pm.
My only complaint is the new SOUND system. The SOUND is too LOUD. Friends, family and out-of-town visitors who went to films recently have noticed differences since Milwaukee Film took over. All the differences are positive, except that the management is so in love with the SOUND system that movies are annoyingly loud. Some of my family have (our bad genes) uncorrectable vision problems that make it necessary to sit closer to the screen, where the sound is nearly unbearable. It's a gem, that we may have to just have to visit for the groovy architecture, without seeing movies there. Do that anyway, it's a Milwaukee landmark.
Oh we love this place. So glad it's open again. Long live the oriental
Such a beautiful theater and they let you drink in your seat! Several types of IPA are offered which is the real ticket to my heart. The Milwaukee film festival is a ton of fun and they play Talking Head's Stop Making Sense every year and it is an incredible experience. I highly recommend this place!
Very good place to work nice house
One of Milwaukee's most beautiful, iconic theaters!
The Oriental isn't a place you are going to go for modern perks, reclining seats, or cutting edge sound. But it is a wondeful, historic theater that shows great classic and indie movies. The seats may not be modern, but I'm about 6 and a half feet tall and I had plenty of leg room. Special thanks to Ryan who graciously let my fiancee have the movie poster for the movie we were there to see, which she has been a huge fan of since she was 9.
Best theater in Milwaukee to watch a movie
Such a great theatre! The remodeled bathrooms are awesome.
An awesome throwback theater experience. Saw ‘The Shape of Water’ set in the 1960s. Very fitting venue. Took me back to those early years when a child’s admission was $0.25 at my home town Aladdin Theater, long gone.
Great looking building, you can feel the history, sound and projection were very good.
This theater is a must visit landmark for Milwaukee film lovers. I have seen several films here, having been in each of the theater sections. The middle theater is my favorite, being the most extravagant and beautiful of the three. The middle theater is reserved for new or popular films, so be prepared to be in the other theaters for older or less popular films. The seats are typical of a classic theater. They are cushioned and have cup holders on the back of the chairs in front of you, but they are not recliners as presented in more modern theaters. Any seat will give you a good view of the screen though. The concessions are typical of a theater. They do serve alcohol, but I don't suggest getting any mixed drinks there. I had a whiskey sour once before and it was so sour my face actually puckered. Go to one of the many bars surrounding the area after a movie and have a discussion with your partner about the film experience instead. The thing I love most about The Oriental is the audience. Audience members are always respectful, quiet and mature. Everyone is there to enjoy film. The Oriental is a must visit in Milwaukee. Go see the latest indie film there, you won't regret it.
Best place for long ago and now!
Had an amazing time at this beautiful theatre with an amazing friend. We saw the film The Wife. Highly recommend it.
Beautiful theater , great experience I wish we had a theater like this in Las Vegas.
Iconic! Rocky Horror a bucket list must see! Takes you back in time with the ambience and architecture while showing modern day off the path movies! Must experience when doing Milwaukee as a tourist or a lifelong resident! If you ain't been to the Oriental you ain't been to a Great Place on a Great Lake!
Historically needed and beautiful
This is a nice historic theater. It's fun to look at all the decoration in the lobby and imagine they people who patronized that theater 100 years ago. However, the seats are still old school -they're a little tight if you have a big behind. A lot of "artsy" films.
So beautiful, and the staff is great. Can’t say enough wonderful things.
Newly renovated ladies room on the lower level is SPECTACULAR! Automated soap dispensers and water faucets plus SEVEN new stalls! No more waiting, hurray!!!
One of my favorite places in Milwaukee. The decor is amazing & if you see a movie in the main theatre you get an organ performance as well. They still greet you with a welcome from staff announcing upcoming movies and events. Bar drinks available!
My all time favorite theater
Amazing place and I am grateful that I this treasure has been preserved!
The bowling here is a little expensive if you are trying to bowl and drink but the drink prices make up for it. The bar never feels very crowded due to the 3 different bars serving drinks. The games there are typical for a bar of its nature and are in good shape. My one complain is that the Foosball table won't let you get a full games worth for one payment. You have to pay twice to finish your game which is kind of lame in my opinion.
It's a Milwaukee landmark. The interior is gorgeous. From the marquee outside, to the ticketbooth, to the concession stand, to the donor posters, and then the beautiful main theater. Its huge and grand and I highly recommend coming back during doors open or a tour to see the theater lit up so you can appreciate all its grandeur. I was all the way back in the balcony and still had a great view and could hear fine. This is a fun visit you should definitely put on your list of things to do on a day with bad weather.
This is the coolest theater ever. Even if your not seeing a movie I would recommend going in just to see the decor.
Always a great experience
MKE is lucky to have such a well preserved theater in this style. MFF is amazing
I saw Give Me Liberty and walked out prior to it ending.. didn't care for the movie.. the theater is ok.. not the most comfortable seats but it suffices
Probably the coolest movie going experience in the city. Beverages and popcorn are fairly reasonable and the selection of movies is always interesting. That being said, know they aren't going to have every summer block buster, but your movie going experience is going to benefit immensely from going at this historic theater. The best option if you're a fan of golden age cinema, not the best option maybe for other folks.
Always an excellent time had by all for the audience participation Rocky Horror Picture Show I believe this location now has the honor of longest continuous running stage show.
Travel back in time! Awesomeness!!!
if you have wide hips you may be uncomfortable in the seats, as this is an old fashioned movie theater.
Super Duper Chill Eastside location with ambience & scenery that sets the mood. Oriental Theater has a smooth College crowd vibe that I personally enjoy.
Favorite theater in MKE
Fantastic, beyond anything you could imagine . Well worth going.
Such a charming and historic theater. Anyone with an ounce of Milwaukee pride should consider supporting this place. They support local filmmakers and artists. They also show interesting films. I highly recommend this place, especially for date night.
Historic venue, lots of films that miss the mainstream
Stunning theatre, and always excellent movie selection!
I’ve seen so many movies here. The first time I came here was in 2016 to see Knight of Cups with a friend and i fell in love with this theater right away. From all of my great experiences here seeing Nocturnal Animals, Moonlight, Song to Song, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name, Isle of Dogs, Hereditary, The Favourite, If Beale Street Could Talk, Blackklansman, and High Life, I have never had a bad experience here and the the atmosphere always makes it a wonderful movie experience.
Awesome place.. old theatre converted to a cinema.... With projector from the back.. and Buddha's statues on the back and an awesome/colourful lobby
This place is awesome and beautiful! A great place to see a movie!
This theater has been around since 1927 and has a beautiful interior. The prices are pretty reasonable for tickets and concessions.
Historic, local, art house cinema. Celebrating its 91st birthday! Incredible place.
Great and classy environment. Need more food.
Love seeing moving here!
It was an interesting experience with the vintage style and most of the theater experience was comforting but the floor wasn't slanted enough and you could easily get obstructed by someone taller in front of you. That might not be the case for you so it's a good place
The ambience, screen quality, and history make the Oriental Theatre a must see in Milwaukee.
Beautiful theater, but the seats are tiny!
Who doesn't love the Oriental? The place is a movie palace that is thankfully frozen in time. They don't make 'em like this anymore! Looking forward to the improvements that are coming to ensure this place keeps it's status as the most beautiful place to see a movie in town!
Great old theatre. Glad they are showing independent films.
I loved being able to see the Premier of Give Me Liberty here. The movie was well done! The theater is amazing!
The majesty of the space is in tact, which is awesome. But even though I am a member of Milwaukee Film, they couldnt find me in their system and didn't seem to have an explanation. Also, since it changed hands, they got rid of some of the alternative refreshments- like vegan cookies- and only offer the corporate, standard candy selection...it was a somewhat disappointing experience.
Now renovated and operated by the MKE Film Fest kids, the Oriental’s never been better.
Amazing place
Great experience. Sound and visual were clear and vibrant. The work done to restore the theater and lobby areas is evident. Glad we made the trip out.
My family and I love this theater. This theatre had awesome seating!!! The chairs were comfy and the pricing was reasonable. Coupled with the sound system we can’t say there is a bad seat in the house. This theater is also perfect for kids. It's clean and the tickets are a good price. All the employees that have serviced me seem extremely sweet.
Historic beautiful place that shows films you wouldn't normally get a chance to see elsewhere. The prices are all very reasonable and the staff is super
Beautiful historic theater with newly updated amenities. Wonderful east side charm.
Parking is a little tricky, but the theatre brings a diverse palate of cinema to Milwaukee.
Beautiful Theatre like no other theatre and has a wonderful selection if movies always playing.
Not another chain. Movies that are more than the usual formula.
Fabulous piece of history. Great place to see a film.
Comfortable seating, beautiful interior, good choice of movies, friendly employees. The things I don’t like are unavailability of choosing a seat while buying tickets and extra commission when buying tickets online.
Excellent atmosphere! I love this theater!
Gorgeous theatre, and the staff is always kind!
I went here to see a documentary and I got to tell you, this theater is just beautiful. It is a historic theater, one that my great grandmother would go to as a child. Great popcorn and soda there also.
Great to have a theater like this in MKE.
The Oriental is an amazing theater. It's worth visiting just to see the decor! Staff is wonderful.
Historic! Beautiful! Offers films you won't find many other places, it's a palace of epic proportions!! It's in the heart of MKE!!!
I love the landmark theatres. They always have great staff, old, beautiful theatres with history. Lots of art films, independent, etc.
What could be better? This lobby is to die for. The films are original, often independent. Beats Marcus every time.
Beautiful theater! Love going here
Beautiful theatre. This is a must see if in Milwaukee.
If you had ten star that's what I would give
The overall experience was refreshingly old fashioned. The decor of the Oriental brings you back to old timey opera houses with tall entryways and traditional red carpet. I got good vibes from this place and judging by the appearance of the Oriental, I would love to experience a good horror movie around Halloween time. The staff was friendly, popcorn genuinely tasted like it had real butter on it, and good local tap beer. Looking forward to coming back!
Clean and well run. Has a historic feeling of yesteryear when it was a movie palace. Enjoyed the movie (Biggest little farm) and the theater experience.
Very unique movie experience. Gorgeous original interior and pleasantly large snack selection. The movie selection is very much for cinema buffs and oddballs but if they are playing something you want to see I highly recommend. Be warned, lots of movies only play for one day there, like the one I saw on it's debt night.
Love this theater. Crazy cool orientalist decorations with great professional staff. A classy joint. Downer theater's popcorn is a bit better though.
Nice place and they have really good staff
I have been going to the Oriental Theater for years and absolutely adore this theater. From the architecture, to the movies they show, to the amazing popcorn, the Oriental never fails to live up to expectations. It is very hard to find another theater like this one around because it is just so beautiful, which makes the whole viewing experience that much better. As for the popcorn what makes it delicious is the brewer's yeast that you can put on top, it is a fabulous addition and makes the popcorn a step above other theater's. Another great thing about the Oriental Theater is that it shows both blockbuster movies as well as independent films. This theater is truly a Milwaukee treasure.
Always a good time. Highly recommend this place. RHPS is an awesome time here as well. Absolutely beautiful interior. I prefer a theatre experience like this one. If you have never been here, you simply must go!
Everything was fine.
Beautiful, historic venue in Milwaukee with 3 screens.
GORGEOUS, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. We saw The Pope Movie here and it was a very hard tie between loving the movie and loving the beauty of the theater.
Best place to see a movie!
It has a character, very nice atmosphere and good selection of thought-provoking movies.
Wonderful theater. Sat in back row with broken ankle and had a perfect view
Really cool theatre
An amazing place to see a movie. Phenomenal architecture - unlike anything you will see anywhere else. They also do a great job playing movies outside of the mainstream and is the hub of the Milwaukee Film Festival. A local treasure!
If you want to avoid the giant mega-plex movie theaters with 20 screens and just enjoy a movie in an old fashioned but nice theater this is the place for you. They have many snack and drink options including beer. Staff does a great job of helping customers and keeping the place clean and maintained.
This theater will always be dear to me!
Gogeous theater with spectacular decor and excellent snack and drink options.
One of Milwaukee's most beautiful theaters. Sometimes you can hear sounds from the neighboring theater but it's not often and never too distracting.
Fair price. Older seats but updates are coming. Actually reasonable soda and popcorn (also good popcorn!). Worth checking it out!!
My first time here! Beautiful theater. Enjoyed a Milwaukee Film Festival flick.
The most beautiful theatre. Definitely check it out!
The Oriental's revival is a joy to be part of and to enjoy. Being a MKE Film Club Member Is the key.
My favorite theater. Gorgeous and shows independent films along with more mainstream movies. You can get beer and wine here, and they've opened a huge new bathroom on the ground floor.
It's still pretty snazzy!
Very cool 100 year old theater. Different experience than a new multiplex.
Most charming theatre I have been to in the States. Never, ever disappointed! Excellent service and high quality food and drinks. A walk back in time, when decor was original and one of a kind. I have been attending cinema here for almost 60 years, and am always a happy customer!!!
Saw the shape of water here what a beautiful theater small seats but It had such a charm the sound system is surprisingly good and quality of screening. I definitely saw my fair share of Stuffy people but all in all beautiful theater good to go on a date to.
It's a small theatre. Even if you buy your tickets ahead they still want you to wait outsude (the film was not popular maybe 20 people and they nade us wait outside to make it look like it was so popular that they had a lune.
Classic movie palace showing the best in cutting edge film
Love watching films from independent film makers and world renoun as well. Never know what gems you will find. Down side. The side theaters off the main on are small and the seats even smaller. They upgraded the main theater seating bot the small ones. If you are big hipped or large see a film in the middle theater only to be comfortable.
Fun venue
A bit pricey but welcoming environment overall
Beautiful old theater with fully restored interior. Good selection in the concessions stand and a friendly staff. Great place for your next movie night!
Love the character of the theater as well as the film's they show. Looking forward to seeing it enter a new era under the leadership of MKE Film
Great Establishment. Friendly. Awesome films.
Incredible architecture, a truly magnificent building from another era
Beautiful historic place in the city
Beautifully designed & maintained, friendly staff, and good sound for the movie. They had a relatively good screen too. Going to this theater felt like an experience from the time I was walking up to the entrance to leaving and having time to look at the building designs in detail. The only bummer was a family sat down in the middle, next row up, and talked every 5-10 minutes so I kept getting distracted. Another group talked every 20 minutes. I was disappointed that people don't "respect others by... refraing from talking" and it doesn't actually get "strictly enforced."
