The only venue worth seeing movies in! They have a surprisingly gorgeous and historic interior, and quite an acceptable beer selection. The prices are reasonable and afterwards don’t forget to check out the museum of bad art! It’s a true gem like no other!
Seating is not great for tall people
Great theater! With cheap tickets and a cool selection I'm glad I visited this gem
Watched 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm print on account of it's 50th anniversary. They went through a lot of trouble to retain the experience, including arrangement of the sound systems. Very well done.
I love this theater! It's comfortable and clean and very community oriented.
Saw a movie about opiod crisis . Theatre did not charge. It was about some of the young men from Somerville who lost their lives. Kudos to the theatre !
Great place for live events.
Love the atmosphere and the newly renovated chairs are very comfortable in this neat, old theater.
Absolutely abismal service. I have never be treated so rudely by an employee in my entire life. Amazing location and a nice looking theatre but I would recommend at all costs you stay away. I was treated with disrespect and condescension, wasted my money, and refused service- all after calling ahead of time and getting approval for my request to come late to a movie. Most businesses in Cambridge are professional and respectful. Sadly I cannot say that for this theatre. Save yourself the embarrassment and hassle and go somewhere else.
An historic theatre.
Great experience. Easy access. Need couple of more rest rooms though!!!
This is one of my favorite older theaters. It really has a nice feel to it. They have a few events where they show older films on their originally firm (which I love) and some 70mm gems!
Nice town theatre with new and old movies. Candy was $3.50, popcorn $4-$7. They also had rootbeer floats for $4!!
A really wonderful small theater nestled in Somerville. It feels like a hometown theater, tickets are moderately priced, and everything is clean and comfortable. The Museum of Bad Art downstairs is a Somerville staple.
Classy independent 6 screen theater. The ornate main theater is an experience not to be missed. Movie sound quality is unmatched.
Vintage interior, attentive employees and great film selection makes this place a must to visit for any movie buff.
Excellent! Been going there for years. Always running good films and good prices.
Best Cinema in Boston! Have a glass of red wine in the bar and enjoy a good movie!
Oldest theater around with the cheapest ticket prices. Craft beer on tap and usually a great film selection including plenty of blockbusters alongside Indy films alongside lesser-known foreign films. Make sure to check out the MOBA- Museum of Bad Art downstairs. It's included in your movie ticket and has the largest collection I've ever seen of the most ugly, horrible downright trash artwork with the most witty captions.
Awesome local independent movie theater with a great mix of first run and independent/older films. They also do a 70mm festival every year which is super fun and worthwhile. Plus they sell great local beer!
A very historic theater offering popcorn with real butter and a bar
I absolutely love this theater. When movies are showing in the big theater, we grab Richardson's ice cream, local beers on tap, and balcony seating and enjoy. The smaller theaters are also nice. The only complaint is that the speakers in the big theater are sometimes a bit muddy, but it's not enough to stop me from going.
Good size theatre . Good prices
Classic, movies and live music
classic theater with very very good prices. always a good movie experience.
nice cozy old school theater.. but the popcorn was terrible! Half of it was soggy and all of it had too much butter.
Very nice seats old style theater with modern technology
You can rent out the MicroTheatre, which seats 30 people, for a good price and host your own movie screenings here! Bring your own snacks, buy a couple drinks at the bar, and you have yourself an amazing venue!
So awesome! How movie theaters should be.. no commercials, no fancy 3D, great movies (sometimes on 70mm!!), nice drinks, wonderful people.. if you like adds and way too many movie trailers before your movie though, don't go here.
It's nice here. If you're a bigger person or just dont like being squeezed in, make sure you have an aisle seat. It's really no worse than any other theater but it's just something to consider when buying tickets.
Great classic theater that shows old and new movies. Can’t beat the price either!
Really caters to yuppies now.
Wicked comfy. The interior decorator was oddly fond of owls but the local vibe here is great. The theatres are a few rows short of an AMC but the sound systems and screens are sized fairly the same I'd say. The prices are just as bad as anywhere else, but the beer selection was far better in my opinion. Saw Annihilation there twice and I plan to select them far more often than a local chain theatre.
Beautiful historic theater with beautiful interior architecture and lovely all gender bathrooms. Right in downtown Davis Square immediately next to the Red line in Somerville, this theater is easy to spot. Near to several cheap off street lots- we used Buena Vista lot this time. Offers both live shows and goog old fashioned movies with popcorn, candy and a soda. Nice selection of alcoholic beverages. Show was very much a sitting show due to hostile audience member yelling at dancers- this is why i give it 3 stars, the negative and rude attitude of the audience...disappointing!
Love this old theater and it's awesome main auditorium. The smaller theaters are nice as well but the big one is truly impressive. Go see a 70mm show there. It's worth the trip. Decent bar too if you want a few drinks. Go at night so you can check out the lit up old timey marquee.
Shockingly good beer selection for a movie theatre. Comfy seats and a great old school vibe. Also check out the "museum of bad art" downstairs
Awesome little theatre. Have gone here to see a few love shows as well as great limited run movies.
Go here instead of an AMC or something. Not just because there's stuff you can't get in other theatre, but honestly it's comfier. The vibe is better. The big AMC by MIT feels like a sterile hotel or something in comparison.
An adorable quaint movie theatrr
Tgey got tga movis. yess.
First time I had been to this theater. Went to see the Slutcracker with a large group of friends. Pretty neat venue. I wouldn't mind going back. I'm not a local to the area but from what I see Somerville was a happening place back in the day.
Rude employees and, apparently have wrong listings for movie times on their site.
Love this theater, big Hollywood flicks but also independent films and events.
The best ! Great staff, cold brews, and if you haven't visited that neighborhood lately, now's the time.
I enjoy visiting this theater not only because they show movies and events that I want to see but because of how well it is run. They have several people working and because the staff are well trained the lines move fast and you get good customer service. I like that they have real butter for the popcorn too. They always have something interesting going on and it’s worth visiting their website often to see new offerings.
It's small and quaint, a great local Davis Square experience as long as it's showing the movie you want to see.
Best classic place to go see a movie
Great place. Great support to the community
Always a great experience
Average theater don't avoid or seek out. If you're nearby though it will do.
Great vibe. Reasonably priced drinks (!) and concessions
Few movies playing, when there with my family.
Wonderful venu with a vintage charm! I have only seen one show here, but would be happy to return for another! Right in downtown near plenty of restaurants to enjoy before or after a show. They have a decent snack bar and I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get coffee!
Lovely seats.
Nice old style stage theater. Seats are a bit low, and I'm a short person.
Great venue for watching football
Recently went to Sona Jobarteh & band here. Love having global musicians! I did find it a bit strange that the ushers and ticket people were dismissive and eating in the lobby during the show - they were more concerned with their food than showing me the toilets.
It was a great time... Stephen is the King!!!
Old style theater, reasonably priced ticket for a week night ($10). Decent alcohol options but they only let you buy one drink per person unfortunately. The popcorn was decently tasty.
This classic independent theater has all the heart and peculiarity you might hope for while remaining modern and vibrant in its decor, technology and film choices. A jewel.
Cozy space great to watch a show!
Love this place but seats are small. Historic gorgeous old theater makes up for feeling a little close with your neighbor. Plan ahead and get an isle seat.
The best movie theatre, cozy, and artsy. Good prices, and the staff is friendly and they serve beer.
My favorite movie theater
Local and awesome. Drink a beer while you are there.
It is beautiful, large, crowded. I went to see a Christmas musical here and I enjoyed it a lot. Food was great. Bathroom was clean at the time. The inside is very appealing to the eye and seats are great
Comfortable seats. Low ticket prices. Excellent special screenings. Licensed bar.
Good movies next to the train station
First time here. We saw "The Big Sleep". It was really good and so fun to see it on the big screen with a packed house. It is an old theatre and shows it's age but the funky ecclectic atmosphere is part of its charm.
It's a decent theatre, but they definitely need to update their seats. Watching a 3 hour movie can get very uncomfortable. Other than that, the staff is nice and the museum of bad art, which is downstairs, is always interesting.
I saw If Beale Street Could Talk. Very good movie in a very nice theater!
Best place to go to the movies.
Snatam Band was amazing! The Theatre is great and Davis Square is bustling with lots of places to eat. The Foundry has great service, food & drink! Devils on Horseback were absolutely delicious!
I've only been here during IFFBoston, but always a good time.
Very interesting place, we watched a show there.
I wasn't inside just in front and it sucked bcuz I'm still not sure how CD is doing. And I am concerned and confused
Great atmosphere!
Nice cinema, lively crowds. The lobby can fee like traveling upstream in a stampede. One star subtracted for the way the staff is so on edge about college students trying to drink underage that they treat you like a potential perpetrator well into your mid 30's.
We saw a 50th anniversary showing of "2001: A Space Odyssey". The theater owner gave a short address before the movie and his passion for film was obvious and infectious. A lovingly maintained space and cultural resource that deserves community support.
pretty chill for limited run stuff
As a teenager, I came here every year to watch the Sci Fi marathon, and these days I'm there a couple times a month for their awesome and unusual offerings. A great theater with reasonable prices in a fantastic neighborhood. Definitely worth visiting whenever your have the opportunity. Make sure to come early to explore!
Love this place. Local gem. Good rotating draft beers. The Slaughterhouse series is a blast-- go to at least one! My friend hosted her 30th birthday there. You can rent out one of the 30-seaters on the lower level and screen any movie you want AND bring in any food. Inexpensive and really cool.
Such a cool theatre. Went there on a Sunday morning for the Independent Film Festival. Got to watch a great documentary about Black Memorabilia, with a Q&A with the director afterwards. (Yeah the actual director, he was there). They routinely do cool stuff like that, and the theatre has a great vibe to it. Looking forward to seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm here.
Nice Thearter. Very old. Best popcorn i ever had with real butter. Lol
It's really old-timey and cute. The theaters are pretty small, but that means the only bad seats really are right up front. Their prices arent bad. Only thing is parking is hard.
Small, cute movie theater right in Davis Square! The staff is incredible! My only quip is that sometimes when I buy popcorn, the butter is really watery so it makes the popcorn soggy. But I would definitely recommend coming here!
Love this local theater with the best fresh popcorn ever. Great prices and popular movies, as well as independent films shown. They also feature live shows in their main theater.
Always one of my favorite theaters, it just got renovated. The auditorium downstairs got a significant upgrade in comfort and style. Great film selection, interesting special programs and great live shows. Reasonably priced concessions, and booze. Location can't be beat as it has great public transportation but also nearby parking. Plenty of great places to eat and drink open late and very very close.
I saw 2001 A Space Odyssey here in 70 mm film. It was amazing and I'm excited to see other cool showings they have here!
Nice comfortable theater. They don't use recliners but an $8 matinee on a Sunday makes for a good time.
A great old style theater... comfortable seats and beverages.
Real authentic historical theatre.
Just watched HELLBOY there, for an old movie theater it’s well preserved. The seats were comfortable, sounds perfect. There were no crown but I liked how quiet it was. Also there were a show in one room,I have never seen that in a movie theater. The place is small but everything was where they should be.
Show current and some old flicks. Decent prices for tickets and snacks. Also has a small bar with beer, wine and a small variety of cocktails.
Went to see a concert. It is a nice clean and cozy venue.
Go to see any good movie here
Beautiful venue! I was there for a live event.
The speakers block half the stage (and subsequently the musicians) from the outside seats in the first few rows. After the show I mentioned that to ''the light guy" in the back that we couldn't see the main musician from where we were. He said yeah that sucks and that's life. I just wanted him to mention it to a manager or something to save future patrons, but was just outright dismissed by the dude.
Went for the Slutcracker live show. Nice space. Quick ticketing and seating. Decent concession prices.
A wonderful old theater, with a main auditorium that’s just enormous, able to project 35mm or 70mm and seat hundreds (other options vary in size, but none match the main stage). The popcorn’s good and fairly priced (for movie theater popcorn). There’s also ice cream, cups and cones, and best of all, beer and wine, with half a dozen or more taps pouring out mostly local delicious suds in 16 or 20 oz cups. Their repertoire programming is fun, original, and valuable to the community.
A nice, small, old theater.
Great theater. And they always bring in great performers. It can be difficult sometimes with the 1 beer per purchase policy, but it won't stop me from seeing another performer there.
And a good time was had by all. Love the HighKings
Great place to see movies without the crowds
Excellent old-school theater, they work hard to make it a great place for movie lovers. Highly skilled projectionists.
First time in the theater. Not a bad seat in the place. Acoustic were great.
great prices and pretty theater
I visited to see the special screening of 2001 A Space Odyssey. Great space, attentive staff, gorgeous sound. I'll visit again and, if I'm lucky, often.
Your neighborhood theater with historic charm. See a cheap movie ($10) or even cheaper matinee ($6) and grab a beer at the bar. Or come check out a live show or movie festival. This is a wonderful neighborhood establishment in a world of megachains and streaming video.
My favorite theatre. Popcorn and snacks and better than standard, and the theaters themselves are quite nice. They occasionally show 35mm, and the sound quality is really good. 10 dollars for a ticket at night and 7 dollars for a matinee.
I love this theater, and have been going there for almost 50 years I have lived in the area my whole life and think if you love movies you need to see a move at this treasure from Hollywood's golden age. Great screenings of the greatest films and live performances from Caruso to Springsteen.
Excellent movie complex in Davis Square. Mostly first run Hollywood movies but does offer occasional indie films. The theatre also hosts live concerts. It offers wine and beer and a full candy and popcorn counter. The ice cream is superb. The main theater and one of the smaller theaters have been artfully restored and refurnished with very comfortable seating.
Somerville Theatre is awesome!! Super old school so if you want stadium seating and all the perks of a modern movieplex this is not the place for you. But if you are someone who appreciates the character and atmosphere of a place this is your spot!! They also have good beer on tap and they make their own popcorn. Also, if you are feeling quirky they have the Museum of Bad Art in the basement and you can check that out for free. Not to mention all of the great restaurants around!! Check it out.
Good quality independant theater.
One of my favorite local theatres to see a movie.I dont think I've paid more than $10 for a first-run film, thereand they also screen classic films like the 75mm like 2001; A Space Odyssey Make sure you arrive early for those, they aell out. They also serve local craft brews and wine. Not much of a drinker of either of those, these days but they do have icecream which I do enjoy. They have musical and other performances,as well but Ive only seen movies there. There's also the Museum of Bad Art in the basement of the theatre to visit before or after a movie.See hours
Great small space to see live music.
I like their Church services
Such a nice place for a quiet Sunday movie night
This theatre only shows a few films at a time, but they are always a FANTASTIC selection. I always prefer the Somerville Theatre to an AMC or Landmark. The low ticket prices don't equal low quality at all. The main auditorium is gorgeous, and the perfect place to watch 75mm presentations. A neighborhood gem.
Very american, nice old theater.
Great venue!!!
Great movie theater, the kind I grew up with. I like these small ones a lot better than the huge chains because they feel a lot more friendly and like they care about the movies. Best prices around for tickets and food, plus they have iced cream and a good beer selection
Hip place and surround sound is good.
First run, foreign, and art films as well as live performance and Film Festivals. This 1912 former vaudeville theater is a treasure. Don't miss the Museum Of Bad Art in the basement!
Cozy movie palace with a lobby bar and good,, well stocked concessions. Great sound...we saw Bohemian Rhapsody. They also have live music and cabaret shows. This is an lovely, old and cared for theater-not a big multiplex.
A bit disappointed. Wanted to see "Roma" in a premium, big-screen, great sound environment, and Somerville has an exclusive. Unfortunately, this was in a small theater downstairs -- #2 -- with a small screen and lots of sound and rumbling bleeding in from "Aquaman" next door. Could've watched at home for free with Netflix, but this movie was supposed to be better seen and heard and experienced in a theater. Wish It had been booked in a Dolby Cinema.
Classic theater that's been around forever and does not cost a fortune to see a movie. This is the perfect spot to see lower budget, intimate movies (horror, drama, indie) in my opinion. Most of the theaters are dark, claustrophobic spaces that really suck you into the film experience. The main auditorium is honestly not the best place to see a blockbuster movie. The sound quality in this open atrium is not great.
Small...intimate...great show selection
Sci-fi festival was fun, Afraid of Nothing was a the best film of the week!
Smells like mildew in the theaters but cool entrance and best of all cheapest prices for tickets and candy
Very old school. But the people were nice. The ticket prices aren't bad and the amenities were pretty clean. It's just hard navigating through when it's your first time.
I’m a huge fan of 3D movies, but went there for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The showing was on a 2-floor theatre. With no ads. The chairs had almost no room. That’s the only reason I didn’t give them 5 star.
Great intimate theater to see the slutcracker at! Love the beer selection
Great place to see anything. Totally relaxed and chill, non-chain vibe, so that had me pleased already. But the seating and acoustics as well as overall experience can't be beat for the price. A true gem. I will soon be looking for a reason to return here.
Saw Toh Kay here with my buddy. Guys 6' 9", he did not fit in the seats and ended up sitting on the floor(amazing show), im 6 foot, 230 lbs and i was pretty snug. The 3 stars is for the small seats not made for modern height humans, I mean its a classic theater so what are ya gonna do lol.
Just saw The Slutcracker and loved it!
Best movie theater in the Boston area.
Great little indie theater.
Don't forget the museum of bad art
Awesome old theater with great sounds and they do film projections and the people running things really care about the moviegoing experience
I'm glad places like this still exist. I'm loving small theaters more and more and the Somerville Theater is why.
Nice retro theater, perfect for hosting the Sci-Fi Film Festival, especially the 'Thon!
This is my favorite theater in the Boston/ Cambridge area. The actual theater is self is beautiful restored, they have a great selection of beer and cider on tap. The staff there is always great, it's accessible to a lot of people. Outside of just during Blockbusters, it has special movies nights. Cult movie nights. There is a local burlesque troupe that has love burlesque and then features a movie on 35mm. You can also see one of Boston best Burgess productions the Slutcracker there every December. I love this theater!
Went to see Toh Kay with a String Quartet here. Nice little comfy theatre. The concession stand with coffee and popcorn is worth checking out. It was easy to see the stage from the back. Seats were comfortable. The sound quality was good.
Best theater in Greater Boston. Local, inexpensive and great quality service
Nice place, easy access from the T.
By far the best place around to see a movie. And way cheaper than the big chains. Plus they show all kinds of cool alternative/indie/classic films, and put on live events.
Love those glowing owl eyes.
Went for Boston SciFi Fest. Somerville theater employees are rude at the ticket counter in front of my eight year old. They tried to force people outside in 20 degrees to wait for a 3pm show at 2:55... and said oh it’s not that bad!!! While it’s not that bad, it’s also not hard to put up ropes for crowd management. Such a weird and unorganized experience. Go to a real theater and arrive early and be treated like a valued customer.
Never see anything in theater three. The aisles are cramped, and if someone verbally acosts you and make you feel unsafe in the theater, the manager shrugs and says "Sorry no refunds". We were given three passes to a future movie.
It's cool, it's aesthetic, and its great for movies, but the main auditoriums seats can be a little harsh. If you've got back issues stay away from the mezzanine seating.
Love this place, old school charm, interesting movies, good popcorn
Love this theater. Parking is limited in the area
Cool space. Definitely feels like an old theater.
Beautiful old style theater. Great popcorn, with a beer if you like. Saw several live concerts there, too. Great location near lots of bars and eateries, as well as the Red Line.
Excellent place to listen to music!
Nice size theatre. Large screens. Good selection of movies. Preserved old time look/feel in the main theatre. Lots of options at concession as well as beer. Pretty easy to park nearby but is also close to the T station.
Good films and great neighborhood.
