The staff went out of their way to make me and my mother comfortable. I called in advance to see if I could bring a blanket for my very ill mother because she gets cold easily. They said yes of course and asked with time and show we planned on watching. The turned the temperature up when we called so by the time we got there it was warmer for her. Some of the best service I’ve ever got to experience.

Good classic theater. Shows movies at good times. Snacks are great. Ticket prices are a low cost (compared to other places). Staff is nice. Seating is great. Could use some updated new paint and utilities etc. Other wise a great theater for it's age and style.

Now (finally) accepts credit cards. Still overpriced (only a few dollars less than an imax; snack prices on par). Condition of the facilities is poor. It's an older building that does have [some] charm, but for the most part it's simply run down & nearing a state of disrepair. Unfortunately, the theaters in Potsdam & Massena aren't any better and the one in Ogdensburg is closed. So, there are no other options in all of St. Lawrence County. Sad!

The American Theatre has incredible staff which make the experience more enjoyable with their friendly personalities. They have everything one should desire when going to the movies. That includes snacks, drinks, comfortable seating, and new releases.

For being such a small theater, I found the picture and sound surprisingly good. We saw Black Panther, which of course is a sensory overload type movie, and the theater kept up. I didn't have a moment where I thought, "boy I wish I was in a better place", as I have in some small mom and pop type theaters. They have the standard food and drink selections, and the prices were fair, in that they are never fair at theaters.

My hometown theater. Such a lovely spot to watch a movie. Comfortable seating and has a good supply and variety of snacks. Always up to date with the newest movies. Also, right around the corner from an ice cream store.

Recently took our family to see Star Wars and Ferdinand. I spent 20 minutes waiting on a concession worker to appear to get a refill on my popcorn, got frustrated and went back inside the movie. My husband tried to get a refill on the popcorn later during the movie and spent 15 minutes searching for a concession worker. My father-in-law who was watching Ferdinand in the other theater went through the same situation on his popcorn, he and another man had to go through the other theaters to find someone who worked there. Not only is this theater outdated (seriously what theater doesn’t have cup holders?), has broken chairs, and smells musty, but when I sent an email (because the webpage only has the Movieline and not a number to talk to someone) I have had no response. I will drive to Watertown from now on!

Went to see don't breath.snacks are cheaper then watertown, chairs r comfortable and they have booster seats for little kids that lock onto the seats.we usually go 1x a month and love this little hometown theatre!!

This theater charges $5 on college student Mondays for tickets and that's asking a lot for a movie theater of this questionable quality. Chunks of the ceiling fell during the movie Landing in my hair. The lights were off at the beginning of the movie so you couldn't see the state of the stained disgusting and moth filled seating. Soundsystem is terrible. And snacks still managed to be overpriced. The issues go further than that but unless you're paying only $5 for a ticket it's not worth it.

Great movies! The location is great! The seats are comfy and there's drink holders in almost all the seats plus booster seats available for kids that need them. The tickets and snacks can be pricey though.

How do they fit so many screens in there? Good current movies, the employees are always really nice. Also, some of the theaters have newer seats which are very comfy.

Unremarkable small town theater. Some screens very small. Their seats are not wildly comfortable, but fine. The American doesn't offer 3D versions of films, but I really don't care about that so no loss in my book.

Nice enough, front doors are heavy, couple busted seats, and far too small a bathroom. Functional enough on nights were they are not busy, and have the same popcorn most movie theaters do, not as many types of soda though. I'd go again.

I have been there twice. The staff was rude both times. The facility is a filthy dump complete with broken chairs. Depending on what theater you are in you may have to listen to passing traffic during you show. Save your money.

Don't let a few bad reviews fool you. Yes, the place is old (I feel it has a kind of vintage feel to it, personally), but they keep things pretty well kept for such a small theater. This is where I go to watch just about everything, honestly. The ticket prices are fair and the concession prices are as expected. Sure, you can spend the extra money to travel out to Watertown or ever Potsdam, both of which have great theaters... but it's mostly unnecessary unless you intend to watch something in 3D. Canton's movie theater isn't perfect, but it's pretty great for around here. Even though I've been to plenty of bigger theaters (including a massive one not too far outside of Portland, Oregon here I watched "Ant Man") I think this one holds its own. We're actually going to re-watch "Infinity War" there tonight!
