Great historic movie theater, entire thing is practically original from 1857, updated screen, sound system and video projector. Seats could use an upgrade, I would recommend an extra sweater as a cushion. Concession stand needs improvement with item selections and prices. Overall 1 of 2 theaters on island only one located right in town.

It's fun to play the piano here. It's authentic in the sense that it's old fashioned. Has a rustic vibe, and the crowd is good.

An old fashioned theater, just like the ones I went to as a kid. No reclining seats, popcorn holders or other needless stuff. Just a movie!

Fantastic little theater. Doesn't really matter what's playing, just go for the experience. If you go for the 7 o'clock show, Gary will venture out after sunset and manually open the batch windows in the roof. Been going there for 30 years and I still love it like the first time.

This is an old time theater with the latest digital equipment. Saw Mission Impossible on 08/04/18. This theater was a roller rink in part of its prior life, If you want to experience the atmosphere of an old time movie theater ..... this is for you. Great night out with my wonderful wife. Bring a little extra padding and you will be fine!

Although I can’t full on review the inside of this establishment due to the fact that I never made it inside I still feel as if my experience should be shared. Right of the bat my friend, who was low on cash, went up to the ATM at the theatre and tried to use his card to withdraw money but the machine wasn’t working. We then tried again but a guy standing in line behind us comments something along the lines of it’s not the machine you just don’t have money so as rude as that was my friends and I walked away but I was still sure it was the machine so I replied telling him that the machine is giving him an error. To my dismay he replies,”I’m the owner of this theatre it’s not the machine”. So after this my friends and I just left went to go find another ATM and it worked first try. I can’t speak on the looks and feel of the theatre itself but you won’t see me going to a theatre owned by someone who treats their customers like that.

The movie is just an excuse to enjoy the atmosphere of this former roller-disco rink. A recently updated projector and sound system keep the viewing experience up-to-date, and the old seats and simple concession stand fare make the Empire a charming experience.

Love this old fashioned movie theater. The barn-like building, cool and dark, is the perfect retreat when you're on the island on a rainy day. A good representation of Block Island itself, unpretentious, charming, and quirky.
