REVIEWS OF OMSI IN Oregon

Verlyn Foster

I loved OMSI. My only complaint is that there is so much to see and do, I missed a huge amount of it. But, what I did get to see was awesome. We saw a documentary about Egyptian Pharoes, took a tour of a Naval submarine, watched a holiday lazer light show, explored the King Tut exhibit and walked through the ginger bread house displays, which was Egyptian themed, and voted for our favorite. I'm going to have to try to see it again next time I'm in Portland.

Timothy Towell

I took my two granddaughters to OMSI as I hadn't been there for years, and all three of us had a fantastic time, and the day just flew by. Highly recommend it, regardless of age, as there are things to see for the young or old, and everyone in between... We plan to go again and again, and would recommend it strongly to everyone else that they should attendee it as well.

Kristi Hilton

This place is always so packed, and you can tell why once inside. Activities and things to do and see for adults and kids of all ages. My son's favorite is the glittery sand in the science fun room!

Nate Hart

Great place for kids. There are tons of interactive exhibits, opportunities for play, and great ways to spend time with your kids. I love this place.

Kay Klaver

The King Tut exhibit reminds you how thrilling it is to go back in time and visit another time and place in the history of our planet! The tour is just over 90 minutes. Give or take more time if needed. I was enthralled with explanations of all I saw!!!

Jake Katosic

OMSI is one of the coolest things in Portland, hands down. Their current King Tut exhibit is so detail oriented and really left me with a better understanding of not only the king, but also the painstaking process used to uncover the tomb which had been lost for centuries. One of the things I like most about OMSI is the amount of hands on exhibits they have for both kids and adults alike. My girlfriend loves going to museums and similar cultural touchstones when we travel and I'm usually good to grin and bear it, but here I genuinely found myself having a good time and really enjoying myself. The public transportation options are phenomenal, which is usually true of Portland, but here even more so, due to both street car and MAX train stop right out front. If you get a chance, I could not recommend this place more highly.

Larry Cutler

The Portland festival of lights is the coolest thing I've done in ages! It rained, but it didn't stop me from taking some great pictures of the Tilikum Crossing Bridge, and the Portland Skyline at night I just went to the King Tut Exhibit last Saturday. It was really crowded. Hint: hire a babysitter! Leave the little ones at home. A baby in a stroller isn't going to remember it in 8 years!

Christian Marie Gordon

If you're an adult with no children: DO NOT waste your time or money. If you want an interesting museum, go to the Oregon Historical Society. If you have kids: read some of the negative reviews before deciding. The gift shop was the only positive.

Alesita Flowers

Great place to bring kids and grown ups

Heidi Campbell

First time there as a family! We had a great time! So much fun stuff for all ages. Highly recommend this place. We will visit again soon.

Daniel Yi

First question? Is OMSI non profit? Excellent Tut exhibition and very informative treasure from human kind. Various scientific displays and functionality, all the visitors would forget their timeline because so many interesting subjects for all different types of people, youngsters, toddlers, aged, parents and their family. Is really OMSI non profit? We have premium annual membership, however, still require to pay all the attractions and the Tut exhibition. One thing that I noticed, perhaps other color people choices are different, notably this one color people isn’t seen in this NON PROFIT MUSEUM! For the price of this much gaining knowledge is worthy. I’m guessing, would I extend annual membership next year and pay additional attractions whenever visit OMSI? Are there any leverage for low income families?

Mahan Kaur

Love this place it’s a family tradition. I have been going here before it was in this location. They have stayed true to learning and growing.

Liam Brown

This is a great place for adults and kids alike.

Jonah

Great place to bring children. I did the submarine tour and it was pretty cool. OMSI can get pretty expensive if you don't have a family membership. They often rotate different things like the Pixar animation one going on recently, which was fun to go to.

G S.P

Line for members was longer then nonmembers.. Line for coffee was even longer. Why dont you offer food after 3? Workers and volunteers are great!

Chantia K

Love, love, love this place. I recently did OMSI after dark here and had a blast! The view of downtown is not bad on the eyes either.

Jen Brennan

Been coming here since I was a child and now getting to share it with my children. . .it's great! Lots of hands on opportunities for big and small ages. Even as adults we enjoy learning!

QueenMaster C

I really wish I would have known before wasting my money how disappointing this museum is. I can sincerely say this is the most boring and overrated museum I’ve been to. There are no real displays of specimen. It’s more like a play pen for children. I expected more as adult without children. This is purely only for children and no adult would find this museum fun. I wish I could get my money back.

Calixta Cheers

Went here for a first date - sure I'm in my 30's but it was too much fun if you approach it with a good attitude. Yeah, I realise that some of the interactive displays had seen better days, but there's still lots to see and do. Get your big kid on for a day and have some fun.

Benjamin Haunschild

My favorite place to go every time I was in Portland. I make a point to stop here and take my daughters to see all of the wonderful exhibits. Make sure to see what they’re doing for their special exhibit and pay the extra money. It’s worth it.

Amethyst Hudgens-Laffey

We enjoyed our time, 3 adults no kids. The beginning of life exhibit was the most intriguing. I'd have to say they definitely need to invest in more than 1 hand sanitizer dispenser! Seriously only 1 and it was empty! In a sea of children and you have to physically interact with the majority of the exhibits. It was a major downside, overall a good time minus the gross factor.

dilophosaurus venenifer

I first went here on a school trip, and have returned many times since! Wonderful exhibits, being switched out so often allows for a lot of learning to be done with each trip. If you haven't been to OMSI recently, you haven't been to OMSI. There's always something new to see and learn; I highly recommend it!

Sherry Taylor

We had a great time, the Pixar exhibit and the Super Heros dog show were both Awesome. Two disabled grandparents both in need of scooters to use and a 10 year old grandson and his friend, we went on Labor day and arrived about 11 am , Vincent went and got us set up with scooters, and made sure we knew where the exhibits, food, show and restrooms were, he went beyond customer Service and really Wowed us!

Mike Warren

WORTH IT! whether a school trip for an annual experience, or a regular monthly trip, this place always satisfies. You've got your puzzles, science exhibits, live sciences lab, chemistry lab, dinosaur bone, embryonic development exhibit, and on top of that a rotating exhibit of amazingness like Human Bodies, and Pixar. If THAT doesn't do it for you they have a submarine, a REAL submarine, you can go on. I've heard legend that you can even have a sleepover inside... Just saying. Did I forget the words planetarium, turbine room... You need to go here! OMSI wins!

Dustin Erdman

The draw here are the traveling exhibits which need to be rated on their own merits. OMSI has attracted national tours of some truly fantastic exhibits which should be given due respect. Unfortunately, the rest of the museum itself has little to offer if you’re not under 10. It seems the museum board/curators have decided that their only audience is young children and their parents. Even the planetarium show is reduced to a scant 15 minutes as if catering to the attention span of a toddler. Two adults won’t leave the museum - or should I say enter it - without paying nearly $60. Museum memberships would save money but that would require wanting to go more than once. Here’s hoping for expanded offerings in the future. I have attached pictures of one of the more noteworthy features of the museum which traces the development of human life. Also attached are pictures from the recent King Tut exhibition.

Minna Wang

Not worth the price of admission unless you have kids. Super small museum with very simple interactive exhibits.

Teresja Nelson

This is a really great science museum for all ages. It's very interactive and informative, and the exhibits are well-thought-out. We spent hours in the puzzle/science hall, and the chemistry lab has great activities to help kids learn about chemistry. Plus, part of the building is an old power plant, with a turbine still on display.

Lydia Kennedy

Our 7 year old enjoyed the Pixar exhibit and science museum. Great for families and by the water for great pics. A must visit.

G. Michael Zimmerman

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry has always been loads of fun. My first experience with OMSI was over 30 years ago when it was still located near the Oregon Zoo. I was a child then and I was fascinated by the exhibits and various scientific demonstrations. As an adult I have also enjoyed OMSI but notice that it hasn't made many advancements. It seems there's a great deal of room for improvement. For example, I visited a science museum in Bangalore and found that they had many more interactive exhibits and demonstrations to engage children and adults. The worst of my observations at OMSI are regarding the use of non-vegan food at discussions of Environmental Change, and the like. Animal agriculture is the largest contributor to carbon emissions and climate change. As a museum of Science, should we not eliminate such negligent, contradictory and hypocritical practices? Please OMSI, fascinate me like you did when I was a child but make me believe in your efforts now that I am an adult. Let's educate people on the facts.

Catherine Maccarone

What a great day. Kind Tut exhibit was fantastic. As were the others. I'll be back for a second look real soon.

Jessica Walls

I was so disappointed in what they call a museum. It's fine, if you have kids. Other than that, I wouldn't bother. The only reason they get two stars, instead of zero stars, is because the King Tut exhibit was pretty good.

Thomas Lee

The new exhibit is very good well work price of admission

Kristi Ratcliffe

Haven't been here since I was a kid I say pretty cool to come see and check it out family fun for sure

John Tunca

Loved it for sure. Science of Pixar was amazing and I really loved the submarine tour. $108 is a tad steep for 3 people but we did 3 separate items so there's that and we're in a big city, still stings a bit

Sheila Jefferson

We love this place. There is always something new for kids and adults to do. It is easy to spend the whole day here but even just a couple hours is fine. It really depends how focused you get at each station/exhibit/room. There are better times to go when it isn't as crowded. I try to avoid the 2 dollar first Sunday of the month day. Holidays times can also get crowded but it is still manageable. As with little kids on general, it good to bring a spare set of clothes. There is a water exhibit/table and the kids can get quite wet without even trying.

Stacy Lee Ferguson

Came to town and asked around about what to do. Locals were unable to provide much help, so we went off the hotel provided map. 8 adults went to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Bought ticket for admission and extra tickets to the planetarium for the Dark universe show. The 30 min planetarium show was really cool and informative, but the museum itself was directed mainly for children. Great for the children, if you have them, but for adults it was not worth the money. A lot of labs and kid station and not much for adults. Had it not been for the planetarium it would have been a total bust. Submarine was closed for maintenance and main exhibit room was closed for maintenance. Also on a plus side is there is a bar with wine and beer, yeah! I had the Italian sandwhich and it was very yummy! Wife had beer can chicken sandwhich and hated it. Would I recommend it, if you have kids, yes. If not, no.

Gacha Cookie

I went with my school and my class loved it we were so glad we went

Anirban Banerjee

Amazing experience. The experience of a submarine and the life of brave navy guys is really worth appreciating.

Jim Spencer

More like 4.5 Stars. Lots of "Hands On" experiences for kids. Pretty cool stuff. Lots of staff all over to help. Helpful Hints: arrive early .. parking lot can fill up. Bring hand wipes .. I'm not a germaphob .. but 100's of little kids running around touching all that stuff

Ax Death

Screaming children were everywhere. Place was dirty. Apparently some event was planned for that day. A huge volcano was going to erupt outside. The actual effect was, a huge brown tarp, flapping over a metal scaffold had a touch of red mist come out of it. I probably wouldn't go here if it was free and I lived nearby. Go somewhere else.

Tyler Christensen

Great for kids! But it would be nice if some of the exhibits considered an adult audience too. The laser show was fun though!

Ess

I went early to see the Pixar Exhibit on a $2 Sunday (with Pixar was $8 & $5 parking). Crowds but not overwhelming. Exhibit was ok, kept wondering why it was in a Science museum as they focused 90% on design/art. Rest of the museum dated and few things to do. Food service was poor - 30 minute wait for a cup of coffee. Only 8 people in line in front of me. If you have kids go to the Children's Museum in Washington Park. Into Design/ Art go to Portland Art Museum. For adults looking for thoughtful exhibits - don't waste your $$

Dony Top5

Had a ball at OMSI last weekend. The King Tut exhibit was amazing, get there early if you can. I had always wanted to do a tour of the Submarine they have in the Willamette by the OMSI and it did not disappoint, the guide was a hoot. We also hit the planetarium for a stargazing tour. The staff was helpful and polite.

Deanna Rivera

The King Tut exhibit is the most amazing exhibit I've seen there and it's always a great experience. Those special exhibits are always worth the extra money. I do wish, however, that they would not charge for parking. also if you're going to go more than once it's worth it to become a member and the lines are shorter...and if you become a member of another science center like Science Factory in Eugene you pay less for the membership and can use it at OMSI.

Guillermo Vazquez

First science museum that I've been too that has many hands-on exhibits. Great place to take your kids to learn and play. The Science Behind Pixar was a great exhibit, highly recommend.

Alyssa Graeber

OMSI has been one of my favorite spots in Portland since childhood. My kiddos get the same experience with a modern twist! Great family outing. Plan for at least 2 hours.

Noah Sketches

Our family have had an OMSI membership for 12 years. I used to feel appreciated as a member, and felt membership at OMSI to be a good value. My recent expreiences when visiting OMSI leave me feeling very unappreciated as a member. I will reconsider membership when it is time to renew.

Devan Williams

Fun for all ages, 0 to 99! Lots to do for kids of all ages. My 4- and 2-year-old boys had a great time pretending to be various animals, playing with water rockets, exploring gravity wells, building with large blocks, exploring with cranes, and just generally being curious. Older kids would appreciate the science more, but even the younger kids enjoy getting their hands on things.

Zachary Dix

I've been coming here my entire life. Every time I go I find something new to appreciate and enjoy. I definitely recommend going out on the adults-only nights, it'll bring out your inner kid make you appreciate the beautiful world we live in. Feed your brain.

Vanessa Cade

Overall family fun! I suggest going on weekdays or early in the day to get the best interaction due to less crowds! Beautiful views of the waterfront. Fun for all ages! Many various tour attractions (king tut is through end of january) from space, history, science and a kids / toddler area! Fun way of teaching and hands on learning

Jim DeMarco

Excellent for a day with the kids. I was an OMSI member for many years as a kid visiting when located next to the Portland Zoo. I moved to the inner east side and later so did OMSI because I am a huge fan. Any kid you feel might be interested in STEM will go nuts here. I did at the original location as a kid in the 60's and you'll still find that's true here. Lots of interesting things for adults as well.

Maddie B

Just spent over 3 hours here. Could have spent much more. Go early! Lots of fun!!! My kids from 1 years to 12 years everyone loved it.

Derek Phillips

OMSI holds the distinction of being the only yearly pass I continue to hold. The exhibits are fantastic where interests lie, but the base 'modules' are really consistently entertaining as a mainstay. Blowing paper into the air, becomes a competative family sport. Allowing our bodies to become conduits for electricity, is part for the coarse, and puzzles to torture or minds, become a welcome reprocess from daily minutia The gift shop is top notch and sits beside a much welcomed coffee shop. That serves up lattes and snacks. Getting there early will smooth the visit, as crowds swell in the afternoon and exhibits can sell out for the day rather quickly.

Dylan Filkins

This is a really cool place! They have plenty to see and plenty of activities for kids and adults. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is playful. I always recommend this place for families coming into town.

Tristin Fry

Pretty cool, a little expensive but the Pixar exhibit was really fun and really cool

Hansel Derelick MB.

Great for kids and adults.

Billiam Berg

Wonderful collection! Summertime however the spaces are filled with camp children starting at opening time. They employ student workers which one of the bonus points they get. Met a visually impaired fellow who interpreted some of the Robot exhibits. We didn't make it to the submarine. Some exhibits could use repair, but more were operational than expected. Worth a visit for young and old

Jade Giovanna

Im disappointed with my most recent visit to Omsi. The attractions were under construction, the amphibian exhibit (im not sure if this is exactly what they call it) was closed and there just wasn't a whole lot to see. My son was extremely bored, and after spending $50 for a family of four we left after about 45 mins. The best part was probably the jungle gym, which kept their attention for about 20 mins. Also the admissions lady was extremely socially awkward and made it very uncomfortable just asking a few questions about pricing. (Because I saw a family admission deal online and was just inquiring about it. Which apparently is non existent now.) If the exhibits were open and there was more to see/do it would have been worth it. But this experience was not.

Karen Pyatt

We love OMSI and are so excited to have their membership pass this year! We love the Access Program and all the great things they have for both our kids to do. We haven't been in a while and we loved how they have expanded every part for every age. King Tut was great for our oldest because she could hear everything. The planetarium has shows for both our kids. There is a great play area for learning and discovering upstairs. Along with the classics of how a baby grows, the insects, the fossils, and the PGE portion too. We can't wait to go back and we love that it is right off the max!

Noah Kelley

Plenty of things for young minds to stay occupied. We also visited the planetarium to learn about the Portland night sky which was well done. The theater had probably twenty five visitors with room for a couple hundred which left a great selection for seating.

Molly Arnott

We really enjoyed our visit here with our 6 year old, 3 year old, and 6 month old. Included in the base price was a 3d nature/science based 45 min movie. And there was so much hands on things the kids to play with and learn about. The room with all the electricity stuff was very exciting, and controlling robots was too. We'll definitely come again when we're in Portland

Danny Higgins

Kids will love this place. The number of hands on, interactive exhibits is really nice. The Pixar exhibit was also great. It could use more exhibits like the Pixar one that cater to people of all ages.

Katharine Foster

My 4 yr old had a great time. He especially enjoyed the area where he could build things with woodpieces, plastic nuts and bolts, and plastic gears. He made an awesome boat car :) There's a variety of stations so it's great for all ages and interests.

Nick Johnson

My family loves coming here. We learn something new every time. The after dark events are a must! Science is fun for all ages.

Alex Easton

Great for young people learning science

Devin #flowtherapy James

I've LOVED OMSI since I was a kid. It's such a great place for kids to learn and grow. Having been a tour guide on the Blueback, I would DEFINITELY recommend getting a tour!

Rachel Raburn

We bought a family membership, and can't wait to visit again! Our kids had so much fun, and learned a lot. Wonderful exhibits!!

Wei Kung

Just do the submarine tour. That was worth it. Honestly the museum itself is tiny. I expected much more. It’s for children mostly. The only part that was memorable was the 44 real fetuses at the Natural Science section.

Mike

We’ve been going to OMSI since the 80’s, but it had been about 3 years since our last visit. We went this time because of the Pixar exhibit, which turned out to be fantastic. Spent a good 2 hours in that exhibit alone. The rest of the museum unfortunately is a shell of its former self. Much has been removed and it feels very dated and empty. 5 stars for the Pixar exhibit; 3 stars for the rest of the museum.

A J

Family fun. Easy to get to by private or public transportation.

Immediate Review!

OMSI is genuinely incredible. From the nostalgia of coming here as a kid to getting to appreciate it as an adult. This place never ceases to amaze me. Come for the museum, sub tours, movies, planetarium, or the seasonal exhibits they offer. I promise it won't disappoint. It is very kid friendly too, information for adults and interactive learning for the kids, what more could you want?

courtney Bywater

It fun and you get to learn new things and the built something new there

nikki ganata

Love this place. Definitely worth getting the membership to! My family's favorite is going to the hands on chemistry room.

Savanah Tucker

Just had time for the Egyptian exhibit. Was awesome but the timed part was a bit difficult as there were many children. After the group broke up it was a quieter experience. I suggest being wary of when families will be there if you'd like to peruse. Otherwise, great place for families!

Awful Falafel

A great, big, beautiful museum in the city of culture. With great staff, great exhibits and the special limited-time ones down the main hall is also great for variety. The tour of the USS Blueback is ls also great because of the little gags and jokes and the trivia that her and her crew were in the movie "Hunt For Red October". The drive from the South Puget Sound was definitely worth it.

Jeremiah Beene

Great museum with very little to improve! The rotating main exhibits are typically really interesting, the attached food spot is was well above average, and there is a kids section that is pretty great! They could maybe throw in some seasonal activities or other incentives to keep my membership value up, though.

Jonathan Graham

Kids love it here. The main exhibit is always changing which is nice. They also move and change around a lot of the other exhibits. The planetarium is great for movies. We haven't hit the submarine yet but plan to next visit as we got an annual pass.

Barbara Bolich

Great family activities for all ages. Went on a rainy day and spent hours with elementary school kids and adults highly entertained. Brain puzzles, science, things to build, animals, engineering, tons of things to do. We bought the basic tickets and avoided special exhibits. Memberships save you money, don't get you in free. We didn't get to all the stations or rooms.

Sid J

I have been to many museums around the country, but I was underwhelmed with OMSI. After so much hype and a 4.5 star rating on Google, I think it is more directed towards kids and feels dated. Not to be misunderstood for boring or bad. But if you can probably skip this, as long as you don't have anything else to do.

Dean Yoakum

Good place for events. Located in a weird part of town and doesn't quit fit in that district but somehow feels like it belongs. I mainly use the running/walking/biking trails around there cause it makes for a nice loop using steel bridge and Hawthorne bridge to get to the waterfront on the westside of the river. And the trails by OMSI are the best part of that loop. Peaceful inside chaos is how it makes me feel.

Faith Kennedy

OMSI After Dark is great! Don't go alone unless you want groups of drunk guys hitting on you. Bring a buddy!

Myranda Kelly

This place is only for family's and young children. Unfortunately I was not aware of that fact and so waited in line with my husband for over an hour to get in, just to walk the entire place in 5 minutes. If you have kids, then this place is great. If it is just adults, not so much. Also the gift shop is crazy over priced.

Haley Huckins

Used to go here all the time as a kid. First time I've been here in almost a decade. I just had to see the Science behind Pixar. It was fascinating. But there were WAY too many kids. I could barely think through all the noise of those brats. I loved the face rigging and the scenery rigging stations the most. The rest of the museum was more sparse and more dirty than I remember it being when I was a kid. So that was disappointing.

Michelle Folger

The sub tour with Earl was by far the highlight of the adventure!! He was knowledgeable, fun, and took the time to answer questions. The Tut exhibit was less than stellar, simply because it was unnecessarily theatrical.

Arista Lovewell

We recently got a year pass and are excited to visit more often. It does get crowded a bit on the weekends but still lots to do and see. Especially since they rotate out what is there.

Chelsey Hoge

My kids had a blast for our first time there. Also, check out this walking, biking, running path on the river right behind it. It was gorgeous

Melanie Davis

OMSI is always worth the money and time. There is something to learn about at each visit and that cannot be the said for every place in Portland. We usually would buy a family pass for Christmas and use it as much as would could, especially when the rain sets in, we would pack lunches and go do some exploring. As for the Laser Light Shows? WORTH IT. Especially if you have enjoyed some cannabis prior to the show, it is a great way to visually and audibly enjoy a night out (with a designated driver of course.) Treat yourself as a family or as an adult looking for something you just don't see everyday.

Andrea Zotelli

Excelente place to spend the day with your kids. Lots of interesting activities to learn science, math, physics and more. A very enjoyable place for adults as well. Consider going early to avoid long lines to buy your tickets. The eatery was very organized and staff is very efficient. Tasty food, fast service and you usually manage to find a table even when the place is busy. OMSI is a place you can't miss when visiting Portland, OR.

Kevin Douglas

King Tut exhibit was a lot of fun. There's nothing I can say here you can't find with a quick search, but the reproductions seemed very well done. Worth the price of admission.

Gavin Pham

Pixar exhibit was so cool and SUPER well made. Would recommend for any age, it explains very complicated animation principles through simple, interactive experiences.

danielle ursula

Definitely not worth $14.50 plus $5 parking if you don't have a kid. I wish the employee who took my money had been honest when I asked if it was a children's museum. Was very disappointed in spending $35 to walk around a children's playground basically.

Dylan Noer

Fun place to take the family.

Zachary Lindström

An incredible science museum with plenty of hands-on activities for kids and adults alike. We spent a good 4 hours here and that wasn’t quite enough. Be prepared to pay high dollar to experience all the add-ons, like the planetarium, submarine tour, 3D movie, and special traveling exhibit.

Alay Shah

This is #mustsee place for curious mind. Age really doesn't matter. Be 5 year or 30 - all enjoys well. A lot many activities. Chemistry, physics, design thinking, wind tunnel and wonderful Submarine (yes, real submarine). I guarantee you, you will have fun, fun and fun!

Kaylene French

A disaster of a wait in the membership line over the Christmas holidays was made better by the fabulous children's area and the excellent dining area. The sub tour was also greatly enjoyed by my hubby. Will be back to see the rest.

Eoin O'Raghallaigh

We came here for the submarine tour. It was excellent. Our guide was ex navy and gave us an excellent insight into what life would have been like abord this submarine. Tours start about every half hour and finish about 3pm. It would be a good idea too book your tour in advance. You need to demonstrate that you are able to fit through a submarine hatch before you are allowed to start the tour.

Roxy Kokkeler

We saw the King Tut exhibition and it was pretty cool except it was not the real deal - everything was a replication of what they found. The story of what happened and how Carter found the body and shrines if King Tut was awesome but would have been more awesome if it had been the real deal.

Dave Wiard

There are plenty of science-oriented activities for all ages from 1.5 years through adult. The toddler are is a little limited with but for older kids 4+ there is so much here you really have to go multiple times to experience it all. The special exhibits are always VERY well done for all ages.

Amy Segeberg

It's OMSI, who wouldn't love it here? Kids love to run around and explore and there's always something new each time they come for a visit. On our most recent trip, my kids spent quite a bit of time doing simple experiments set up by volunteers. They absolutely loved it and the volunteers were fantastic. Sidenote, take a shiny penny and a couple of quarters for an inexpensive souvenir smashed penny.

Sucks 2suck

It’s a very small museum but it feels more aimed to entertain children only. Gave two cause it was informative but not much to do.

Lauren Hendrickson

Saw the King Tut exhibit. It was beautifully done. We always have fun here, and it's fun for the whole family from the wee little ones to the elders of the family. It is pricey but worth it. They also have great views of the river.

KD Madubike

Very few exhibited that are covered by admission. I love science, yet the few things they had there didnt hold my interest. The laser shows were the only thing worth it, but almost $14 admission PLUS the price of the show is definitely not worth it.

Nancy Robrecht

We love OMSI. As grandparents we always buy a membership for us and all the grand children are put on it. Thus any of our grandchildren can go as a member and take their parents as a guest. We loved the new exhibit on king Tut. We enjoyed seeing are one of the omni Max movies. Having a membership is the only way to go because then you can just stop whenever you want and spend a little while. I love their gift store too.

Ellary Deferrers

This review is only regarding the Submarine(USS Blueback) tour. Excellent tour. You get a great view/idea how the sailors on a submarine go about their lives. Very cramped living conditions for being on a secluded vessel extended periods of time. Narrow passages, so be careful. Great place for families, discover all kinds of things exhibits change regularly so keep up what's happening at OMSI. many interesting displays and lots to do for children. Great Omni theater too. Good souvenir shop, many educational items.

Jld Girl

Been a few times. Each time I'm hoping it gets better, but doesn't seem to. Museum itself is ok, but the shows are better. It just seems it's way overpriced for the general admission. So, you pay that price but the shows are an additional price. Plus to see their featured exhibit, like Pixar, it's even more money. But overall, it's a good way to spend the day with kids.

Josh Kimbrough

Really great for kids. It's a very busy place, with more than a day full of activities to do. The King Tutankamen exhibit is great, although a little slow-paced for kids. The submarine is educational and a cool experience. There are a ton of theater shows, you should look ahead of time to see what the schedule is like for your visit.

Jim Curtis

I had fun! Great presentations with lot of space. Just wish they would have an adult only day for their special exhibits. Otherwise, great!

Fiona Ryan

Saw the Exquisite creatures exhibit today. Fantastic!

Ray Luo

The regular exhibits on first floor is on par with science museums in other cities. The recent special exhibit of King Tut is well organized. The regular outdoor exhibit of submarine is uniquely cool, and its staff actually worked on sub before! Very knowledgeable!

Andrew Holland

It was fun and educational. Definitely an experience for the entire family or just go solo.

Amanda Burkhart

I love OMSI! First time I went was back in 2011/2012 when they had the Body Worlds exhibit set up there. It was FANTASTIC! So incredible to see. Another favourite is the submarine. If you can, and you're not claustrophobic, go check it out! I also really like the hologram room! Great museum, I only wish it were bigger!!!

Zane Bliss

Very satisfying to go here. Well worth the membership. Really feeds my science bug. Please bring the Petra display. I missed that one.

Tony Helfend

I had not been to OMSI in probably 20+ years, since I was a child. I'm pretty sure I had just as much fun going there as an adult as I did as a kid! Amazing interactive Place inspiring Young Minds. I love this place! Will definitely be going back more regularly.

Robert P

Kids loved it, so many activities and intriguing things to look at

Candice Dominguez

Love this place. We have been members for a few years and mainly use the kids section. My kids (4 years old) always have a great time. It's a bummer that part of the room is under construction because my kids loved the water feature the most. It's also a bummer that we have to pay to see the traveling exhibits. Personally, I think it should be included in my $100+ membership.

Alex Gulart

Really really really good!

Bud Hayes

This is a "MESMERICA" review, not OMSI in general. What a freakin' waste of time and money. With a very few exceptions, it was a Windows screen saver combined with a kaleidoscope, that had little or nothing to do with the music or the occasional arrogant instructions/dialog regarding how you should be feeling at that point. I was laughing at many points, as were many others in the audience. The music was repetitive, boring and grating due to an overwhelmed recording system. If you like the same rift played infinitem on a variant of a steel drum, you have arrived. Perhaps if the staff gave you a crystal, dreamcatcher and a (big) bag of pot on the way in, it might have been more meaningful.

Michael Gillespie

OMSI is fun and educational for all ages and absolutely excellent for kids. Try it. It's pretty pricy though. If you go more than once a year, go for an annual membership.

WVTER WVLKER

I went to the King Tut Exhibit today and it was absolutely mind blowing. I highly suggest that everyone go to it by the 27th. They had such an amazing set up in every room you walked into. I was very pleased.

Josh Jefferies

Best museum I have been to in years. Fun for children, adults and eveyone. Food on site is very well priced and very tasty. I'd you get a chance I would take the submarine tour, the best part in my opinion.

Reggie Wallace

Seems like paradise for a kid. Me on the other hand did enjoy the charm of this place. I went during the day before my flight back home. The planetarium was really neat, but the show seemed short. I heard OMSI after dark is what you should do is you're an adult, which I'll be trying on my next visit.

Jason Heglund

Took the kids here for the first time and they had a blast. the exhibits are so much fun and educational. Great place for kids and adults. There are exhibits for all ages. Will definitely be coming back.

Nancy Wolf

Such a fun place! Took out 3.5 year old grandson too the planetarium and he saw Big Bird and Elmo explain the night sky. He loves it!

L. Edstrom

Went here with parents and brothers. We had a pretty good time. We are all over 18, and some things were a little more targeted to younger people but other things were still fun to do and look at. We left the Lazer show in the planetarium because it wasn't for us. The submarine was neat and my brothers' favorite part. A nice afternoon together.

rebecca bauerlien

Awesome place, nice building a little pricey. Definitely aimed more towards children and I was not aware of that prior to going but if I had a kid I’m sure they would’ve loved it!

Luke Yellowtail

This place has been on our to do list for quite some time now. We had finally taken our family. I must say its totally worth it. If im not mistaken the featured exhibits are only 5 dollars a person and children under 3 are free. The planetarium is awesome. They also show certain movies in the theater they have. Jad a blast plan on returning. Excellent place for families.

Scott Rokus

Exhibits are fun and knowledge-building. A great place! However, the newly updated cafe is severely lacking. Overpriced "more adult" meals that just aren't near as good. The update was a downgrade in food and an upgrade in price. The bar is a nice touch, but bring back the old cafe food!

Carla Bentley

Wonderful place to learn and play! Nice walk to Mt Hood Brewing Company and their wood fired pizza at Tilikum Crossing. Great location for walking along river also. Amazed at the play/learn areas for children of different ages. Highly recommend!

tik otaganonta

Dear OMSI : You've got some interesting exhibits, but please try harder to make those exhibits, both permanent & rotating ones, more touchable (& thus, more accessible) for your visually-impaired visitors. Try! Especially that your tickets are expensive & the 3-D printing technology is so much cheaper now. I & my blind daughter were dismayed to find so few exhibits touchable. 90% are just visual.

Holly Harrison

Very kid friendly. I got the combo ticket with the submarine tour, King Tut exhibit and a volcano movie. The movie was ok, submarine tour was awesome (if you're at all claustrophobic I wouldn't recommend doing it) and the King Tut exhibit was interesting. I spent over 6 hours at this place.

Bart Thompson

As always, the lines can suck....but well worth it! Been for a few different things, most recent was King Tut. Body Worlds was my all time favorite!

Prince P

Great place for kids and adults. Diverse and seasonal events throughout the year. Lots of play area for kids, especially for ages 3+. My 14 month old had a great time. Check their website for event updates, most of them sell out fast especially on weekends. Costco, and Groupon sometimes have discounted tickets.

Dee Walker

I am always delighted with OMSI’s Staff in person contact and by telephone. The Custom Service is always stellar. All of my concerns are always immediately addressed with professionalism.

Heart

Great museum. A lot to see and do here. Plenty of hands on exhibits. Some permenant and a lot of temporary exhibits. A planetarium. Laser light shows. Monthly events. Helpful and informative staff. Great location. Plenty of parking. Well worth a visit if you are in Portland.

Lloyd Waggener IV

Omsi is great to take kids or adults to. My 2yo son loves to play with the foam blocks and water exhibits. We also love the submarine. I enjoy how the special exhibit changes every few months. We have a member pass which makes frequent visits better as you don’t feel like you need to do everything while you are here.

Kim Boldrini-Senn

This was my first OMSI experience after a lot of hype, but compared to the many science museums I have taken my child to I was disappointed. I just didn’t think there was that much for him to see/ touch/ experience and the prices were a bit high (higher than most science museums plus paid parking and extra charge for each exhibit). Boston and North Virginia are top notch. There were some exhibits that entertained for quite a bit (animal outfits /exploring as well as the test your own boat /water play), but nothing else really hit. The Superdogs film we saw was amazing, but the stadium was overwhelmingly high. The laser light show we saw was horribly boring - I almost walked out, but my kiddo fell asleep (don’t watch The Beatles!). The snack lunch selections were expensive, but the restaurant was more reasonable and quite tasty. I would say your money is better spent by going to the Children’s Museum and Forestry Center or free at Tanner Springs and hiking in the forest. Sorry OMSI, just didn’t hit the spot.

Kirsten Leniger

Always a great place to learn and have fun! The memberships are great, especially if you go a few times a year (it's nice to be able to show up for an hour and leave without feeling like you need to stay all day to get the price of your admission). Right along the waterfront in Portland if you want to take a stroll or rent a bike.

Julia DeGraw

The visiting Discovery of King Tut exhibit was incredible. My 10 year old nephew and I enjoyed the science lab, everything is super interactive. I've also really enjoyed the OMSI After Dark events.

Yousreng He

Great place to gain more knowledge relate to science and technology

Katie G.

My friend and I came here for nostalgic reasons. Sure was fun to look through everything as an adult and remember being there as a child. This place is definitely meant for children though. Outside of the nostalgia, I didn't find a whole lot of entertainment as an adult. There were a few interesting things, but it was definitely geared towards teaching young ones.

James Dickson

Lot of hands on experience for ages here. They usually have a good visiting exhibit. My kids love going here as do I.

Zachary Dickerson

OMSI is a hands-on science and tech museum likely targeted for the 8-15 year old audience. However, it still has plenty of interesting exhibits for older audiences to enjoy. Of note is a temporary exhibit called "Exquisite Creatures" which is an art exhibit revolving around the natural beauty in the bugs and animals around the world. That was the true highlight for me on this trip. There is a planetarium and an IMAX theatre but I didn't experience those as they cost a little bit extra. Museums like these are what sparked my interest in the sciences and should be supported. Double check before you visit what the rotating exhibit is as it could make or break your trip! And look out for the OMSI after dark specials if you are 21+!

Rodrigo González del Cueto

Great museum with lots of interactive exhibits to learn doing experiments and hands-on demonstrations; great for kids and teens (7-15 years old). While all the content is very interesting and well presented, it is definitely targeted to a young audience.

Marc Dewey

Good place to explore on a rainy day but overall the exhibits felt dated (it was almost the same as I remember it when I last visited over 20 years ago). Small children will enjoy the hands-on exhibits but honestly there is little here for adults to justify the hefty entrance fee. Came during the Pixar exhibit and even that was a let-down.

Jamie Bichelman

A fascinating museum, learning center, and historical site with endless possibilities for adult and child alike. There are several packages to find the price and experience that best suits your needs. I cannot speak highly of the Starry Nights Live show in the planetarium; the instructor’s voice, enthusiasm, and the setup of the room was absolutely breathtaking. The games/activities throughout are neat and engaging ways to learn scientific concepts. Compared with other big city museums, I’m not so sure it stands up as well; that Starry Nights Live show was simply outstanding, though!

John Roberts

Four Stars I love this place it's constantly changing there's always new exhibits you can keep taking your family back here to something new

Brad Stewart

Amazing place to take the kids.they can learn and play.

Melissa Gonzalez

I am a huge nerd and lover of museums. However, this one wasn't working for us. I am used to museums that are either free, or free parking or just bigger in general. Initially, you pay $5 to park. Additionally, you pay $17/person for admission, THEN they make you pay for the exhibits. The King Tut exhibit is understandable, considering it is a rotational exhibit. They also make you pay to see the IMAX, the planetarium, the submarine tour and a few other things. This museum is 2 stories, the first story being the gift shop and industry section if you don't pay for extras. The second level is skeletons/paleontology (with lab) and maternity. There is also a live reptile section. This museum is very hands on and great for kids to learn. But, on the other hand, it is not a recommended museum for adults.

Paul Jones

I love OMSI! So much fun! So much learning! I’ve been going for the last 30 years. It hasn’t changed a ton but it is always engaging. This last trip it was fun to see my children be amazed.

Nicole Miller

We had a great time here

Courtney Stevens

Great place for little kids and big. Lots of hands on things. My youngest loves the sand box. I am annoyed that the main exhibit always costs more. And everything else seems to too. Like why have a 170+ membership and then still have to pay for the shows.

Chris Chan

Old museum—it’s run down and dirty and feels like they haven’t changed the exhibits in a long time. Really tiny and not great for adults. The planetarium was unfortunately a joke and we ran out of things to do in less than an hour! Only giving this two stars because the Pixar exhibit was good.

Rustell LoManto

OMSI is a large open spaced science center. There are plenty of activities for a wide range of ages. Today we visited the Science of Pixar exhibit which was really well done. The Theory food is great but I wish the Mac n cheese was more kid friendly instead of funky.

Zack Ide

Awesome place to spend a day with the family. The Ride Simulator, iMax Movie Theater, Planetarium (with laser light show options), Permanent Exhibits, Seasonal Exhibits, and After Hour Events are all worth attending when you come visit the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. If you have someone interested in submarines, then there's one more reason for you to check this museum out next time you find yourself on the East side of Portland.

Arlin Sensenig

We enjoyed the king Tut exhibition. It was very busy with it being holiday season . The staff was all friendly and helpful even tho it was so busy. The children had so much fun in the play area.

Jeremy D

Finally made it! The King Tut exhibit was absolutely incredible! My kiddo loved all of the learning opportunities and puzzles as did we! Get here!

Amber Schippert-Bell

Has everything, science labs, biggest theater I've seen, play ground, planetarium, and a submarine tour. By the way Doug is the best at the tours. So much to see n do. Gift shop is awesome, we brought home so many projects to do. Couldn't fit it all in one day! Become a member

Mesamerica was very relaxing. Awesome kaleidoscopic images swirling and undulating to take you inside your mind.Got a bit repetitive and about 15 mins too long
